How to move Apple Backup Folder on PC

Hi,
I'm new here, so sorry if i did something wrong.
I have a big problem. I have an iPod Touch 4g. When I sync it with iTunes there are some files in AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/MobileSync/Backup
and they are more then 20 GB. My local disk C is full, I dont have space and my computer is slow. But I have much spase in Disk E and D, so please tell me, how to move those files from there, on other disk. Do i need to change something in iTunes or what? I try to delete them, but the can't be deleted. Please tell me how to move them, not only change to foldre, also how to move the curent files. Thanks!

  • How to move/copy Home Folder to a new hard drive?

Hard drive crashed in Snow Leopard, but before it did I pulled off my home folder. I am going to reinstall Snow Leopard on a new hard drive. How do I move/copy my home folder to the new hard drive? The home folder is sitting on an external hard drive that connects via firewire 400. Do I simply recreate the user account on the computer with new hard drive and copy/move the old home folder over to overwrite the new home folder? Looking forward to any suggestions.

Normally you can move your exiting home dir to another drive without any problems.  For example, see
How to Move the Home Folder in OS X – and Why
But you appear to want to take a home dir from another system and make it the home dir on another system.  That may or may not work.  The operations are the same, i.e., point to the new home dir via the Accounts  system prefs advanced options.  But if the account id's are not the same there is going to be permissions problems.
Similarly, you can have permissions problems for the same reason just copying the stuff over the newly created home dir.
If you already know the user id's are the same then I think you may just get away with the substitution.

  • FW vs. USB & can you move a backup folder to a larger drive later?

I'm about to get an external drive to use for TM. Is Firewire (400 or 800) going to be noticeably faster than a USB drive? I ask because I would think that a single external platter can only transfer so much data to the disk at once and USB might be fast enough to keep the drive maxed out as far as write speed.
I have a 320 GB internal drive in my iMac and have used 125 GB so far (195 GB free). I'll probably get a 750 GB external drive for TM. If it fills up in 6 months (give or take - I don't add/change that much data per day) can I then buy a larger, say 1.5 TB drive and copy the TM backup folder to the new drive and have the TM app see all the old backups on the new drive?
    Thanks in advance

    engstrom,
Best I can tell, drives are currently topping out at about 1.5 Gbs/sec. This is for 7200 RPM external drives, connected on an eSATA bus. So yes, a very large benefit can be realized by using your best bus for connecting an external drive.
I have just such a drive, but I am using its Firewire 800 functionality (I haven't yet picked up an eSATA Expresscard). In real-world use, it will transfer about 3 GBs (that's gigaBytes) a minute, over the Firewire 800 bus. I am interested to find what it will do over eSATA, once I pick up a card.
If transfer speeds are a concern to you, I do recommend that you get the best drive you can, and use the best connection you can. USB will be somewhat slower than FW 400, and FW 400 is half the speed of FW 800.
I'm not certain that you're going to be able to transfer the backup on one drive to another. You may need to start over with a new "full" Time Machine backup, then continue from there. There's no problem with copying the Time Machine backup to another drive, and there is no problem with then changing Time Machine's preferences to use this new drive. What I'm not sure about, however, is that Time Machine will then recognize the existing backup as "its" backup, and not some other machine's. Not having had the chance (or cause) to test this yet, I'm just not certain.
Even if it turns out that Time Machine will not recognize the copied backup, it's not that big a deal. Your older backup will still remain on the old drive; you'll just have your backups spanning multiple drives. In the end, this might be better anyway, since more space will be available for your future backups.

  • How to move an app folder from screen to screen

Can I move an app folder I created on one screen to another?

The folder will 'bounce back' if you 'flick' the folder to the edge.
To move the folder to another screen, you need to firmly tap and hold and slowly slide your finger to the right. Keep your finger held down on the right side of the screen until the screen shifts. Then, release your finger.

  • How remove WD Smartware backup folder

I bought a WD external drive a few years ago. Initially I used the WD provided SmartWare backup software, but I soon stopped using it in favour of an alternative solution.
On review of current disk usage, through use of OmniDiskSweeper application on my iMac, then I see a whoppingly large folder HD/Volumes/MyBook/wd smartware.swstor. This folder appears to contain a full system backup at the time of use of SmartWare. I can see the folder through OmniDiskSweeper but not via Mac Finder. I have disconnected all devices from the mac ... in Finder then if I click on root level then there is no /Volumes folder.
Much to my surprise I noted a folder (not Applications) on my iMac that still contained the SmartWare app. I could find no evidence that this app was still running on my iMac but I duly used the provided SmartWare app and restarted mac.
    Question ... how can I locate/delete the HD/Volumes/MyBook folder?
For context then I have sufficient backup coverage through other means.
    Thanks, Ross

    Hi Alejandro_64,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand you are trying to restore a specific application from your Time Capsule using Time Machine. The following article may be of some assistance for restoring the application as it was. The section that will be most relevant to you is Restoring data from Time Machine backups toward the bottom. One option listed in this article is restoring the entire system from a backup; I know this is a longer process but if you have the informations set the way you need it you may want to consider this process. Please remember thought that any information added after the backup you are restoring from will be removed so you may want to move those files onto the Time Capsule.

