How to obtain Safari Icon (Favicons) folder?

After installing OS 10.4.11 (and Safari 3.0.4) update, the Icon folder (Home/Library/Safari/Icon) is now an alias. Neither SafariSpeed nor manual trashing of the alias Icon f deletes the Favicons. Both my backups were updated before I realized the problem. I reinstalled the 10.4.11 combo update but still have an alias Icon f. The accumulating Favicons is frustrating. How does one obtain an Icon folder?

Hi,
As of Safari 3, web page icons are now stored in:
/Users/YourUsername/Library/Safari/WebpageIcons.db

The Safari icon cannot be deleted. Go to Settings > General > Restrictions, verify you didn't turn it off.
Otherwise try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout.

The folder icons are added in the node stamp of the tree table.

My Safari icon/app is missing. I How do i get it back? I try settings - general - restrictions - safari - off / on but doesn't work

First, it might be you simply put Safari in a folder somewhere. Try searching for it using Spotlight. Drag down on the screen to display the Spotlight search bar and type "Safari". If you see Safari, it is still accessible on your iPad. If not, try the following.
Reset your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears. Try again to see if the problem persists.
Finally, if that doesn't help, try turning off restrictions, then turning them back on.

One from the dock and the one on the desktop.

In Finder, select the item. Choose File > Get Info (or do ⌘I). Look under General > Kind. Does it read "Alias" or does it read "Application (Intel)"?
If the latter, then it is likely that you're not allowed to delete because it's actually open. Quit Safari. Check if there is an item called Safari in your </Applications> folder. (In Finder, you can get directly to the Applications folder using ⇧⌘A -- that's Shift-Command-A.) Check if it's an application. If it is, then you have an unneeded copy of Safari. You can delete the one on your Desktop. If there isn't, them move the one on the Desktop to the Applications folder -- that's where it belongs.

If you can't get dragging to work, just click on Safari from your Applications folder, and it should appear in the dock. Then you can right-click on the icon and PIN it permanently there.

    Thanks for the help

Often when people think they've deleted an application, what's really happened is that they deleted its icon from the Dock. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. If the application is in that folder, drag it to the Dock (not to the Desktop or anywhere else.) The other Dock icons will move out of the way to make a place for it.

  • How can I get the Safari Icon back on Screen?

MY Safari icon ( IPhone 4 S)was deleted accidentally. How can I get it back ?

Safari came with the phone and cannot be deleted.  It is there somewhere. Look for it on another screen or in a folder.  Place finger in middle of screen and swipe down to reveal search and type in safari.  Go to settings/general/reset/reset home screen layout and find safari again

You are in the iPad forum.
Open your Applications folder - find Safari in the applications, and double click on the icon in there. You may have a corrupt alias in the dock at the bottom.

  • Safari Icon moved to desktop- wont work in app. folder ?

For a long time now my Safari icon has been on my desktop in addition to the dock. I never moved it there, no one has used the computer, etc. so I have no clue as to why/how this happened. So I try and drag it back to the app. folder and authenticate. Then I try and run Safari by double clicking on the icon on the dock. It won't open- says parts are missing? Only way I could get it to run was to copy to Safari back to the desktop then drag the icon out of the app. folder and into trash. Any ideas on what is going on here and how to fix?
    Thanks !

    HI,
The Safari icon your Desktop is just an alias which means it just "points" to the Safari application. You don't need to move that icon to the Dock or the Application folder. It's just an alias, you can drag it to the Trash.
Your best bet at this point is to back up you all your important data (just in case) and perform an Archive and Install from your install disc.

  • Safari icon Pops up on the left side of the dock, how to turn it off

I'm constantly getting this icon popping up on the left side of my Dock on my iMac at work.
When clicking the Safari icon, it will open a webpage where one of my colleges is working on.
How can I turn it off because it constantly shifts the icons  on my dock to the right and when it
disappears after about 3 second everything moves again to the left. This is happening about
a couple of times a minute and it drives me crazy.

You and your colleague are both signed in to the same Apple ID account, and both using Handoff. One should sign out and sign in with a different ID.

  • Hi can you tell me how to remove the icons in safari on my iphone 4s?

Hello, I am using an iphone 4s and when I tap on the Safari icon, the screen shows sites I have visited, how to I delete these icons.  I have tried soft close - top button and home button together, in settings>safari tapped on Clear Cookies and Data - to no avail. Settings>safari>advanced and under website data I was able to delete each one, but the icon continues to appear on the screen when I tapped on the Safari app.  I was also unable to type into the search box, the app closed.  Hope someone out there can help.

    Hi
Thank you for taking the time to answer my query.  When I tap the bookmark at the bottom of the screen, it opens a screen with Allowed Sites and History when I tap either of them there is no option to delete, also there is no Favourites to tap after tapping the bookmark icon.  Each time I tap the Safari app, and try to type something into the address bar, the app closes and I am unable to access the internet although connected. Any suggestions, would resetting phone help?

I DON'T SEE FIREFOX ICONS OR FOLDER IN START MENU, DESK TOP OR TASK BAR. HOW CAN I INSTALL THOSE? OR WHERE I CAN START FIREFOX BROWSER?
How can I start or open Firefox?

    HI SBPARK,
When you installed Firefox, did you uncheck the option to create a short cut?
In order to pin to the toolbar, when you have Firefox open, right click on the icon in the bar and select "Pin to task bar".

When I click on Safari Icon it opens, but under the Desktop picture. How can I get it on top,so I could see it?

I would open a guest account and see if the problem persist in this new enviroment.
Boot into Safe Boot Mode and see if the problem is present,  this turns off third party plug-in's and extentions.
This will give us something to go on and recommend the next step.
