How to name or rename iTunes tracks.

Hi. I have put a cd into iTunes. The names of the  tracks are  are shown as Track1, Track 2, etc. This seems to be normal,  as the cd was given to me by my son who burned it with  songs he liked. I now want to put names on each track. I can't find instructions on how to put in names. I would appreciate it if someone woulde tell me how to do this, or tell me where to find the information
thanks
Mike

right click the file, select "get info" click the info tab, and you can edit all the information about the song.
see attached pic. also sometimes if you click just once on the file it lets me rename it (if i click towards the beginning of the file name)

  • Problem Renaming iTunes Tracks

    I'd pull my hair out if I had more of it. Periodically, when renaming a track in iTunes the name reverts right before my eyes, when I play the track right after renaming it!
    My process:
    1. I find the track to rename
    2. I select Get Info for the track
    3. I select the field "Name"
    4. I edit the track name
    5. I press "OK"
    6. I go to play the song and the old track name reappears instead of the one I just entered!
    I've even tried renaming the track in the Finder, so that the edit of the name is now in both the Finder and iTunes, and still iTunes reverts it back to the old name.
    Important to Note: This is not a usual occurrence, but happens enough to push me to the edge ...   ;<)

    It now sounds like the files have tags.  Some file formats (mentioned before) do not accept tags, and I think some that do may not have tags until they are created.  At least, in my old version of iTunes there is a "create ID3 tags" feature under Advanced and it creates several different versions as well as "none".
    iTunes works this way.  You add a file; it reads the tag data (if any) and uses that to fill in entries for that data in its own database (Library.itl), so there's some redundancy here.  If you edit the tag, iTunes changes the information in the database and re-writes the file with the new tag data.  If you use a third party editor to change a tag in a file, it will not change in iTunes until you play or activate reading the file, at which time iTunes compares the file tags to its own database and if they differ it updates its  database to match the file tags.  For some reason when you are now changing a tag in iTunes it seems it is not re-writing the file.  It is changing the data in its own database, but when you play the file it is comparing the datasets, seeing the file has different, and changing it all back again.  I don't know why.  I have seen this happen before and reverted to using a third party editor (MP3Rage) to change the tags on the file.  Tagging protocol isn't cast in stone.  It is possible your dBpoweramp is playing by slightly different tagging rules than iTunes, and iTunes cannot edit the tags in those files but it can still read them.
    Things to try:
    If the new iTunes still has the create tags feature see if creating the tags will let them be edited.
    Use a third party editor.

  • How to cut and combine itunes tracks?

    I have created a slideshow for a wedding and want to play parts of a few itunes songs during the slideshow. I have read that Garage Band is supposed to be able to do this, but I cannot figure out how to do it in Garage Band. Can someone please help? Thanks!

    drop the song files into the GB timeline to create tracks for them. drag the bottom left or right corners to reduce what's played. you can fade in/out parts with volume curves (search for "curve" in GB's help)

    Gotcha, sorry, I'm guessing you are referring to Windows Autoplay.  This should do it:
    Type regedit into your search bar and bring up Registry editor. Go to the the very top with My Computer. Now go to Edit and Find. Type in the whole offending name that is bugging you, i.e. Soandso's iPhone and hit find. After it searches your registry and finds the first name select it and Edit the Name. I copy/pasted it for all the next steps. After you have found the first name don't stop there. Use F3 to find next Name in registry and So on and so fourth until you have replaced every offending name in your whole registry with the Name you want to show up i.e. Tom's iPhone or whatever? Repeat all of these steps if you have more than one name showing up in your devices? Worked 100% for me. Close regedit and reboot (very important for changes.) Plug your iPhone back in and enjoy all your names back to normal.

    I just transferred music from a desktop to a laptop to put on itunes. After this exhausting process of renaming and renaming unnamed tracks (b/c itunes made me rename them even after I rewrote the names in the music folder of my computer even though I hadn't put the songs onto itunes beforehand when the tracks were unnamed), when I play one on itunes the song title disappears and though the song plays, I have to AGAIN rewrite the name of the song. Is there an actually answer out there???!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    i guess you are referring to iTunes Match. It sounds as though you haven't downloaded all the content and are trying to play your music over a poor connection.

