Thank you,
-peteYou can change the location of the weblogic.log file by setting weblogic.system.logFile
to be wherever you want is to go.
ex. weblogic.system.logFile=/var/logs/weblogic.log
Hope it helps

  • Redirecting Weblogic Logs to /var/log/messages

    Hi all,
I've seen a few threads on here regarding this but they're all for older WLS versions.  I'm trying to get my server messages into /var/log/messages.
I've seen and read a few posts about this and using log4j.  I've added the necessary jars to the domain/lib folder and created a log4j.properties file and its the latter part I think is the issue....
I've tried adding it to the setDomain.sh CLASSPATH and the also to the servers classpath in the WLS Console, however I can't see any record of it getting picked up in the logs.
The server is set to log4j and I've confirmed this using WLST.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Weblogic is version 11.1.1.7
    Thanks
    Dave

    There could be two reasons:
    1. You have to exit GGSCI and restart again for GLOBALS changes to take effect, which you may not have done.
    2. you might still be using SYSLOG in manager parameter file which overrides the GLOBALS setting as per the below explaination from Oracle.
"You can use SYSLOG as a GLOBALS or Manager parameter, or both. When present in the GLOBALS parameter file, it controls message filtering for all of the Oracle GoldenGate processes on the system. When present in the Manager parameter file, it controls message filtering only for the Manager process. If used in both the GLOBALS and Manager parameter files, the Manager setting overrides the GLOBALS setting for the Manager process."

  • GDM no logging to /var/log complains

I have a simple warning coming up:
gdm-binary[pidnum]: WARNING: gdn_config_parse: Logdir /var/log/gdm does not exist or isn't a directory. Using ServAuthDir /var/lib/gdm
Now if I create that directory and restart gdm everyone is happy. But since I use tmpfs to mount /var/log - Its a netbook, I dont want to log the drive to death ;-) it complains everytime it boots. I wouldnt mind if it went ahead and created its logdir but for some reason it doesnt.
Is there anyway to stop gdm from even writing logs? syslog isnt running as a demon on the box.
    Thanks,

I am using the innitab method
    the line is :
    x:5:respawn:/usr/sbin/gdm -nodaemon
I could dump all output to /dev/null but thats ugly. I'd rather get rid of the loggin entirely

  • How to check my HDD state (apps, logs)?

Hi. My Arch linux "server" is working fine for ~4 years on a simple desktop box. Lately there were no problems with it at all. And i never worried about the hardware state. But now i have to fill out a form once per week about every server's health state. There is no problem with winbox But with linux I'm a bit lost. There is no graphical environment. So i can only use cmd tools, also i can get logs via ssh and open them in my text editor. I know there are such tools like fsck (i use ext3 file system). But to use them my partitions should be unmounted. I dont want to stop or reboot my server, so maybe there is some other way to check this while server is running? Probably not. Then the second question would be what logs should i check and what errors should i worry about. I mean, i can open all these logs in /var/log and i can see a lot of information here, but i just dont know what to look for. What are the common I/O errors showing that something is wrong with my hard disk or file system? Where does fsck save its results?
    Thanks

Well, I would say that if any error is really a concern to the system then it will make sure that you pay attention to it because something will stop working
You said it yourself, the box has been running fine for 4 years. If anything is to break down then there is nothing you can do I guess. Like Procyon said the hard disk's smart is almost a placebo, it will tell you about the really serious errors, like not being able to read or write but your programs will start complaining about that too as soon as it happens (keep and eye on the reallocated sector count value, if it is not zero and if it's increasing change the hd asap).

  • Why is /var/log/boot empty

I have several Arch boxes and all but one logs to /var/log/boot which puzzles me.  What would be a cause of a zero-byte /var/log/boot?

