How to open a Sony NEX-5N .ARW in CS3?? camera-raw ext.4.6 is installed..

I cannot open a Sony NEX-5N .ARW file in CS3, and I have the latest camera extension installed. I really want to ope the RAW file, not convert it to Jpeg firt. Any Whiz having it figured out yet? Sony is not helpful at all and I suspect them to really wanting to force you tu use their much less powerfull software, which does not offer what I need (don't asl what I need please, not my question, sorry)
Cheers!

Latest CameraRaw (6.6) can not be installed in CS3 - it's incompatible.
And CameraRaw from CS3 does not understand your RAW files from new camera.
The solution would be to use free Adobe DNG Converter.
Download DNG Converter from here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows (Windows) or here http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Macintosh (Macintosh)
Then convert your proprietary ARW files (you may want to save backups) to DNG - DNG is a standart RAW format (open standard), and RAW data itself is saved untouched, just metadata is organized in a different way.
So you will keep RAW image data unmodified and will be able to edit it in any application that support DNG - there are a lot, including Photoshop.
After that you will be able to open and edit your images in CS3.
Another way is to update to CS5...

  • Opening iPhoto 8 JPG file with Photoshop CS3 Camera Raw editor

I have all my photos stored in my iPhoto 8 library. I have both RAW (CR2) and JPG images. iPhoto 8 opens the CR2 images with Photoshop Raw editor, but I want to use iPhoto to open JPG images with the Photoshop Raw editor using Camera Raw.
How do I do this without having to export JPG images and opening from Photoshop?
    Thanks!
    SP

    SP:
If you're trying to use the RAW editor on a jpg it can't be done. It will only work on the RAW file. If you are wanting to edit the RAW file from within iPHoto with CS3 then set CS3 to be the editor of choice in iPhoto's general preferences. Next go to the Advanced iPhoto preference pane and select the option "User RAW when using external editor". That will open the RAW file with Photoshop's raw editor. When you finish you MUST save the new file to the Desktop and import as a new file.
For some general info on using Photoshop with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.

This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • Sony ARW files in Camera RAW 6.2 for PSE 8

Recently I bought a new camera, a Sony A580. I made several tests in RAW (ARW-files) and found out that my PSE8 does not recognize the files and hence, does not import them into the organizer.
I started searching and installed the Adobe Camera RAW 6.2 update, and installed a Sony update for viewing ARW files in Windows Vista/7.
Now I can view the ARW files in Windows, but still cannot import them into the organizer.
Is there anybody out there who can help me importing my ARW files into the PSE8 organizer?
    Thank you in advance,
    With kind regards,
    Laurens Swarte

    Well, very clear answer.
Can you tell me where I can find information about models which are supported by Camera RAW 6.2? I've been searching everywhere but only been able to find supported camera models for Camera RAW 6.3.
Thanks a lot for your swift answer and the supplied links.

  • Photoshop CS3 Camera Raw Update: unable to open Nikon D5200 Raw files

I have a Nikon D5200, so I cannot view my raw files (.NEF) files in photoshop CS3 and I downloaded the Camera Raw 4.6 update, and installed it using the manual installation instructions found here: Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows : Camera Raw 4.6 update. After restarting photoshop and attempting to open a .NEF file, I still receive the error "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document. I have also tried previous updates (4.5 and 4.4.1) and they have also not worked. How can I fix this?

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
The D5200 is supported in Camera Raw 7.3 and later. Older versions of Camera Raw cannot read D5200 Raw files.
Raw 7.3 is only compatible with CS6, CC or CC 2014
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
So you'll never be able to open Raw D5200 files in CS3.
Why doesn’t my version of Photoshop or Lightroom support my camera?
Choices: buy CS6 or join the Cloud.
Free alternative: download the Adobe DNG converter, convert all D5200 Raw files to DNGs then open the DNGs in CS3

I have just purchased a Canon 7d Mk2 but the raw files will not open in Cs5 and downloads of Adobe Camera Raw 8.7 will not install. What can I do?

Alternatively, install & use RawTherapee instead to develop your raw files instead (free and open source).

  • Opening a smart object (photoshop cc layer) in camera RAW?

Opening a smart object (photoshop cc layer) in camera RAW? I have opened a processed RAW file from lightroom into photoshop cc, then done various processing and created a merged layer. I've then convered this layer to smart object (it displays the smart object layer icon). When I double-click this layer thumbnail it opens up in a seperate photoshop tab and I want to go back to RAW. I've tried this on various files and I can't seem to reopen smart objects back in RAW. I have file handling preferences set to "prefer adobe camera raw for supported raw files" and have done a fair amount of 'googling' but not getting anywhere. Thanks for any help

Try the Filter menu item then select Camera Raw Filter. it should then open in ACR for further editing. No it is not the RAW image but the smart object you have.

