How to non-proportionally stretch image in Mavericks?

In previous iterations of OSX (in particular, Lion and Mountain Lion) I could place an image in an iWork application (Keynote in this example) and when I resized it, I could stretch an image to whatever proportion I wanted.
If it was a little too tall, I could reduce image height while leaving horizontal resolution alone.
If I needed proportional stretching, I could hold Shift and drag, resizing horizontal and vertical resolution proportionally.
The same goes for Preview: if I paste an image on top of another, I used to be able to stretch it to whatever shape/size I needed. Now, I can only stretch proportionally.
Is there a way to disable/modify this?

In the Arrange tab of the new iWork apps there is a constrain proportion checkbox.
In Preview, Tools Menu, Adjust Size, you can choose not to contrain proportions on resize.
But, I can't figure out how to do that for the pasted image.

  • Non-Proportional Crop or Ken Burns

    I am learning the new iMovie. I can't figure out how to non-proportionally crop photos by dragging just one side of the crop tool in or out. The entire box changes size in both dimensions. I don't want that. I just want one dimension to change.
    Hope you can help.
    Tom

    You could try  Edit > Select All  then click on the crop button and change the setting from Ken Burns to Fit.
    I find that this only works if you do not have the Automatic Cross Dissolve transitions in place.
    If you do, File > Project Theme and uncheck the transitions and remove them.
    After you have changed from Ken Burns to Fit, you can re-apply them.
    Easiest way in future is to set up your project (File > Project Properties) before you start adding photos.

  • Image placeholder - how not to stretch images by default

    Captivate 8.0.1.242 - Windows 7
    How do I make the image placeholder to not to stretch images by default and rather when I add the image using the + symbol, it should maintain the aspect ratio of the image and resize only based on either width or height?
    Or still maintain aspect ratio of the image but crop of the excess beyond the current placeholder size.
    I want this by default as when I create my courses, my images vary in aspect ratios and sizes quite a bit. Thus investing time on each image through "edit image" in the properties isn't efficient.

    Do you have any suggestions for what I can do instead? I just don't want to spend couple of minutes for each picture which obviously gets multiplied for each of the 3 different responsive views. This is lead to hours wasted for each course work. Am I forced to find only pictures of same aspect ratio and size for the future or is there any workaround?

  • How to change icon images in Mavericks?

    I am having difficulty changing some Desktop Icon images in Mavericks.
    Some times I can (Macintosh HD), sometimes I cannot (Applications folder or alias), for example.
    Never had problem prior to 10.9

    To change your Applications folder icon:
    In Finder, press shift-command-G, paste in the following and press Go..
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/ApplicationsFol derIcon.icns
    Change the name of ApplicationsFolderIcon.icns to ApplicationsFolderIcon.icns.backup
    Confirm this change by selecting Use .backup and enter your password
    Move the .icns file you want to use for your Applications folder and rename it ApplicationsFolderIcon.icns
    Enter your password when prompted
    Restart your computer, open Terminal, type
    killall Finder
    and press return.
    You should have a new Applications folder icon.
    To revert, delete the new file, change the name of the original file back to ApplicationsFolderIcon.icns and follow the rest of the steps above.
    [NB: This change may not stick through future OS updates]

  • How can I attach an image without the image is in the email body? (using the new mail the Lion)

    How can I attach an image without the image is in the email body? (using the new mail the Lion)
    I want in attachment, not in the body mail.

