How To Move Fibre Card To New Mac?

I just moved the fibre card to another G5 Dual 2.0 and downloaded the driver from Apple, but I'm not getting any love (green lights) on the fibre card. Not sure where the original discs are, so I'm just winging it.
Any advice on how to mount this monster? (It's NOT a blank RAID, so formatting is not an option) Thanks.
-Alex

There is a fibre card utility from Apple that will report on the state of your fibre card and let you know if it's "working" from the computer's point of view.
If it's not in your Applications > Server folder it is here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/fibrechannelutility20.html
On a more basic level open Apple System Profiler or About This Mac > More Info... and you will be able to see the hardware report on your computer. There should be a Fibre Channel report on the list if your card is installed and SCSI Target devices on it if it's running.
If your card isn't installed correctly you'll get zero love from the RAID in terms of mounting or data.
If the card is up and running then the mounting should be automatic. Does it show up as a SCSI target device on your System Profiler report? What does Disk Utility show when you open it up?
Any chance you had LUN masking on? It seems to me LUN masking should move with the card because it is hardware addresses but I've never had to do it. Can you Admin in the RAID over ether and check the LUN masking status? Using fstab to control partitions and LUN to suppress slices is the only "software" filtering I know of that can alter what you see assuming the hardware is working.
Hope that helps,

  • How do I move CS4 onto my new Mac?

    Hi,
I have a student edition of CS4 on my Mac, I have just bought a new Mac and want to use it on there instead, how do I move it? or can I just re-use the initial install disc?
    Thanks

    Hi Steve,
My question dovetails onto the previous one. I am migrating to a new MacBook Pro laptop, and am wondering if I can migrate my CS4 applications, and THEN deactivate them from my old computer. I had to remove some files from the Library folder to get my CS4 apps (specifially InDesign and Illustrator) to print after I upgraded my old computer to Lion, and I'd rather not have to jump through those hoops again if I don't have to. Plus, I don't have install disks, as I downloaded CS4.
    Thanks so much!

  • How to sync contacts, music, and movies from iPhone to new mac and unsync from old PC?

Hi, I know this question has been asked a lot but for some reason I could not get a clear understanding of what everyone was talking about and my situation might be a tad different.
So I already had an iPhone that was synced to my dell PC. I just got a new macbook pro retina and now I'm trying to transfer my contacts, movies, and music to my mac from my iPhone. However I keep getting a message that says if I sync to this mac then all of my stuff will be deleted from my iPhone. (I am now aware that they mean only iTunes content, but those are still important to me). I still own my PC but there is no way I can connect my PC and Mac together. Is there a way possible that I could "unsync" my iPhone to my PC and sync it to the Mac without erasing the stuff from my iPhone? Are there other methods of syncing my iPhone to my new mac? My last question is that is it possible to transfer purchases from my mac to my iPhone even if it is or isn't synced to the PC or erased of content?
Hopefully this sounds coherent, and thank you all in advance for your help. I'm new to all of this and I really appreciate your time.

It is designed so syncing is one way only (with the exception of iTunes Store purchases) computer to phone.  You need to transfer the library from the old computer to the new one so the phone is syncing back to the same library it used to or else it will request you erase the phone.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
You can use  flash drive for copying, breaking it down into chunks if necessary but making sure they get re-assembled correctly again.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • How do I move iTunes to a new Mac without loosing my ratings and plays?

I don't have a new Mac yet, but before I buy one I'd like to know how to transfer my iTunes library.
I am really depending on my ratings and plays so I don't want to loose them.
So how should I do it? backup? home sharing?
And another question: I have my iTunes library on my external hd. Could I install the whole iTunes on the external hd and then use itunes on any Mac with the hd plugged in?

    paulkreuzer wrote:
so just to get it right: you mean copy the iTunes folder to new Mac INSTEAD of installing iTunes there?
iTunes will be installed on your new Mac. there will be an iTunes folder existing there but it will be devoid of content (just the default files).
by replacing this default iTunes folder with the one from your old Mac, you are copying the +*heart & soul+* of your library to the new machine: the all important *iTunes library file*.
the iTunes library file contains info such as playlists, playcounts, ratings, etc.

  • Captured QT on Kona Card. New Mac Pro Computer will not play the clip.

    Hello everyone.
I bought the new Mac Pro 2.26 & transferred my films to it.
I no longer have the Kona Card that I captured my footage on.
The old G5 would play them without the card.
This clip just plays Black, but the size of it, 5 gigs shows.
Error message: Does not support Codec?
How do I change this file into a different codec?
    Regards
    Bonnie

    Hello Shane
I upgraded to FCP 7 when I bought the New Intel.
(I did not want to upgrade because of this very reason, but I could not render or export my timeline on the old G5. The HD files were too much for the little G5.)
The Kona Capture was at 10 bit RGB.
The bizarre thing is, is that all of the other clips that were captured, play.
I thought maybe the file was corrupt, so I opened my back up external drive, & it is doing the same thing.
This is why everyone tells you not to upgrade when you are in the middle of a project!
If I have to, I will rent a desktop w/a Kona Card.
    Thank you for your help
    Regards
    Bonnie

  • HT5194 Move configurator to a new Mac HT5194 None of this seems true at all.

