How to mount LinkStation LS421D volumes onto Mac desktop?

Hello,
How can I mount folders that I create on an LS421DE8AF onto the Mac OS desktop? I can't seem to get it to work. The Navigator software asks me to choose volumes I want to mount but nothing happens and then the selected folder remains greyed out!
This is my first time using a NAS and have just got an LS421DE8AF. I am using something called Navigator 2 on Mac OS 10.9.5. (the Mac is an iMac 27-inch, Late 2013)
PS. I know absolutely nothing about networking so if someone could help me in layman's terms I would be very grateful. Many thanks.
Kind Regards
Dave

Well, well, well.  For all of you newbies out there, on your apps page, just like an iPhone, there's a second
"dot" indicating a second page.  And there is the app.  Right there.  Thanks folks.

  • How to boot to Windows XP from Mac Desktop

    Hi
I have just installed Lepard/BootCamp/Windows XP and am wondering how to get to Windows from Mac when I'm logged on to Mac. I can access it via System Preferences but end up resetting my start up preferences to Windows in order to reboot from there. When I installed Windows it put a folder on my Mac Desktop that has the windows info -- does anyone know how to quickly reboot to Windows? On the XP side, there is a boot camp icon in system tray that allows you to choose to boot over to Mac from there. But not on the Mac side. Apple Tech Support told me there must be an easier way than going through the Sys Pref startup options but he was unable to find it. Suggested I try here. Any hep appreciated!

I know about the Option key ... when I power on the computer and hold that down, it gives me the option to choose one OS or the other, instead of going to the one I've set in Sys Pref startup ...
My question is when I have the Mac OS running and want to go to Windows ... the only way I seem to be able to do it is go back into Sys Pref and change the startup OS to windows. It will then give me the option to restart and go there right now, which will get me into Windows but at the cost of resetting the preferred startup OS.
On the Windows side there is the option to set the start up OS as well, so maybe that's the key? I wondered why you would need to set it on both sides, or have the ability. Maybe that's it! There has to be a better way to go from Mac to Windows than via the Sys Pref option.

  • How do I transfer exchange notes onto Mac IOS 10.9.4?

I'm a student in college and I have a lot of old notes and reminders written on my exchange account with microsoft. These notes are synced up on my phone but they won't sync up to my new MacBook Pro that just recently arrived. My microsoft exchange account is one of my internet accounts and even when the notes are synced up it will not display. I found a link online that supposedly solves this problem, but I think it only works for an older version of Maverick. Is there a way to transfer my notes?

  • How to make Nano NOT appear on Mac desktop as connected drive when I plug in to recharge it? Just want charging, not syncing, and don't want to unmount drive each time.

    I have a 6th generation iPod Nano.
I almost exclusively use it as an FM radio and as a pedometer -- so far I have not loaded any songs onto it for listening, nor do I intend to in the future.
    Here's my problem:
When my Nano runs out of juice, I have to use the charging cord to plug it into to my iMac's USB port to recharge the Nano. However, whenever I do so, two different (unwanted) actions happened:
First, the act of plugging in the iPod auto-launched iTunes, for syncing. I solved this problem by finding the preference check box for launching iTunes when connecting an iPid, and UNchecking the box. That worked, problem solved.
However, the second automatic action is that the iPod appears as a connected drive on the iMac desktop, as any external device with a drive would appear when connected to any Mac. But I have no need for this to be happening -- I don't intend to upload anything to the iPod, nor to sync it, or whatever -- the only reason I ever connect the iPod to the iMac is to RECHARGE the iPod, not to tinker with the contents of what's on it.
The problem is, every time I then want to disconnect the charging cord, I have to manually "unmount" the iPod drive by dragging its desktop icon to the Trash, when then allows the "it is now safe to disconnect your external drive" state to obtain, allowing me to then unplug it without getting a warning message telling me I shouldn't have just disconnected a connected drive without first unmounting it.
This wouldn't be such a bother, except that the 6th generation iPod Nano has a new "feature" which makes it impossible to see how far along the charging is progressing while it is still in the act of charging. Thus, the only way to know if it is has become  fully charged is to unplug it, and look at the battery monitor. While is it still connected and charging, all that displays on the iPod is the "charging now" battery icon, which does not reveal just how the charging is progressing, or if it is fully charged yet. (My iPhone, by way of contrast, displays during charging a battery icon which reveals how far charged it is by that point.)
As a result of this Nano "feature," I often find myself having to connect and disconnect the Nano two or three or more times each time I'm charging it, so I can simply check how far along the charging has gotten, since I want to disconnect it as soon as it has finished charging and get back to using it.
But so far, I have not been able to find any kind of setting or preference which allow me to identify this device as one which I DON'T want to "mount" each time it is plugged in.
All I want to do is just plug in the iPod, and be able to unplug it, without having to to ANY shenanigans on the computer itself. Just plug in = recharging, unplug = not charging any more. Simple.
Question: is there any way to achieve this? Or is it simply not possible, and must I manually unmount the iPod's drive (more than once, usually) each time I plug it in for recharging?

