How to move anchor points

Hi, I have gone by what tutorials say and simply isn't working. It's really anoying. How do I move anchor points when I am using the pen tool in CS4?
Thanks.
Rich

Get in the habit of using keyboard shortcuts. P = Pen tool. A = Direct Select tool. AP = Penn tool, with Direct Select waiting under the Control/Command key. So press AP when using the Pen tool, not just P.
Or, just always use the Direct Select tool. Shortcuts available when using the Direct Select tool are: Hold Option (Mac) or Alt (Windows) for Object select, which selects an entire path; and Command/Control which always switches to the black arrow Move tool when your current tool is Direct Select. The difference between the Move tool and the Object Select tool is the Move tool will only select groups, while Object Select will select individual paths within a group.

  • How to synch Anchor points?

Look, I have a logo, consisting of several graphic elements, which i cut from each other, and put on different layers in photoshop. Then imported PSD file to the canvas as layers. Now i want these layers to be placed in Z space, but to stay "a whole logo" viewing from the front view. I know how to "move and shrink", but every element grow-srink relative to own anchor point. So, how can i "synch" those points in XY plane to have them looking as LOGO, thus staying aside of each other in Z space? Hope you've understood what i meant
Or, what is the right workaround for this task? Thanks!

Oh, I think this is an easy one.

    Hello AI Community,..
in an earlier Illustrator CS version, i was able to display any Paths' anchor point Numbers or label. But in CS6 with both "Anchor/Path Labels" enabled in Prefs. > Smart Guide section and in View > Smart Guides, no Point Numbers are displayed.
    Please let me know,..
    1) ..how to display each paths anchor point numbers or label?
Thanks again for any help or suggestions,

    Thanks Kurt,..
just got in, checked and saw Measurment Labels, Anchor/Path Labels, Alignment Guides and Obj,Highlighting are all on. I also realized their working properly as "Anchor" and "Path" text labels display whenever moused over.
But i can't remember how i enabled anchor point numeric display?
Checked all menus i could find without luck.
    Any and all suggestions appreciated,

  • Moving Anchor Points in PSE 6.0 after lasso was used

As a former user of Microsoft Image Composer, I am trying to make a smooth transition for my photo croppers to Photoshop Elements 6.0. Here is the problem that I cannot solve:
In Image composer, I could use a Polygon tool to create a shape around a product (pants, for example). After making the shape, I could choose to "Move Points", which allowed me to adjust the points and refine the shap (lengthen one leg, adjust the width, etc). After the points were where I wanted, I would "Cut Out" the image. The end result is that some of the products (pants) are cut off to create the shape I want.
In PSE I have used the lasso tool to create the shape, but am unable to move the points. It is not reasonable to start over- some shapes are so complex, that it would take a lot of time to re-do.
How can I move anchor points? Should I use a tool other than lasso? Thanks for helping me make the switch to PSE!

For the marching ants, it sounds like you are using the quick selection tool. You want the regular selection brush, which only works exactly under the brush and doesn't do any thinking on its own.
The options bar settings for the Magnetic Lasso control it:
Width: how far away to look for edges
Edge Contrast: How much difference to look for between the edge and the background: A higher number = sharper contrast, lower number= softer contrast
Frequency: How often to put down those anchor points

  • Setting anchor point for changing page size

How can this anchor point be set for the whole page?

  • How can I move the Anchor points of multiple layers to the same position within comp?

I have a comp of a butterfly that I want to copy the keyframes to many other butterfly comps, but to get the animation to work, I need all the anchorpoints of the individual layers to be at the exact same location within the comp (So the left wing, right wing, and body anchor points are right on top of each other)
How can I accomplish this quickly? I have a lt of comps to do...
    Thanks all!