    Sure do

    bootlogd -p /run/bootlogd.pid

  • [Solved] X logging to slim.log

I went to bed after a night of playing Minecraft (using the AUR package) on the reddit minecraft server and awake to find that my root (/) partition was basically full. I went digging around and found that my /var/log/slim.log was 9.4G and when I opened it, it was full of Minecraft server logs. Mostly errors saying "Attempted to place a tile entity where there was no entity tile!" (common minecraft errors). I emptied the file, but I'm still oblivious as to why there were minecraft logs in the slim.log file. I'm posting this just to see if any other Minecraft players that use slim could see if they also have their logs there.
edit: Now there is also Mumble (the VoIP software) logs in slim.log. This is really freaking me out that multiple applications are being logged to slim's logfile.
edit: Okay, MANY different applications are now logging to slim.log. I think I'll try a reboot. Moderators, please move this to the correct subforum.

Do you have an .xsession_errors file in your home directory?
I think with slim all xsession related messages are logged in /var/log/slim.log instead.
So that would include most applications that you usually run in xorg.
If that's a problem look up the configuration for slim. there is a logfile parameter.

  • Move /var/log to HDD from SSD

    Hi guys
I just installed arch for the first time and made the mistake of having /var/log on my SSD. How do I "move" it to my HDD? Someone on #archlinux told me to symlink it but I don't know how to do that in a way so the logs get written directly to the HDD but not the SSD.
    Any ideas?

I didn't much care when I set this box up about /var being on my SSD, but now I've been wondering. So, having had experience with moving filesystems in the past (/usr, /tmp, ...) on running machines I figured /var wouldn't be much problem. Here is what I did:
First, I dual boot and the 2 HDD's are setup in RAID0 and are for local misc. storage so it was setup in only 2 partitions, 1 1GB one for Linux swap, and 1 massive partition for everything else. That big partition is for my misc. Windows stuff, so it's NTFS and unusable for the purpose at hand. I simply used GParted to slice off a 4GB piece at the end of the drive. This is what I will be using for /var.
I then made a directory under / named 'var.tmp' (ie: /var.tmp). This I used for a temporary mount point for my new /var partition. I also edited my /etc/fstab to add in the new partition and mount point, ie: /dev/mapper/pdc_bggaahdef3 /var ext4 defaults,user_xattr,noatime 0 1
From here I mounted the new partition on /var.tmp and ran the following command chain:
    cp -av /var/* /var.tmp && umount /dev/mapper/pdc_bggaahdef3 && mv /var /var.old && mkdir /var && mount /var
So as fast as possible I'm copying the current contents of /var onto the new drive (using the archive flag which retains all permissions, symlinks, etc), unmounting that new drive (for later remounting), moving the current /var to /var.old (in case something bad happens or gets missed I can revert back), and finally re-making the /var directory and mounting the new drive.
I did restart a few services just in case as I don't want to reboot at the moment, and confirmed via /var/run and /var/run/daemons that processes are still keeping track of themselves, and also /var/log is logging current events. The system seems happy, but any quirks encounted should be fixable by a reboot so everything can properly refresh.
If you already have a mount on a HDD that you're using under Linux, instead of making a dedicated partition just for /var as I did, you could (as suggested) use the symlink method. This is basically just mv'ing /var to that partition and then ln -s /new/location/of/var /var
    Hope this helps!

  • How to configure weblogic log file?

    HI
How do i configure Weblogic server log file to log weblogic related information as well as my application?
I need to maintain one log file for weblogic and my application.

  • Move /tmp and /var/log off SSD and on to HDD

    Hi guys,
I would like to move the above filesystems off my SSD boot drive and on to my HDD in order to reduce numerous small write/erase cycles.
I'm a unix dummy, so if someone can help me out with this, that would be great.
I found a link via google for using a RAM disk, but I do not want to go that route... and also didn't really get what they were doing enough to modify it to work the way I'd like.
    Thanks for any help.
    10.6.7.... Lion next month

I'm not so sure. MLC flash only has 3000 estimated erase cycles. And even a small file like a 20kb log file, if it needs to be erased, will be erased in 512KB chunks. So lots of small writes to the drive will do two things:
    1. With wear leveling, every time that 20kb file is updated or rotated, it'll be written to an unused or least used Flash cell.
    2. Eventually the original location and the "Wear leveled" cells are going to be needed as so 512KB of cells will needlessly be erased for the sake of 20KB.
/tmp isn't so bad, most of my data in there hasn't been hit in a few days.
But the things in /var/log get hit many times a day. Thats a lot of writes.
To be honest, I don't even need logging. I don't recall the last time I read a log! If there were a way to disable logging entirely during boot, I'd even do that.

