How to move music to library with home sharing

How do I move my music from my library under Home Sharing to my regular library?  I don't see an import button or a way I can click and drag....thanks!

try this:
use e.g. Subler to add an explicit tag to files, then adjust the parental control preference pane accordingly

I've tried activating and deactivating home sharing multiple times, any other reason why this is happening?
    Thanks

A couple of other things you might like to try :-
    - Determine whether you are able to access the internet from anywhere else on your new PC (e.g. do Windows updates download ?  Can you access the Windows 8 store ? )   If the answer is no, then your problem doesn't lie with IE but with the actual wireless connection.  If the answer is yes, then continue as below.
    - Run IE from the desktop instead of the Start screen - probably won't make any difference, but worth a try.
    - Download a decent browser like Firefox or Chrome and try that - this will show whether the problem lies just with IE or not
    - As a general rule, don't do anything that PC World tell you to do, lol !
As gg30340 says, this does sound very much like it MAY be a problem with firewall settings - if you're running Norton Antivirus then I believe that will be providing the firewall service, rather than the inbuilt Windows firewall.
One thing you don't need to worry about - Windows 8 is a perfectly good OS and works just as well as Windows 7 did.  I'm using it now !

  • How can I distinguish multiple computers with home sharing?

I have 2 computers which have Home Sharing turned on. When I use Apple TV it shows both computers and can play videos from both without any problems.
What I cannot work out is how to change the names of the shares. They both have the same name which appears to be determined by the first name from my itunes account which is sharing files rather than using the name of the library on the computer. So, both computers look identical. I cannot tell which one I am choosing from the list.
Since most of my videos are on an external hard drive which will only be connected to one at a time, I can only tell if I have selected the correct one when the video plays or shows an error.
Why does Home Sharing not care what I want to name my library or about the name of the sharing computer? Have I missed something? I know how to change the name of my "shared library" but it is irrelevant to what Apple TV can see.
It seems pointless to show the name of a shared library if that name is determined by the sharing account when Apple TV can only use one account at a time. Every computer it will allow will be called the same thing.
If it's relevant, my sharing computers are using Mac OSX 10.7 and Windows 7.

When I change it to say Matt's library from administrators library, the name changes on my apple tv. I'm not sure about 2 computers though. I would think changing the library name under preferences would work.

  • Shared Library with Home Sharing off??

I am using itunes with 2 different macs (most recent mac pro and most recent MBP). My MBP has the library I am sharing, which I use to play it on my Mac Pro.
So when I have home sharing on, I see the little house icon, with my library from my laptop in the shared area of the sidebar. But then there is the library again with a different icon that is there even if home sharing is off.
Here is what it looks like: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1885149/Screen%20shot%202010-09-07%20at%205.08.44%20PM.p ng
What is the icon and why can I access the library with homesharing off?
    Thanks!

the icon indicates that iTunes sees another library on your network but home sharing is not set uo.
and why can I access the library with homesharing off?
you should be able to see the contents of the other library but you shouldn't be able to transfer content.

  • How to move music to Library

I have a music library and various songs etc. scattered in places among drives - I also note that some songs are noted as not in the Music Library [they should be since I keep all songs there, not sure where they went] - I'd like to gather up all my music [easy enough to do in Spotlight] and MOVE all the music to my iTunes Library -- not copy it!!!  I don't want other copies, I want ONE set of music moved into my Library and then I can clean it out of dupes or items that dont' play.
How do I MOVE and not copy music into my library.

When the media folder (iTunes Music or iTunes Media) is inside the library folder (iTune) the library should be portable and can be moved to a new path, drive or computer and be able to access all the tracks.
If you've split the libray by moving the media folder out to an external drive, leaving the library on C:, then it should just be a matter of copying the library out to the external, then opening & closing it before moving systems.
Let's assume your current libray folder is at C:\...\My Music\iTunes and your media folder is at X:\...\iTunes Media. Where X is your external drive letter.
    1. Copy the content of C:\...\My Music\iTunes into the parent of X:\...\iTunes Media. (This could be X:\ or whichever folder iTunes Media is a subfolder of)
    2. Click the icon to launch iTunes and immediately press and hold the shift key until asked to create or choose a library
    3. Choose the library file in the parent folder of X:\...\iTunes Media
    4. iTunes may spend some time "Updating the library", but when it's done it should all work
    5. If the "parent" folder is not called iTunes then your iTunes window might have an odd name, e.g. X:\ - In this case create a new folder at X:\iTunes and, with iTunes closed, move the library files, album artwork and iTunes Media folders into X:\iTunes and repeat the shift-start process.
    6. Safely disconned your external & test it on your new machine.
If at any stage the library doesn't work simply use shift-start iTunes to open an earlier copy of the library in one of the older locations.

