I just got myself new mac,but thinking how easy i can move my applications only without redownloading and installing from diffrent places i got them..also it will take me alot of time...anyway to move those apps with there registration key from the old mac?
I wish to move only the apps and the setting i have made to them before....

When you set up the new Mac, it will offer the opportunity to migrate all your old data from the other one.
Lots of people skip that step, but you can run it any time. Find the program called "Migration Assistant".
It is in the Utilities folder and contains instructions on how to connect the two. All your registration keys etc. will be copied.
Beware that Power PC apps will not run with Lion. This is important. If you don't know the implications of that then write back.
Migration Assistant might take a while to complete - several hours is not unusual.

Depends on which software it is: for example some old versions are not supported anymore on Snow Leopard.

It can be possible to use the Migration Assistant, but you must take into account that any recent Photoshop requires activation with a server account, like Apple iTunes does for purchases. To avoid potential problems, you want to make sure that you deactivate any software (like iTunes or Photoshop) that you have installed from any company that requires activation, and then reactivate them after you migrate. Otherwise it is possible that any software you activated might stop working if it notices that the underlying hardware has changed.
Also, you only get 2 activations of Photoshop and 5 of iTunes, so you don't want to lose any because you forgot to deactivate before getting rid of the old Mac.
Migration Assitant is not perfect, so the most reliable way to migrate is to deactivate Photoshop before migrating and then run a clean installation of it after migration using your original media and serial number.

How do I get all of my old apps (purchased and free etc) that are on my work macbook pro onto my home imac to sync onto my phone again?

You need to connect the iMac and the MacBook together and copy the iTunes library from your laptop to your new iMac. That will bring over all of your music, books and apps. To copy photos you can copy your iPhoto library over to the new iMac as well.
You might also want to Authorize your new iMac. Do this in the iTunes menu.
When you next connect your iphone to your iMac you will see all of your stuff there.

I now have a brand new MacBook Pro laptop and have transferred everything except my apps from my old iTunes on PC to my new one using the home share function because there seems to be no option for the apps. I've made sure the box is ticked in the General Tab of my Preferences on both computers but the apps still don't show up. Am I missing something? I get how to move the music. I get how to transfer the store purchases. My fear is that I will somehow lose my Contacts and Calendar information, and my game progress. Luckily, my old XP is still working. I have an external drive. I've downloaded and installed the current iTunes to both the XP and Win 8 machines. I've created an encrypted backup of the iPad 2 (iOS 6.1.3) on the old XP. I know where that backup lives within the Application Data. I know where the iTunes Folder lives within the My Music section of My Documents. I see that it's arranged differently within the file structure ("Music" vs "Media") as compared to the Win 8 machine. I'm not using Outlook to sync Contacts or Calendars on either machine. I'm not averse to using iCloud, but again, afraid of losing Contacts. Hours of fruitless searching and contradictory and outdated advice have lead me to write to you all. If anyone can provide clear, concise, step by step instructions on how to sync my iPad 2 with my new computer so that I can get back to playing Candy Crush without losing my Contacts, I would greatly appreciate it!!!

I have a 2007 macbook on 10.6.8. I have lots of photos that I want to move onto a new Macbook Pro on Yosemite. I have an ethernet cable. I have connected the 2 laptops. I connected to the old laptop on the new one and dragged the iphoto library file onto iPhoto on the new laptop. It asked if I wanted to merge the libraries which I agreed to and now it doesn't seem to be doing anything. When I click iPhoto on the new laptop it says it is upgrading the library. I was going to leave it sitting to do this but it just exits iPhoto after a few minutes. How do I fix this and get the photos on the new laptop?! Thanks.

I have Photoshop CS3 on my old Mac and can't move it to the new. I downloaded it origanaly so I have no disk. I migrated the app to the new but it will not open. I do have the product registered with adobe but can not physicaly speak to anyone for an answer. It does not show up as a past order in the system.

Some people have experience issues migrating from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I did not. But if you are getting a brand new MBP, it will have Lion on it, so that's a different story. Ideally, I would migrate my home/user folder and settings, but not my apps, then install Lion-ready apps from original discs.

My situation was I have an iMac 27inch 2010 running Mavericks and added another HD with a SSD drive and needed to get my Mail messages into the new Mail app on the SSD drive.
I downloaded a freeware called "Invisiblix" which finds hidden files then went to old hard drive - Users - Username - Library (was hidden for me) - Mail - and copy Mail folder to new Mail folder on the new drive (SSD) make sure Mail is closed. Follow same procedure to get to new mail on new drive.
Worked perfectly for me.

The way I usually do it is to create an Address Book backup database file (sorry; on a PC at the moment, not sure of the exact wording) on the "old" computer, then copy that file to the new one. Then, from on the new computer, open Address Book and choose to import or restore from a database file (again, sorry for not having the exact wording). When it prompts you to replace your existing data (of which there should be very little if anything), choose yes.
This assumes that by "address book" you're referring to Apple's built-in Address Book, not, for example, Microsoft WhateverTheEquivalentApplicationWouldBe 1.0. .

Just moved CS4 Web from old mac to new using time machine. I get an error when I try to launch a program on the new computer (150:30). After contacting live chat about the issue and providing all serial numbers etc. I was directed to a download. The download was a .dmg file that my computer did not recognize. It was suggested that I ask the experts on the forum how to resolve the issue. I have all the discs and serial numbers but the new macbook pro doesn't take discs (I guess they think all apps are downloadable now). Any ideas?

I just migrated into a new MBP from an old one.
It did not bring the music over. Apple's instructions are to use the Home Sharing feature of iTunes.
Open iTunes on your old Mac. Select Home Sharing under the Advanced menu. Sign in. Do the same on your new computer. Then when the library appears under Home Sharing on the left-hand panel on your new computer's iTunes, you can select all and Add To Library.
That's what Apple says, anyway.
