How to open certain program(s) auto on start up?

Mac newbie. Need to know how to set certain programs to open on start up somewhat like windows startup menu. Thanks.

Open the Accounts pane of System Preferences, click on Login Items, and add those applications to the list.

  • IMac trouble opening certain programs

problem is: i will try to open certain programs, they will quickly appear in the dock, and then the icon will fade away without ever opening the program.
this particular problem began a little over a year ago when i upgraded to tiger. i was running pro tools frequently at the time, and did not realize that my pro tools program would not be compatible with the new OS. so i downgraded back to 10.3.9, and that's when this particular problem began.
i knew there would be consequences to my downgrade like this. my printer no longer interfaced with my computer, safari no longer opened, etc. and i dealt with it. however, i got a strange message yesterday when i went to open a .txt file saying "this is the first time you've used the program Text Edit", and then i got it again a few minutes ago when i tried to open System Preferences ("this is the first time you've used the program System Preferences"). now for the first time ever, my System Preferences will not open.
my most recent actions have been updating iChat A/V, updating Limewire, messing with some .bin files, and it says my "AppleScript" was modified last night around the time i got the message about Text Edit (which is odd because i've never used AppleScript).

If you think a corrupted preference file may be the cause, you can run a quick command line in Terminal to diagnose any troublesome ones. If it shows any corrupted prefs files, then you can delete only those, then restart.
    Open Utilities>Terminal
    enter:
    plutil -s ~/Library/Preferences/*.plist <enter>
This checks for corrupted prefs files in your home folder. If there are any, it will display the file's path. Just delete that file and reboot. If nothing is displayed, then everything checked out okay.
You should also check prefs files OUTside of your home folder by omitting the tilde "~" in the terminal command. Like so:
    plutil -s /Library/Preferences/*.plist <enter>
Again, bad prefs files will show, otherwise you get nothing.
This may not help your problem if it's not prefs related, but couldn't hurt nonetheless.

  • How to open labview program with Quit Labview function inside?

Hi Any idea how to open labview program with  Quit Labview function inside?
I forgot to add and set the condition of the type for this program.
If the program is an application, it would close straight away.
If it is still labview work, it will go straight to editing program without closing.
So I need to recover, open it and make some changes.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Put the VI in a project and open it from there, then it shouldn't autorun. You can use App.kind property of application to decide whether to close or not.

  • The Audio Service is not running when I open certain programs

My audio works fine when I boot my computer.  However, any time I got to click on the speaker icon at the bottom right the audio service stops running.  When I use the system.msc fix that is very common on the web by the time I open the panel the
audio has already realized that it is running and starts running again.  If I open razer comms, it stop working again and I either can open system.msc to fix it, or I can just click the speaker icon to fix it.  When I open a game, like FFXIV it stop
working again, click the speaker and all the sudden it turns back on.
I have read every thread I can find on the web about the "Audio is not running" issue but no one seems to have had this exact problem and I don't know how to fix it.
For the love of god help

    Hi,
By saying the audio service us not working, do you mean the speaker icon show an red "X" ?
Please take a check with the following KB article:
In Windows 7 a red 'X' may appear over the speaker icon in the notification area even though audio output functions correctly
If this is the issue, then this behavior is cosmetic in nature and does not affect the performance of Windows.

  • How to open this program ?

    Hello,
I charged premiere pro CC, I do not find the window which allows to open this file.
    Any idea ?
    Crazy situation...
    Best regards
    P

Well... what the error message says (in English) is:
"Adobe Premiere Pro CC stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and tell you if a solution is available
    Close the program"
So... typically unhelpful error message.  It would seem that there is something in your setup that is not correct.  Off hand... is it possible that you downloaded the 64-bit version and you only have a 32-bit operating system?  Just a guess... could be something else... but you definitely have the program installed, it just won't run

  • How to open the programs, tcodes and thier authorizations.

    Hi folks,
I have to find out programs like  ZAFGU021      their tcodes and aouthorization attached with these programs. Pls help me its urgent.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Julius,
I still stand my my use of the term for the majority those hardcoders
Unfortunately I have experienced the sorts of chaos that it can cause due to people not thinking about the consequences of hard coding something.
By it's very nature, using hardcoded checks to provide restriction is an inflexible approach in an area (user and role management) that regularly changes and benefits from an uniform approach to providing restriction (hence the reference to PIDs too).  We already have a reasonably flexible restriction mechanism so let's use it!
Comparing SAP code to custom code, there is very little in the way of hard coded restriction coming out of Walldorf.  With custom code it's not exactly uncommon to see the likes of IF SY-UNAME= Developer, skip the auth check....in the production environment.
From a practical perspective, the ability to dip into ABAP is not a particularly common skill within the security function.  While there is a very strong argument to say that a basic understanding is an invaluable skill to have, I still would not recommend working outside the standard security mechanism unless absolutely necessary.  The fewer "gotcha's" and exceptions the better.
In terms of the code scanner, I agree it's not perfect and has limitations.  In the past I have found it very useful for quickly identifying the existence of an AUTHORITY-CHECK statement in a particular program - better than Alt-F on "AUTHORITY"
Taking a pragmatic view, custom code tends to use fewer includes & jumps to other programs than SAP standard code, probably due to the reduced complexity in many cases.
Trace is still my preference all day long as long as there aren't any pesky hard coded checks going on........
    Cheers
    Alex

  • How to restart a program that has already started?

