How to move events on iMovie 10.0.3 to external hard drive?

I recently just updated from iMovie '11 to the newest version 10.0.3. I still have a lot of old events I'd like to move to an external hard drive but can't seem to figure out how. I'm running low on disk space and need to get this resolved asap.

Hello there, ssegy10.
The following link to the online iMovie Help menu provides the information on how to accomplish what you're asking:
Work with multiple libraries
http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov3fa25bae7
Copy or move projects, events, or clips between libraries or storage devices
Connect a storage device that contains the target library to your Mac, or copy the target library to your Mac.
Choose File > Open Library, and choose an option from the submenu. You can choose from recently opened libraries, locate an existing library on your Mac, or create a new library. The selected library is opened in the Libraries list, with the first event selected and its contents displayed in the browser.
In the Libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.
In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.Tip:  To select multiple clips or projects in the same library, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
Do one of the following:
To move items between events or libraries: Drag the clip or project to another event or library.
To copy items between events or libraries: Option-drag the clip or project to another event or library by first starting to drag and then holding down the Option key as you drag.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Pedro.

  • How do I import movie event to iMovie 9.0.9 from external hard drive back up copy

I was using an external hard drive as my primary location for iMovie events and projects when that hard drive crashed.  I was able to recover the data and save it to a new hard drive, but now iMovie 9.0.9 does not recognize the iMovie Events that were recovered and saved on the new hard drive (because iMovie didn't place them there in the first place).  The recovered iMovie Projects work fine, but when I put the iMovie events into a folder called "iMovie Events" on the external hard drive, iMovie doesn't recognize them.  In iMovie, under Events, I can see the name of the recovered iMovie Event, but when I click on it, it says no movie clips available.
I have a 2010 mac Mini with OS X 10.9., and haven't upgraded to iMovie 11 yet because when I tried, it mixed up the iMovie events and I couldn't see them all.
    I appreciate your help.

That's the way they appear.  In the <event name> folder, there are the clips and a few subfolders including Thumbnails and something else (I'm not in front of my mac right now).  One other thing: the projects that use these events work.  I can play the project, i just can't see the clips in the Events section.  Unfortunately I hadn't gotten around to creating projects from all of these events yet, so i only some of the events have corresponding projects.
When I drag the <event name> folder into the iMovie Events folder and then run iMovie, an event icon will appear for that event (in current year 2014, even though the event may be years old), but I can't play or see the clips.  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks again.

  • How do I change my imovie to upload from my external hard drive?

I recently moved all of my photo and movie files onto an external hard drive. I was able to make my iphoto read from my external hard drive but can not change my imovie to do the same... tips?

iMovie has only access to 'Mac'/hfs formatted drives.
in Finder, select the connected drive, hit cmd-i/right click, select Info and look what it says about format.
pretty sure, it says fat32 ...

Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion even though that has it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

How do I download and access music directly from an external hard drive through iTunes

    Hello Docwa
Check out the article below to move your iTunes Media folder to an external drive so that way you can have the media externally. If you have not added the media yet, go ahead and move the folder if you do not have enough room on your computer so you can import the music

  • HT1351 I have just reformatted my hard drive and re-installed iTunes; how do I connect back to my library on an external hard drive?

I have just refromatted my hard drive and reinstalled itunes; how do tie it back to my library on an external hard drive?

If the whole library was on the external drive then press and hold down shift as you start iTunes, then use the Choose option to reconnect to it.
If it was only the media folder, but you backed up the library folder then restore that to <User's Music> in your rebuilt machine and you're good to go.
If you forgot to backup the library folder, but you don't care about ratings, play counts, playlists etc. then shift-start-iTunes, Create a new empty library at the root of the external drive, e.g. at X:\iTunes, move the media folder inside that as X:\iTunes\iTunes Media, then use File > Add Folder to Library to import the media.
Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Move PART of an iTunes library to an external hard drive

So I just got a new external hard drive, and I need to free up some space on my internal hard drive. Naturally, I thought that iTunes would be a good place to start. I've read some tutorials on how to do this if I want to transfer my entire iTunes library - but I don't.
In having a laptop, there are many times when I'm off at some random location away from my stationary external HD, and so I would like to keep certain songs on my internal hard drive so that I could listen to those when I'm away from home.
My question then, is how can I transfer most of my songs to an external hard drive, maintain my ratings and play count, and still keep some of my songs on my internal hard drive? Thanks in advance for the help!

    Jason
The easiest way to do this is to copy your iTunes Folder to the external. Now you have two identical libraries.
From the laptop, delete the tracks that you don't want to keep on it.
Now you have two libraries: A full one on the HD and a smaller subset on the laptop,
To choose between them? hold down the option (or alt) key when launching iTunes and select 'Choose Library'.

  • How can i use the airport time capsule as a external hard drive?

how can i use the airport time capsule as a external hard drive?

Why do you recommend not place things like iTunes libraries or photo libraries on the drive? It was what I am looking for...
I suggest that you ask the experts over in the iPhoto Support Community about their opinions on placing an iPhoto or Aperture library on the Time Capsule....even if you plan to use a wired connection for your Mac and the Time Capsule.
But, if Terrence Devlin answers, be prepared for a lecture about why you should not ever do this.
If you place the iTunes library on the Time Capsule, be prepared for iTunes to give you messages about not being able to find the library.
In addtion, LaPastenague has the answer for you in a nutshell......corruption problems.
Bottom line....the Time Capsule is for your backups.....not "everyday" files and especially not libraries.

  • How do I restore iTunes library from Backup files on External Hard Drive?

How do I restore iTunes library from Backup files on External Hard Drive and keep the new iTunes library on the External Hard Drive. I have all the media and playlist and .xml .itl files, just want the iTunes to recognise the content.
I backedup my iTunes content by dragging to External Hard Drive. Formatted and reinstalled OS. My iTunes content is so large, that I wish for the Library and content to remain on the External Hard Drive. I have all the music files and playlists, I just cannot get the iTunes application to display all the content. Hoping to Not have to drag and drop all the content to be recopied into new iTunes organised files.
Troubleshooting this by researching other conversations on the web, I have come stuck for a solution. One Troubleshoot told me to hold down the Command key and then lauch iTunes and a dialogue box will appear to Choose a new library, however when I try this, no Dialogue box appear to give me the option!?

It sometimes has that funny switch symbol on it too.

How can I get Time Machine to back up an external hard drive (iPhotos) that is attached to airport extreme base station. Note: Time machine is usb to macbook pro and external drive with iphotos is usb to airport extreme base station. Help please. Thanks!

Once you have the drive connected to your Mac, click System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    Click Time Machine
    Click Options
Be default, the hard drive will be Excluded from backups. Click the drive to highlight it, then click the "-" (minus) button at the bottom of the list to remove the drive from Excluded items.
The drive will be backed up on the next Time Machine pass
Everything above assumes that the hard drive has been formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as Time Machine will only backup drives in that format.

Assuming that your library is presently on your laptop, you have to import the music from the external drive to the laptop. The location of of your iTunes Media folder is identified in iTunes>Preferences>Advanced.
