How to open and edit a DVD?

I have two DVDs of a family event sent by two different people. DVDs made on domestic video recorders. I want to take out some stretches and edit the remaining pieces together. Could someone please take me by the hand and gently lead me through the process? Will I need (or is the job better done with) specific software, or can it be done using iDVD or iMovie? Grateful for any help. Terry

note: due to high compression on DVDs, don't expect wonders in pic quality

  • How to open and edit CRP files?

    Hi,
    at my workplace I see the following folders:
    C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\Asset Management\bin\UsageLogs
    In this folder I see secret files like: 20090115.CRP and 20090115-web.CRP
    Each days ZenWorks create this 2 files.
    How can I open and edit it? Which software have to install at home for check it? I'm interested in very much what contain this files...

    Those files would be software usage metering files. There is no software to the best of my knowledge that opens those files. They are loaded automatically by the collection server into the database.

  • How to open and edit "*.txt" file with "Notepad"

    Hello guys!
    I'm facing problem with SharePoint 2010 Enterprise and got no clue how to solve it.
    What I want to do is to open "*.txt" (which is placed to "Documents Library") in "Notepad", so I could edit it and save (publish) directly to SharePoint from "Notepad".
    If I upload any Microsoft office File, such as "*.docx", "*.xls", etc - it works as it should - document opens in appropriate application and everybody is happy.
    But, when I create documents library, put some "*.txt" file there and click on it - it opens in new browser's tab as text, so I cannot edit the file.
    What I tried to do is to activate feature "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" - not happy.
    Edit "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\XML\DOCICON.XML" - I've modified "txt" entry as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <DocIcons>
        <ByProgID>
        </ByProgID>
        <ByExtension>
    <Mapping Key="txt" Value="ictxt.gif" EditText="Notepad" OpenControl="SharePoint.OpenDocuments"/>
        </ByExtension>
        <Default>
            <Mapping Value="icgen.gif"/>
        </Default>
    </DocIcons>
    Still not happy.
    So, how do I make this stuff work?

  • How to open and edit a VBscript file?

    Hi,
    I'm fairly proficient with Dreamweaver CS3.  However, i'm finding one aspect of CS4 to be baffling to the extreme.
    I work with VBScript files.  When I open up a script file that includes other script files, the name of the parent file is seen on a tab (with an x to the right of it).  Below it are tabs for all of the files that are included (via an include statement in the code).  That's nice.
    When I click on one of the included files I see that file show up in my window.  However, I am unable at this point to get back to the file that included this one; i.e., the master file that is still above the other files.
    If I click on the tab for the master file, I don't see the contents of this file.  If I click on the small white paper icon (with the top right corner folded) on the left navigation bar, I see the name of the master file.  Selecting it still doesn't fill my editor window with the master file.
    There is a little symbol on the right side of the tabs for the included files.  (It looks like >>, except the arrows face down.)  This has the list of all of the files that I have open, minus the master file.
    It is very hard to believe that Dreamweaver would make CS4 this hard to use.  Unfortunately, I have no idea how to get the master file back in the editor window after I have clicked on one of the files it includes.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  thanks.

  • How to open and edit my sites (made on my old computer) on my new Macbook?

    Hi, I have bought a Macbook and I would like to edit my Sites which
    I have done so far on my iMac G5. How should I do this?
    And if I edit them later on my laptop will they automatically save on iMacG5?

    this is very easy. you need to get the following file from your old computer:
    /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites
    you need to copy the domain file!, copy it to the same folder on your new computer (if the folder is not there then open iweb once, do something, save and close). replace the existing file on the macbook with your G5 domain file.
    now open iweb up and your website is there! see here for a better description:
    http://web.mac.com/madmax019/0/mx/Domain%20File%20Is%20Everything%21%20Backup%20 Now%21.html
    have fun editing!

  • How do I open and save a DVD as movie file?

    I have a DVD with video content that I want to eventually get "in" to iMovie for editing.
    I can open and play with iDVD.
    I need to save it as a movie file so that I can hopefully import it to iPhoto - and eventually open and edit with iMovie.
    How do I save it as a movie file? When I tried QuickTime it wasn't able to open it either.
    Thanks,
    Kathy

    Did you load the MPEG2 Playback Component?
    If you open your DVD in the Finder, you should find a folder called Video_TS. In this folder, you should see several files with the extension .VOB. Drag one of these files into MPEG Streamclip and you should be able to play it. If you get that far, we'll keep going.
    AIC is Apple Intermediate Codec. It is a high quality codec good for editing. DV is the codec used by MiniDV camcorders. You can pick these in MPEG Streamclip by selecting FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME/AIC or FILE/EXPORT TO DV
    There are other solutions, but this is the best one if you want to preserve the quality of your files before editing.

