How to move audio in iMovie?

My son is working on a school project and we're borrowing a Macbook to use for it. He is currently stuck on moving an audio clip so it doesn't overlap his video clip. I have no idea what he's doing because he's so savvy with video programs...except, apparently, with iMovie. Please help as soon as possible.

Good tutorial here.

  • Move audio in iMovie

    Hi!
How to move audio relative to video?
I have video and audio recorded separately. On my video camera is poore microphone sound when I'm away from the camera. So the sound I'm writing on a digital recorder. Then combine sound and video tracks in video editor.
How can  i do this in iMovie? How can I move the sound relative to video?

Yes you can, just make sure you get the audio into an iMovie compatible file format before you drag it in. Easiest way to do this is to add it to your iTunes Library and let iTunes do the necessary conversion. When you are in iMovie, you will pull the audio track from the iTunes Browser window along the right side (It's a music icon on one of the buttons in a row). Drag from the iTunes Browser and drop it right dead center on the video clip where you want it to start. It should then take the form of a title box, just below the video clip. That box can then slide left and right to more closely match and sync with the video image.

  • How to add audio to iMovie on the iphone?

The speak recorder on the iphone is ok to record audio. But how do I get those recordings into imovie on iphone? Its the latest imovie (2.0?) on iOS7 on iphone 5.
    Thanks for any help
    Erland

Thanks for looking into this. I am probably unclear here...
What I hope to do is to get audio recording fra the that speach recorder app that comes with iOS. The recordings can only be exported through mail, messages and dropped with Airdrop.
Hmm maybe with itunes in some way.
I would like to use speach recorder and then import that audio into imovie, not the audio effects that are with imovie.

  • How to move events from iMovie 10 to iMovie 9.0.2

I haven't been having any luck using iMovie 10.  It keeps shutting my Mac down and rebooting it.  I thought adding more RAM would help and added another 8GB, but that hasn't fixed the issue.  I have now re-installed iMovie 9.0.2, but I have a project started in iMovie 10.  After the last reboot, I can find my events, but my project that was nearly finished seems to be gone.  So frustrating.  Can anyone tell me how to move my events from iMovie 10 to iMovie 9.0.2?
    Thank you.
    PegM
My OS is Mavericks 10.9.2 if that makes a difference.

I'm afraid that its not possible to transfer projects form iMovie 10 to iMovie 9.
Imovie 10 should not be behaving how you describe.  Are you short of disk space?  (You certainly have plenty of RAM.).
If not I would consider re-installing iMovie 10.
Another alternative would be to use Final Cut Pro.  You can easily transfer projects from Imovie 10 to FCP 10.1.  I have done this myself.  It is very similar to iMovie 10 but much more powerful and personally I have found it easier to use and more stable than iMovie 10.  Although it is not cheap, you can try it out free for one month.

  • How to move an uncompleted iMovie project from one hard drive to another?

I want to move an uncompleted iMovie project form one hard drive to another. What do I move to make sure that all of parts of the project: movies, photos, sound, are moved?
    Thanks, Bruce

    Hi,
You can deploy the ADF Project as an ADF Library Jar file and reuse the taskflow from that jar file in another BPM Application.

  • How to move events on iMovie 10.0.3 to external hard drive?

I recently just updated from iMovie '11 to the newest version 10.0.3. I still have a lot of old events I'd like to move to an external hard drive but can't seem to figure out how. I'm running low on disk space and need to get this resolved asap.

    Hello there, ssegy10.
The following link to the online iMovie Help menu provides the information on how to accomplish what you're asking:
    Work with multiple libraries
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov3fa25bae7
Copy or move projects, events, or clips between libraries or storage devices
Connect a storage device that contains the target library to your Mac, or copy the target library to your Mac.
Choose File > Open Library, and choose an option from the submenu. You can choose from recently opened libraries, locate an existing library on your Mac, or create a new library. The selected library is opened in the Libraries list, with the first event selected and its contents displayed in the browser.
In the Libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.
In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.Tip:  To select multiple clips or projects in the same library, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
    Do one of the following:
To move items between events or libraries: Drag the clip or project to another event or library.
To copy items between events or libraries: Option-drag the clip or project to another event or library by first starting to drag and then holding down the Option key as you drag.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • How to edit audio in imovie

First time using Imovie and for the most part I'm doing relatively well.  I need to know how to stop a rather long audio track at a specific point and begin another that's more appropriate for the video.

    never mind. i fixed it.

  • How to remove audio in iMovie

I've just started using this new version of iMovie. I did pretty well with the older version, but nothing I learned there seems to work with this one. I can't figure out how to manipulate the original audio. I want to only having it playing in parts and have music overlayed. If I can't do that, I would like to completely remove the recorded audio and just have music. Is there a simple way to do this?

Two quick Videos you should watch.
    1) This one from iMovie 08 covers the basics.
    2) this one shows the new features in iMovie 11. Choose the one that says All New Audio Editing.
There are two ways to have the audio muted in parts. 1) Select the frames you want to mute (by dragging) so that the yellow border is around them. Then right-click/Split Clip. Then set the Volume slider to zero., using the Audio Tab of the Clip Inspector.
    2) Use the rubber banding as shown in Video #2.

  • How to Extend Audio on iMovie 09

How do you extend audio out on iMovie 09? I am working on a music video and I would love to have the track laid out and just add on clips where I want them. All I get is the small green box that says the song name and doesn't even play the music unless you add a video, then it cuts off at the end of the video.
    HELP!!!

One way is to use the Beat Marker feature.
Put down the audio track and assign beat markers. Then add clips to the neat markers.

  • How to move DVD to iMovie?

How do i take a home movie DVD and put it into iMovie or iPhoto so that I can then put it in my Mobile Gallery or on my iWeb website?

// why not making use of the Search feature of this forum //
// following text is just copy/paste, no individual answer //
DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing... so, any conversion process will add a (dramatic) loss in picture quality.
for usage in iLife, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    VisualHub (23.32$)
Drop2DV (free, requires installation of ffmpeg parts, google for it...)
Toast 6/7/8/9 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
    old apps:
    Cinematize >60$
    Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in

  • How to optimize audio in Imovie w/GarageBand

Help. I've shot something with a Canon T2 and imported it into Imovie. The picture quality is great but the sound is average. I purchased an H1 Recorder/mic to use as a mic but still the sound is average. I understand that I could use garageband to easily optimize the sound but am unable to bring an imovie sound file into garage band. Is there some way of doing this that I'm not seeing. When I try to import into garageband, the video files are dimmed and unselectable.
Currently, I'm recording everything (sound and audio) with the camera and importing the whole thing into imovie. Should I make a seperate file with the H1 Handy Recorder and open that up in Garage Band then sync the optimized file with the Imovie File. If so, what sound file format would I need to use to be able to open something up in GarageBand.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Audio from iMovie 10.1 to garageband??

wanting to edit some sound from iMovie, so Just wondering if anyone knows how to get audio from iMovie 10.1 in to garage band at all? i have found numerous tips and videos from the previous versions but not 10.1?? can anyone help

Curious also is that in the new Garageband 10.0.1, the media broswer only shows the "old" iMovie library (from 9.0.9), you can though browse all movies in the movie folder, (so except the new iMovie 10 Library)
So either you share your movie with iTunes (that you can look up in the mediabrowser of GB) or export as an mp4 movie tot your movies folder, which you can approach as well via the media browser in GB 10.0.1
