How to mount dvd?, i tried using mounting wrappers.

I just installed Arch today an im trying to get dvd/cd mounting working. Ive already read the wiki, specifically articles on Udev/Udisks(im using xfce4) and fstab. I also tried poking around /dev and /media to see if i could find it but /media was empty and i couldnt find it on/dev. Would anyone care to poke me in the right direction?. Cheers

On xfce4, all should be fine if you install gvfs (not sure that the whole gvfs is really needed or only some of its dependencies). You need to be properly autentificated as a local user though. This should be done automatically if you login with a supported login manager (I think all are; I know that plain xdm is) or through the console and startx. As a quick check; try to play some audio file (no not add yourself to the audio group). If you can; then you are correctly authenticated (if you can't but can as root then you are probably not correctly authenticated). You can also check the status of loginctl show-session $XDG_SESSION_ID

  • How to create dvd/cd image using super drive in MacBook Air

I have MacBook Air and also Apple Supper drive for the same. can u help me to find dvd/cd burrning and copy software. and also guide me "how to create dvd/cd image using super drive in MacBook Air"

First to create a video DVD you need to use DVD authoring software like iDVD.  You can purchase it from the online Apple Store while supplies last.
For creating a disk image use Disk Utility.
To burn items to a CD or data DVD just insert the disc in the optical drive and drag those items onto the disc icon on the Desktop.  Then drag the disc icon to the Trash icon in the Dock which changes to a Burn icon.

  • How To Copy DVDs to iPod using free software for Windows

To take existing DVDs that you have around the house and put them onto iPod:
You'll need two programs, DVD Decrypter and Videora iPod Converter.
Now, use this step by step tutorial for converting DVDs with DVD Decrypter. Note: Once you reach the part about PSP Video 9, stop watching and use the 'One Click Transcode' option in Videora to select and convert the VOB file that DVD Decrypter produces.
Once you have a converted file, add it to iTunes in the same way as music (drag it into the iTunes library) and it will automatically copy across to your iPod.

Is that an error message coming up when you try to use the program? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.
If you cannot get DVDs to rip then that could be a problem. But to be honest, I have no idea what an ASPI layer is and my copy of DVD Decrypter works fine. I suspect this is probably an integral Windows component and you already have it.

  • Need help figuring how to track DVD drive usage

I work at a public library and need to track how often the DVD drives are used by our patrons.  Is there some count somewhere of how many times the drive is accessed?  The only other way I can think of to do this is to run a script that will check
if any files exist at E:\ and then sleep for 1 minute and check again. Then, create a log in a central location that the script can update if the file exists.
Anyone able to come up with a better idea?  I would really appreciate any input.
    Thanks
    Tamara

Yes, I am a technician.  I work at the library that I am attempting to collect this usage info from.  I just need to know how often our patrons use the drives because we may not offer the drives in the future and I would like to track a couple
months of usage to determine how this will affect the patrons.
Yes, the PCs are very locked down, but since I am the one that locked them down, I can get the script to run.
Thanks for the info about the event log.  I will work on a script to filter those events.  Seems like that would give me my answer!
    Thanks again for the help!

  • How do you burn videos taken with myIphone and stored on my computer to a DVD disc.  I purchased and tried using RealPlayer Plus 16 but got error message saying "unsopported media type"?  I alos tried using Real Players file converter with no success!

How do you burn videos taken with my Iphone 4S and stored on my computer to a DVD disc.  I purchased and tried using RealPlayer Plus 16 but got error message saying "unsopported media type"?  I also tried using Real Players file converter with no success!  Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Probably the OP is no longer paying attention to this unless the OP is subscribed to this discussion.  While not really an iPhone question I guess using an iPhone to produce the movie which then needs taking to the next step makes this as good a starting place as any unless you happen to know enough about what to do to determine in which forum to post.  A suggestion in that direction would help.
Anyway, Apple is backing off from supporting optical media.  It also depends upon what you mean by "DVD".  A DVD is just an optical disc which can support different file formats, but many people think it means a movie disc you can put in your TV.  Producing a movie disc requires special iDVD authoring software Apple used to sell but stopped several years ago.  I don't know if the old versions work under newer systems.  There's also the free Burn application which authors DVDs but takes a bit of learning and has nowhere near the features of iDVD.
If the OP means simply burning the transferred movie files to a DVD for archiving in computer format you don't need special software for that; its built into the operating system File > New Burn folder etc.

