How to minimize without crashing?

Howdy Adobe!
Is there a way I can minimize the program window without having the program crash? Or is that just too much to ask? I believe you call it Adobe Digital Editions, version 4.0.3. Build 110333... ish? It totally sucks! Let me tell ya! I had no problems with ADE previously (with previous version), until I updated. I'm not sure what version I was on, but I am pretty sure it was major version 4. But ADE kept nagging about this great new... pesky version... that's supposedly so grand and amazing... so I took the bait yesterday and followed through with it and udpated. My experience with ADE has never been the same since! Yeah... it's that good. Not!
Let me tell ya! If it ain't broken... don't fix it! That's the rule I normally tend to live my life by. I broke that rule yesterday, and now I'm suffering consequences. I was getting tired of the nagging about it. Apparently there is no way to turn auto update, or update check off. Why not? Seriously? That should be up to me as a user. Is it that bad to run an outdated version of ADE that update checks and installs must be enforced upon us?
So if I start ADE, it starts OK and it stays that way. I can read books, create bookshelves, and even miximize the program window (wow! what a luxery!). But as soon as I click the program button on the taskbar to minimize, or otherwize minimize the window (e.g. Win+M or Win+D) it minimizes and subsequently crashes. I get the message saying that the program stopped working. Nice one!
I have done all the hops and I have not been able to resolve this. I have uninstalled (completely), rebooted, reinstalled, yet the problem remains. What's worse is that Adobe has no way for users to report bugs with Adobe software. There is this Feature Request / Bug Report web form that's supposedly a way for us to communicate major flaws in Adobe software with the appropriate team members. It says in the description that all feature requests and bug reports are read, but they are not replied to. So you might as well be talking to a wall, when you don't even get a "Roger that!" or "Affirmative!" response. I would expect these forums to be more engaging and effective than that web form. What's even worse is that there is no option to report bugs relating to ADE! Is that because Digital Editions is free software and under-prioritized?
I am running Windows 8.1 Pro, x64.
Update:
Apparently, I cannot post a reply on my own thread.

Encore does not export to WMV. I'm not sure why you think it should.
As a test, import your problem project into a new project and then try to export and let us know what happens.

  • Tons of messages in tons of folders to move--how to do without crashing?

    Hi all,
I've imported a bunch of my old mailboxes, some with 7k+ messages in them total, each with many, many subdirectories (here's a screenshot: http://www.alecquig.com/mailproblem.png). Is there a script or another way to move all of these messages into one folder? Many of these folders are full of dupes, and to run Mail Scripts to find ALL my dupes, all the messages have to be located in the same folder.
If anyone knows, it would help me out a bunch!
    Thanks!
    Alec

    Hi Scott + all,
Here's what my problem looks like: http://www.alecquig.com/mail.png
I have literally thousands of messy sub-directories from importing, exporting, and re-importing my library over the years. It would take months to go through each folder and copy manually. I'd like to collapse the folder ("Stuff") into one without all the sub-directories, while retaining all the messages. Then I can run the "Remove Duplicates" script in MailScripts and I can finally back this all up properly.
Does anyone know of a script, or another way to solve this? Could I make a smart folder in finder containing all the messages in my library and then move them all to somewhere so I can ditch the folders and retain only the messages?
    Thank you!!
    Alec

Then restore via iTunes. The iOS device will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • How to export... without crashing Premiere ?

I have been able to export this project (into .AVI with Media Encoder) then later produce a WMV with Windows Media Encoder.
Tonight, no less than 4 times Premiere crashed after long minutes of exporting that same project and I gave up.
Only changes brought were some shots processed into After Effect CS3 then re-exported into .AVI files, the latest being then reimported into Premiere CS3 and edits performed there for replacing old shots.  I can render the project with no problem within Premiere.
I would like to get insights about the best way to export a project (read: get the best quality output for web, without crashing...) - and tips to avoid crashing (read: "Premiere.exe stopped working...." kind of messages).
Using Adobe Encore to go directly to WMV did not work for me - which is why I have followed some peoples (here) advices to go with WME (x64).
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Things to note:
I have been unable to update firmware on this computer for about a year now. Im not sure why.
I am running a bootleg copy of Windows XP on this computer, I would not like to spend $149 to get Windows 7 if possible.
any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Why don't you take your 'old' MBP into your local Apple Store and have them check out everything that's wrong with it - and I mean everything? Then, when you get an estimate about how much it would cost to get the machine completely repaired, ask about the Apple flat-rate repair pricing?
It's worth a shot - and with what you may save, you can put in the bank for a new MBP.

  • How to minimize Final Cut pro with one click?

I know you can minimize windows (canvas, timeline, etc) by pressing Command+M 4 times but how to minimize Final Cut pro with one click?

Hold down the Option key and click the Minimize button on any window, all windows in the app will minimize.
Don't know what or if the reverse of this is - so although it's a one click minimize all windows, I believe you have to re-enlarge them one at a time.

  • I tunes has stopped working in windows 7 and I don't know how to get the crash information that everyone else seems to get to know what the cause is....any help?  I have a toshiba windows 7 computer.

