How to mp3files, from iTunes, to iDisk public folder etc.

Greetings:
I need to upload unedited sound files to my .mac iDisk public folder for download from the sound editors.
How do I do this from iTunes. When I drag & drop, it goes through the motions of copying the files from iTunes, to the iDisk folder, yet nothing is actually transferred.
It is necessary to use iTunes because FCP will not compress in MP3, and the zipped aiff, although appearing as 4.9mb, is not allowed by iDisk (2G) as being 'too large of a file."
Suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

Nordicdogs
1. First export the music file to the desktop, then try move it to the iDisk.
2. The 'to large a file' message can occur if the File Permissions are screwed up. However, fixing permissions with Disk Utility only works with System Files, so Download BatchMod from
http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iTunes Music Folder.

  • Idisk public folder won't sync on .mac site

Help my local idisk used to sync perfectly to the main idisk mac site via my public folder, until I recently changed over from a dial up to wireless internet connection. Now isyn works ok, but I cannot upload anything from my local idisk public folder to the main idisk website on .mac.
Anyone with any suggestions would be welcome?
If it helps in any way, I could no longer receive e-mail on my mac.com e-mail address either as the wireless server and .mac settings are not compatible. So now I have to forward all my .mac.com e-mails to my g-mail address which downloads normally into entourage! I think this issue is probably linked to why my idisk won't work, but don't know how to fix it.
    Thanks for any help

Have you checked and double-checked passwords (keychain) for this iDisk thing?
Sometimes KeyChain FirstAid helps. or Repair permissions(n DiskUtility).
Do you get error messages when you attempt a file transfer to iDisk?
What do you mean "wireless server and .mac settings are not compatible"?
Your statement that you no longer receive email on dot-mac?
It appears that your dot-mac account is getting mail, since you're able to forward it somewhere else.
Do you really mean that whatever mail program you use isn't able to login to the dot-mac mail account?

How to regress from iTunes 7 to iTunes 6.0.5
    1. Make sure you have a copy of the iTunes 6.0.5 installer. If you no longer have one, download it here:
    http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=11622&cat=1&platform =osx&method=sa/iTunesSetup.exe
    2. Shut down iTunes 7 if it is running
    3. Uninstall iTunes 7 via the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
    4. Go to your iTunes MUSIC folder (usually C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes). You will see two files called "iTunes Library" and "iTunes Music Library". These belong to iTunes 7, DELETE them.
NOTE: Take care not to confuse this with the iTunes INSTALLATION folder, which is usually C:\Program Files\iTunes.
    5. You will also see a folder called "Previous iTunes Libraries". Look inside, there may be several copies depending upon your upgrade history with names like "iTunes Library 2006-09-12". Take the most recent one (the last one used by iTunes 6) and COPY it up to the folder C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes. Now RENAME this file back to simply "iTunes Library".
NOTE: To copy a file in Windows, right-click the file and choose "Copy". Now go to the folder you wish to copy to, right-click in the empty folder space and choose "Paste".
NOTE: To rename a file in Windows, select the file and press F2. Now type the name you want and press ENTER.
After this is done, your iTunes MUSIC folder (C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes) should contain the following objects:
    a) The file "iTunes Library" that you just copied there and renamed
    b) The folder "Previous iTunes Libraries"
    c) The folder "iTunes Music"
    6. Now reinstall iTunes 6. All your playlists and ratings will appear as if nothing had happened. And, your Shuffle will work once more.

I just want to bump this and say thank you soooo much.
I upgraded to itunes 7 today (I have an ipod mini) and everything was fine except I couldn't upload anything my ipod...sooo frustrating, so when I saw this I followed your steps and voila, I can upload music again!
Thank you...and apple should really check the programs before letting people upgrade...also if the newer pogams don't work for the older devices, they should make a note so people don't make that change.

very awesome, its nice to have working itunes again,
and be able to do things and still listen to music. I
already god all the album art and games onto my ipod,
so i can live not updating my ipod again until they
    get around to fixing this.
Once again thanks for the guide, helped me out a
    whole lot
You are welcome. There is a lot of noise here, I thought I would add something purely technical.
One quick addition: The correct extension for the file "iTunes Library" is .ITL. If you have Windows set NOT to "Hide extensions for known file types" you will see this extention, e.g. "iTunes Library.itl".
Be careful when renaming this file to retain the .itl extension. If you do erase it, put it back so iTunes can recognize it.