  • Files in /var/log

I was looking through my /var/log directory on my PB G4 running OS X 10.4.4 recently and noticed several compressed files. I have a few questions:
    1. How come there are so many compressed files?

    3. Is there a way to prevent so many from building up in this directory?

    Hi Mike,
There is no need to worry about their growing. In fact, that's why they are there. They are the results of log rotation by the periodic scripts. Notice that many logs start with the same name, such as ftp.log, ftp.log.1.gz, ftp.log.2.gz, ftp.log3.gz, and ftp.log.4.gz. When you first installed the OS, there was only one, ftp.log. The next time the 500.weekly script runs, it appends a one, '1', to the filename, gzips the file and creates a new ftp.log. A week later, the next time the 500.weekly script runs, it moves ftp.log.1.gz to ftp.log.2.gz, appends a 1 to the new ftp.log, gzips the file and creates a new ftp.log. This process repeats until the ftp.log.4.gz file is created. A week after that, the ftp.log.4.gz is deleted and the former ftp.log.3.gz takes it place.
Thus, every week each file's number increases until it's 4 weeks old and then it's deleted. The total number of files doesn't increase and, modulo variations in activity, the total size of the collection remains roughly constant. Older records are kept in as compact a form as possible and really old records are removed to make way for new ones.
Therefore, your goal of limiting the size of the log files is implemented for you in a more efficient manner than you might have imagined. However, since you don't use the old ones, you could delete them if you're really hard up for space. Oh, one more thing -- more active log files, like system.log, are rotated daily and a week's worth of them are maintained.
    Gary

  • Var/log/mail.log file empty

My var/log/mail.log isn't logging anything, the file seems to empty since 4th March 2010 3:15 AM
Have tried the below mentioned troubleshooting steps, but no luck though
    1. Stopped and restarted mail service
    2. Repaired disk permissions through disk utility application
    3. Repaired permissions through terminal diskutil
    4. Restarted daemons as suggested in this forum http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2088823&tstart=60
    5. Changed permissions as suggested on this forum http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-13985.html
    Any help please!!!

Change the archive log to 3 days. Make sure all three log levels are set to information. Restart mail and see if any thing appears in the logs.
Also how are you viewing the logs - using SA or Console?
    Thanks,
    Henry

  • Errors in /var/log/alf.log?

When I look in /var/log/alf.log all I see is entries like this:
    SecCodeCreateWithPID error:: No such process
    What does it mean?
socketfilterfw shows up in the Activity Monitor, so it appears that Apple's application firewall is not completely dead. How would I best test whether it is functioning properly?

    1) lxdm is in /usr/sbin
    [dean@PsyMadness ~]$ which lxdm
    /usr/sbin/lxdm
    2) AFAIK lxdm does not use .xinitrc
edit: Maybe you are trying to run /usr/bin/lxdm (which doesn't exist) in inittab and the correct one in DAEMONS in rc.conf

  • Why does the directory ~/var/log keep appearing?

It doesn't matter how many times I delete it, every few hours the blank directory ~/var/log gets created on my computer.
I think it may have something to do with my Brother HL2170W printer, which is connected to my wifi network. But that's just from the fruitless googling on this topic I've already done.
Does anyone know why a blank ~/var/log directory would persistently appear?
    Thank you in advance.

~var/log/ is a directory that holds log files. If it actually has a ~ in the name, some software is trying to write to the hidden directory, but has been miss-configured and is creating the directory you see instead of writing to /Users/username/var/log. ~/ is short for your home folder, but the program is actually writing that as part of the path name instead of being a path.
