How to not verify discs after burning

I love OS X, because it comes with many features built right into Finder - and CD/DVD Burning as one of them. I would use it, however, if I hadn't verify every disc I burn with it. Is it possible to turn this annoying feature off?
P.S. Also, what are the benefits of verifying burned discs?

Because so many optical disks have a fairly high failure rate, verifying is the best way to ensure the disk will stay a reliable storage medium for future use. If I'm storing thousands of MP3's on a DVD, I want it to work a year later. By not verifying, you take the chance of having a nice coaster for your troubles instead of the data you thought you were storing.
Your mileage may vary
For me, verifying is part of the adventure of burning a disc.

  • Menu audio will play during preview but not when disc is burned.

    Encore CS6.
Menu music plays fine in preview. I know that the file is good. No menu audio after disc is burned. Have tried several different transcoding options. There is menu video too that is working fine.

Here are notes I couldn't find before I posted that; just general re testing methods:
Mounting an iso (or building to a folder) is a great way to test.  There are some differences, but it is a great method prior to burning to a disk.  The main difference is simply computer vs dvd player - autoactivate on a button doesn't work with a mouseover, and you can be fooled into thinking your navigation does, or does not, work.  (Even on the computer, don't use the mouse for testing, use the "remote" in the player controls.)
Encore preview is an emulator, like computer DVD players, that attempts to predict what will happen when a disk is played on a set top DVD player. It has always had issues with some predictions not being accurate. Some inaccuracies are like this one: Encore preview does not work, and a burned disk will. Others are the opposite; it works in Encore preview, and not in a DVD player. The point to be made here is that you cannot rely on Encore preview. You also cannot rely on computer playback of a built image or folder. And, in the end, you cannot rely on playback on one DVD player - some disks work on some players and not on others.

Recovery partition is meant to be used on a working system, it can however be used in a different manner but is difficult for most people unless you are a computer geek of sorts.
See this thread on how someone used the files from the restore partition to recover to a new hard drive, you would need another working Windows PC to do this.

If you call HP on the phone they can verify for sure if they have the recovery discs or not.

  • Burner Not Reading Discs to Burn

I've been using my burner pretty regularly for several months: music CDs, data CDs, movie DVDs and data DVDs. Suddenly, this morning, it stopped recognizing media I put in to burn. iTunes never gets past "Checking Media" after I insert a blank CD and when I try to burn data through the Finder, the "Insert CD" prompt never goes away. However, if I insert a CD with data or music on it, the computer recognizes the disc just fine.
Any ideas for diagnostic or repair? Does this seem like a hardware issue, as I suspect? Or could it be software? Is there any easy way to look into this without involving Apple? (and losing my computer for a week or two...)
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

"I've been using my burner pretty regularly for several months:"
Have you been repairing permissions after your burning sessions?
Have you tried different disc brands?
Make sure your CDs & DVDs are not scratched, dirty, smudged, etc.

Your drive may need cleaning. You can purchase cleaning kits from any store that sells CD/DVDs.
Have you checked the OS Help Menu for any troubleshooting suggestions?
What makes you think you have a hardware issue? Did you run the Hardware Test CD? If so, the results of the test?

If your computer is still under warranty and/or you have AppleCare, letting Apple take care of your issues and/or problems is the easiest way.

  • Ps4 Not reading discs after waking up from rest mode

I'm having a really weird issue with my PS4, it seemed to have started after the 2.50 update.
It's happened about twice and is starting to make me think something might be wrong with my disc drive, which I certainly hope isn't the case since it had no issues before.
The issue is pretty much described in the subject. Rarely, but enough to be an annoyance, when I start my ps4 from rest mode and change discs, the disc won't read. I've sat waiting a while and nothing happens.
I try cleaning the disc and all that but it doesn't fix the problem, the only way to fix it is to turn off or reset the console.
Any ideas? Hoping its a software issue, as like I said, it only started AFTER the 2.50 update. It's done it on 2.51 already. EDIT: I've seem to be able to replicate it, when the console is in rest mode and I swipe on the disc button and it starts up, it doesn't read the disc, but after waiting a couple of mins it seems to be reading the disc.

This problem started after the 2.51 update for me. It will read old discs but not the two new ones I've bought ( and replaced after ps told me it was the discs). The only thing that fixes it ( and only temporarily ) is to go into safe mode and reinstall the update. After that it reads the disc but only for a bit, eventually it just stops running and tells you to check the disc. As I said these are brand new discs. The last thing I was told to try by PS was to go online and load system software on to a jump drive and try to reinstall whole system. Unfortunately I will first have to download all profiles games onto jump drives, unless you pay for PSplus. NIf anyone out there no of a better way to do this, or if there is a way to go back to the system before the 2.51 update, please let me know?