  • How to configure the iTunes,to display only folder name as Album.

How to configure the iTunes,to display only folder name as Album under Music.
I have a folder with name "English" under this I have plenty of folders which are either movie names or custom names created by me,inside of these are the music files. I just want all the files to be copied to the iPod with out any album artwork(which the itunes display under "Album By Artist" contains). The "Album By Artist" doesnt seem to contain just the folder name,it gets something else like the website from where the music file downloaded. This makes me irritating to browse through iPod or iTunes.
Please help me in configuring,so that I can just see the same folder/music hierarchy I see in my windows machine in the iPod.

Yep, I agree with Jurjen. It is not only limited to ACTVT, but rather fields of other objects as well which are "action" or "activity" related.
I would start the other way around - give them '03' only and investigate any transaction specific claims that it is not enough. There will be a few...
    Cheers,

  • Idisk public folder with password inaccessible via Safari

My idisk public folder is password protected.
No one (at least using a Mac) can access it using Safari.
They can, however, access it from a Mac using FireFox. (I haven't tried IE).
Is this a known bug. I recall it happening pre-Leopard, as well, so I don't think it's Leopard specific.

  • Looking for the Mac OS 9 iDisk Public Folder icon

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm creating an icon set of Mac OS 9 icons for OS X. I've been able to locate the regular iDisk icon, as it's stored in the Mac OS 9 "System" file. But, what I can't seem to locate is the iDisk Public folder icon. I found a pic of what it looks via Google Images:
    http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/eisnerguy1/iDiskPublicFolder.png
If anyone could help me out, that'd be awesome

    Hi, Alex -
If you are accessing iDisk while booted to OS 9, you are probably using the utility Goliath to do so.
The icon you reference looks much like those in the set used by Goliath, which can be found in the icl8 resource in the Goltiath program.
Tip - in OS 9, when you copy-paste an icon to a folder to give the folder a custom icon, an invisible file named "icon" is created and placed in the folder. This invisible file contains the "icl" family of resources for the custom icon. This resource is easily opened using ResEdit, and perhaps by other icon manipulation utilities, and eliminates a lot of the clutter associated with opening a program in ResEdit to get to the icl resources.
Because of changes to the icon formats ResEdit itself no longer works well in OS 9.1 and later for alteration or modification of an icon. However, there is a utility that will allow you to create custom icons or modify existing ones -

  • Share iMovie 08 files via iDisk Public Folder

Does anybody know the best way to share iMovie files via the public folder of my iDisk? I'm trying to share videos of HS football games using this method. The files are 250-400 MB in size. Anyone have any ideas?

You would send the "link" to your QuickTime file stored in your iDisk Public folder.
    The URL syntax would be:
    http://homepage.mac.com/accountname/.Public/filename/fileextension.
Ask your visitors to copy (don't click) on the link. Then open QuickTime Player and "Open URL" (File menu) and paste the URL.
One of mine as an example:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/.Public/RedneckTexasChristmas.mov
You can also use simple XML syntax to create a QuickTime Media Link file that allows more features (full screen, autoplay and quit when done and even embed URL "links" into the file.
    Another example:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/.Public/RedneckTexasChristmas.qtl
Clicking the link above will download a very tiny file and then link to the source video (and the additional features).

  • IDisk Public folder access

I'm attempting to give others browser access to my public folder. Everything works per the directions below except that the public folder password doesn't work. It's necessary to use my dot-Mac password to reach my public folder! Has anyone else seen this?
"Mac or Windows users who are not MobileMe members can access your iDisk by opening a web browser and entering: public.me.com/[YourMemberName], and if necessary, entering your Public folder password."

I have the exact problem mentioned above.
I have changed my System Preferences — MobileMe — iDisk — Your iDisk Public Folder — Password-protect your public folder PASSWORD to a NEW PASSWORD that is not my ACCOUNT PASSWORD and it won't take.
I have tried to access my public folder with the NEW PASSWORD but it only responds to my ACCOUNT PASSWORD.
I've reset it the password many times, restarted many times and have tried accessing the public folder through Safari and Firefox.
I'd prefer to have a separate password for my public folder.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
