  • How to use backup files after I reset my ipod?

I reset my ipod touch and it asks me for my boyfriend's itunes password or when I want to use my old backup files it says that my itunes password is wrong. Just was wondering if there was anything I could do to fix it? It also said when I was trying to make an account on here as well that my password is wrong, so if someone could help that would be great. Thanks Mak1121

I want to know how to create a backup file (because I'm pretty new with itunes, and it's hard to use it for me still), how to store my app data/media/videos, etc. And how I can retrieve them back when I'm done with the app I tried on my friend's computer.
If anyone can help, it'd be great! Thank you so much!

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

If you emptied the trash, you don't unless they are on your backup disk.

  • How do I backup files if can't reboot?

Volume 23 has an error msg of incorrect file number and therefore will not allow the machine to boot the OS.  I've tried repairing the disc using the disc utility.  It instructs me to backup the files and reinstall.  How can I backup files, if I can't reboot the OS to access the files?

There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • How does the backup file that I would like to use for restore now require a password

How does the backup file that I would like to use for restore now require a password, when I just Backed it up on 10/30/14

It requires a password to restore from it because at some point, you checked the box in iTunes to use encrypted backups, at which point you were prompted for, and set a password.
If you now can't remember what that was, then you can not restore from that backup.

    Any advice?

Nope.  You obviously didn't read (or didn't remember) the User Guide.  I will include a link for you.  If you use the iPhone as Apple recommends (so that you do NOT experience data loss), frequent backups are advised, as are synching contacts/calendars with an appropriate cloud service or computer-based contact manager like Outlook.

  • Unable to restore backed up files after recovery

I had to do a system recovery, and in the process backed up my files.  After recovery, I updated Microsoft and HP files, installed Norton 360, Office 2007, Outlook, and Nikon photo software.  I then tried to restore my backed up files.  Every time a User Account Control box pops ups and stating an unidentified program wants to access my computer.  I press allow, User account Control box goes away but nothing else happens.  Help!

    Hey asjhawk,
If you go into the advance backup and restore function are the database on your device and on your backup the same size?
    Also you can try this.
    Open the contact list.
Press the Menu key, then click Filter.
Clear the check box beside the category.
Let us know how you make out.

  • My mbpro would not start so re-installed (as instructed by the website) how do i recover files after i re-installed my OS?  thank you.

my 13" mbpro would not start so i followed the instructions & turned out i needed to reinstall the OS.  can i still recover my files after i erased & reinstalled?  if yes, how do i do it?  thanks.

If the system partition was erased, recovery of any files previously stored on it as identifiable entities is unlikely.
Keeping an external CarbonCopyClone of the startup disk (free download) gets you a bootable clone (with all applications installed) so you have a chance of cloning back onto the internal disk if you ever need to reformat the partition again.

  • How to restore backup files to a new database?

    Hello all,
Our database has stopped working because many config files and some control files were deleted or changed! You can see the full discussion here: ORA-01034 - Oracle not availabe
We are using Oracle 11g. We got some comprehensive backup files and some incremental ones before this failure.
Do these backup files contain config and control files too? or just contains data?
And how I can recover the database using them?
    Thanks for your help

