How to obtain recovery media in Barbados.

I am visiting a friend in Barbados and here's the issue.
My friend has a Satellite L300D - 02Q laptop.
He was having problems and took it to a local tech.  He did not have recovery media and the local tech apparently wiped the hard drive and installed Windows 7 Ultimate.  My friend did not realize this was a problem till he started receiving messages about it being non-genuine.
The Microsoft label on the bottom of his laptop has been worn.  I can read the product key just fine, but I can no longer read what operating system it is.  I believe it is for Vista Home, but can't be sure.
I will be in Barbados till next Thursday (1 more week) and would like to help resolve this issue.
Can anyone help me determine what product this key applies to?
Is there any possibility of downloading and burning the recovery media, so there is no delay?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Please let me know if there is any other info you need.

I can read the product key just fine ... I will be in Barbados till next Thursday (1 more week)
If you want to fool around with it, Rick, you could do the following. Things work this way because Microsoft gives away Windows. It sells the product key.
1. Download the 32-bit package from the following site. Use the 32-bit (x86) English ISO: link.
Windows Vista with SP2 RTM Slipstreamed/Integrated DVD ISO Image (BT Download)
2. Install Windows Vista Home Premium clean from that DVD.
3. Activate it by phone. Wait for a human to answer. Explain the situation and give that person the OEM product key of the Windows Vista Home Premium that came with the laptop. Because you already paid for Windows, that person should give you a retail product key which you can use to activate.
4. Install the Toshiba drivers and utilities by looking up the Satellite L300D-02Q (part number PSLC8C-02Q019) at the Canadian site.

  • How to create recovery media

I have a new Satellite A665 Notebook. I´d wish to create recovery discs to have in case my hard disk crashes.
But I do not know how to do it. I can't find any recovery utility to do the job.
Can you tell me how to fulfill this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Gabriel.

I used 4 DVD-R discs. They were on sale - 25 DYNEX discs for $7.
Go to: start/all programs/my toshiba/toshiba recovery media creator
    Insert your 1st disc.
Select create and follow the prompts.
Label your discs with a disc marker - recovery disc 1,  recovery disc 2, etc. or whatever you'll remember.
store them into individual envelopes or shells and put them in a safe place.
BTW: If your hd "crashes" you'll need a new hd.

Simple instructions please - I'm new at this.

  • Obtaining recovery media for a custom build HP desktop

I have replaced my failed SSD drive in my HP Pavilion HPE that I purchased in July 2012 and am attempting to
do a system restore from a restore set that I created prior to the failure.  I start the PC with the first DVD-R disk in the drive (same drive I used to create the set), press ESC to get into the startup menu, go to Boot Menu to select the Legacy Boot Sources/ATAPI CD/DVD Drive option /SATA2 option.  The output I get is:
    "Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 083)
    COpyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v.2..1.9.9(08/12/11)
    Check cable connection!
PXE-M0F : Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed."
The disk should not report as failing.  I can read it on another computer just fine (open folders, view file properties, copy folders and files).  For a grin, I put an old XP recovery disk into the drive of the computer I am trying to restore and it was able to read that.
Be that as it may, I am attempting to order recovery disks by following the link on this page:
    http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-bph07143&sp4ts.oid=52...
That page is asking me to provide a specific model number.  I don't have one because this is a custom build.

    Hi,
Look on sides, top, back or bottom of your PC for a label containing the model and product number.  Sometimes the label might be on the inside of the removable side panel.
Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers. This will allow others to review your issue, make suggestions and review your responses. This is usually the best way to get assistance.
It appears that you are try to boot via the LAN.  That option should be disabled in the BIOS.
Check your boot device default in the BIOS and make sure that your hard drive is the default boot device.

  • How to create recovery media from HDD recovery image?

When I tried to recover a fresh Windows from HDD recovery my little son stopped the proccedure by accident.
When I tried to restart I get the message bootmgr is missing. I have a copy from HDD recovery file but din not create a recover DVD.
The question is if I can make a bootable recover DVD or USB file file from the HDD recovey file?
    Thanks!!!

