How to open a docx document in pages

I can't open a docx docment in pages.

Hi karelV,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Pages '09 can open docx files. More information will help. What happens if you double-click on the docx file in Finder? What happens if you try to open a docx within Pages (File > Open). What version of Pages are you using? The latest version of Pages'09 is 4.3 (1048).
Your profile shows Mac OS X 10.6.8. Is this correct?
Regards,
Ian.

How can I open a Word document using Pages 09 please? I am trying to open Word documents from a CD using both trying to open in Pages, nd dragging and dropping into the Pages icon in the dock. It tells me, every time, thast the document cannot be opened.

What happens if you open it in TextEdit or LibreOffice [free]?
Does it open where you got it from?

  • How do you open a .cwk document in pages?

How do you open a .cwk (the old Apple word processing program) document in Pages?

If it's an AppleWorks 6 document, Pages 4.3 will open it. It won't open older AppleWorks documents, and Pages 5 won't open those.

  • How do i save my document on pages so that i can open it on other computers

How do I sav emy document on pages so that i can open it on other computers?

Well, that was the short answer, then I rethought your question.
Will the “other computers,” be Mac, or a mixture of Mac, Windows PC, and possibly Linux?
What application on the other computers will be accessing the Pages content created on your MacBook Pro?
Using the File export options I originally mentioned, you could save the files to iCloud. Then on the other computer, you use the web browser to sign into your iCloud account. When you click the iWork icon, the files that you saved from your MBP will be there. You can then right-click on the file you want and a download option exists.

  • Opening a Word Document in Pages - floating objects not supported

I am trying to open a Word document in pages. It is a table of labels with artwork and text. Pages tells me that floating objects inside cells are not supported and were deleted. I've tried making them inline with text in the original document and then opening in Pages, but then I can't make them floating again. Anyone know how to do this? I really don't want to have to buy a Microsoft product!

Don't buy a M…soft product, use the free openOffice or the free neoOffice.

  • When I open a new document in Pages, the text I type is white on a white background even though the default color is black.  Can someone help?

When I open a new document in Pages, the text I type appears white instead of the default black color.  I can highlight the text, once I find it, but it will not change to anything other than a light purple.

Those are the symptoms many users ran into with an early update to Snow Leopard that never was fixed in the updates available through Software Update & not having the iWork apps updated. The problem was not whether or not your system is the current version but how it got there. You must use the combo updater, not the one from Software Update unless it specifically states it is the combo. Software Update will only offer the combo if your system is two or more versions behind. Now that you're running Lion, this generally isn't a problem.
But making sure the iWork apps are updated is essential. If you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

How can I save my document from pages to a flash drive?

Locate the file on your Mac, plug in the USB stick (the mac should prompt you to open it, or do this automatically), click and drag the file from the computer (wherever it's saved to) to the USB folder. That's just putting an already saved file there.
To save it TO your USB stick, find it in the Save To diolog on the sidebar. Click it, then save it there.

I am new and I can't figure out how I can delete a document in pages. Please help

    JM,
Command-Click the filename at the top of the Pages window. In the list that pops up, click on the second item, the parent folder of the document. A finder window will open. Control-click the highlighted file and select "Move To Trash". Close the document.

  • How to open cwk on Mavericks in pages?

How to open cwk on Mavericks in pages?

Not in Pages v5. If it is a pure AppleWorks v6 word processing document (no graphics or spreadsheet embedded), then try Pages ’09 v4.3 which if installed prior to V5, will be found in /Applications/iWork ’09/Pages.app.
If the document is AppleWorks v6 and contains just Spreadsheet data, then you want Numbers from the iWork ’09 suite of Applications to open it. And if AppleWorks v6 Presentation, then Keynote per the preceding suite.
The other alternative, is the latest free (donationware if you choose) LibreOffice release. It can open some AppleWorks documents, with varying degree of fidelity to the original. LibreOffice installs everything in /Applications, and your local Library/Application Support folder, making it non-invasive and easy to uninstall if necessary. It is an alternative to MS Office.
I use LibreOffice on Mavericks when my patience with Pages hits rock bottom.

And if you are looking for a "Save As" feature after you have already saved your document (to save it as a different name), then try one of the following.
    Option 1 - File > Duplicate > File > Save > (New Name)
Option 2 - (Find the Doc) Hit Command + Spacebar, then type the name of the document in the search bar
When you see the document for which you are looking below the searchbar, Command + Click it
A new window will open. Find the document in this window. Option + Click it.
The name of the document will highlight. Start typing the new name. When done. Hit enter.

How do I get a document from Pages into mail?

Open Finder, find the file you want to email, right click on it, choose Share>Mail
Alternatively, if you're already composing an email in Mail and want to add the file as an attachment, choose the attach button on the right of the new message's header and navigate to the file and select it.  You can also click on File in the menu bar of a new email you're composing and choose "Attach Files" and navigate to the desired file.

THis is safe for Mac's? Sorry, I have just never heard of this site before.
And there are literally tens of thousands of sites of which I've not heard, too. Not this one.
It's legit. There are lots of links in Apple Support Communities to the LibreOffice web site, as well as others that are legitimate open-source developers of options to buying MS Office, such as NeoOffice and OpenOffice. I have Open Office installed on one of my older Macs that can't run Office 2011 and it is rock-solid.
I've been here too long to start posting bogus urls now.