  • How open and edit the coherence.xml file?

    How can I open and edit the coherence.xml file?
    I cannot find the coherence.xml file in the coherence.jar package.
    Thank you,
    June

    If you are intent on changing the coherence.xml file, then you could use the JAR command (that comes with Java) to extract the coherence.xml file from coherence.jar and the later repackage the coherence.jar file using the udpated coherence.xml file, e.g.:
    C:\java\opt\coherence-331\lib>jar -xvf coherence.jar tangosol-coherence.xmlextracted: tangosol-coherence.xml>
    Instead of using JAR, on Windows you can associate the .JAR, .WAR and .EAR extensions with WinZip and use it to access / modify the contents of JAR files.
    However, the suggested approach is as follows, and does not include any changes to the tangosol.jar file:
    The tangosol-coherence-override-dev.xml file can be found in the coherence.jar file. After editing this file (in this case to define a unique value for the port system-property value for the multicast listener), save the file and add it to the server's classpath. When the server is executed, the values in the tangosol-coherence-override-dev.xml file will override any corresponding settings in the tangosol-coherence.xml file.Peace,

  • How can I open and edit files that were developed and published by ftp to my host on my old macbook, which I can no longer access.

    How can I open and edit files that were developed and published via ftp to my host on my old macbook, which I can no longer access. The HD containing the files cannot be accessed. I want to be able to download the published files to be edited in iweb?

    You CAN'T download published files and then edit them in iWeb because iWeb can't open them - it has no import facility so is unable to open any html or css files - a previously published site.
    You can download these files yes, but you'll need to use them as a guide or to cut and paste text from there whilst you re-build your site in iWeb.
    The only other way is to download the files and then open them with an html editor such as TextWrangler or use one of the other web design programmes out there that is capable of importing html and css such as Dreamweaver of Flux 4.
    These are your only alternatives as iWeb can't import and if you want to continue to use iWeb, then you'll have to re-build your site from scratch.  If you do just remember to back up your domain.sites file this time around - it is found under your User/Library/Applicaion Support/iWeb/domain.sites.

  • Open and edit animated .gif while preserving frame timing

    CS4 Premium Design Edition, Win XP
    I was disappointed with the removal of Image Ready from CS3 because although some of the functionality was placed into Photoshop 10, there was no way to open and edit an existing animated .gif while preserving the timing of each individual frame. I was told on the PS forum at the time that I really needed to use Fireworks. I resented that, because I was very happy with Image Ready and I didn't want to have to learn a new application just to gain functionality that had been included in previous versions of PS/IM.
    I've now got CS4 Premium Design Edition which of course includs Fireworks... and here's what Help has to say on the subject of imported .gifs.
    "Note: When you import an animated GIF, the state delay setting defaults to 0.07 seconds. If necessary, use the States panel to restore the original timing."
    This is no use to me. What if I don't know the individual frame timings? What if there are 200 frames with varying timings?
    Simple question: which current Adobe product is capable of importing a .gif while retaining the frame timings? If anyone knows, or if I've misunderstood the nature of the Fireworks Help quote above, I'd really appreciate some input here. Thanks :)
    Not so simple question: why was an excellent gif-editing application thrown out to have its functionality partially replaced by a bunch of scripts and half-effective workarounds cooked up by desperate users ("import a gif by using the video import and typing *.* into the filename box..")? It's a fair question I think.
    Mark

    Hi Bob, that's not glib at all, it's a reasonable question.
    I uninstalled it along with everything else when I installed CS3, in the reasonable expectation that whatever replaced IR would be at least equal in functionality.
    Perhaps I should just dig out CS2 and install IM from there, but I have some serious reservations about doing so, because I don't know if/how a partial install of CS2 will impact upon my installation of CS4, and I'm not confident of getting support.
    I am also curious to know if/why Adobe actually removed basic functionality without replicating or replacing it in their other software. I really want to know: which recent, currently supported Adobe product
    should I be using in order to regain this functionality? Or do Adobe no longer produce a geniuinely comprehensive .gif-editing application?