I have a toshiba computer and it is windows 7, recently after I installed imatch everytime I open itunes I get the message 'i tunes has stopped working' and windows cannot find a solution and has to close.  There is no solution and I don't know how to get the crash information on my computer....can anyone help as I want to finish downloading all my songs to match to be available on my mac products.

    Re: That garbage is unreadable.
If you really want help, stop messing with the fonts and post so that others can read and offer suggestions.
Or better yet... try a search, I'm certain you'll find a solution to whatever issue you're experiencing.
I have found that many times it is the things that make you most angry that push you to action. This was the case here. Thank you for causing me to get so angry that I found the answer myself.

  • How to restore without losing playlists created manually

I assume I need to restore my iPod because I inadvertently locked the volume limit and can't unlock it. (I clicked on combination, which locked it automatically without giving me a chance to enter a combination).
So, my question is how to restore without losing the playlists as I have them, given that I manually synced each song individually from various iTunes playlists.
    Thanks,
    Karen

You can't restore an iPod without losing all the data stored on it.
It seems from your post that the playlists are still in iTunes, so after the restore you can just transfer them to the iPod once more.
If the playlists are no longer in iTunes (and solely on the iPod), and if you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.

  • I'm shooting great white screen but when I key out the white background, I have a very thin white outline around my person that I don't know how to soften without loosing some facial opacity. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I'm shooting white screen and FINALLY have my lighting, white balance, exposure and focus making a great looking, crispy clip! But when I key out the white background in a short segment, I'm left with a very thin, white outline around my person that I don't know how to soften, without loosing facial opacity. I only tried using the 'Edges' tool. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

No separate server app on the laptop, it's all samba
The files are on a windows laptop and a hard drive hooked up to the windows laptop. The windows share server is pants, so I'd need some sort of third party server running. Maybe you weren't suggesting to use Samba to connect to the windows share though?
I'm glad that you've all understood my ramblings and taken and interest, thanks The way I see it, I can't be the only netbook user these days looking for this kind of convenience, and I certainly won't be once chrome and moblin hit the market.

You swipe left to right on the song, press the red delete button.
If that does not work, turn off iTunes Match and try again.

  • How can I use the bridge photos that are thumbnail size and place in Photoshop to edit, etc?  The size is too small, - how to enlarge without blur?

When I use Bridge to transfer a photo into Photoshop, the size is thumbnail.  It is too tiny to edit into Photoshop.  How to enlarge without blur?

That is the actual size of your image file. 48 x 38 is very small.
That is not a Bridge or Photoshop problem.
It is a very small image and you cannot enlarge it more than x 1.5.
If you want a large photo you must ask for it from whoever gave it to you, or take a bigger photo if it is yours.

  • How to minimize Client-Server Round-trip in ADF Faces application ?

    Hi All,
We have just finished POC on our prototype of ADF Faces + ADF BC application. The POC Emphasizes on Bandwidth requirement.
After receing the result from the communication provider, including : TCP packets send, Bytes sent from/to server and number of Client-Server Round-Trip.
There are several part of the application that Must be tuned for the application to run on acceptable performance.
Here is some page/ function that should be tuned :
    - First page, ADF Read Only Table with two images and some buttons, cause 5 round-trip
    - ADF Dialog Returning Value (as LOV), cause 4 Round-trips
    - On ADF Form, press Commit button, cause 3 Round-trips.
    So the question is :
    1) How to reduce round-trips on ADF Faces application ?
    2) How to minimize the bytes send from / To server on a specific user action ?
    Please give me some recommendation..
    Thank you very much,
    xtanto

    Hi Frank and Steve,
    Thank you for your reply.
Yes Frank, what I mean by Round-Trip is the traffic between Client and the Server. And Yes, we will use VSAT where the latency is 1 - 1.5 second, so that round-trip matters significantly.
What I will do is :
    - use minimal skin and No image at all
    - don't use Dialog for LOV because it requires AutoSubmit there.
    - Use 'Apply-Changes' button to do server-side validation before Commit.
Then do the POC / testing again.
    Thank you,
    xtanto

  • Is Elements Organizer 9 robust (powerful) enough to organize 10,000 photos without crashing?

I'm scanning literally thousands of photos from my 40 years as a photographer. I'm currently using Elements Organizer 9 to keep them organized using keytags and dates. I want to know if I can trust this basket to hold ALL my "eggs". I'm afraid I may get a "corrupt catalog" error message and all my work will be null and void. I would love to switch to using Adobe Bridge but it's out of my price range right now as I'm home on disabnility with a torn shoulder.
Does anyone know of Elements Organizer can handle 10,000 plus photos without crashing?

I have been using PSE6, PSE10, PSE11 and PSE12 with catalogs containing 50 000 items. There has been posts about users with more than 100 000 items. The organizer offers a good backup scheme.

A 'corrupt' catalog is something very rare, but you'll see many posts about catalogs containing 'corrupt' media files (mainly videos). The risk is minimal if you regularly use the built-in tools to repair and optimize the catalog and do regular backups.
One of the main concerns about losing one's organization is about keywords, captions, tags and notes. The organizer lets you save those data to the files themselves, so that they are accessible to any other editing software.
A PSE9 catalog can be read and converted to more recent Elements versions, as well as by Lightroom. I would advise upgrading to PSE12 when you can, but PSE9 is still a valid option.