  • Is there any way to hide certain artists/albums in my iTunes library from Home Sharing?

Is there any way I can hide some of my music from other people, like my sister, while they are accessing my iTunes library with Home Sharing?
I have a few personal recordings that I don't want anyone but me to have access to.
Is deleting them from my library the only option?

It's not an ideal solution ... but have you considered creating a second library (called, say, "Private Library") containing just the personal recordings?
To create the private library, hold down the shift key while launching iTunes. Click "Create Library" in the dialog that comes up.
Once you've created and opened the "Private library", don't activate home sharing for it. Now go "Edit > Preferences". In the "Advanced" tab, select "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library", as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click OK.
Now add the personal recordings to the Private Library.
To get back to your original library, quit iTunes. Hold down the Shift key while launching iTunes ... but this time click the "Choose library" button. Browse to the iTunes library file for your original library and doubleclick that. You should now be seeing your original library.
Delete the personal items from your original library.
Now, in order to see those recordings in iTunes, all you have to do is do a "Choose library" when launching iTunes, and open Private library. Because Home sharing isn't activated for Private library, your sister won't be able to access those recordings. (She won't be able to access your original library either, though, when you have Private library running.)

Will my whole itunes library be transferred to my new computer with home sharing,in other words will I be able to use bothe computers at the same time ? And will I have two copies of my all my playlists?

    Hi there J1750oe,
You may find the information in the article below helpful.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
    Transferring playlists
If you want not only your content but also your playlists to exist on your new computer, you will want to transfer a copy of all your playlists from your old computer. To do this, choose File > Library > Export Library on your old computer. Save the XML file that is created to your desktop.
Send the playlists file to yourself as an e-mail attachment, use an external drive, or use file sharing to move the playlists file to your new computer. Once the file is on your new computer, open iTunes and choose File > Library > Import Playlist. The import process will remove any items from the playlists that you didn't share via Home Sharing.

  • How to add my library to home sharing

How do I add more music or my entire library to home sharing?

Enable home sharing in iTunes preferences and make sure the systems you want to home share with have all been linked to your Apple ID you use for the iTunes store. Without authenticating the systems, they don't see each other.
Even though I shared a library in the past between macs, I had to turn on the itunes store, sign in with my Apple ID, then removed the store again from my host system that I dedicate to having all the music ... in order for its music to show up on iOS devices via Home Sharing.
Once they're linked they should see the shared library on the host iTunes system. Any additional music etc you add will be shared as well, depending on your home sharing preferences.

  • How to move music to correct user

One child downloaded Dad's CD's into child's user. Child later received his own mini. Have a total of 5 users and 3 have ipods so far.
Is it advisable to have separate libraries or to share music, or to create different playlists?
Advise appreciated in advance - am mom with no ipod whom everyone looks to to solve issue!

    Hello,
I've gone over this page several times - It doesn't
indicate how to move music to another user. For
instance, would I copy the itunes folder to the
rightful user, or would I click File and Add a Folder
    to the rightful user?
    THANKS!
Doesn't really make any difference. If the user has access to the files where they are, then you can just add them to iTunes. If not, you can copy them to that user or give him access.
Simplest way is to just put all the files in one location on the computer where everybody will have access to them. Saves space and such. Then change each user's iTunes "Library Location" so that when they rip CD's, the music is put in that single location.
Every user has his own "library", but the library is more like a link to the files, not the files themselves. Follow me?

    Hi adtsalmon,
You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
Here's the link to the Movie Rentals FAQs site FYI:

    Hope this helps!