I should also point out that when I connect my iPhone, it DOESN'T appear as a connected drive on the desktop. Not sure how this can be so, since the iPhone also has a drive and also functions as an iPod if I want it to. I must have changed some setting to achieve this non-appearance, but don't remember what I must have done.
    What's the secret?

  • How do you make the toolbar larger, mac desktop?

Can anyone tell me how to make my toolbar, at the top of the display, larger? it is very tiny. I'm visually impaired. there doesn't seem to be any accessability program on the mac. I'm used to a full accessability program on windows can anyone help me reprogram the display. meaning specifically the font. we did it before on our ancient mac.. thanks for your help.

You would have to lower the display resolution to increase the size of the screen menubar. Some system fonts can be changed using TinkerTool. Other tools you can use are found in the Accessibility preferences.

I don't like any of the choices for scanning to computer because I want to scan NOT to Desktop (or Documents) but rather to specific folder on Desktop, specifically "xScanned Docs ƒ." How to I poke the buttons on the Scan interface to signal this command?

    Hey @fsnedeker,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with altering your Scan To folder options when scanning from your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer to your Mac OS X 10.10 computer. Can I please have you follow the steps below.
    1. Click on Apple and select System Preferences
    2. Click Print & Scan
    3. Select your printer on the left and select Options & Supplies
    4. Click the Utility tab. Select Open Printer Utility.
    5. Under the Scan Settings section select Scan to Computer
    6. Click on Edit Scan Tasks
    7. A list of Scan to Computer shortcuts will now open
    8. Select either Save as Jpeg or Save as PDF. Whichever one you would like to alter the folder for. Next, Select Edit.
    9. Under the Move Finder Items section, alter the 'To:' folder to whatever folder you actually want your scans to go to
    10. Once the  folder has been selected, click on OK to save the changes.
Now when you scan your items they should save in the new folder location you have just configured.
Please let me know if these steps resolve your issue. Best of luck!

  • How do I get a shortcut onto my desktop?

I would like to be able to create short cuts from a web site to my desktop as possible with outlook how do I do this?

    Hey stewartbee,
It's actually pretty easy. You just navigate to the website and click on the site icon (next to the url). Just drag the site icon to your desktop and it'll create a link for you. It might be easier to see it done, so you should take a look at the article [[Creating a desktop shortcut to a web page]].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Error Mounting ACFS volume onto another ACFS Volume

We have Oracle 11gr2 running on a two node cluster with OS of Solaris 10.
I have setup a few ACFS mounts that work great between the nodes, but I need to mount a ACFS volume onto another ACFS mounted filesystem. Can that be done?
    Example:
    First ACFS Mount - /opt/test
    Second ACFS Mount - /opt/test/samba
    I'm using the following commands:
    # /sbin/mount -F acfs /dev/asm/opttest-121 /opt/test
    # /sbin/mount -F acfs /dev/asm/optsamba-356 /opt/test/samba
mount: CLSU-00100: Operating System function: mount (/dev/asm/optsamba-356) failed with error data: 16
mount: CLSU-00101: Operating System error message: Device busy
    mount: CLSU-00103: error location: SM_0
mount: ACFS-02110: Unable to mount /dev/asm/optsamba-356 on /opt/test/samba.
If I mount the /dev/asm/optsamba-356 volume to /opt/samba it works. In this case /opt is a directory off of / (root).
    Thanks.
    Brian

    Hi Brian,
can't you simply mount it elsewhere and create a symbolic link?
Even if this would work, I have some doubts about it, since there is no internal mount order for the ACFS filesystems.
So what would happen if /opt/test/samba would be mounted before /opt/test?
    Sebastian