    I think your only solution is to zip the image files first and then attach them.
    Read this from a site I found:
    Sending Graphical Attachments -- When you attach a graphical image to your message, the recipient of your message sees the image inline (that is, in the body of the message) if her email client supports inline display. ("Take Control of Email with Apple Mail" contains a table listing the capabilities of popular Mac and PC email clients.) If a client does not support inline display (or the recipient has turned off the inline display option), the file appears as an attachment that must be opened in a separate program.
    On the one hand, an inline image is easier for the recipient to see - all she has to do is look at it. On the other hand, inline images can be frustrating to scroll through. If you do not wish to send a graphical image inline, you must compress the file before attaching it - Mail, sadly, lacks a built-in compression option, though fortunately for Panther users, the Finder offers Zip compression without requiring a separate application.
    Note that when you compose a new message, Mail always shows attachments in the body of your message. You can manually drag them somewhere else, but many email clients display all attachments in a separate list, regardless of where you place them in the message body.
    If you paste an image into a message or drag & drop an image from another window (say, a Web browser), Mail converts the raw image data to an attachment in TIFF format. On the other hand, if you drag & drop the icon of an image file (or use the Attach button to locate the file using the file browser), Mail leaves the attached image in its original format. This difference is significant, because although most email clients can display JPEG images just fine, support for TIFF - especially in non-Mac email clients - is less common. If possible, I suggest attaching image files as opposed to pasting or dragging in raw image data.

  • How Do I Combine Several Images Into One Image Which Contains Links To A Series Of Web Sites?

    How do I combine several images into one such that the combined image contains a series of web links? In particular, I’d like to create such an image and put it into my Outlook email signature. At present, as per the image below, I have at least six separate images in my email signature with each image containing a web link. Is Photoshop the best tool for this job? Or would it be easier to do this in some other package? I have three packages at my disposal: Photoshop, Ilustrator and Dreamweaver. Can someone please explain in detail how I would do this? Or perhaps someone could direct me to a link that explains how to do this. Thank you.

    Thank you for that correction, Hobotor. I admit I hadn't thought about an image map, in the context of someone who doesn't seem to know HTML very well...  My thinking was running along the use of the Photoshop Slice Tool to get most of the way there...
    To expand on the above, if you were to slice up your image using the Slice Tool, say like this:
    Save for Web & Devices will create the HTML and save all the sub-images.
    Then you edit the HTML and add a (hypertext link) elements surrounding the various images.  Only thing is you'll have to set the border-style of the images to none.
    For example:
    <!-- Save for Web Slices () -->
    <table id="Table_01" width="554" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
    <tr>
      <td colspan="10">
       <img id="Sig_01" style="border-style:none" src="images/Sig_01.jpg" width="554" height="56" alt="" /></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td colspan="10">
       <a href="http://www.GrahamsWebSite.com"><img id="Sig_02" style="border-style:none" src="images/Sig_02.jpg"
            width="554" height="43" alt="" /></a></td>
    </tr>
    etc.

  • How can I resize an image in the header?

    I have uploaded my organization's logo into our document, but it is out of proportion to the rest of the document. I've delted it and uploaded smaller versions of the logo and it is still too big. How can I format the image in the header so that it is more reasonably sized?

    Thanks. The triangle was buried in the image. If you hadn’t told me where to look, I would never have found it!

  • How do I resize an image within a drop zone (not the drop zone itself) in motion 5?

    How do I resize an image within a drop zone (not the drop zone itself) in motion 5?

    I think others would be able to help if you describe a little more why you'd like to do this. Given that drop zones are a way of passing images into Motion that you want to manipulate, resizing a drop zone is the equivalent of resizing the image.
    If you're having a problem with an image from Final Cut being too big or too small, select the Drop Zone in the inspector and make sure the Fit parameter is set to 'Fit' - 'Center' will result in images dropped not being scaled to fit the Drop Zone. 'Stretch' will force the dropped image to fill the space defined by the drop zone,
    If the image is already cropped and scaled up in Final Cut Pro, that is the information that Motion gets - you can't scale down the image to see more of the edges that have been cropped off.
    If you want more than one copy of the image passed via the drop zone, use Make Clone Layer from the Object menu.

  • Help!  Question, how do I move an image along with the text

    New to InDesign and I'm creating a how-to brochure of sorts for my business and as I'm making edits/updates I realize I need to insert another picture at the beginning of the document.  I already have a bunch of other images throughout the document in specific places that need to remain with the text they are wrapped around.  If I try to insert a new picture at the beginning of the document and wrap the text, all of the text moves down throughout the document but the images do not.  That means none of the images are in the correct place anymore.  Is there a way to make sure if I insert a new picture or text at any place in the document all of the following images move with the text they are by?  I'm sure its a simple fix, I just can't figure it out.  Thanks.