On my previous cable TV system, I could restart a program after it had already started all the way back to the beginning, to see the whole program. How can I do this with FIOS?
    Thanks.

    tns wrote:
I had only heard that Cablevision was doing this with its Virtual DVR.
Essentially with Verizon FIOS you can only restart on a DVR what the DVR has in its buffer.  If it one of the tuners happened to be tuned to that station (even if the DVR was off), you can backup to the beginning of the program if its still in the buffer.  One way to see if this is possible, without rewinding, is to hit record, then look in your DVR recordings and select the program.
Some days later you might find a program in the VOD section.  For some channels, e.g. movie channels, it may be already in VOD.
No. I don't mean with the DVR. Let's say I turn on a program at 9:17PM but it started at 9 PM. Is there a way I can re-start the program so I can watch it from the beginning? My cable company had a way to do this. Does FIOS?

  • How to run a program as an administrator from within a non-elevated command prompt?

I have a project that is going to be running on a kiosk, and the user that is running the kiosk software is going to be restricted.  I have an alternate administrator account, but I cannot seem to figure out how to open my program running as this administrator
user.  I have tried to use runas, like so:
    runas /user:admin kiosk.exe
However, when I try to run this command, it asks me for the password of the administrator account and my program doesn't open correctly.  It fails to open at all.  If I change the run as to a start command, then the program executes fine so its
not a problem with my software.
Is there a way to pass a password parameter to runas so that it will not prompt for the password every time?  If there is not, can someone think of another way for me to elevate my process to administrator without being logged in as one through the
    command prompt?

    Hi KevinGEAR,
You want to allow the others without the administrator`s level to run this software and  meanwhile the administrator is not logged in, right?
Here is an alternative solution :
1.To work with this solution, a built-in administrator account should be enabled and meanwhile you can create a standard account. The built-in administrator account is different from the administrator account you created.
    To enable built-in administrator account:

    2. Use the following code
runas /user:ComputerName\Administrator /savecred "Full path to program's exe file"

  • Loss of sound in certain programs

For some reason, once I open certain programs the sound goes away. If I open Finale, Soundhack, Itunes, or Audacity at the same time, the sound will go away within these programs. Sometimes even if I close the program before opening the next one, it will not play sounds. Two of the programs (Soundhack and Audicity) give me output errors. Even though the sound goes away for them, though, my effects and other sounds work. Quicktime plays fine too.
At first I thought it was just a MIDI thing, but Quicktime will play midi's fine when the sound if off, too. I really have no idea what it could be. PLEASE HELP!
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Um, itunes worked fine. I re-opened Finale after closing Itunes too and it worked fine.
It happens once in awhile, mostly when I need to use the program urgently to finish a piece or project.
Last week I was working with soundhack, and then opened Audacity at the same time. Bad idea. Both quit working. Just to check, I opened Finale and it also didn't work. Finale works with MIDI, though, while the other work with AIFF.

  • How can I open a program using Java and then perform certain tasks with it?

For example, and this is just an example, I want to write a Java program that opens MS Paint and then manipulates that program. This can be useful to automate certain tasks.
My question is whether this can be done writing Java code and if so how? If not possible, would I need to use a scripting language instead?

write a Java program that opens MS Paint and then
manipulates that program. This can be useful to
automate certain tasks."manipulates" is a too wide term. Let me narrow down:
    1. If you want to open (run) the program and then shut (kill) it down it is possible and fairly trivial to do in java. Look up Runtime and Process classes in java.lang package
    2. If you want to open the program and edit some image/document in the opened program. It is very difficult in java. May be possible... using some Java/COM bridge, assuming your native program is COM/Active-x compliant. Note: these things go beyond the boundary of JVM and needs to interact with host OS and involves shared memory, ipc and all "low level" stuffs.
If you want to be able to play around with these COM/Activex apps- choose .NET instead :-)
    3) You can open the program from java and pass it some command line arg as in (1) above and then the program will load that document/image at startup automatically. You may then edit the doc/image thru that program itself. However, Java is not doing anything for you here, other than just starting off your native mspaint.exe ot notepad.exe.

In Lion, running on an I MAC, (late 2006), how can I stop certain programs (iTunes, Word) from automatically starting up when I start the computer?

Any application that is open when you shut down will re-open when you restart unless you deselect this when shutting down/restarting:
Also check System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login items tab and make sure there's nothing listed there that you don't want launched.
