How to open animated .GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer

Q: Since ImageReady is long gone from Photoshop, how can I open animated GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer?
A: File -> import-> video to layers.
In the dialogue box type "*.*" to show all file types.
Select your GIF file and which frames to import.
They will now be available in your animation palette.

curt y, sorry for the late reply, I tried that but I doesn't work. I have to choose at least two files in the Load Layers window in order for the OK button to be available and then some action script uses the different files to make layers and merges them but not from the frames of the gif file. I can undo through the script to see what it did but it never accessed the frames of the gif file, just the first frame. Choosing "make frames from layers" in the animation palette only puts the original files into layers - that is only the first frame of the gif file.
I guess I'm out of luck with the 64  bit version of Photoshop as Zeno suggested :-(
What program would you people suggest for opening each frame from gif files?

  • Is it possible and how to open animated gif files in Photoshop CS4

I made a Google search and I found tips that Photoshop can open frames from animated gif files by using File->Import->Video Frames to Layers. But this menu is missing from Photoshop CS4 on the computer I'm using it. Searching this forum for "Import animated gif" didn't return any result. Any ideas?

how to open a cr2 file in photoshop if I do not have Lightroom?

Photoshop menu File>Open select the CR2 file.  If you have a resent canon you may need CS6 or newer only they support ACR 8.6 beta with RAW support for the latest cameras. If you have an older version of Photoshop you may need to create Adobe DNG file for you CS2 file using Adobe DNG converter and process the DNG files with you Photoshop versions older ACR support.

Indicas que no puedes abrir ningun archivo de video, se supone que has probado varios formatos, mp4, mov,..
Has actualizado el OSX a 10.9 ?, funcionaba antes? La versión de Photoshop es la CC, no la CC 2014?
En el menú de Ayuda>Actualizaciones, cual es el resultado, dice que esta al día?
    Tienes abiertas otras aplicaciones?
Prueba a cerrar todo, espera media minuto y abre Photoshop a ver que ocurre.

  • How to open a .pse file in photoshop elements?

    Hello,
All my previous files were saved as (.psd). Somehow, one of my photoshop elements projects was saved as a (.pse). I can't open it. How can I re open this file and continue working?
    Thanks in Advance

A PSD is the standard working file for Photoshop.
A PSE is a project file for Photoshop Elements. These projects are multiple pages. If you are working with a PSE on Windows, there will be a folder along side your PSE that contains a PSD file for each page of the PSE. If you are missing this folder, you won't be able to open the file. The PSE file itself is just instructions on how to open the PSD files as pages of a project. On Mac, all of these files are wrapped up in a single container.

Have used Works08..Pages ver.3.0.3...How to open these old files in my new Pages5 app

You can't. You can install iWork 08 and update but it will only work for iWork documents. You need to have iWork 09 or Pages 09 to read Pages 08 documents.
Pages 5 can read Pages 09 documents but a lot of them will look messed up as Pages 5 doesn't have all the features that Pages 09 have.
My advise is use Pages/iWork 08 for you old documents. Pages 5 is only for those who moves/work on documents over iCloud.

  • How to edit existing gif file using photoshop (CS2)

    Hello Forum,
I have some gif images that I have used for creating tabs on a
web page. I downloaded these images from somewhere, and did not create them
myself. I would like to change the color of these gif files.
They are a nice image, with a gradient applied at the top, and I have a left side gif for the tab as well as an "over" image set for the tab(s) as well.
I use the images in a css file to display the tabs on a web page.
The gradient is across the top of the tab, which is a lighter color, almost going to white, and the rest of the tab is a light blue, with left and right top a slight rounded corner. I would like to preserve the gradient appearance, but change the light blue theme to an almost black (#333333) color.
How can I do this in photoshop?
    Thanks,
    eholz1

    Hi All
I would like to create an action in CS2 to resize an image to e.g 600 x ? pixels and then save for web at max 149kb .
Any clues? I've tried a few different files of different file sizes?(possible cause here) and always end up with different results when using my actions or the image processor.
Is this at all possibleto accomplish in a single step?
Let me elaborate more. On a particular forum where post we are limited to 600 x? pixels and file size no greater than 150 kb. When creating this action in CS2 with different file sizes one lands up with files ranging from 70kb (not as good for viewing) to 149kb(perfect size)or 357kb?(way too big). I'd like to have as close to <150kb for ALL files in the "action"
Is this possible without getting into scripting?
    Thanks
    Don

  • How to view animated gif files?

When I open them in Preview, each frame of the animation is displayed as its own image, rather than displaying as an animation.

Really? What's the secret? I tried using the Open dialog box and also drag 'n drop onto the TextEdit icon. But all either got me was an unhelpful view of the binary code for the gif. I ask because I keep looking for an easy way to see the animation--I have animated gifs turned off in both Firefox and Safari, since 99% of the time they just drive me nuts, which means in order to view that 1 in a 100 (actually more like 1 in 10000) animation I would like to see I have to launch Opera.

