How to move or copy a database to new server

Greetings All,
Oracle Enterprise 11g r2, on a Windows2008 platform.
I would appreciate some advice regarding moving/copying a database to a new server. Some of the information below may not be pertinent to my goal. Please be patient as I am a newbie.
I have installed oracle and created a database (prod03) on the new/target server. I created the same tablespaces (and datafiles/names) as are on the existing/source server (prod01), except that on the new/target server (prod03) there is 1 more data file for the USERS tablespace than there is on the existing/source server (prod01).
My initial thought was to perform a expdp full=y.
The database contains 220 schemas, when I performed an expdp full=y estimate only it indicated 220Gb. I think this would take much more time to export and then import than what I hope to be able to do below.
I would like to be able copy the datafiles from the source server prod01 server over to the target server prod03, some names/locations will change.
One scenario I found (http://www.dba-oracle.com/oracle_tips_db_copy.htm) was to backup the control file to trace on the old/source server (prod01). Copy everything to the new/target server. Tweak the file that creates the new control file.
Step 4 of the above mentioned link says to change
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "PROD01" NORESETLOGS to
CREATE CONTROLFILE SET DATABASE "PROD03" RESETLOGS
Notice the change from REUSE to SET. I am not sure if this is right for my situation.
Could I issue a backup control file to trace on the target server (prod03), add the reference to the additional datafile. Copy over all of the datafiles for all of the tablespaces (users,system/sysaux/undotbs1,temp),
Delete the existing control file, and generate the new control file.
Then perhaps issue a startup resetlogs or startup recover?
Thanks for your time,
Bob

So unless someone provides me with an rman script I can't use rman.google is your friend
Simply telling someone to get the experience dose not help. So your post is useless to me.I suppose you do not have experience with "old-school" manual cloning as well.
Import of entire 200GB DB with datapump or imp will also require some experience otherwise it will be a long-long exercise.
So, basically, any advise may be useless to you, because of your "the fact is I don't have the experience. Nor do I have the time to obtain the experience."

  • MOVE REPLICATION DATABASE TO NEW SERVER

WE HAVE A PRODUCTION DATABASE THAT WORK'S AS REPLICATION FROM 9 DATABASES, WE ARE GOING TO MOVE DATABASE TO NEW SERVER.
AS DATABASE IS PRODUCTION, WE CAN NOT STOP SERVICES. WE THINK TO CREATE A NEW DATABASE ON NEW SERVER, IMPORT DATA FROM PROD. DATABASE. SIZE APROX 100GB.
    QUESTION:
I NEED TO KNOW HOW I CAN STOP SERVICES SHORT TIME. TO CHANGE TO SNEW SERVER.
    THANKS FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS

    Здравствуте Ivan.
Before i would do anything like this i would make sure that i have a good valid backup (just in case!).
I would check all the applications that are currently conencting to your ORacle and make sure they are all conneting 'by name' not the IP. Or and then i would check DNS server (make sure nslookup is working) to makesure that everything resolves correctly after the moving DB to another machine.
Then check that the oracle_home etc are in the same directory and check that all paths etc in the configurations are the same.
    Hope this helps

  • How to move my iPhoto library to a new iMAC?

how to move my iPhoto library to a new iMAC?

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Move Owb database to new server

    Hi,
We are going to move our Owb (9.2.0.2.8) database to a new server. The nodename isn't going to change only the ip-address will change. The OS will be the same.
    The steps will be:
    1) install Owb on new server
    2) copy database to new server
Is there some other step we'll need to take?
    regards,
    Ivan

  • IPhoto 9.6: How to move your iPhoto library to a new location?

    Hello,
How do I move my iPhoto libraries from my system disk to a data only disk in iPhoto 9.6?
I followed the instructions on this support website titled " iPhoto 9.5: How to move your iPhoto library to a new location."
However, this only appears to have copied the libraries, not move them.
According to what I see in Finder, I now have the same library on two different disks, but that was not my intention.
    Thank you

So, delete the one from the unwanted location.
When you move data across volumes by default it is copied to the new location, afterwards you delete it from the previous location. It's a sensible protection against dataloss of anything goes wrong with the copy.

  • How to move PDF file from Spool to Application Server?

How to move PDF file from Spool to Application Server?
Cannot use RSTXPDFT4 because that converts OTF to PDF and the file is already PDF.
RSTXPDFT5 doesn't work. It picks the file up and assigns it a 'text' type and outputs a 1 line txt (1kb in size) on the server with the spool number in it!
The program which outputs the file to the spool, in the first place, uses adobe forms and outputs to a printer of type PDF.