Thank you so much for your attention.
Yes exactly, I installed oracle on my laptop and copped its control files into the database and they didn't work
1- Many backup files of level 0 and level 1. They've been created using these rman commands:
    echo database backup, level 1
    echo %DATE%
    echo %TIME%
    set datetimef=%date:~-4%_%date:~4,2%_%date:~7,2%_%time:~0,2%_%time:~3,2%_%time:~6,2%
    echo %datetimef%
    rman target / @F:\backup1.txt LOG F:\database-backup\rman-logs\%datetimef%.txt
    copy F:\database-backup\rman-logs\%datetimef%.txt F:\database-backup\rman-logs\current-log.txt
    and
    echo database backup, level 0
    echo %DATE%
    echo %TIME%
    set datetimef=%date:~-4%_%date:~4,2%_%date:~7,2%_%time:~0,2%_%time:~3,2%_%time:~6,2%
    echo %datetimef%
    rman target / @F:\backup0.txt LOG F:\database-backup\rman-logs\%datetimef%.txt
    copy F:\database-backup\rman-logs\%datetimef%.txt F:\database-backup\rman-logs\current-log.txt
What have you done before getting "Oracle not available" message?
One of group members tried to create a new database using Oracle Database Configuration Assistant and then she couldn't work with the new database (I guess she got some errors when she decided to connect to it using sqldeveloper) and then she deleted the new database using Oracle Database Configuration Assistant, and in the last part it asked her Do you want to delete everything related to the new database and she answered yes.
What have you done after getting "Oracle not available" message?
After that we get Oracle Not Available. When I tried to connect to the Oracle via SQLPlus (startup command) it told me that init file does not exist and I recreate that file and put in the right place, then checked some files located in the D:\app\Administrator\admin\iwatchdb\scripts and D:\app\Administrator\product\11.2.0\dbhome_5\NETWORK\ADMIN. Almost in all of that SID and addresses were changed and pointed to the new database, I just alter them and replaced the Yelp (the name of the new database) with iwatchdb (our main database). So the first error solved, and when I tried to start the database up it told me that control files do not exist! and I checked the address that sqlplus showd in the error and it was right! the control files were deleted from: D:\app\Administrator\oradata\iwatchdb (CONTROL01.CTL) and D:\app\Administrator\flash_recovery_area\iwatchdb (CONTROL02.CTL)
    - What is the latest error you get in the alert.log file?
do you mean this file? D:\app\Administrator\diag\rdbms\iwatchdb\iwatchdb\alert\log.xml

  • Possible to backup files before recovery?

HP Pavilion dv4-1465dx with blinking cursor on boot. Ordered and received recovery discs. Documentation provided does not mention the option to backup during start of recovery process that can be found at the bottom of this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00809678#N673. Will I be able to access the files and back them up before the actual process gets underway? Also, will I find out how much space I'll need to run out and purchase? Or is it possible to connect my desktop computer via USB and backup there?

  • Reuse old backup file  after reset?

    Hi all,
I've done 2 initial backups fine and subsequent updates to those backups, however the ip of the time machine was completely different to the range I have been using so decided to change it. Did this and nothing worked, no internet etc. So i reset the time machine and the ip is now correct, however can I tell time machine to use the existing backups on the time capsule? It looks like it's trying to create 2 new backups which is crazy as it took ages over wireless!

You can recover to the last committed transaction,
provided you have the current controlfile, archived
logs since the backup and the current online logs.
Here's the procedure in a nutshell:
    a) Restore datafiles from tape.
    b) Recover database using restored files + current
controlfiles and archived/online logs. RMAN will prompt
you for the logs it needs for recovery.
You can also perform this type of recovery using a
backup controlfile. In this case you would still need
all logs as above. After recovery, you would have to
open the database with RESETLOGS because you are using
    a backup controlfile.
If you don't want/need to recover up to the last
committed transaction, you use a backup controlfile and
perform incomplete recovery (time or change based). This
simply means that you stop the application of redo at
the time or SCN of your choice.
Most of the scenarios of interest are documented in
    the following book:

  • Can I recover lost library from Windows backup file after hard drive crash?

I'm sure this has been visited before, so I'm sorry if this is redundent.
My daughters Windows notebook had to be reformatted because of a severe virus. I had all important files including iTunes songs backed up onto portable Hard Drive. Got her notebook up and running and then restored her songs back to her computer (but not into the original location). Plugged in her iPod Mini and now it shows no files at all on the Mini and iTunes will not access or recognize the songs that I restored
Prior to the restoring she was able to listen to her complete music collection on the iPod Mini.
I still have access to the backup files either on the Hard Drive or in a separate folder from which I restored the first time. Should I completely erase the songs from the notebook now and then access the backup file?
And how do I get the Mini and iTunes to recognize the music once and for all?
Thanks for any advice, help, and suggestions.
    Tony
HP Pavilian Notebook   Windows XP   iPod Mini.

What you will do depends on if you have the "iTUnes Music Library.xml" file on backup. By default this file is stored on
    C (Or the drive windows is on)/documents and settings/............/My Documents/My Music/iTunes
If you DO have this file on backup, then you will have to set all the music to its EXACT location it was before reformatting