  • How to move Mobile Applications folder while sharing an Itunes library

For reasons that would be long and hard to explain, I decided some times ago to open a second user on my Book Pro dedicated to my music collection. The collection required to be stored on an external HDD, so the second user's Itunes folder links to a folder where all music is stored, and I put it with all library files (xml etc) in the Shared folder. Now I have decided to let the primary and mostly used user to share the same music of the secondary one. I easily succeeded in doing this, just simply opening the primary ITunes and ask it to link to the Itunes folder under the Shared folder. I have got my entire library also from the primary user, with covers and so on.
The trouble is that I use to manage an Iphone with the primary ITunes, and since I have not moved the Mobile Application folder (and what more?) into the shared ITunes folder, I cannot see anymore all data and applications into my IPhone section under ITunes, and I do not want to run experiments, doing a sync and just running the risk to lose all. How can I share the same ITunes library between two users, but to allow one of those still to see the IPhone data that was originally managed only from her ITunes, that now addresses to the ITunes folder under Shared folder that addresses to a HDD?.....

Still misspeaking. Further use reveals that while the users iTunes use the shared file, when the phones add new apps their iTunes recreates its iTunes Media directory in the users home folder. This time I can exit iTunes, move the apps to the shared Mobile Applications, delete and empty trash the original apps/ and folder, then the users iTunes will find the app in the shared folder when it restarts. Clearly not very tidy...

  • How to move a backup and still use it?

    Hello everybody
    Mi problem is this one:
    Oracle 9i (9.2.0.8) Standard on Solaris 9.
Daily automated RMAN Full Backup (no incremental available since is standard) to disk.
I do not have enough space on disk to keep more than 1 backup ( and I need at least 3 of them: today, yesterday and last week (sundays) ) on the same disk, so my backup script does the following:
    1) Deletes (o.s. command) yesterday backup from "/backups".
    2) Runs full backup script (create backup on "/backups").
    3) Copy (o.s. command) the backup to "/oldbackup" which is a NFS mounted disk with enough available space.
    4) Deletes (o.s command) the older backups except today, yesterday and last sunday one).
    5) Runs a DELETE OBSOLETE to keep the catalog more or less up to date (I have a retention policy of redundancy = 8, so it deletes from the catalog copies older than 8 days).
The problem is, if I need to restore something from a backup prior to today's, I have to move it first from "/oldbackup" to "/backup" (and in order to do it, I must first delete today's backup :-( )
I would like to know if there is any way to tell RMAN that yestarday backup is not anymore in '/backup' but in "/oldbackup".
Any other aproach (other than buying more disk, it is not available right now) would be very apreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lisandro.

    Ebrian:
Thanks for your help !!! the idea of duplex the backup set may be the best one.
Although the backup may take a little longer (since it has to write to the mounted NFS directiry), it is run during the night, when activity is minimal.
I've already though making a BACKUP BACKUPSET, but that would need to make space available before restoring the "backupset" backup, so it does not fix completely the problem.
The symbolic link is also a good idea, but needs more admin at O.S level.
I'll go with the duplex backup and tell you how it's working.
If anyone else thinks of another way, I'll be glad of hearing about.
    Thanks again ;-)

  • How to move rman backups on tap from disk

    Hi,
I have rman backup files on the disk, now how we can move these files to tap. is there any rman command or is there any script to move.
    Thank you!

Do you use FRA (Flash recovery area)?
If you use FRA then configure RMAN to take backup to tape. And backup fra to tape.
    RUN
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch0 TYPE ‘SBT_TAPE’;
    BACKUP RECOVERY AREA;
    RELEASE CHANNEL ch0;
If you don't use FRA then you can backup your backupsets which are on the disk to tape.

    Thanks Arthur for your reply.
My english is not that good, so I'll try to explain what I'm affraid of.
If doing so, all the programs will recognize as the "System known" folder?

It sounds like this question is for Photoshop. This is a Flash forum. In any case, is your question about real folders on your computer, or server, or are asking about the files and folders in the "Layers" panel? Or, is your question about using the Library panel in Flash?

  • How to move local Adobe folder?

  • How to move iPhoto storage folder ?

    Hi,
    I'm a new MAC user.
Here's my set-up : I've got a MacBook Pro connected to an Aiport Extreme, and I plugged a WD 1Tb drive to the Airport Extreme.
So I set up iTunes preference so my music library is directly on the Terabyte drive. Everytime I add something to iTunes it gets on the Tb drive.
I'm looking desesperatly for such a feature in iPhoto '08 !!
In the importation options, I only see two checkboxes but I couldn't find nowhere to change where the photo will be saved. Of course I could uncheck that box and just add my folders but I like the way iPhoto sorts the file, just like iTunes.
    Anybody can help please ?
    Thanks !!

    Uge
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
However I must point out that many posters on here have problems with iPhoto and wireless connections - iPhoto is a much more complex app than iTunes, it doesn't like the Samba protocol, it has definite issues on disks that are not formatted MacOS extended (Journalled) and folks also find it very slow.

  • How to move Apple Mail from one Mountain Lion mac to another Mountain Lion Mac?

What is the easiest way to do this?

The easiest way would be to just reenter the settings for the account in question in Mail.app.
Then Mail would access the mail server online and download whatever is on the server (depending on your mail settings, and the server settings).
If you have mail stored on your Mac that is not on the server, then you could move the stored mail files too. This is a bit more complicated.