  • How to mount USB & CDROM drives from single user mode - Solaris boot disk?

    Hi All,
I need to carry out ufsrestore on a single newly replaced system disk (no redundancy / mirroring) from either USB or CDROM drives from the following steps:
    ( i ) GRUB => e, e, cdrom –s, Enter, b (boot from Solaris 10 x86 media).
( ii ) Choose menu 1 for Install Solaris Interactive Mode to reach single user mode.Below are the commands that I have tried in single user mode without success:
mount –r –F pcfs /dev/dsk/c1t0d0p0 /cdrom (after unmount Solaris CD)
mount: /dev/dsk/c1t0d0p0 is not a DOS filesystem.
    svcadm –v enable smserver
svcadm: Pattern ‘smserver’ doesn’t match any instances
    svcadm enable autofs
svcadm: Pattern ‘autofs’ doesn’t match any instances
    devfsadm
devfsadm: mkdir failed for /dev 0s1ed: Read-only file system
    mkdir /mnt
mkdir: Failed to make directory “/mnt”; Read-only file systemPart of the problem is due to the current READ ONLY filesystems which does not allow the creation of mount point such as /mnt.
I have been able to create both / root (/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0) and /export/home (/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0) filesystems with newfs that are awaiting for restore using ufsrestore.
The only option I am left with is to attach a secondary disk to install Solaris 10 on either of them before bring the system to multi-user mode so that service such as volmgt, autofs, volfs are available to access USB & CDROM drives.
Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue?
    Many thanks,
    Jack

    Hi JKGN,
Is the directory a located under the root filesystem. ie /a? Are there any other mount point for say USB drive as well? I am not in a position to try it out right now but will get back
to you soon on whether /a exist or not.
Btw, the last thing I managed to do on this system at the time was added a secondary 1TB internal disk with the intention to restore both / and /export/home data onto this disk while
making use of all the disk device management services such as the following services only available in a fully installed Solaris system (both single & multi-user modes) installed on the
    primary disk:

As a result, I am left with no option but the need to rebuild this system with only a single primary disk while in single user mode. However, the single user mode that I am in is the
one from Solaris installation disk with restrictive (_cannot create folder for mount point or running disk management utilities_) capability such as those services just covered, compared to one from a completed Solaris installation system with full access to all filesystems and utilities / commands in general.
I would very much value your assistance on how to mount both CD & USB in this restrictive limited Read Only OS (assume that it is running from memory) in order to get complete access to
the blank primary disk so that full restore with ufsrestore could take place.
    Thanks in advance,

  • How to mount a volume on an Ubuntu server in Finder?

I am a newbe in such advanced functions, but I like to find solutions and it is hard for me to give up.
I have a MacBook 13,3 and an Ubuntu server. I have managed to connect to the a USB printer connected to the server. But I have not found out how to mount the server in Finder, so that I can use an external disk connected with USB as a Time Machine disk.
Can anyone help me, and please as simple and basic as possible :-)?

so i'll admit that I haven't done this but it would seem that since Ubuntu includes Samba you could, from 'Finder' click cmd-k and type in smb://[the path to the share]
that said I found this on the web:http://www.kremalicious.com/2008/06/ubuntu-as-mac-file-server-and-time-machine-v olume/
instead of mounting the disk via Samba, it tries to use a more native approach.....that said, this definitely looks more involved.

  • How to mount USB Flash Drive

    Hello again Arch-Linux users,
I always search google very hard and for months (off and on) I search for how to mount a USB Flash Drive.  Nothing ever work so I give up than try again months latter.  I don't want to give up anymore and that is why I join this forum.
Here are some of the code I found on the net.  Some of these commands will only re-mount the entire Arch-Linux running system in  /mnt/usbstick.
    sudo mount -o rw,noauto,async,user,umask=1000 /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbstick
... don't work it only re-mount the entire system
    /dev/sda15 /mnt/usbstick  vfat   user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    ... don't work... I found nothing inside /mnt/usbstick
    mount -t vfat -o rw,nosuid,nodev,quiet,shortname=mixed,uid=1001,gid=100,umask=077,iocharset=utf8 /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbstick
... don't work... here is the error i get:
mount: /dev/sda1 already mounted or /mnt/usbstick busy
mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda1 is mounted on /
It strange that most USB mount commands use the operating system partition itself- example: /dev/sda1 as the device for USB device, while others use /dev/cdrom for cd - /dev/dvd for dvd and /dev/fd0 for floppy.
Could someone post the code that will easily mount a usb device under Arch_Linux.
    I'm using Arch-Linux core-64 (08-2009)
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks fsckd,
I needed a rapid reply because I been wasting too much time not getting anything done because I needed to get pass this flash-drive thing.  I can now have a secure back-up in my pocket on USB to go.  Arch-Linux does it better for what I seen while just dd'ing on disk.
    ...lsusb
    Found it

