How to open a document created in MS Word 97 - 2004

I have several .doc files created on my old PC using MS Word 97 - 2004
My Mac (Snow Leopard) can't open them.  What software can I get to enable me to open these documents?

You can use Office 2004, 2008, 2011 on your mac to open them if you have one of those.
Alternatively the free OpenOffice or LibreOffice may be able to open them too.
You might also give TextEdit (in your /Applications) a try.  It can handle .doc files but I don't know it's limitations.

  • How to open .doc files created with microsoft word 97... when using mac os x 10.7.4?

hi!  i'm using mac os x 10.7.4 and have Office 2011.  i can no longer open older documents (.doc) created with Microsoft Word 97...  What can i do to get access to these files?
    thanks in advance!

I had too many of these that I had to convert to a modern format. It isn't easy or consistent but one of these normally works:
    1. Open up Word and use the File/Open command rather than just double clicking on the file. Why does this sometimes work? I don't know! Save in docx format.
    2. Try opening the files in Office 2010 on a Windows machine. Again, immediately save as a docx file. This works more often than the advice above.
    3. Download the free LibreOffice and try opening it there. There will be some format problems but easily fixed. Once again, save in docx format.
    4. Breakdown and look for a dedicated format converter.

Same problem here (no graphics in header or footer) and the problem has been reported months ago. It is another bug/feature lost when Apple moves from 09 to the iCloud-compatible versions.  Complain to Apple, you may have better chance than me and they may finally listen to their users....

  • How can I open a document created in Classic on MacOS X?  When I tried to open it, it says Classic Not Supported. What do I do?

How can I open a document created in Classic on MacOS X?  When I tried to open it, it says Classic Not Supported. What do I do?

    The short answer is:
Single click on the document you created in Classic, bring up your 'popup' menu (right click or control-click), select 'Open With' and choose the Mac OS X application you believe will open the document.
If this does not work. Tell us which Classic application you created the document with and which applications you have which you believe will open your 'classic' document.

iwork for ios accepts for upload and also happily opens all your Microsoft office files, from Office97 standard doc/xls/ppt to the 2011 versions of docx, xlsx, pptx and various other of these format extensions.
Notice : the upload feature in www.icloud.com is only active if you in fact own these apps on your iPhone/Pad/pod. it is not a feature of iWork for the Mac ( iwork09 ) which itself is not icloud capable at all.

  • How to open a file created at the server through form/report at client end

How to open a file created at the server through form/report at client end
    Dear Sir/Madame,
I am creating a exception report at the server-end using utl file utility. I want to display this report at the client end. A user doesn't have any access to server. Will u please write me the solution and oblige me.
    Thanks
    Rajesh Jain

One way of doing this is to write a PL/SQL procedure that uses UTL_FILE to read the file and DBMS_OUTPUT to display the contents to the users.
    Cheers, APC

  • When I try to open a document created in Pages, I get an error message saying "[Document Name" can't be opened."  I don't want to lose hours of work; has anyone else encountered this?

When I try to open a document created in Pages, I get an error message saying "[Document Name" can't be opened."  I don't want to lose hours of work; has anyone else encountered this?

A few general trouble shooting tips that may apply here:
    1. If you used Software Update to do the OS update(s) to reach 10.6.7, go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/ and download and apply the Mac OS v10.6.7 Combo Updater. The Combo Updater contains some fixes that were not included in the incremental updaters used by Software Update.
1a. Check that you have the current version of Pages (and of the other iWork applications) installed. All three applications' current version numbers end in .0.5
    2. A common cause of malfunctioning applications is a corrupted preferences file (.plist file). Your Pages '09's plist is at yourname > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iWork.pages.plist
Quit Pages, locate the file and Drag it to the Desktop (or to the Trash).
Restart Pages and attempt to open one of the files.
If all is well, Trash the plist file and empty the Trash.
If there's no change, AND you've made changes to the Preferences that you wish to keep, drag the file back to its previous location, replacing any new one that has been created.

  • How to open iCloud documents with ios8

    hi,
i recently updated my iPad to ios8. and when it asked me to install iCloud drive i said yes.
Now when i open pages on my iPad, there are no documents.
when i go to iCloud.com on my mac i can see those documents, so they still exist.
how can i open my 'iCloud'  documents on pages on my iPad?
most forums say i need to install the beta version of os yosemite, whom installation is not working those days.
the only thing i can do was to open a document on iCloud.com on my mac and send it to me via email. from my iPad i could read that email and open the document in pages. But this work only with small documents, a document bigger than 20 Mo, cannot be sent via email ( i'm using gmail)

You cannot open it on Windows Vista. The only application in the world that opens a Pages document is Pages, and it is Mac OS X only.
    Your options:
    1. Find a Mac with Pages installed, and save the document as doc or pdf, which you can open on Vista.
    or, if that is impossible,
    2. Open the files in a texteditor like Notepad.exe on Windows and try to piece text fragments together to get at least part of your original text back. The images should also be available somewhere, even though all formatting is gone.

There are a couple ways you can do this, here's one:
    1. On the Windows 8 Start screen, move your mouse to the bottom left corner of the screen.
    2. Right-click in the corner, and a menu should appear. Click File Explorer.
    3. The Computer window appears on the Windows desktop. Click the file location from the navigation panel on the left. (Example: If the file you're looking for is in the Documents folder, click Documents, and browse to the desired file.)
I hope this helps. If have further questions please let us know!

Can InDesign 6 open a document created in InDesign 4?

I have opened CS3 files without issue, so CS4 files shoudn't be a problem. If you are using CS6 or CC and you want to save a file to open in CS4, save the file as an .idml file. See here http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/save-indesign-files-previous-versions.html for more information.

  • Opening a document encrypted in Microsoft Word

I am in a job where I need to be able to easily send and open documents that have been encrypted, but most of my colleagues use Word to create to create their documents. I've figured out how to encrypt a pages document and send it, but I still can't figure out how to open a document that was created and encrypted in Word. When I try to open it, I get a message that says "The Word document is password protected and can't be imported" but doesn't give me an opportunity to enter the password. Any clues as to how I can access these encrypted files?

OpenOffice. NeoOffice. There may be others.
(I take this from memory, as I'm on Windows right now. There may be some restrictions with versions of Word encryption. Or perhaps you can only save to encrypted documents but not open. Well, we can try it out.)