    I have copied my CDs into iTunes  (currently running v11) to play on my iPod.  I have now bought a non Apple mp3 player to use when I am out running.  How can I copy the many tracks I want from iTunes onto the new player?
    Thanks

    I tried Notpod but can't get it to work.  Part of the problem, I suspect, is that I can't create a folder on my player (a SanDisk Clip+).  I also can't do this in Windows Explorer.  Whilst I can see the Clip+ in Explorer, the option to create a new folder isn't there.
    The error mesag I get in Notpod is:
    "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application.  If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.  If you click Quit the application will close immediately.
    InvalidArgument=Value of '0' is not valid for 'SelctedIndex'. Parameter name: SelectedIndex"
    Then, when I plug the Clip+ into a USB port, iTunes thinks it is my iPad - which is because, I guess, Notpod hasn't worked.
    I can drag and drop files from the Music folder where my iTunes tracks are stored onto the Clip+ and they get converted but I'd rather synchronise a Playlist from iTunes if I can.
    Thanks anyone who can help

  • How to download the same song(track) with different keys? iTunes seems to think I have already downloaded the song and will not download the song in a different key of the Demo Track

    How to download the same song(track) with different keys? iTunes seems to think I have already dowloaded the song and will not let me download the song in a different key or the Demo.

    Hello Jigz19,
    It sounds like you are unable to play a couple of songs from your library becuase you get a message that the computer is unauthorized to play, but other content purchased that same day works without issue. I would verify that the affected songs were purchased with the same Apple ID first:
    Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1920
    Open iTunes
    Highlight one of the items you have purchased (You can find your purchases in your Purchases playlist).
    Choose File > Get Info.
    Click the Summary tab.
    The Account Name area will list the account used to purchase the item. Unless you have changed accounts, this is your iTunes Store account name.
    If so, then delete the songs:

    Then re download them with this article:

  • Python automation of iTunes to easily rename many tracks

    I wrote an IronPython script to easily rename tracks in iTunes. It works in IronPython with Python 2.7 compatibility. This saves me so much time and RSI-inducing effort that I want to share it here, in case it can help others. For example, I have a lot of classical music where the album is called "Beethoven Piano Sonatas" and each track name starts with something like: "Beethoven: Piano Sonata " and that's all I can see in my iPod display for each song. What I want these tracks to start with is something like "Sonata"
    To run the script, save the code below as a .py file, e.g., iRename.py. Start iTunes and select the tracks you want to rename. Then run a command in the following format:
    ipy iRename.py replacesave [bad text] [good text]
    Voila! The songs are renamed in iTunes!
    The Beethoven example above would be run like:
    ipy iRename.py replacesave "Beethoven: Piano Sonata " "Sonata "
    In addition to "replacesave" the script accepts the following other commands:
    replace - Simulates a rename but does not change anything in iTunes
    find - Shows all selected tracks matching the search text
    list - Shows all selected tracks
    The search ("bad") text is a regular expression, so you can take advantage of this syntax if you are familiar with it. For example, to insert the text "New " (withouth the quotes) at the start of each selected track, you can run:
    ipy iRename.py replacesave "^" "New "
    Also, to remove the search text, set the second ("good") text argument to "[null]" (without the quotes).
    ipy iRename.py replacesave "Beethoven: Piano " "[null]"
    This is not a production-level product but just a useful tool. Maybe you can leverage it into something much more polished yourself. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Obvious room for improvement would be to gracefully handle when:
    iTunes is not running
    no tracks have been selected
    user entered invalid arguments
    If you have Python with Windows extensions but not IronPython, comment out the blue lines and uncomment the brown lines; this has not been completely tested but is included here for reference, to show both ways of getting an iTunes application object.

    Here is an update with a renumbering feature. It saves a lot of time to renumber many tracks, for example when you want to combine a multi-disc set under a single album name. Use the "renumber" (for practice) or "renumbersave" (to really renumber) commands.
    import sys
    command = sys.argv[1]

        print "Replacing \"{0}\" with \"{1}\"".format(orig, repl)
        if repl == "[null]":
             repl = ""
    elif command == "find":
        orig = sys.argv[2]
        print "Finding \"{0}\"".format(orig)
    elif command == "list":
        print "List:"
    elif command == "renumber" or command == "renumbersave":
        track_nr = int(sys.argv[2])
        print "Renumbering:"
    else:
        print "Invalid command: \"{0}\"".format(command)
        sys.exit(1)
    for track in itunes.SelectedTracks:
        if command == "list":
            print track.TrackNumber, track.Name
        elif command == "renumber" or command == "renumbersave":
            print "{0:03d} ==> {1:03d} {2}".format(track.TrackNumber, track_nr, track.Name)
            if command == "renumbersave":
                track.TrackNumber = track_nr
            track_nr += 1
        elif command == "find" or command == "replace" or command == "replacesave":
            if search(orig, track.Name):
                if command == "find":
                    print track.Name
                if command == "replace" or command == "replacesave":
                    new_name = sub(orig, repl, track.Name)

    Hi, I am an entertainer that want rename a track a music a number of different ways so it will come up in playlist that work alphabeticly.
    for instance:
    Good Song I want to change to:
    A Good Song
    B Good Song
    C Good Song
    D Good Song
    So I can place them in different playlist and keep the order straight.

    You can't give a single track multiple sets of properties, but if you want four copies of a song with different metadata then find the original and copy/paste it three times into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder, then edit the properties of each in turn.