  • Just set up lightroom 5 and imported images with sequence number but wanted image number.  How do I renumber all images in lightroom with an image number?

    How do I renumber all images in lightroom with an image number?

    Try line-height: 19px; and display: block; (as shown) on the following css seletor :
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a {
         font-family: Lucida Sans Unicode, Lucida Grande, sans-serif;
         color: #CC6;
         text-decoration: none;
         padding-top: 10px;
         padding-right: 12px;
         padding-bottom: 10px;
         padding-left: 12px;
         line-height: 19px;
         display: block;
    Normally setting a height on a container which you have no control over is not a good idea. The text can be enlarged and that will throw everything off. The best way is to set no heights at all but use padding and make sure your background image is flexible enough to accommodate the text enlargement.
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a {
          padding: 12px 12px;
         display: block;

  • QuickLook and preview pane stretches images

    The Finder column view preview pane and QuickLook stretch many of my photos. But when I open the same photos in Preview.app, they look normal.
    Screenshot:
    For example, download this image (reaver.jpg), and view it with Finder's column view. Now view it with QuickLook. It renders correctly in every other application, so there's something going wrong in how QuickLook/Finder get the image dimensions.
    This problem started happening in either Mac OS X 10.8.1 or 10.8.2.
    Specs:
    * Finder 10.8
    * QuickLook v4.0 (555.0)
    * Mac OS X 10.8.2
    * MacBook Pro 2009
    Also posted in SuperUser.

    Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
    (Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
    If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and disable any third party login items. Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.

  • How do I place an image from PS into InDesign?

    Hi,
    I created a notecard in Photoshop and need to put two on a page in InDesign CS3. I placed the graphic on the page but it's way larger than the designated paper size. I tried going to Object>Fitting to fix the problem but nothing happened. So I tried manually setting the height and width I needed the image to be on the page and it resized the image okay but I couldn't see the entire image within the new size. So my question is how do I place an image, get it to the dimensions I need (see dimensions below) and add two to a page?
    FYI: The paper size is: 8.5 x 11 inches. The graphics are 4.25 x 5.5 inches. I need to print two to a page.
    Thanks for the help.

    To add to M Blackburn's advise, the two selection tools will change what you can do.
    The Selection tool (solid black arrow) will allow you to select the frame itself. It will only select the content if you click on the donut. When the frame is selected, you will see the frame with handles on the corners and centers of lines, and it will be in the color designated to the layer. The default color for layer one is blue, but this can be changed, so don't be thrown if it isn't blue for some reason. Dragging the handles will change the size and placement of the frame, and when moved toward the image, will crop it. Holding the shift key while dragging a handle will keep the frame within proportion (a 3"x5" rectangle will remain 3 units by 5 units, although those units will be larger or smaller than an inch, depending on whether you enlarge or shrink the frame).
    The Direct Selection tool (white arrow) will select the content, rather than the frame. When selecting the content, you will see the handles on a bounding box around the content, and the color will be light brown. Dragging a handle will change the size of the image, and you can also drag the whole image to move it in relation to the frame, which can be used to crop the image as well. Holding shift will keep the image size proportional.
    You should take notice of whether the frame color or the content color is what you see, because double-clicking with the Selection tool will toggle between frame and content, the way clicking within the donut will allow content to be edited while the Selection tool is active.
    If you want to view the image size as a percentage, using the Direct Selection tool is what you want. If you use the Selection tool, you will see the percentage of the frame, which will change while you are dragging it, but as soon as you release the mouse button, it will show 100%. Switching to the Direct Selection tool will show you the percentage of reduction or enlargement of the image itself, and if the X and Y aren't the same, your image is out of proportion.
    Lastly, the shift key, along with Command will probably be what you will use the most, as it will allow you to drag a corner of the frame of a placed image with the Selection tool and proportionally resize the content along with the frame.
