How to -not- compress images on import?

Hi all,
Sorry if this has come up a gazillion times before, but I cannot seem to figure it out.
I want to create a simple PDF containing some images and two videos for laptop/beamer presentation.
Whatever setup I do with the Distiller presets regarding importing images, Acrobat always compresses the imported images, leaving them less than crisp.
I just want them (JPG's) imported and shown -as is-.
Is this impossible in Acrobat, or am I missing a very obvious setting somewhere deep in the Distiller options?
Cheers for any replies,
rob

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear(er).
If I create a PDF with Acrobat, it will -always- compress the images.
After reading up on the manual, it seemed the Distiller settings are responsible on how Acrobat  behaves with importing images.
I created profiles with Distiller to not compress anything, and choose that as printersetting for a new PDF.
It still compresses my images, it's annoying!!!!
My workaround for now is to create a OO Impress Presentation, export that to a PDF, open that PDF in Acrobat, add my videos (as Impress can't) and save that to a new PDF. This works as I want it to work (no compression on my images).
I hope this helps explaining it a bit more, and thanks for any insights.

  • How to set TOC Image for "Import HTML articles"?

For "Import HTML articles", I set TOC Image (70 x 70 px, PNG) on Folio Builder.
But at Adobe Content Viewer on iPad, TOC Image doesn't appear.
I confirmed on Dashboard, TOC Image for "Import HTML articles" appears correctly.

    According to the Page 56, 57, 61 of digitalpubsuite_help.pdf (Last updated 10/4/2011) ,
"Change article properties" shows how to change TOC preview.
I changed the TOC previews of some Stacks and the viewer table contents on iPad shows the TOC previews I expected.
But for the HTML Stack (Import HTML article), the viewer table contents on iPad shows the thumbnail of HTML content (not the TOC previews).
I confirmed on TOC Preview of Folio Builder and Dashboard of DPS,
TOC preview for "Import HTML articles" appears correctly.
    What am I wrong?

  • How can I batch compress images on import

    Hi All,
This might not be the right place for this question; if so, apologies in advance.
Since moving 100% to mac, I've been experiencing a workflow problem, and I can't seem to find anything in iPhoto or Automator to help me out.
My camera takes JPG photos with a fixed file size. That is, all of the images are exactly the same file size, no matter what the image is of. It turns out that this is a huge waste of disk space. To get around this on my windows machine, I used to do the following:
    1. Import images to temp folder on my computer.
    2. Use irfanview to batch save all of the images to a different folder, with 90% jpg compression.
    3. Import the resulting files into Picassa.
Doing this would sometimes reduce an image size from the default 4mb to as small as 300kb (average about 800-1200 kb), and made a really big difference to my disk space.
I would like to find something similar on my Mac, but I've been unable to.
All I want to do is to open each image and save it with a predetermined level of compression. And, I'd like to do this either to the photos that are already imported into iPhoto, or to photos before they are imported.
I thought that automator might be able to help, but I cannot find a simple 'save with XX compression' command anywhere (although I can find tasks to import photos to the computer, and then to iPhoto, so it's mostly there).
I can't find any functionality within iPhoto itself to handle this problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You do know that when you compress the jpgs to the 90% level you're reducing the image quality of the file considerably, right? That being said, the only way to do what you want is what you did on the darkside, compress before importing into iPhoto.
There are some resizing apps than you can set to just compress the quality level and leave the pixel dimension alone. Renamer4Mac is one. You can find more by searching at VersionTracker.com for "resize".
What with the large HDs that come in the Macs and the availability of large, inexpensive external HDs, resizing before importing into iPhoto is considered by many to be penny wise but pound foolish.

  • Suggestions how to resize/compress images to be stored in a DB?