There is a method to create bootable USB stick from recovery DVDs or ISO file - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD4103KB0000R01.htm but I dont think this will help you.
Problem is that such back-up is actually useless. There is also option to order original recovery installation disc. You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

    Hi,
Assuming you need to reinstall a version of Windows 7, here's an alternative ( and cost free ) option you could use.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version of Windows 7 that originally came with your notebook ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found starting Here.

  • Making recovery media in DVD

I was trying to make recovery media. It is asking for USB flash drive of 32GB. How to make recovery media in DVDs? Please response ASAP

Sometimes there are unforeseen problems. However, if you've sent it in for repairs, it sounds like they are fixing it.

  • How do I obtain product recovery media for my Satelite Pro A100?

When I purchased my A100, I was not given any product recovery media. I assumed that it would be pre - installed on a partition on my hard drive. Seems not to be the case.
I wish to resize my primary partition to enable me to install linux on the space that would then be available. Whilst Linux will do that for me, just in case there is an error, I need a copy of the product recovery media for XP and other pre-installed software. Toshiba's contact details on the site are hard to locate.
So I wondered if anyone can point me in the correct direction? I am a UK user.

    Hi
If the recovery disk was not shipped with the notebook, then you should be able to create an recovery disk using the preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.
I think you didnt read the user manual after you have received the notebook
Anyway usually the Recovery disk could be ordered here:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
But not all recovery disks would be available especially if the notebook series has been discontinued this means that you could not order a recovery disk if the notebook series is too old You could also try to contact an local ASP (service partner) in your country for a help and could try to order such disk there.
Otherwise you have to use an original MS Windows disk all needed drivers are downloadable from the Toshiba European driver page.

  • How to get a Recovery media for Satellite L305D S5900

I am a Ghanaian who bought a Toshiba laptop about seven months ago. The model is Satellite L305D S5900. I am also in Ghana. I found out from the documents that came with the laptop and your forum that I can order for Recovery media for it with no charge on the software itself.
How do I get this Recovery media for my machine as I am in a different country? What are the things involved?
    Thank You.

Your T500 can burn CD's at the least and if you can access Windows, you should be able to burn a set of recovery discs.
Other than that, I suggest calling support to see what they can do to help. The number in the U.S. is 1-800-426-7378.

  • How to create *NEW* set of Recovery Media?

    Hello -
Accidentally scratched my Recovery DVDs by leaving them in my laptop bag (ie. have external HDs, external slim DVD writer, etc...) in there. How do I re-create a *new* set of recovery media on my T61p since the option is now grey'd out?
    Thanks,
    Michel

Do you know of any place in your area that would resurface discs? There is a store thats owned by Hollywood Video called "Game Crazy" and they do that all the time think its like $2 per resurface also check out used game stores in your area and see if they have disc resurfacing capabilities.
Word of warning, Those do it yourself scratch removal kits, and products like scratch doctor or skip doctor will actually make things worse!

  • Lenovo Provides 32 bit and 64 bit versions of VISTA & 7 by recovery media for FREE BUT HOW???

    Lenovo advertises this title:
When is it possible to switch between 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Microsoft Operating Systems by using recovery media?
    In this page:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-74752.html
    BUT
Doesn’t give any info that how??? I
How do I contact a Lenovo Support Centre to place an order. Link brings you to contact numbers for Lenovo and after I call them they say these numbers are for IBM and it is only for hardware support.
I am wondering got know how on earth they accept orders for this type of complex issue by phone???
Specially that I am dealing with so special situation and I need some e-mail address to describe it Lenovo and wait for the answer...
I appreciate it if somebody could help me with this...
Thanks in advance for your help guys...

    Awesome dude,
Thanks for well described reply. I enjoyed it specially when I found out you don't work for Lenovo.
I am curious to know something. I could buy Windows 7 Bit for a very good price form Microsoft offers for university students that it probably cost me the same price as recovery media. Do you think it is a good idea to install a totally fresh windows 7 (NOT from the recovery media) on my t400s?
I am asking this because when you install operation system with provided recovery Media it builds another partition
with this name SERVICEV003 that is about 2 Gb and contains system files and stuff related to my laptop. I am afraid if I install windows without using recovery media but using Microsoft original DVDs then my laptop doesn't function properly?
What is your idea about this issue,
Thanks again for all your help, I appreciate it,
    Cheers,
    Mehrad