  • How do I get the 7.3 plug in for Camera Raw for PSC6?

How do I get the 7.3 plug in for Camera Raw to be used with the Canon Powershot G15 for PSCS6?

Normally you should just have to do Help - Updates from Photoshop's menus to get the latest Camera Raw (and all other updates).
Is this not working for you?

  • Sony NEX 5T ARW ICO Elements 11 and LR 4.4

I have a Sony NEX 5T. Neither Elements 11 nor LR 4.4 will open the ARW files. What are my options?

    Hi,
The NEX-5T requires Camera Raw 8.2 which is not compatible with Photoshop Elements 11.
If you are running on XP or Vista, about your only option would be to download the Adobe DNG Converter 8.3
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694
If you are on another operating system, then you can
    1) Buy Photoshop Elements 12
    2) Use the latest Adobe DNG Converter 8.4
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5739
    MAC: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5738
    3) Buy the upgrade LR to version 5.4.

  • Sony NEX-5R ARW

I recently bought a Sony NEX-5R but Aperure can´t view the RAW-files (.ARW). I know ARW is different for each camera, and the NEX-5R is new on the market, so I wonder if anyone know if Aperture supports it yet, or if the problem is on my local machine?
I have tried delete my Aperure-app and install it again (Mac App store), updated the latest version but still the same problem.

According to the supported RAW cameras list, the NEX-5R is not supported. Since this is a user-to-user forum, we don't know when or if it will be supported, only Apple does.

  • Update ETA for Sony Nex C3 .ARW to .DNG in Lightroom?

Hello, I own a Sony Nex C3 and would love to be able to use it's raw files in Lightroom. I have the latest version 3.4.1. I have the Adobe raw converter 6.4.1.
After reading these forums and scouring the net it looks like lightroom supports the Nex 3 and Nex 5 now but not the Nex C3 that I have. I understand the Nex C3 is new and it appears though that all the Nex cameras share the same .arw (raw) file, lightroom needs to accept the camera model. I wish the raw file was a common format across all cameras (I believe adobe wants this too:) but heres to hoping.
Anyone have an idea when this will work with Lightroom? Also anyone else have my camera and know a way to convert the .arw files to .dng to import them into lightroom? I own several picture software including Photshop Elements but Lightroom is so nice to use, dont want to go anywhere else!
    Thanks for your time!

Although the file extensions for the different camera models is the same (.arw), there are differences in the raw files between camera models. For this reason, ACR has to support them all individually.
Also anyone else have my camera and know a way to convert the .arw files to .dng to import them into lightroom?
Your best bet at the moment is to convert your Raws to TIFF in the Sony proprietory software and import the TIFFs into LR. Keep the Raws though, as LR will eventually support them and you still can re-import the most important ones then.

Photoshop Elements won't help you, as the CameraRaw Plugin for ACR supports the same cameras as LR and new releases come out at the same time. The same goes for the Adobe DNG converter.

  • Sony Nex 6 ARW files

    Hello,
I have been trying to open the above files in PS CS5 and get a message that ACR doesn't recognize the files.
I downloaded the applicable DNG converter for ACR version that I have and it still won't open the files.
    Can you pls advise.
    Tali

    See...

Your camera requires ACR v7.2  (Photoshop CS6)
You would need the DNG convertor.

    Good Evenning!
I would like to open .NEF files with Adobe Photoshop CS10 (RAW for Nikon D5200) but my version of Camera Raw is too old.
I need at least the 7.3 version.
When I try to download it, I have this message: Please use the update mechanism in Photoshop CS10 for Camera Raw. But how?? When I go to "Help" tab, to "Updates", it says that no update available.
    Can please someone help me?
    Thanks a lot!!
    Kinds Regards

Which version of photoshop or photoshop elements are you using?
    Which operating system?
There is no such version as cs10.
Do you mean photoshop shop elements 10?
If you go to Help>About Photoshop Elements (windows) or Photoshop Elements Editor>About Photoshop Elements (mac), that should tell you which version you have.

  • Recovered files open in Bridge but not in PS4 or Camera Raw

My Canon T1i failed with dozens of images on the SD card.  I used DiskInternals Partition Recovery to recover the files from the SD card.  Many of the CR2 images show up fine in Bridge CS4, both the Content thumbnail and the Preview screen. (Screen shot 1)    However, when I try to open them in either Camera Raw or PS4, most of images either do not open or only some sections of the image appear.  For example, if you divided the image into 9 equal rectangular segments -  1, 2 or 3 may be visible, but the other are blank. (Screen shot 2)
Does anyone have an idea of how to recover the files?

    MizzouTiger71 wrote:
These are Canon Raw files (.CR2) - I do not think I have any other software that will open them other than Camera Raw and PS4.
How about the Cannon software that came with camera?  Or one you can download from Cannon.