I would have set this up in Illustrator Before you started. Start with a rectangle that has either fill or stroke on a layer but the opacity is set to 0. The center of the rectangle will be the anchor point for that layer when you import as a comp maintaining layer size. Now create your left left side contents on the left side of the rectangle and repeat for the right side. Import as a comp and you'll be golden.
Here is a sample file and what the file looks like imported as a comp. Notice the x values of all anchor points are identical.
The artwork isn't great, it was created in less than a minute but it porves the workflow.

  • How do you center a title's anchor point?

I'm sure this is a simple question but I can't find anything in the forums that answer it.
I have a text title I want to center in the frame (horizontally and vertically, with text center aligned), but for some reason the guides seem to be wrong.  The yellow lines don't meet at the center of the frame, they meet at another point that seems to change randomly.  And the round handle (anchor point?) of the text box appears on the first line of text, rather than the vertical center of the text box.  How do I reset this or change it?  It says my anchor points are at  x 0 y 0, but that doesn't look right.  All I want to do is center all my text boxes (both horizontally and vertically) within the frame.  I hope this makes sense.  Please see images.  Thanks!

Are you sure that your settings in Video Inspector - Transform - Position  x =  0, y = 0 and not something else?
I don't think you can set the move handle to be other than under the first line.
    Geoff.

  • How to align an anchor point with an object?

I have a shape I made with the pen tool, and now I want to align one anchor point of the shape with the middle of a rectangle. How can I do this? It doesn't seem like I can do what I do for objects, which is select both objects, click the object I want to align to, and hit align. If I'm not describing this properly let me know and I can try to clarify.

    ...another way...
    1. grab the Rectangle Tool
    2. move your mouse on top of the Anchor you wish to align
    3. draw a rectangle wider than the shape, centered on the Anchor
         - click and drag to draw a rectangle (don't release yet),
         - then press Alt to make it centered on top of the anchor,
         - release the mouse, then the Alt key.
    4. select both your shape and the rectangle
    5. press Ctrl+G to group them
    6. select both, the newly created group and the rectangle
    7. align your shapes
    8. ungroup and delete your temporary rectangle
    9. to align vertically, make your temp rectangle wider and taller than your shape.

  • Cs6 , how can i add a anchor point in the curve in the channel Red or Green?

    Hi
how can i add an anchor point in the curve in the Channel R / G and B?
in cs5 , with ctrl + click i was able to click on the image and add an anchor point in the curve channel RGB
and with shift +ctrl + click i was able to click on the image and add an anchor poing in the channel Red , 1 in the channel Green  and 1 in the channel blue
i know cs6 doesn't have any more ctrl+mouse click , there is the targeted adjustamanent tool
i can do it with ctrl+m and call the curve
but i can't do it with curve adjustament tool
is there a way to add a anchor point in each channel red , green and blue (like the prev photoshop)?
    thanks

    thanks that's correct! thanks
    but it's not 100% correct
to add a multiple points in rgb shift+click doesn't work!
    from adobe
    Keyboard shortcuts: Curves
You can use these keyboard shortcuts for Curves:
To set a point on the curve for the selected color in each color component channel (but not in the composite channel), Shift+Ctrl-click (Windows) or Shift+Command-click (Mac OS) in the image.
To select multiple points, Shift-click points on the curve. Selected points are filled with black.
To deselect all points on the curve, click in the grid, or press Ctrl‑D (Windows) or Command-D (Mac OS).
To select the next higher point on the curve, press the plus key; to select the next lowest, press the minus key.
To move selected points on the curve, press the arrow keys.
(Curves dialog box) To set a point on the curve for the current channel, Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS) in the image.
If you’re instead using the Curves adjustment, simply click in the image with the On-image adjustment tool .

  • How to Change the Location of the Anchor Point

    Hi
Very new to affter effects.... i was wondering if you guys could please tell me how to move the blue anchor for animation of text please.

