How to not create a desktop icon in AIR installation

Hi, because AIR cannot launch a local .EXE, I need to have a non-AIR .exe do some things and then call the AIR app. Problem is that the AIR installation also creates an icon on the desktop which is confusing to the end users and often times they click the AIR icon directly as opposed to the non-AIR .exe which calls the AIR .exe.
My questions is:
1. Is there a way for just windows, to have the AIR installation not create the icon on the desktop but still create icons for MAC and LINUX.
2. If not, then is there a way to have the AIR installation not create the icons for all cases and then I'd just need to manage different project files: one for Windows and one for Mac/Linux
thanks

Hi,
I have the same problem for different reasons,  I'm delivering an AIR app for a customer who has a company wide policy of no desktop icons for apps installed on work machines.
The app in question fires up at Start Up so there is no need for one anyway.
So is there absolutely no way (in AIR 1.5) I can prevent Adobe AIR from placing an icon on the desktop if the user does not untick the box when installing?
Thanks
Craig

How do I create a desktop icon for Adobe create pdf?

    Hi, ken.
You can access ExportPDF from your computer more quickly in three ways:
You can download and install the CreatePDF Desktop Application. More info is here. With this application, you can drag PDF files onto a desktop icon and have those converted to Office files. (If you subscribe to the CreatePDF service, this application will also allow you to create PDF files.)
You can download and install the newest Adobe Reader and access the service using Reader's Tools Pane on right. Then, any time you have PDF open in Reader, you can (with a couple of clicks) convert that PDF to an Office file.
You can drag the webpage icon from your browser to your desktop. This will create a shortcut to the ExportPDF website on your desktop. Here are some instructions for doing that using Internet Explorer or Firefox.
Let us know if you have additional questions or issues.

  • How does Adobe create a desktop icon when I open a web pdf document, and how can I get it to stop?

I am finding a host of pdf file icons cluttering up the desktop when I exit the Web after researching a topic. I have saved some files with the 'save as' feature, but there is nothing else I have done.
I have looked through the usual properties, options looking for clues for this automatic program, to choose a different one... and have yet to find anything indicating this program or process.
How is this happening and how can I stop it?
    Thank you!

Thanks for your interest in helping- This system has Firefox (whatever is recent) , Windows 7 Professional, Adobe Reader XI.
While on the Web, I have opened, perused, then saved docs to file using 'save as' option in the browser; and on closing the browser, I see numbers of pdf shortcuts on the desktop.
Also, this kind of thing has occurred inconsistently, so there has been nothing "usual" in my actions to which I can attribute these icons.
Sorry - I delete them and clean out the recycle bin, or I'd be able to tell you whether these were shortcuts or the actual files. I'm trying to resurrect the image in my mind, and I believe they may have been the docs, not simply shortcuts...
    Thank you for your time!

    Question
When trying to create a desktop icon, it does not go to the URL.....instead I get 'script' and not a website......the script has http//etc but I am not directed to the website......I previously had IE 8 (on Vista).....is that the problem?I do not have any installed plugins....at least none that I know of.....remember I am a new user......Basically, the desktop icon is not going directly to the Mozilla FF to get me to the web site I need to go to.....FF works when I use the Mozilla FF icon.....just not the icons I create.....THANKS!!! I have also tried reinstalling FF and get the same results.....HELP!!!

The address beginning with file:/// denotes a saved file (local file). The file may not be present. You can try dragging the site icon of this page on the left edge of the location (Address) bar and release it on the desktop. Please try opening it. If it still shows an error it could be a problem with the system's zone permissions. You can try setting each zone in the Windows Control Panel or IE > '''Internet Options''' > '''Security''' tab to '''Default Level'''.

  • How do I change the desktop Icon for an external hard drive?  I have gone to "Get Info" and tried dragging and dropping  several formats of pictures and the icon changes to the generic image of that file type.

how can I change the desktop icon for an external hard drive.  Using LaCies and Dimple hard drives.

One of the things I've found with OS X (at least with Snow Leopard, which is my first excursion into OS X), is that all too often the thumbnail displayed on a file, whether a file created or one downloaded, is a false thumbnail. That is, when you do a Get Info on the file the icon in the upper left is the generic icon for that file type, rather than the thumbnail displayed in Finder. Makes it a bit difficult to copy.
Apparently Finder uses Preview in the background to generate the displayed thumbnail without actually creating one.
What I've resorted to doing, particularly with graphic images, is to process them with GraphicConverter - I have its prefs set to automatially add thumbnails and previews. With an individual file this means opening it in GC and doing a Save As. However, a much easier and faster way is when there are two or more such files; I put them in a common folder and drop the folder onto GC. GC then opens them in a catalog view, in the process adding real thumbnails and previews to each automatically. Doesn't take long to do several hundred files that way.

  • Update framework always creates new desktop icon

I'm using the AIR update framework (ApplicationUpdaterUI),
and whenever the user updates the application, a new desktop icon
gets created (overwriting any existing desktop icon there). Is
there a way to suppress this behaviour, or can someone suggest a
    workaround?
    Here's the situation:
Our AIR app uses a separate bootstrapping application to
launch some services before the AIR application launches, so it's
important that the user does not run the AIR executable themselves.
Our installer creates a desktop icon that points to the
bootstrapping executable. When the user updates the application, it
replaces our desktop icon with the AIR shortcut.
    Thanks!

  • Create custom desktop icon

How do I create a desktop app for a web address in iOS 6 on my iPad or iPhone?

In mobile safari, go to the web page you want.  Then tap the small icon at bottom of screen that has a curved arrow coming out of a box.  Choose "Add to Home Screen".  That places an icon on the "desktop" that invokes safari and goes to that web page when the icon is tapped.

  • HT2493 How do I change my desktop icon photo?

How do I change my desktop icon photo? For example, I have an icon link to a website on my desktop and the icon photo is the Safari logo, however I would like to personalize the photo.

Have you tried using "Get Info" for the link icon? Once the Get Info window is open, you should be able to paste a new icon in there provided you have already copied the icon you want.

  • Firefox V37.01 is not creating a shortcut icon on Desktop only a default icon

This make life difficult identifying urls

Hi, try this: Right click on the Desktop icon > Delete. Now open the Start Menu > All Programs, right click on Mozilla Firefox > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut). There should now be a Firefox icon on the Desktop.

  • How do I create a desktop shortcut to an application in Mac OS 9?

For example I have installed the original command and conquer (Blast from the past!) how do I get the application icon to the desktop as a 'shortcut'?

You can also hold down both the Command and Option keys, and while keeping them held down drag the icon of the game out to the desktop. When you release the mouse, an alias (shortcut) to the game will be created where you let go.
One advantage to this method is that the resulting alias will not have the word "alias" appended to it (unless you initially drop it in the same folder as the original).

  • How do I create multiple desktops in 10.8.2 Mission Control?

I've been given to understand that in 10.8.2, Mission Control allows for up to 6 desktops.  If this is true, how does one create and maintain them?  I can't find documentation anywere--or am I just on a wild goose chase?
    Thanks...

I'm not sure what the limit is, but it's a lot more than six.
Move the cursor to the right of the rightmost desktop. A dark "+" (plus) icon will appear.
    Click it!
