How to move Win 7 to external drive?

I rarely use Win 7 on my G575 4383. I use Linux on an external USB HDD. I would like to put the Win 7 on an external HDD or physically move the existing drive. (When I moved the existing HDD, Win 7 won't boot? It will only boot from the internal slot.) Then I could put Linux on the internal drive. (I don't want to dual boot them on the same drive.) How do I move Win 7?

If its external USB drive try this tutorial http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/win7onusb

  • How to move some photos to external drive?

I have the majority of my photos located on an external drive. Recently after upgrading to PSE 11 I noticed that when I import photos from my sd card that they are located on my c:\ drive.
    1) How do I safely move the files located on c:\ to my external drive?
    2) change the default location so file will automatically be saved on the external drive?
    Thanks in advance

    1) Try drag and drop from the Organizer folder panel.
    2) Launch Organizer and press Ctrl+G for the downloader, then connect your camera or device and use the browse button under save options.

  • How To Move Existing Library to External Drive

I have my Aperture library on my main internal drive. I have just purchased an eSATA drive (CalDigit's SVR Duo) and want to move my library off my internal drive onto the new external drive.
How can this be done? The only way I can figure out how to do it is to create a vault, backup the entire library, then restore with a new library referenced onto the external drive.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

A little easier is merely to move the Aperture library in Finder (Aperture Library.aplibrary) to its new location. Then double-click it to launch Aperture. Aperture will use this library and reset the Prefs. (came in in 1.5.0).
What I don't know is whether the Vault will still see the new location as the original library and continue providing incremental updates. Hopefully so.
The other big option is to leave the library "as is" on the internal drive, and using File/Relocate Masters for Project to relocate masters to the external drive leaving a small library. Note that Vault does not back up referenced masters.

  • How to move itunes media to external drive

I'm running iTunes for Windows 10.6.3.25 and have 3000+ songs in the library. I'd like to move the music files to an external hard drive, without losing the dates added, plays, genres or the directory structure. I've already made a copy of all the folders and music files to my external drive (I've called it M: for Music), but now I need to tell iTunes to look there for the music and not at my laptop's D-drive. Changing the iTunes media folder in the Edit-Preferences-Advanced tab doesn't seem to have any effect on the existing songs.
Anyone out there with tips or advice?
    Thanks

Type "move itunes library" into the search bar at the top of this page or your favorite search engine and follow the instructions.

  • New To Mac, How to move/copy files from external drive

Just got my first Mac computer. My music files (about 140 gb) are on an external drive.
When setting up iTunes the process of transfering and organizing the files took over 24 hours--more than twice as long as on my old PC.
I would like to keep the files on the Mac itself. I have plenty of space now, and I think not using an external drive improves performance. Then I could use the hard drive as a back-up, as nature intended.
Problem is, due to my inexperience with Macs I'm stumped as to how to do this.
Any suggestions would be greatly aprecciated!

I believe you would simply copy your iTunes Music folder from your external drive into the main iTunes folder on your Mac, then open Preferences, and in the Advanced section use the 'Change' button next to eh 'iTunes music folder location' window to find your copy of the iTunes Music folder and let your Mac know that's where all your tunes are.
That's pretty much the exact reverse of what I had to do!
Hope that helps (and isn't wrong)!

  • How to move iPhoto Library from external drive to new mac?

I have exported a copy of my iPhoto Library from my old mac to an external hard drive. How can I import entire library into iPhoto of new mac? When I click Import to Library, I'm unable to highlight iPhoto Library file listed on my external hard drive in Finder. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Is the iPhoto library on the new computer empty? If it is, quit iPhoto and just drag the iPhoto library on the New Computer to the trash and drag the iPhoto library from the EHD to the pictures folder on the new computer - there is no importing involved - you NEVER want to import an iPhoto library into another iPhoto Library
If you want to run the new computer with the iPhoto library on the external drive simply launch i{Photo while depressing the option (alt) key and use the select library to point to the EHD

  • How to move all Photos to external Drive/make that default storage

I have stored all of my IPhotos on my internal Mac drive. This was a dumb mistake cause now it is full. So I would like to make my tera drive the default location for all future photos and move all existing photos to the tera drive as well.
How do I do that without losing all my photos???
    Thanks
    Dennis

First: Make sure this “tera drive” is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Otherwise you will have problems with your Library.
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • How to move support folders to external drive?

I have probably more than 20 GB of support material - templates, etc. - for DVDSP, Color, iDVD (which I don't even use), on my internal hard drive.
It could be helpful to move it out onto one of my external HD's, but I'm not sure if I should or how to.

You can move items pretty easily then recoonect for DVD SP you would. Go to preferences and point the template location (and other elements) to where the templates are on the external hard drive.
For instance In DVD SP Preferences -> Destinations -> Palette Elements and point to the folder.
(If you cannot find the templates, do a search for items containing the name .dsptemplate to find the folder where templates are on the external)
I usually move only the big things (usually audio for Soundtrack, which is about 20 Gigs, which you can reindex, DVD SP Templates and stuff which I do not use) but do leave some things such as Motion where they are. Not sure how much Color really has, but are you talking about the render files?

how can i move a vlc movie held on my external drive onto my itunes library (so i can then load it onto my ipad to watch?