    Thanks demian,
sdb is the location for my single hard-drive machine.  I saw it before in my list above but I changed it to sda1 because I knew no better.  I had no clue it represent a 2nd hard-drive for LINUX if one is not already present.
    This did it for me
    Thanks again

  • How to mount network share on lion permanently

I want to know how to mount a network share from my NAS on mountian lion.
I have seen and tried the suggestions about using command+k or the "go connect to server" and mounting that way so the password for the share is put into the keychain, then dragging the now mounted share to the system preferences user login items.
However this isn't satisfactory. It causes windows to pop up for each share that I have when logging in.
What I Want is for the share to appear as a mounted hard drive in the left navigation column of the finder window. I'd also like to be able to make a shortcut to the share on my desktop (or put it in my dock bar). If it shows up under devices that is perfection okay too, just so it's there somewhere logical.
The pop up windows simply clutter up the desktop, and if they are closed, then the share is closed too, and then there is a manual process of having to use the very tedious command+k or go connect to server method to connect again.
I need them to be able to click and open the share. I don't need them wasting time putting in share paswords and the link over and over.. the share should just be there for them as they work through the day. And if they close the folder/window, then it should be easy to get back to it.
This is possible on windows and I want these mounts to work the same way.
    note: my NAS uses smb

That should work. You could try deleting the passwords in Keychain associated with it and try it again.
    Another route: Create Applescript:
Select the network drive and get info on it. Copy the server address. Open up Applescript Editor in the Utilities folder and create a new script. Type in mount volume, add space, "paste server address within quotations", and save as application to your documents. Run it from within applescript editor to verify it works. When it asks for a passwork, save it in Keychain.
Under system preferences/accounts/login items, click the + sign to add and select the saved application.

  • How to mount a sharepoint server from the finder

Can anyone help me with how to mount a microsoft sharepoint services server from the finder. I need to do this because I want to use the collaboration features in Acrobat 8. In order to create a shared review I need to be able to open the document from the sharepoint site with the full version of acrobat and I cannot do that from the web browser. From a PC I would choose to add a network location and the wizard creates a network location in the explorer, then I can access the sharepoint site (across the internet) like another file folder on my local network. I cannot seem to figure out how to accomplish the same thing on the mac. When I put in the URL for the share point site in the connect dialog from the finder it opens a webdave dialog box asking for a domain name and I have no idea what that is and it tells me the password or user name is not correct. Any help would be appreciated

You might want to pose this question in the networking forum too.

  • How to mount external drives

Being new to iMac and connecting four external drives I need to know how to mount and dismount them

    noondaywitch
Thanks for your help and I've followed your reply and yes I can see how to mount and eject drives.
Probably it would have helped if I had told you that my drives are all USB.
All connected to a small four way hub which is then connected to one USB socket in back of computer.
One - I use as a music drive and is a 160 gb iomega
Two - is a partitioned drive for Photoshop use 340 gb WD
Three - is a drive which has all my ex-Windows computer files and is one TB WD
Four - is a Video and Film drive of one TB WD
Five - is my dedicated auto backup drive which is of one TB WD and is connected directly to a USB socket of computer.
I normally set my computer to sleep until the next time I'm using it, then when I do go to use it, I get the warning message regarding drive was not ejected. Didn't have problems like this on PC so I became worried that in time I'm going to loose files and or the complete drive. Which one is giving me this message is also a bit of trial and error problem. Like suck it and see.....lol.
Anything else you can help me with this query would be most helpful and appreciated. Like do I have to eject all drives before leaving computer and then mount all the drives again for next session.
    Regards
    John

Does this mean you are not using the WIndows operating system, or you doi not want to do this 'manually' using some point and click method?
If this means, "do it automatically for reboots" and you are using the Windows OS, you need to set up a service and set it to automatic at reboot. Or, again in a Windows environment but at commnand line, use "net start {service name}" - as described in the manual.
