How to not accept spelling correction

Most of the time, I'm happy to accept the spelling corrections iPhone provides... especially when it inserts apostrophies (e.g. wont -> won't). But, having the spacebar be the signal to accept a correction is awkward... especially when what I've typed is correct. Then I have to go back and undo the changes... well, you all know what I mean. Is there some optional key to tell it, "no, don't change it... my spelling is correct"?

My wife's iTunes used ID will not work.  Tried resetting the password, but email was not received.  Tried using personal questions method, but would not accept the correct date of birth, so could not go any further.  Has her iTunes ID been hacked?  How can I fix this?

    Thanks for that advice @randers4.
I linked through and submitted my info as a "topic not covered" in the iCloud section. After entering the serial number of my MBP it turns out I wasn't eligible for technical support (though I don't think this is hardware related support) and the final suggestion was to take my computer into an Apple store. I called my local Apple reseller and asked for assistance. The customer service rep was very nice but unable to help, so suggested I call Apple Support on 1300 321 456. I did so and, again, spoke to two very polite and helpful customer service people (I was transferred to security services). I didn't have to be on hold to speak to either rep for more than a few seconds! After trying a few different things, he worked out what was happening...
So, to cut a long story short, to solve the problem in my OP, all I had to do was log out of iCloud in my System Preferences and log back in using my current Apple ID. [Edited to add that I had to sign out of everything I was currently signed in to with my Apple ID before logging out and in again.]
    Problem solved!

I think I now understand what you are describing.  This is the Apple support article on a Safe Boot:

Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional does not accept the correct serial number after reinstallation, what to do?

Thank you Bill. You could help me with the answer and the one in the other forum:
"Acrobat has a separate installation process and needs to be activated with your Adobe ID I think. The question on CC is really one for the folks in the CC forum (Adobe Creative Cloud), not the Acrobat forum".
I could resolve things with Adobe CC. I don´t need my old Acrobat 8, but I could finally install Acrobat XI Pro - and this time it seems to work, without permanently crashing down.
    Thank you.

  • My password is not accepted although correct

I am finding with both my machines that they will not accept my password. I go through the reset procedure and then find in due course the password is being rejected again.
The only reason I an think of for this is that I use the same password on both of my machines which are networked but I can't find anything suggesting this is a problem.
Does anyone have any ideas, please? I am not forgetting the password.

I had similar problem this morning on my tower G5. It didn't accept any password even though I know it's correct. I reset the password with 10.4 installation disk but it didn't help.
But somehow I was able to solve it. This is what I did.
    1) I installed another HD and booted my G5 up from that HD.
    2) G5 booted up fine, no password problem.
    3) Accessed the files on the HD which doesn't accept the password.
    4) Went to Startup Disk and booted from the problematic HD.
    5) My G5 booted fine and accepted the password.
I don't know what I did would work for everyone. Also, if you don't have a Tower, you cannot install another HD. If you have an iMac, maybe using an external firewire HD might do it. I'm eager to find out if this works for everyone.

  • Password for encrypted external hardrive is not accepted, but correct in keychain

Last night in umounted my encrpyted external harddrive from my Macbook. This morning I reattached it  back, and I was asked for my password, even that I have checked "Save password to keychain" which would automount it automatically, which worked fine for several months.....
So I tried entering it my password several times, but it was not accepted.  I opend up the keychain management tool and you can unhide the password. The password I am entering is matching with that one stored in the keychain. I entered my password in a Terminal/Editor to see that for some funny reason the keymapping is wrong or something, and tried different USB ports for the hard drive. Nothing works..... So, what is happening here ?

    Hi Eric
Thanks for you suggestion, I tried that, but the hard drive wouldn't react for 2-3 days. Also the tool said that there are no problems with the keys etc, IIRC.
It looked like the filesystem had problems which wouldn't be repaired until unlocked, which wouldn't unlock until repaired (chicken-egg-problem).
Then out of a sudden, it worked again, mysteriously. I bought a Timecapsule to have a backup device in general, and while I was setting up my network and stuff I realised that the icon for my harddrive appeared on the screen for no apparent reason. It works now as normal es ever, as nothing strange ever had happened. I had set the same password for my TC as I am using for encryption for the external drive.....
I still don't know what really happened, but kids make sure, that you even backup your backups!

  • I contacted the itunes store support and asked for  an explanation of a refund and then my first name (for the account data) was not accepted - though correct - only when cancelling the second name it went through. How can that be???

Hello - I wonder what can have happened. I got a mail from the itunes store with the info of a refund for an App that I cannot have purchased. Then I asked for help via the support and had to fill out a form with data. My account name (first name and last name) was already there and when I finally wanted to submit my request for support it said that my first name ( there are 2 for that) was not correct. I had the idea of cancelling the 2nd 'first name = only M. and then the request was accepted.
What might be the reason for all that turmoil? I mean the refund for s.th. that I did not buy and then the non acceptance of my first name's data?
    I appreciate a comment, aimeeh

  • How to change the spelling correction language in Mail

    Hey!
Often I have to write emails in different languages and I'm looking for a solution to change the spelling language by a click. My plan was to record the procedure of changing the language and then to add for every language one button to the mail tool bar. First I tried to record an AppleScript in Mail. Didn't work at all (actually the only app I found which records scripts is Finder). Then I recorded a similar task in Finder which works fine and tried to adopt it to Mail. It didn't work out. Has someone an idea how I can solve that problem.
My simple training script what I tried to adopt for Mail (i just tried to change something in the Mail preferences, not the language):
tell application "Finder" <--- replaced all "Finder" with "Mail"
    activate
    select Finder window 1
    open window of Finder preferences
set folders open in new windows of Finder preferences to true
    close window of Finder preferences
    end tell
    Thanks
    Bastian

    Hi
It's not that easy! Apart from the fact that Mail doesn't work the same way as Finder, it also doesn't have its own spell checker: it uses the system-wide AppleSpell service.
The pane you see when you manually change the preferred spelling language in Mail (or TextEdit, or Safari) doesn't belong to Mail at all, and isn't directly accessible by AppleScript because AppleSpell is an invisible and unscriptable process.
See this closed Apple Discussions thread for a brief indication of how you can change the preferred language using a shell script.
And see this macoshints thread for an indication of the complexity of the issue.
You need to know the "code" for each language used in the preferences file: "en_GB" for British English, "fr" for French etc etc. You would then need to wrap each shell script in an AppleScript "do shell script" command like this:
do shell script "defaults write 'Apple Global Domain' 'NSPreferredSpellServerLanguage' \"fr\""
to change the language to French.
Unfortunately, I think you would also need to quit Mail and relaunch it before the change will take effect.
