  • How to move iPhoto Library from external drive to new mac?

I have exported a copy of my iPhoto Library from my old mac to an external hard drive. How can I import entire library into iPhoto of new mac? When I click Import to Library, I'm unable to highlight iPhoto Library file listed on my external hard drive in Finder. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Is the iPhoto library on the new computer empty? If it is, quit iPhoto and just drag the iPhoto library on the New Computer to the trash and drag the iPhoto library from the EHD to the pictures folder on the new computer - there is no importing involved - you NEVER want to import an iPhoto library into another iPhoto Library
If you want to run the new computer with the iPhoto library on the external drive simply launch i{Photo while depressing the option (alt) key and use the select library to point to the EHD

How do I go about moving my iTunes and all the music???
    Thanks much for the help

Follow the instructions in this article; they can be adjusted to operate on any hard or flash disk by skipping the ones which are specific to the iPod.

  • How to move ALL musical content from old PC to new Mac

Sorry if this has been asked a million times before, but since iTunes has been updated and processes get changed/revamped, etc., please let me know your opinion on this:
I am getting my first-ever Mac. I want to move my approximately 2,600 songs from my HP Windows 7 laptop to the new MacBook. These songs consist of content ripped from CDs, Amazon MP3 purchases, and iTunes purchases. Will authorizing the new Mac in iTunes and turning on Homeshare be the best way to transfer ALL music or would it be better to do that with an iPod? How can I be sure that all content, including non-iTunes purchases, is transferred? Thanks.

Your best bet is to use an external drive to transfer everything over.

  • How to Move Music Library from one external HD to another

I had about 60GB of music on an external hard drive, nicely organized and "linked to" from iTunes (just upgraded to version 5). I recently purchased a larger external hard drive and basically copied the contents of my older external drive to the new one, preserving all folder structures from the root of the drives down (but the name of the drive itself is different.) I was hoping I could just do a search/replace of the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file in my Music/iTunes folder, to replace the name of the old drive (volume) with the new one. I did, and iTunes launches fine, preserving my playlists, song ratings, etc... but whenever I try to play any of the songs, it says it can't find it (I can manually point iTunes to it, but I don't want to do that for 15,000 songs...) Strange thing, though, is that if I quit out of iTunes and re-open the Library XML file, all the paths have been reset to their original location!! What am I missing? Thanks in advance,
    Jesse

I just want to add that the iTunes folder (with the library xml file and such) is on my local hard drive, in the typical Music/iTunes location. I don't want to simply re-import the songs 'cuz I'd lose playlist contents and ratings, and I don't want to "consolidate" the library because I want to keep my music folders and filenames as I currently have them. Basically, I just want iTunes to realize the songs have simply changed location from one external drive to another... thanks again.

  • Is there a way to move my library from old ipod to new ipod if i do not have my old hard drive

I have an issue on my old ipod with the sound coming through headphones...after troubleshooting found something is wrong with my old ipod (from like 2006) and i just bought a brand new one and want to be able to move my songs from my old ipod to my new one in windows platform environment.  The issue is I don't have my original hard drive with the Itunes library on it on which I originally purchased my songs.  Is there a way at all to download my songs from my old ipod to my new computer's hard drive and then move them from that hard drive to the new ipod?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am a novice at this so please be user friendly and not a lot of computer jargon please if possible...if you can outline steps that would be great.
    Michelle

    Hello goldymich
You can only transfer items that you have purchased from the iTunes Store. The article below will give the steps on how to do that.

How can I move my itunes library(including songs from CDs) from an old computer to a new computer?  I can only seem to find instructions to move purchases, but not all the songs I downloaded from CDs.

  • Can't transfer music library from old desktop to new laptop computer

I am hoping this is an easy fix, but I have I-Tunes and all my music originally loaded on my desktop.
I just rcvd a new laptop and loaded I-Tunes onto it, then plugged in my I-Pod and it won't allow me to sync on both computers are the same time
"This I-pod is synched with another I-Tunes library. I-pod can only be synched with one librart at a time"
and it wants me to wipe out the all my music and synch with the new computer
    1) Can I have the same music on both computers and connect my I-pod?
    2) How can I just dump all my music on the I-pod to my laptop w/o a external drive or something like that??? Can I use the i-pod to do this?
    Thanks

  • How to move iPhoto Library from  MacBookPro (Leopard) to new iMac (Mavericks)

    Hi,
I've just purchased a new iMac and want to move my iPhoto Library from my older (2008) MacbookPro. Have looked it up and tried to do so, by copying the iPhotoLibrary file from the old machine to the new, and starting iPhoto with option key down & pointing to the new library. When that didnt work, I tried booting with the option & command down, and attempted to Repair, and then to Rebuild the Library.
In all cases, iPhoto opens, but doesnt see any photos in the iPhoto Library. The iPhoto Library works fine on the old macbook pro.
    What shall I do?
    Thanks
    Tom

Ok I know it's been awhile but I finally was able to try your suggestion.
I downloaded iPhoto Library Manager on my macbook pro, connected my macbook pro to my new iMac and did a Rebuild Library from the existing library on the macbook pro, setting it up to save to my new iMac.
It began to do the rebuild (though there were many "unreadable files") and went through the operation, which looked like it was going to take several hours to complete.
But at a certain point (after an hour or so), the macbook pro complained that I dont have enough space on my startup disk!!
So I can only guess that the rebuild must have done something to the original iPhoto Library after all (even though the settings on my iPhoto are to NOT  copy files to Library on import if that matters...). The Library is 32 Gb though I dont remember what it's size was before...
Sure enough, my starup Macintosh HD now has only 1GB space on it. Yikes!
    I stopped the rebuild process.
Not sure if I need to now just trash the original library to make space on my HD (of course I can save it elsewhere in case its useful), but since the rebuild didnt even get halfway through its process, the rebult library on the new iMac isnt going to do me any good. Maybe I've just lost all the years of work I've done organizing my library. Maybe I just need to start over with new kind of software (or using iPhoto start again from scratch on the new iMac).
What do you think happened? I thought the rebuild wouldnt affect the original library.

  • Transferring library from old PC to new MAC...problems

Hi, this is my first post as I am new to mac. I am trying to transfer my itunes library from my PC to my new mac, and I followed the instructions posted here to use your ipod to transfer music from one computer to another. At the very last step it says to connect ipod and it wants to sync it to an empty library on my new computer. If I copied the itunes folder from my old computer to my ipod, and then to my new computer into my Music folder, how to I get that into my itunes library on my new computer?
Thanks so much for any help to clarify this!
    Tonya

Click here, follow the instructions, and point iTunes to the location of the library you moved.