    How do I change the itunes user name on my iphone? When I attempt to purchase an app or update the existing ones, the previous owner of this iphone has their information displayed and asks for the password as their user name is automatically prompted?

    The apps are tied to the account from which they were purchased.  If the apps were purchased from the previous owners account, then they would have to be updated from that account.  you should not have these apps anyway.  You need to buy your own.
    Read the manual.  it will tell you how to sign into your account to buy apps.

  • How to change or rename the logical system name T90CLNT090 IN BI 7

    HI Expert's,
    i am really digging for the solution of changing or renaming the logical system name technical name T90CLNT090.
    in our company we are using ecc5.0 with bi 3.5 and ecc6 with bi 7. In BW 3.5 having a connection with R/3 and the technical name of the myself bw source system(logical system) is T90CLNT090.
    In bi 7 also the logical system name is same as T90CLNT090. Because of the same system name(Logical name) it is not active in BI7 and also it's giving error when i am activating the DSO Object as Transfer structure prefix for source system T90CLNT090 is not defined.
    because of this i am not able to create the source system between r/3 also.
    so how to change this source system name for T90CLNT090.

    Hi,
    Pls follow this OSS note : 325525.
    Note 325525 - Copying and renaming systems in a BW environment
    Summary
    Symptom WARNING: THIS NOTE HAS BEEN REPLACED.  FOR MORE CURRENT AND MORE COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION SEE NEW NOTE 886102.
    You want to copy and or rename one or more systems (database or client copy). One or more of the systems is a BW system or is connected to a BW system.
    Caution: This note only deals with problems that occur in the BW source system connections. Other problems that occur in the BW environment (indexes) are NOT dealt with. See URL http://www.service.sap.com/bw --> Services & Implementation --> System copy & Migration.
    Other terms BW, source system, OLTP, database copy, client copy, system infrastructure, transport system, connections, RFC connection, trfc, transfer structure, IDoc, ALE customizing, logical system name, system changeability, renaming systems, system copy
    Solution Several scenarios are possible in this environment. Find the scenario relevant to your situation below and execute the steps listed or read the note(s) specified:
    Scenario 1) You do not want to copy a system but only want to rename one (changing a logical system name).
               Solution scenario 1): Execute Transaction BDLS both in the client to be renamed and in the connected BWs or BW source systems. To do this, see Notes 121163 and 369758.
               Check the RFC destinations in all connected BWs/BW source systems as described in Note 524554.
               Reactivate all partner agreements that carry the new logical system name after renaming.
    Scenario 2) You want to copy the entire system infrastructure connected by the BW source system connections (that means the entire system group) by a database copy. SAP recommends this procedure for copying systems.
               Solution scenario 2):
    If you want to rename one or more of the copied systems, then execute Transaction BDLS both in the client you wish to rename and in all the connected BW and BW source systems. See Note 121163.
                        Make sure that an RFC destination exists with the new logical name in every connected BW or BW source system.
                        Reactivate all partner agreements that carry the new logical system name after renaming.
    Change the hosts in the appropriate RFC destinations so that they refer to the correct computer. For this, see Note 524554.
    Scenario 3) You want to copy a single BW system of the group by database copy.
    Scenario 3)a) You only want to exchange the hardware of your system but do not want to rename the system.
                         Solution scenario 3)a): You do not need to execute follow-up work regarding the system connections, except for adjusting the IP address in the RFC destinations of the connected system.
    Scenario 3)b) You want to keep the original system of the copy so that you have two systems after copying.
                         Solution scenario 3)b): See Note 184754.
    Scenario 4) You want to copy a single source system of the group by database copy.
    Scenario 4)a) You only want to exchange the hardware of your system but do not want to rename the system.
                         Solution scenario 4)a): You do not need to execute follow-up work regarding the system connections, except for adjusting the IP address in the RFC destinations of the connected system.
    Scenario 4)b) You want to keep the original system of the copy so that you have two systems after copying.
               Solution scenario 4)b): See Note 184322.
    Scenario 5) You want to import a client copy in a source system.
               Solution scenario 5): See Note 325470.

  • How to change file name of duplicated audio track??????

    I option-clicked-dragged an audio track vertically to create a new track (the manual says to drag the track number but that doesn't seem to work - I dragged the single region). I created a new track name. I then dragged the new track to the right, so the notes are displaced. However, both tracks point to the same file (when I delete some audio in one track, the corresponding audio is automatically deleted in the other track - wrong behavior).
    How do I get the second track to be stored in a new file?
    Thanks

    this is normal behavior, option dragging makes a new region, but it still is using the same audio file.
    to create a new audio file out of the copy you can, from the audio menu in the arrange window choose "Convert regions to new audio files" this will turn it into a new audio file