    Hi,
Powerbuilder 11.5.1 application running on SQL Anywhere 11 DB
We are investigating possibilities to store images relating to rows in our table, we will probably do it as suggested, using Long Binary data type.
However, what would be really neat is if we had a way of resizing (cropping if needed) each image to a specific width / height in pixels, and also, just in case that these images were taken with a very large resolution, compress them down (photo quality not that important) to, say, 200kb-300kb at most. This would have to be done at the powerbuilder application level, when the user selects the image(s) to store.
Any ideas or guides on what is the best way to achieve this? There doesn't seem to be anything native in the libraries, does anyone know of any PB tools written that could accomplish this?
    Cheers

    Hi all,
some year ago  i published the following article on ISUG :

  • Safari can not upload images newly imported into iPhoto. I have to shutdown iphoto and safari before the latest import of images into iPhoto is found my safari.

When I want to upload images to facebook on safari - from a NEWLY imported album in iPhoto - Safari can not find the new album in iPhoto. Obviously the most commonly uploaded images are the recent ones. I am uploading them to a facebook page, not my own account - which is not possible from iphoto. So I have to shutdown safari and iphoto and then do the upload again. This has happened me three times now - and - well - its one of those annoying things that windows 95 could have done and super safari can't .... could apple sort this out sometime. Please.

You'll not get a rebuttal from me. I still run into Wizard of Oz moments.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Compress image in keynote for iOS

how do i compress image in keynote for iOS? anyone has any idea?
i have added a few image taken from my new iPad and the keynote became such large file size that iCloud takes ages to upload. Hence i am looking for ways to compress each image in every slide to a lower resolution so as i could email my keynote to my colleagues too.
Anyone knows the how to or workaround?

I think I just found out what is wrong with the file sizes of KeyNote for iOS. In the Mac version of this app, there is a preference setting called "Copy theme images into document" which if checked includes about 7 MB of images for every theme used in the presentation(!). Normally this setting is kept off (thank god). However, in the iOS version of KeyNote, there is no such setting. Instead, that function is always ON(!!!). This means that every time you create a presentation in there, or edit one from the Mac version, it will grow by N times 7 MB, where N is the number of themes used in your presentation. Now, if you store your presentations on iCloud — like a good user should — then every single file will be sure to explode in size. And consequently take forever to upload and download from the cloud  :-(
    Any solution, anybody?

  • Copying images with import

i  store all my raw images on a hard drive before importing  into lr4.  Do I have to let lr copy all the images as part of the import process?  I don't see any way to not copy images when importing.
this really slows the import process when using 100's of raw nikon images.
can I delete the copies that lr makes
I guess that the catalog files are independent of the copy files since I use the location of my original raw files.

  • How does the TIFF format compress images?

When we choose "File> Save As" to save an image to a TIFF file, a TIFF Options dialogue box appears with 4 image compression options( None, LZW, Zip, Jpeg). What is this for? Does the TIFF format compress images? Are they destructive to the image quality? THANK YOU

If you select no compression, it will take up too much space, guaranteed.  TIFF lets you pick any compression method supported by your program and the viewing program.  Some are lossy, some are lossless.  Most TIFFs tend to be compressed in LZW or ZIP, both of which are lossless.  You can also choose to compress your TIFF using JPEG compression, which is lossy, but I can't imagine why you would do this instead of simply saving as a JPEG file, which is more likely to be properly opened in browsers than a JPEG-compressed TIFF file.
And in response to one of the previous posts, not all compression throws away details from your file.  Only lossy compression (e.g., JPEG, or in the music area MP3) throws away data.  The lossless compression techniques simply encode the data in fewer bits if possible.  (One important fact not relevant to the web, where you will use 8-bit-per-channel files:  If your photos are 16-bit-per-channel, don't save in LZW compressed format; they will actually become larger than the uncompressed image.)  For a simplified example, if there is a series of 16 pixels of solid white, a losslessly compressed image will have code that says, in effect, 16 pixels of (255,255,255) using an abbreviated code instead of simply listing (255,255,255) sixteen times.  It builds up a directory of byte combinations and can use just a few bytes to refer to many bytes of image data.  Because the coding and decoding is exact, there is no change in the image data when it's opened.
JPEG is a lossy compression technique that doesn't actually record pixel values at all.  It uses formulas to specify averages and changes within regions.  In effect, it records the fact that a given group of pixels has values centered on X color, and that the upper left is much pinker and the lower right is much greener than the average.  When you pick the degree of quality for JPEG compression, you tell it how small to make the comparison cells.  As you can imagine, if the image has text, tree branches, or other highly contrasty subject matter, this will cause serious weirdness if the comparison cells aren't very small (i.e., you don't have the quality set to max).