  • Migrate Mirror Database to New Server

    Hi,
I need to migrate my SQL server Mirror Database to
a new server. my current setup is as below
    1. server A principal (192.168.1.100)
    2. server B Mirror     (192.168.1.200)
now i have a new server (Server C) to replace server B as below
    1. server A principal (192.168.1.100)
    2. server C Mirror     (192.168.1.300)
my question is how to migrate mirror db to new server without any affect or downtime on principal server, please share idea/experience for above.
    note: SQL SERVER 2008R2 EE(64BIT), Win2008R2 EE 64bit.
    Regard
    Faisal Wahid

    Thanks for your quick response.
Is it possible something like in oracle (pardon as i am oracle DBA not sql server guy),
(Oracle Steps to migrate standby(mirror) db to new server)
    1. Pause replication on primary(principal)
    2. Move standby(mirror) database files to new server(using copy/rman/etc).
    3. Update connection information (TNS in oracle) on primary(principal) to point new server.
    4. Start replication on primary(principal).
the above steps will simply migrate the standby(mirror) database to new server,
can we do something like above in sql server?

  • Essbase Copy of Users to new Server

    hi,
    I appreciate any help
How can I copy my existing Essbase Users (in Shared Service Mode) to another server
    Im using Hyperion 11.1.1.3 version
    thanks

I'm not too sure about the "What version will run on what platform", somebody else can chime in on that.
    As for transferring the applications...
If you don't have a recent backup of the entire App/DB folders, take one before starting
    1. Log out users, and keep them out (this will help them not lose any data changes they may make during the process)
    2. Export level 0 data (or All data if the apps are small enough) from old server.
    3. If you use partitions, export the partitions to .xml files in EAS.
    4. Create applications/databases on new server with the same name(s) in EAS.
    5. In EAS, open outline of old app/db and "Save As" into new app/db.
    6. At a file level, copy all report scripts (.rep), load rules (.rul) and calc scripts (.csc) from old app/db folder to new app/db folder.
    7. Import the data into new application using the export taken in step 2. If you exported level 0, you need to run rollup scripts.
    8. If you exported partitions, import them to new application(s).
    Validate.

BTW, this assumes straight Essbase apps, Planning applications would be different.

  • SBS2008: Move email from Exchange 2007 to new server with Exchange 2013

We have an old server (SBS2008) and plan to buy a new server with (Server 2012). I need to move all the exchange emails, contacts & calendars to the new server. We will no longer use the old server.
Is there a document or migration tool that will help me understand how to move this data form the old exchange server to the new one?
    Old Server:
    SBS2008 running Exchange 2007
    New Server:
    Server 2012
    Exchange 2013
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi Dave,
It can be done, and as Larry suggested you will consider two Server 2012 installs in order to achieve an environment that looks like your current SBS roles; Exchange 2013 on an Active Directory controller isn't a good long-term solution (SBS did this for
    you in the past).
For your size operation, a virtual server host, with a Windows Server 2012 license, and two virtual machines would probably be a suitable design model.  In this manner, you have Server 2012 license that permits 1 +2 licenses (one host for virtualization,
up to 2 Virtual Machines on same host).
There's no migration tool. That comes with experience and usually trial and error. You earn the skills in this migration path, and for the average SBS support person you should plan on spending 3x (or more) your efforts estimate in hours planning your migration.
You can find a recommended migration path at this link to give you an idea of the steps, but its not exactly point by point going to cover you off for an sbs2008 to server 2012 w/exchange 2013 migration.  But the high points are in here. If it looks
like something you would be comfortable with then you should research more.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/infratalks/archive/2012/09/07/transition-from-small-business-server-to-standard-windows-server.aspx
Specific around integrating Exchange 2013 into an Exchange 2007 environment, guidance for that can be found here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898582(v=exchg.150).aspx
If that looks like something beyond your comfort level, then you might consider building a new 2012 server with Exchange 2013 environment out as new, manually export your exchange 2007 mailbox contents (to PST) and then import them into the new mail server,
and migrate your workstations out of old domain into new domain.  Whether this is more or less work at your workstation count is dependent upon a lot of variables.
If you have more questions about the process, update the thread and we'll try to assist.
Hopefully this info answered your original question.

  • Recovering andrestoring of database in new server after current server fail

    Hi,
If we have a disaster ,where the Database server has gone and we can not use it again.
    1) We do not have dataguard.
    2) We have rman backup file of 2 days before (Full database backup). Rman backup with nocatalogue
    3) Flashback log files of 2 days back
    3) Archive log till yesterday
    4) Export file of morning.
Can we be able to restore and recover our database in new server
    if yes then how.
Because RMAN Backup has its DBID and the new Oracle software which i install on new server will be installed with new ID.
Please help me understanding this thing (About target database)
    Regards

First of all, you should install the software on the server only, you should NOT create a database.
As you can restore a database to a new host (and this is documented), you won't have any problems. That is, if you don't create a database during installation, and read up on recovery.
I wonder: why do all those anonymous users always can't be bothered to read the documentation, and ask others to paraphrase it for free?

  • How Can I Copy an database from one server to another ?

    Hi All,
I need to copy an existing database from one server to another server. I want to maintain all the settings from the source database.
I´m not used to Oracle database and i´d be glad for any help.
How can I do this ? Do I need to backup and restore in the other server ? Do I need to copy files from one server to another ?
Any help will be really appreciated.
    Carlos.

I think a simpler approach, other than using RMAN, is to do a database export from the source and then import them into the target database. But you will need to do some ground work on the target, i.e, create database, tablespaces, and schemas (with their name the same as those in the source database.)