  • Video Format Total Solution: How to Convert and Edit Video on Windows/Mac

    More and More video formats are coming out with different video encoders and it makes our spare time more and more colorful. However, it is not to say that there is no problems. Actually, different video formats make it difficult to share video with others, even your own camcorder and iPod. Is there an easy way to convert videos effectively. Yes, there is.
    In this article, I will show you guys how to convert videos on windows and mac.
    Part 1. How to Convert and Edit Videos on Windows
    For Windows users, you need a Video Converter(http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-video-converter.html) to do that for you.
    Here I use Aiseesoft Total Video Converter(http://www.aiseesoft.com/total-video-converter.html)
    Step 1: Download and install Aiseesoft Total Video Converter
    After you download it to your computer, double click it and it is really easy to install.
    You just need to click “next” and it will complete it in seconds. It will automatically run after installation.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/total-video-converter/screen.jpg
    Step 2: Load Video
    Click “Add File” to find the video that you want to convert and click “open”. It will be loaded automatically.
    Step 3: Select the target to decode
    In the “Profile” drop download list you can find your target according the usage of your output video, such as if you want to put the video on your iPod touch, you can select the “iPod” in the first list and “iPod touch 2 MPEG-4 640*480(*.mp4)” in the second list.
    Step 4: Set Advanced Parameters
    After you select the right output profile, you can click “setting” button to set your advanced parameters. You can adjust video and audio settings separately. In video section, you can change “video encoder”, “resolution”, “frame rate”, “video bitrate”In audio section, you can change “audio encoder”, “sample rate”, “channel”, “audio bitrate”If you want to save this profile and settings and use it next time you can click “save as” button to give a name to it. And the next time you want to use it you can find it in the profile list named “user defined”.
    Step 5: Choose a Destination
    To browse and find a output folder for your output files or just the default one.
    Finally, Click “Convert” button to begin your conversion, here in the converting
    interface you can choose “shut down the computer when conversion complete” or “open output folder when conversion complete” or you just do not choose neither one.
    Tips: How to Edit the Output Video
    This video converter is also a video editor, you can use it to edit your output video as follows:
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/total-video-converter/effect.jpg
    1. Effect:
    You are allowed to adjust the “Brightness”, “Contrast”, “Saturation” and you can choose the “deinterlacing” to make the video more enjoyable.
    2. Trim:
    In “Trim” section you can pick up any part of the video to convert.
    There are two ways to select the part of the video you want. One is set the start and end time in the box. The other one is to drag the start and end button in the processing bar.
    3. Crop:
    This function allows you to choose a certain play area to convert. That means you can choose a part of the screen you like to convert. For example, you just like the tv in the middle of the screen, then you can drag the frame around the preview window to select the tv and the output preview will show you the output video.In this section you can also choose the “zoom mode”, such as “keep original”, “full screen”, “16:9”, “4:3”.
    4. Watermark
    In the section, you can add a watermark on the output video to show people something, such as your name, website, studio name or other things. The watermark could be words and picture. You can adjust the transparent of the watermark easily to make it more beautiful.
    Part 2. How to Convert Video on Mac
    This time you need a Video Converter for Mac(http://www.aiseesoft.com/video-converter-for-mac.html)
    Step 1: Add File
    Click “Add File” button to load the video you want to converter
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/mac-video-converter/steps.jpg
    Step 2: Choose profile and adjust settings
    You can find your output video format from a drop-list called “Profile”You can also adjust the specific settings of the output video, such as “Resolution”, “Bitrate”, “Encoder” and so on.

  • Opening and editing a PDF in INDESIGN

    I am trying to edit a newsletter that was created by someone else using INDESIGN.  It is now a PDF.  I downloaded the free 30-day trial version of INDESIGN and cannot even open the PDF using said software.  Can someone please offer any suggestions or ideas on how I can open and edit this PDF?  Thanks.

    No can do...
    ID will Place a pdf, not edit it.
    There is a plug in, PDF2ID, might be cost justifiable if you are going to do this occasionally (Really bad idea, really bad)
    There is a widely known program which will open the pdf, widely frowned upon, strongly discouraged by all who represent Adobe...it is one of their flagship programs.
    Save the pdf as a Word file, Place the Word file, rebuild that file from scratch, tedious. ..

    I opened and edited a pic from my Olympus camera onto my mac (not in iPhoto).  I zoomed in and rotated the pictures and when I tried to click out of them, I got a message that the file was locked because I hadn't used it recently and "If you want to make changes to this document, click Unlock. To keep the file unchanged and work with a copy, click Duplicate."  I clicked "unlock" and then another message came up with the options of OK, Cancel, or Revert.  If I hit OK, I couldn't go back to my original picture.  I clicked OK.