If you just want to move the anchor point on your text layer you can do it by hand instead of going in and manually adjusting it from the transform menu as Dave suggested.
However, by what you've written it seems like there may be some confusion about what moving the anchor point actually accomplishes.  So just to clarify, the anchor point, or the small crosshair icon usually in the middle or corner of the layer, is actually a customizable location that essentially dictates the center around which the position, scale and/or rotation values will change when your layer is animated over time with keyframes.
For example, if you would like to move the anchor point so that your text rotates around a point near the corner of the layer, you can press the Y key to activate the Pan Behind Tool and move the anchor point to the corner.  If you have CS6 you can hold down the Command Key to lock the anchor point to the center, corner or edge of your layer.  A little square will appear around the Anchor Point when it's ready to lock.
If you've keyframed some of the properties on a layer and would like to temporarily see how your layer looks without messing up any animation you've done on it, simply duplicate the layer by selecting it in the Comp's layer panel and going to Edit - Copy and Edit - Paste.  That way you can do whatever you'd like on the duplicated layer wihout harming your original  Then do one or more of the following:
A.) You can reset all of the trnsform properties of the layer by clicking Reset.  This will set your layer back to it's default transform settings.
B.) Or, you can delete all of the keyframes on an individual property by clicking the stopwatch again.
C.) Also, clicking the light yellow diamond next to the Source Name will delete a single keyframe and the arrows on either side will move the playhead from keyframe to keyframe.  You can of course always delete keyframes manually by selecting them in the timeline and hitting delete.  Holding Shift will snap the playhead to each keyframe.
I hope this helps and if you're still having trouble I highly reccomend you start here to learn After Effects or go here for additional information.

  • How do I dial in the anchor point for 3D rotation?

Flash knows where the anchor point is in 3D space in order for the symbol to rotate around it, but I can't seem to figure out how to see the coordinates of the anchor point or type in new ones. Please tell me how to do this. I am already very annoyed that Lynda, a pay service, doesn't think this is vital information. Apparently they think we would never want to do anything more visually stimulating than one simple spinning logo! But I digress...
Just to be clear, I know how to move the anchor point visually on the stage, but I want accuracy. I want to be able to give two symbols the exact same coordinates to rotate around.
    Thanks for your help.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for.
I also found a work around to what I was trying to do. You can select multiple symbols and rotate them around one axis, but that's not as accurate. BTW if you have any links to using 3D in CS4 that are beyond basic, I would love to see them.
    Thanks again,

  • AE CS5 - Shape Layer - Anchor point moves after position keyframe

I am experiencing unintuitive (to me) behaviour with a brand new shape layer. Here are the steps to reproduce the issue. I have made a screen cap of the problem but can't figure out how to upload it to this forum.
    1. In an existing composition, I create a new Shape Layer
    2. By default the anchor point (center point) is in the dead center of the shape layer. Perfect.
    3. I turn on Position keyframing, and add a position keyframe at my current time
    4. Instantly the anchor point now jumps to the center of the composition, and so now when I scale my shape layer it doesn't scale properly
If I try to use the Pan Behind tool, I get position keyframing. Besides, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS, since the anchor point was in the correct spot to start with, and it's only because of this keyframing "bug" that the anchor point jumps.
What am I missing or doing wrong? How can I add a position keyframe to a BRAND NEW LAYER that has no other animation on it, and still keep the anchor point in the dead center of my shape?
    Thanks for your advice,
    Tom