That is the only logical conclusion. There is an easy solution. On the Mac app store download a free app called smartconverter. It is free. You just drag and drop file into app and it will convert to any file u want. I hope that foxes your issue

  • Imovie 10: how to move the (movie) library to an external drive

    Hi all,
using imovie '11 it wasn't any problem to move the (movie) library to an external drive following these instrcutions: <http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2289?viewlocale=en_US>. After updating to mavericks and imovie 10 I can't find the hard drive icon to pull down the drive list any more.
Maybe I missed something very obvious but would be very happy for any suggestion.
    Thanks in advance,
    best regards,
    Stephan

Your events and projects now reside in an file or files  with extension .imovielibrary.    You can create a new library wherever you want from within iMovie and drag and drop events into it from an exisitng library.  If you want to move the complete library, select the library then go File - Consolidate Project Media.  This ensures the library is self-contained and doesn't have any links to external media which could break when it is moved.  You can then move the library to the external HD using the Finder.  When you restart iMovie you will have to select  File - Open Library - Other and navigate to its new location.
There are a lot of changes in imovie 10 and its really necessary to study the help file (http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov3fa25bae7)

  • Running my .mp4 Movie files from an External Drive

I have quite a few familiy movies etc that I've put together using FCP and I've sent these to itunes as .mp4 files which I then playon our TV through the apple TV module.
However I'd really like to be able to store these home movies on an external drive to save my HD space and also keep them safe.
Is it possible to trasfer all of these .mp4 files in my itunes movies folder onto an external drive and run them from there on my apple TV?
    Thanks,
    Steve

No, Michael Allbritton's (MA) method just copies the files you have selected to consolidate to the location you have temporarily designated in preferences.  MA didn't mean "library" as being the library file (library.itl) but the "collection".  Your files would still all be managed from the same iTunes library file on your internal drive but the movie files you selected to consolidate would now be referenced to their new location on the external drive.
Note the difference between these two methods:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
Moving your movies will only apply to your current collection.  If you add movies in the future you will need to make sure they are on the external drive, then hold down the option key while dragging the file to iTunes to tell iTunes to not copy it to your internal drive (which has been re-set as the location for your media folder after the move directions).

  • How to store iMovie files on external drive?

I'd like to store large video files on an external drive, but iMovie seems to automatically import everything onto my internal hard drive.
    1) Can I set it to automatically import to an eternal drive?
    2) If not, which files can I safely move to an external to free up space on the internal drive?
    3) Should I move the raw files to an external before I edit them, or after?
    4) In any case, my general question is how to conserve space on my internal drive by using an external drive for iMovie files?

Get an external drive and make sure it is formatted as HFS+ (journalled) or MacOS Extended (journaled) (two ways of saying the same thing. If the external drive is formatted as FAT32, iMovie will not recognize it.
You can reformat if necessary using the Disk Utility.
When you import from your videcamera, you can select your External Drive as the target of the import.
If you have Event Files that are already on your internal drive, you can move them to the external drive, but you must do this from within iMovie. If you move the events using the Finder, your projects that link to these events will be broken.
To move the Events from within iMovie, select VIEW/EVENTS BY VOLUME.
In your Events Source Pane, you should see all your Events and also an icon for your external drive. Drag an Event icon to the hard drive icon, and it will move the Event to the hard drive, and automatically place it into the proper folder on the external drive so that iMovie can recognize it.
Leave Projects on your internal drive. If you upgrade to iMovie 09, it allows projects to be on the external drive, too. Project files are generally pretty small, though. Your video footage is in the events.

  • Need to move pictures to an external drive.

can anyone advise me on setting a partion to an extrnal drive? I want to move pictures permantly to external drive so i can make room on my macbook. When I export pictures from iphoto (4,000 pictures), the folder on the extrnal drive has 798 mb. What's up? What am I doing wrong?
Im running 10.6.8 and increased memory to maximium.Macbook  2.16 GHz intel Core 2 Duo

I am confused by your post. Have you already done this and want to know why the folder is 798 mb, or are you asking for advice on how to partition the drive so you can move the pics? If you plan to partition you must do it before you move the Library.
Here is a guide on how to partition the drive:

  • How do I boot from an external drive?

I've just Carbon Cloned my 60GB drive to a firewire external drive. I'm about to replace the 60GB with a 160GB drive and the CCC instructions say boot from the external drive I'd just created once the new disk is installed. Then CCC the cloned drive back to the new hard drive.
So, how do I boot from an external drive? Do I have load anything to the new drive? Will the macbook detect the external drive and boot from that? Or what??????
    Thanks
    Dick

Thanks DWB. Being the rash impetuous guy I am I didn't wait for replies and just switched on the macbook after installing the new disk (which was so easy it was unbelievable - had to go and buy a a little torx bit though) to see what would happen.
Blow me down with a feather if it didn't just boot off the external drive all by itself :-O It did come up with the disk was unverified and I could see it in FINDER and I was prseented with a screen to ERASE/RESTORE etc.
When I went to CCC the external drive back to the new hard drive it didn't give show me the new hard drive so I guessed I'd have to do something to format (?) the hard drive.
I don't know if I did the right thing but I went to disk utilities and chose ERASE in the vague hope it would maybe format the disk in some way.
Seems to work now and the CCC replaced the system perfectly as far as I can see.
Basically very impressive all round. Piece of proverbial to replace the disk and CCC made life so easy.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers
    Dick