If you have a timemachine backup from one device it does not let you access anything in that backup on a different Mac. So how at all is possible to transfer anything using timemachine.

    Hey stllibrary,
Thanks for the question. To move files from your Time Machine backup to a new Mac, you'll want to utilize Migration Assistant:
How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889
(see article for full details and screenshots)
    1. If Migration Assistant isn't running on the target (new) Mac, open Migration Assistant (located in /Applications/Utilities/), select "From another Mac, PC, Time Machine backup, or other disk" then click Continue.
    2. Connect your external hard drive if necessary.
    3. Type in your admin password when prompted and click OK.
    4. When the target Mac asks you for a migration method, select "From a Time Machine backup or other disk", then click Continue.
    5. Select the Drive, Time Machine backup, or Time Capsule. If you select Time Capsule you will be prompted to enter the Time Capsule password. After entering the password, select the Time Machine backup.
    6. Close all other applications on the source Mac, then click Continue to start the migration options.
    7. The source Mac will ask you to select items to migrate.
    8. You can customize your selection by clicking to open the disclosure triangles.
    9. After you click Continue, the Migration Assistant will begin to transfer files to the target Mac. The amount of time that it takes for migration to complete depends on the amount of data being transferred and the speed of the network.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • How to restore iPhone to a new Mac

    Hello...
I have a new mac running OS X 10.7.2 Lion and iTunes 10.5. I have not synced my iPhone to it yet. How do i go about getting all my info off the phone and into the new mac. BTW...I have access to the old machine, but I want to start syncing it with the new Mac instead of the old one. The iPhone is a 3G running iOS 4.2. I also have backups of my iCal and Addressbook. I assume there is an iPhone backup on the old machine, can I just move the backup to the new machine and restore it from there? I'm a bit confused.

First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.

  • How to move an App from one mac to DPS App builder on another mac

When I try to download the Developer app, after adding new UDIDs to the provisioning certificate, I get an error stating the app was built on a different machine. Everything works great when completed from the original Mac that I did the build on. (this was created on a "freelance design" machine and now needs to move to the company machine. I have tried to delete the app and start over, howeve the "Delete" option is grayed out. Using the single edition app.

If you are a Creative Cloud subscriber, you would need to have InDesign Installed on the new Mac. Then you need to click on 'Create App' from Folio Builder Panel in InDesign on the new Mac. That will launch DPS App Builder and embedd the folio in your App. So bottomline is that you need to do this process on the new Mac.
If you however purchased DPS Single Edition ($395) you may export the Folio from Folio Producer and then import the folio in DPS App Builder and continue buliding the App.
I can delete the app for you, send me your DPS App Builder id and App name via Private Message.

  • How can I migrate data to new Mac Pro with only 1 monitor

I am ready to set up my new Mac Pro.  I know how to migrate my files from my G5 using Firewire and making the new computer a target disk.  My problem is, I have only 1 monitor.  Is there an easy way around this, OR of not, can I use my Macbook Pro just a monitor and if so how?

If you make the new computer a FireWire Hard drive, the only thing on its monitor will be the firewire symbol. You don't need a monitor to see that.
But if you did, you could start the new computer up first, look at the firewire symbol, get a warm fuzzy feeling, disconnect the  monitor and plug it into the old computer to make the transfers.

  • Itunes says my music files are 6gb, my user/itunes music folder says its 23gb. I am trying to move it from old/new mac with 8gb ipod

I am trying to move my sons  library to his new mac using his 8 gb i pod as a hard drive.....
itunes 9.0.1  says his music files is only  6gb.  But when I go to transfer his itunes folder it says his music folder is 23gb.  I know I can home share transfer but his wireless is down.  Either way I am wondering
    1)  why is Music folder so large compared to my music library?
2.) Can I simply move the 6gb of music and the playlist info etc....using his 8gb ipod?
3.) Can I delete his previous library files ?

No, I have the music I want to move from the laptop to the phone selected. Then I go under file, devices, and try to click sync but it is not available to click.

  • How to move files after installing new hard drive

I am considering the installation of a new 80 or 100 GB hard drive. I purchased the new iLife 06 program but I do not have enough space to install on my present 60 GB unit. I only have 3 GB available. I've read all the posts involving the possible brands, downloaded the instructions how to swap out the units. My question is how to backup and install my files and applications so I may reinstall onto the new drive. Can I just copy my hard drive volume onto my external Lacie storage unit and then drag the volume back to the new hard drive after booting off my OS disk? Any advice on how to move my apps and files? Do I need to purchase cloning software?

The easiest way is buy an external firewire enclosure and put your new drive in it. Then format your new drive. then use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy your internal drive onto your new drive. Then install your new drive and put your old one in the enclosure. You are now in business with an external backup on your old drive.