  • Files not showing up after burn

    hi,
I just burned a file folder on a dvd and when i reinsert the dvd back into the computer, no underlying files show up. I checked with disk utility and it showes the number of files and the total size of the disk. It also "verifies" it. I took the disk over to my pc and the files show up there. Any ideas?
    thanks

verbatim - the strangest thing. i dragged the folder on my dvd to desktop and burned another dvd, this time selected the files in the folder, as opposed to the folder itself. and now it worked.

It would be best to get the music onto the new computer as that would make syncing up with the computer much easier.

  • Discs burn but do not verify...

Lately, on my powerbook when I burn discs I have them go through the "Burning" phase and then into the "Verifying" phase the disc is spit out.
At that time, an error comes on the screen saying [something to the effect of] that it could not verify and should be discarded. I have tried many discs, by many manufacturers and same results.
Then I put the same disc in, after the "Discard" message and the information I burned is there. Seeming without a problem.
Which leads me to ask: What is going on with this? Does the verification mode really matter? How do I get this message to never return?
I had this problem in Panther, and it continues now in Tiger
    Thanks,
    Alec

Funny thing, I ran disc warrior and this has not happened again.
Thanks Zach, for your help, If I have this situation again I will try your way, good thing I have an external. I am marking this one solved.

  • How do I verify a DVD after burn?

How do I verify a DVD after burn? I know it can be done right after the burn, but this has been burned long ago. How is it done? I need to know it will play in a DVD player all the way through. I have several DVds and dont want to watch them all...
    Thanks

Just FYI, when I first started burning DVD disks, I always did the burn verification process after the burn. It took a long time, and I wasn't sure what it was really doing. I posted a question to one of the early iDVD users here, like Leonart , Len Goff, who said he never verified and all his DVDs burned fine. So, I stopped doing it and have not had any burn failures.
For your old DVDs, follow Leonart's excellent recommendation.

  • My computer does not eject the disc after it has been burned.

I understand that my computer is supposed to automatically eject a disc after it has been burned. Mine doesn't. Instead, I hear a "Plonk," which I assume is announcing that the burning process has been completed.
First of all, is it true that the disc is supposed to be ejected after the burn has been completed? Secondly, how can I restore that function?

    Diane Wordsmith wrote:
To clarify...are you importing songs from a CD into iTunes, or are you burning songs from iTunes onto a blank CD? If it's the former, iTunes won't eject it...you'll just hear a chime or noise when it's done. If it's the latter it should eject.
For the second poster, it sounds you are importing. In which case, you will just hear the sound when importing is finished and you eject the CD yourself.
Just to make sure that I understand you correctly, here's what I did: Imported songs from website. They were in RealPlayer format. I then converted the song files into MP3 format, and put them into my iTunes music library. Finally, I put the songs in a New Smart Playlist, and burned them into a blank disc.
Given this situation, should I expect the disc to automatically eject when the burning is competed? If so, what do I have to do to get it to work properly?

  • How do I get around "Could not initialize disc burning engine"

I've just spent ages trying to fix "sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down.  We will attempt to save your current project"
After trying umpteen different possible solutions,  I hit upon "access McAfee Security Center and turn off the real-time virus scanning".
Phew that got me working again - now I'm trying to burn my movie, but I'm now getting "Could not initialize disc burning engine"
There's been no problems up to now, I've burnt loads of movies before, with no problems.
I've gone into device manager and disabled the DVD writer as per a couple of threads- rebooted but to no avail.  In the device manager the DVD status is "This device is working properly."
What can I do to diagnose / resolve this?  Any help would be much appreciated as I'm getting somewhat frustrated now having had two problems on the trot.
    A bit of extra info:-
My C drive has 287Gb capacity, with 39.6Gb free
I'm on Vista Service Pack 2
    4Gb RAM
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 2.26GHz 32 bit o/s
    Thanks in advance.......

"If you go to Share/to Disc/DVD and select To Folder from the drop-down menu, you will get a VIDEO_TS folder, not an MPEG."
I've tried this, but it's just sitting there at 0%
    John Smith
I've tried some of those tips you've linked to.
    I've removed Roxio
I've also gone through some of the other links which talk about removing Premiere Elements, uninstalling DVD from device manager, editting upper and lower limits from regedit, and none of this has worked for direct burn to DVD.
I've since done some archiving of files, defragmented disk, so i've now got 71Gb free.  So, that's issues with space knocked off the list.
There must be some kind of diagnostics I can run - can Adobe supply any?  It seems to be a common problem, but nobody from Adobe seems to be able to supply a decent answer