  • How do I find images in LR 2.4 (imported from CS4 Bridge) that have color labels already assigned In CS4 Bridge? I have set both Bridge and LR color labels text to match (eg Green for green, etc).

How do you find images in LR 2.4 that have been imported from CS4 Bridge and have been assigned a color label in Bridge?  I have set both LR 2.4 and my CS4 Bridge to match the text for each color to be the same (eg. Green for green, etc), and the filter search in LR 2.4 shows that a label has been assigned, but I am unable to identify and locate the specific images in LR 2.4 that have had a color label assigned from CS4 Bridge.  I have tried to search via attribute, metadata, text, etc...Is it necessary to re-assign color labels all over again, image by image, in LR 2.4, or is there a way to automatically have the color labels assigned in CS4 Bridge be assigned and searchable to the images after they have been imported into the LR 2.4 catalogue from the Bridge program?

    JohnM.
I closed both programs and re-imported photos and re-tried the action of having LR  read the XMP metadata from the CS4 files, and it seems to work now just fine...don't know why now and not before, but thanks much. Is there a way to have LR do this automatically upon import of images from CS4?  I tried to do this with an import metadata preset, but no luck.  It seems as if I can only do this once the images have already been imported into LR, and then to have to have LR read the metadata from the CS4 Bridge files.  thanks gain.

  • HT2493 How to change preview image of a file and NOT the icon ?

    Hello dear Mac users
How to change preview image of a file and NOT the icon ?
I know how to change the icon of a file, but I wish to know how to change the preview of any file.
For example: my file is "mysong.aif", I changed the icon to be "mylogo.png" using cmd+i, cmd+v on the icon. But the preview of the file still remain the same.
I know it can be changed using iTunes, but I don't want to import all my files in iTune, and iTune cannot import all type of files.
I hope someone will understand my needs...
    Thanks!

How can I "tag" my MP3 without going thru iTunes ? Is it possible to do it dirrectly in the Finder ? Is there other type of files that can include such tags ?
Thank you for answering my question , wich I have to admit may seem useless, but I wish I could put something like a signature logo on each of the different file I produce (as AIF for music and MP4 for video clip) instead of that generic black box with a note on it, and by the meantime keeping a different icon for all of them in order to illustrate theire content.

  • How do i delete images from camera after importing

how do i delete images from camera, ipad, iphone after importing the files into aperture3?

Image capture will allow you to delete from the device after import, but I believe it is by design that Aperture does not do this as it is recommended (in the case of a camera) to use a device's own delete function rather than a 3rd party like Aperture. This also allows time for a proper backup before everything is erased from the device?

  • How do you stop adjustments to the image when importing pictures?

When I import pictures into Lightroom 1.1 they all automatically get adjusted to be much brighter. How do I stop this? The DEVELOP SETTINGS DIALOG in the IMPORT PHOTOS pop up box is set to NONE. I don't think it's a color management issue as the images are imported with a normal brightness/color balance and then get their settings changed one by one. Opening an image in Photoshop CS3 with the EDIT A COPY WITH LIGHTROOM ADJUSTMENTS radio selected opens up the modified brightened image. Opening that same image in Photoshop CS3 with the EDIT ORIGINAL radio selected opens a normal image with correct brightness/color balance.
This is driving me mad! I don't want these adjustments. Please help!

It's not turned on by default, that I know of. Somehow, yours got that way.
As to where it's located, I would like the preferences to be distributed around the application rather than concentrated in one place. I agree with you that this one should be in the import dialog.