  • How to open Camera RAW (CR2) files in Photoshop CS3 and CS4? (Mac)

I have a Canon 7D. I prefer to shoot in raw format, but the CR2 files cannot be opened by either Photoshop CS3 on my Mac in the office OR by Photoshop CS4 on my iMac at home.
I have tried dowloading the Adobe DNG Coverter and Camera Raw 4.6 update (which is SUPPOSEDLY intended to work for CS3) and followed the instructions to replace the plug-in. STILL a no-go. CS3 STILL tells me "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
What gives? Does anyone know of a way to get CR2 files to open in Photoshop CS3 or CS4? (A way that actually works?) Because Adobe's plug-in update doesn't seem to do it, and Canon's "fine-grain" editing controls for raw images is pretty lack-luster.
    Thanks (in advance)!

Have you tried opening up out of Bridge? If that doesn't work you may new need to download a new driver from Canon. All my peripherals are Canon and I am always having to download new drivers everytime I update. Fortunatly they are really easy to find on Canon's site.

  • Animated Gif file in Photoshop says 990kb, in the Finder it's 1.7mb.  Solutions?

Can I see how large the file will actually be in the Save for Web dialog --  so I can set the lossy and settings appropriately?  Why would the file double in size from what's indicated in the Save For Web dialog?  What can I do to see the correct size before saving?  Right now it's all trial and error.

The best way to do it is go back to PS and place the navigation area in the design, i would make it 100% of the width and then re-slice the design making sure one single slice is the whole of this navigation area.
That would be the best way to do it while still using a table layout which in and of itself is not recommended, in large part  for this very reason.
Every time you want to make a small change to the layout of your site, it will require re-slicing and re-generating code out of PS. You would be much better off taking the time to understand css layouts. Here is a good place to start to get the basics of css: http://www.w3schools.com/css

  • Problems opening DNG converted file in Photoshop CS3

I have used Adobe DNG Converter 5.4 to convert my Panasonic DMC-FX150 raw images. The conversion goes well, but the resulting file throws an error when opening in PSCS3: Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file.
The only thing I can think of is that the images were taken in the 16:9 aspect ratio.
Lightroom will render the image to a tiff, which I can then open in PS, but this is a PITA.
Is the 16:9 ratio unsupported in CS3? appoligies for not pre-searching the forum other than looking for "16:9"

well, problem is back. DNG radomly failing to process all images. I took 6 pictures all at the same settings, and out of the 6, only two converted successfully. No errors in DNG, but in Finder, for the files that don't open in PSCS3 don't have thumbnail icons.

  • Can Premiere Elements be used on an animated gif file?

I am considering purchasing Premiere Elements but I need to know if one can use it to add effects to an animated gif file.
For example, in Photoshop Elements one can add certain effects to a gif image, such as giving it certain textures or filters.
Can one do the same kind of thing in Premiere Elements and if so can it be done to an animated gif file?
Maybe a better way to ask this question is:  can you import an animated gif file into Premiere Elements and then manipulate it?  Run filters, etc.
    Thanks for your help.

If you load your GIF into Premiere Elements 10, edit it, then share to an AVI file, you can then import the AVI file into GIF Movie Gear by Gamani, which will then create an animated GIF. I learned about this utility from a Microsoft tutorial on creating icons for Windows XP.
    http://www.gamani.com/product_icon.htm
If you use Firefox and get redirected, try using Internet Explorer instead.
After the trial period is over, it's $29.95US for 4 licences.
When you share to an AVI file, you will want to select the Microsoft AVI item from the list, then click the advanced button to open up the dialog where you will need to select a codec and enter the frame size and frame rate. The codec will have to be one that GIF Movie Gear likes, so there may be some trial and error needed to get a good codec. I shared to an AVI after picking Xvid for the codec, which GIF Movie Gear imported.

  • Animated Gif files in Captivate

I have created an animated GIF file in Photoshop that i want to use in my captivate file.
The file wont preview in any of the preview modes other than the HTML5 output preview. All other previews just show the first frame of the GIF file.
If i chose to SWAP the animation with another GIF from the library the preview shows the animation playing.. see attached
Is there something im doing wrong here.
I guess i could upload my final file to the LMS with HTML5 output as this preview shows the animation but i also read there are limitations with this output as some transitions / effects dont work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Darren

    Hi Darren,
Yes, you can verify whether your GIF would fucntion correctly on HTML5 platform by Window--HTML5 Tracker Pod.
I am not an expert on Photoshop, but still would like to make a recommendation.
Set the 'delay' value for each of your Frame to 0.01 or some value if it shows as 0, this can be done using the animation frame Window. Save it as GIF again for Web Devices and import in Captivate, see, if you are abale to preview this time.
    Thanks,