Thanks to Rick and Mylenium for your helpful answers. Rick, I'd prefer not to have to manually reposition, because I'm never going to be as mathematically precise as the software for positioning the Anchor Point dead center.
Using the transform controls on the shape rather than the global container certainly did the trick! You guys are great. Thanks.
    [rant]
In my defense as far as the constant exhortations to "RTFM", we all know that most veteran software users only go to the manual when there's a problem. You also know that Adobe's help system (particluarly in regards to search) has gotten worse over the years, not better. So when I run into a situation like this, I'm going to search through the help for what I believe the problem is: namely "anchor points", "transformations" and "keyframes", and maybe "shape layers". This is a fair amount of research, and it's exactly what I do as my first line of defense.
The second line of defense that most tech savvy folk do, is a Google search; for example: "anchor point moves after position keyframe" or "After Effects shapes layer anchor point moves keyframe" etc. And you spend your time sifting through forums trying to find the relevant answers. I feel that THAT is my true due diligence, rather than reading the F'n Adobe manual that is so very very sparse.
So after my due diligence, I turn to the experts communities, because there I know I will get educated, reliable help within a reasonable turnaround time. And because I myself contribute to these same forums in areas where I have higher than average expertise. The Adobe Forums have proven to be one of the great online resources.
Finally, now that I have a great answer from two knowledgeable experts (thanks again!), I've also enriched the community, because of the way I have crafted my post title, hopefully the next poor ******* who has a similar problem and a similar methodology to finding resolution will stubmle upon my post because I've tried to overload the title with relevant keywords that will generate hits in google.
Through my question, and your accurate answers, the global knowledgebase has improved.
So forgive me for not memorizing the F'n Adobe online help. I go to the resources that are the most useful, expedient, and provide the greatest value as a whole.

    Peace,
    Tom

  • Move Graphic to Flash with Anchor Points

I created a graphic in Illustrator CS5 that I want to use in Flash CS5.  How do I move the graphic to Flash and preserve the anchor points of the graphic so I can use them in Flash?  I have used the Import to Library function in Flash but once the graphic has been imported the anchor points are gone.
Here is some background in case I'm trying to do it incorrectly.  I have a speech bubble I created in Illustrator.  Now I need to use this speech bubble in a Flash animation but the bubble will need to resize according to how much text will be placed in it.  I can't just change the width and height of the bubble because that will make certain parts like the edges to big.  I need the bubble to "grow".  In Illustrator I can do this by select certain anchor points and moving them without effecting other points.  But in Flash I'm not sure how to accomplish this.

Thanks for the reply.  I just did some reading on 9 Slice and that is actually what I need.  Unfortunately it is not working correctly in Flash CS5 with my Illustrator graphic.
I setup 9 Slice in Illustrator and it works great in Illustrator.  I can resize my graphic and only the parts I want resize.  Then I saved the Illustrator file and tried importing it into Flash CS5 and I see the 9 Slice lines but when I resize the graphic 9 Slice is not working.  I tried creating a simple box in Flash with curved edges and 9 Slice worked with it.
Is there something special I need to do to get 9 Slice to work on my imported Illustrator graphic?  I tried creating new 9 Slice lines in Flash as well but that never worked either.  Am I missing something?

  • How can I reset the anchor point to its default?

One of the other guy using my machine screwed up the default anchor point position for text layers & for the life of us, we can't figure out how to reset it back to its default (centered on the text layer).
Right now, it appears a the bottom of the text layer (bottom left if left justified, bottom right if the text is right justified & bottom center if cerer justified).
Just to be clear, when typing out a brand new text layer, the anchor point does not appear in the center of the layer, as it normally does. Hitting "reset" in the tranform controls always moves the AP back to this position (ie, if I use the pan-behind tool to put the AP where it needs to be, then hit "reset", the AP moves back to the lower left corner of the layer)
I'm sure it's got to be some keystroke combination of some kind...
Anyway, does anyone know how to set it back to its default? It's a pretty big pain to have to manually set the anchor point for every text layer, and I kinda want to leave the "delete-your-prefs" option as a last resort...
    thanks
    D

As Rick said - there is no way in hell the text ever could have been perfectly centered to begin with. the behavior you are seeing is perfectly normal. Whenever you change the text, the anchor point will respond in kind. Only fixed size text blocks will reverse that principle and fit the content to the bounding box, leaving the anchor point unchanged.

  • How do I link to an anchor point  within a web page from within a PDF

    Hello,
Can someone tell me how to link to an anchor point on a webpage from within a PDF?
I created a page in Word and when i add my url with the # to reference the anchor eg. www.google.com/web#test1 and test the link it all works fine. I then create a PDF of this same page however the PDF seems to strip out the URL and looks to reference a file #test1.
    Any suggestions, ideas?
