How to move an inactive MobileMe username to iCloud?

I was setting up iCloud when I realised that I can't use my old (cancelled subscription as icloud was announced) mobileme (@me.com) username to create a new one. Is there a workaround? I dont wanna wait till nex July to register my me.com mail!

I've gone through the migration process fairly smoothly except for the loss of access to my mailboxes/folders for what was my mobileme account and that is now my iCloud one. The folders are all intact and accessible via iCloud.com, but I would really like to have them again in Mac Mail. Thanks.

So far as your photos are concerned, just make sure that you move any photos that you have in photo stream that you wish to save, across to your camera roll for stop
So far as contacts go, turn off contacts in your iCloud settings and you will be asked if you wish to keep the contacts on your device, you can then safely delete your account from your phone. When you add your own account to the phone and enable contacts, you should be asked if you then wish to merge your contacts.

If you migrated your MobileMe account before 1 August you should have signed into System Preferences>iCloud with it, and you would be able to see your calendars, bookmarks and emails on the iCloud website. Is this the case? Did you sign into iCloud with your @me.com address?
If you did not migrate your MobileMe account you can no longer do so.
If you did migrate, did you do so from a full MobileMe account or from a Family Pack sub-account? the latter did not get the complimentary storage (because their iDisks were only 5GB anyway).
If you had a full MobileMe account, check on your Mac - System Preferences>iCloud - and see whether that shows the upgrade. If it doesn't, you probably need to contact Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:

... I have found a (long winded) way to do this:
- Environment / Inactive Objects
- Add to Worklist
- Display Worklist
- Select All
- Activate
this will open a dialog titled "Inactive Objects for <username>"
which has the exact functionality I need ... but I can't figure out how to get to this dialog directly - without so many intermediate steps
the SAP docs repeatedly mention the ability to activate the inactive worklist - but do not mention how
does anybody know the TCode for this dialog?

ps does the term "mass activation" apply to importing change requests rather than development activation?

No other way. But usually it's far more simple as all objects are already in our own worklist.
I wonder why your objects are not already in your worklist, as everytime you create or maintain an object, it is added to your worklist.

I have a 2008 iMac which hard disk (as you probably know) is not upgradable. After 16 months of use the disk became full so I bought an external firewire drive (1T LaCie d2). My plan is to move most folders located under /Users/username/ (the Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music and Pictures folders) to the external drive and replace them with aliases.
Searching on the net, I found instructions on how to move the iTunes Music folder and how to change iPhoto default photos folder. I then moved the said folders and their contents to the external drive and created the aliases. Now when I try to delete the folders for their original location I get a message stating that "folders cannot be modified or deleted because they are required by Mac OS X". I know that I can delete these folders using terminal Unix commands but is this the correct approach?
Or should I go and create a new user account using as Home directory a folder located on the external drive? Or, alternatively, just change the existing user Home to one in the external drive?
I think my question is important and of general interest and I was really disappointed to find out that Apple has no documentation on this subject (or at least, I couldn't find any).

this happens because they are protected by "deny delete" ACLs.

that's one way to do it. then you can move the folders to teh external and put symbolic links, *NOT aliases* in their original locations.

that might be the easiest option. just copy the whole home folder to the external. then go to system preferences->accounts. unlock the lock at the bottom, control-click on your user and choose 'advanced options". in the popup change the location of the home directory to the external. then reboot and when you log in your home directory should be on the external. then you can trash the old home directory on the internal.

I have my prefered id, used with an inactive MobileMe account.
I would like to use the same email address with my iCloud account.
I try the "www.me.com/move" but I can't use it to migrate, since my account isn't active.
Any possible solution??
Or my only choice is to create a new address??

Inactive or expired MobileMe accounts
Inactive and expired MobileMe accounts do not need to move to iCloud. Simply use your inactive or expired account to sign up for an iCloud account and follow the onscreen instructions. See this article for more information.
