  • How to Open DOC in Office 2003 and DOCX on Office 2007 automatcally when both installed on same pc

How to Open .DOC file in Office 2003 and .DOCX on Office 2007 automatcally when both office 2003 and 2007 are installed on same pc
When tried with open with files automatically open in 2007.

Presumably you've confirmed that both copies of Word are working alongside each other, and if you right click on a document you see both options listed in the Open With menu?
If so the first thing to try is to right click on a .doc file, go to the Open With menu and then click "Choose default program". If both versions of Word are listed then simply choose Word 2003, ensuring the option to always use this choice is selected.
If you find that both options are listed as "Microsoft Word" with no version number, or only one is listed, then select the more options entry and then at the bottom of the list select to find another app on the PC. You can then navigate to the Word 2003 executable
    and select it that way.
Alternatively, search in the start menu for "associations" and you'll find an option to change the file type associated with a file extension. Open that and you'll get a list of every extension known to Windows, and within that you'll find .doc and .docx
listed, and you can change which application each is associated to.

everything boils down to semantics, but here goes.  I mean one acrobat window with multiple tabs as needed.  just like I used to have before I got this pc with that monster Win8. currently I have a separate acrobat window for each file I have opened.  Thus 6 files, 6 windows

  • How to open .msg attachments

I upgraded recently Leopard 10.5.1. Previously I was working 10.4.10 so I do not have experience with Mail from 10.5.0.
In Leopard Mail 3.1 (914/915) I am receiving some mails with files xyz.msg and abc.msg (example names) attached. Those files do not show up with the paper clip attachment symbol in the Message Viewer window but they do show up as attachments within the message themselves and under the messages 'attachment triangle'.
In 10.4.x these sorts of files used to be imbedded within the mail message itself - seemingly like HTML embedded content. I could read the content and print it from within Mail and it acted like a specially formatted part of the mail message. In 10.5.1 however, these attachments are not rendered in the message, clicking to open them or saving them to the Finder is fine but I do not know with which application they can be read. I tried Text Edit and Safari - both can open the .msg files but only as HTML source.
Has anyone out there seen this behavior and have an idea for how to view these attachments, or better still, view them in the original message as per the old behavior?
Although in 10.4 I had "Display remote images in HTML messages" turned off for security, I also tried that here without effect.
    Thanks to all.

I've had the same issue in 10.5.1 (not sure about 10.5.0). I've narrowed it down a bit however. I noticed that I always get the .msg (which can't really be read) when the sender uses Squirrelmail (webmail) to forward as attachment. When the sender uses Outlook and forwards as attachment, I get an email with no attachment. The size of the email indicates that there should be, but none is visible. However, when the sender uses Mail 3.1, the attachment works as expected (an envelope is shown that can be opened by a click).
Perhaps different mail clients use different methods when forwarding an email as an attachment? I'm sure this is a bug in Mail, but it certainly is frustrating!
Has anyone else seen this sort of behavior?

  • How to Open Doc. and Docx. attachments with Word 2013 from Firefox

I just got a new laptop and installed Office 2013. However, when I try to open an attachment from my email or a document from the web, the box comes up that says "What should Firefox do with this file?" I can save the file fine, but when I click "Browse" next to "Open with", Microsoft Word is nowhere to be found. It would be nice to get the document to automatically open in Word. I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question, but any help would be appreciated.

Which application opens the file if you double-click such a file in Windows Explorer?
If the default program is Word then Firefox should offer that application as the default.
In the case of an attachment then it may not be likely that the file is send with the correct MIME type for a doc or docx file, but possibly a generic type like "application/octet-stream" that will make Firefox want to save the file.

How to determine which type of files I can open in browser!

    Regards, Kostya!

I think this depends on your browser settings. Try this:
    1. In your Windows Explorer open the Advanced menue
    2. Go to "Options" and click the tab "File Extensions"
    3. Find the extension .doc and click on "Advanced" button
    4. Check the check box "Open in the same Window"
    5. Confirm

how can I open winmail.dat attachments on my Mac.  I can on the Ipad but not the Mac.

Alternatively, ask the sender(s) to change their Microsoft Windows email client settings; that change can be done with the client for a specific recipient (you, in this case), or globally when Exchange Server and Active Directory is involved; details here (HT2614), and here and here at Microsoft.

  • How to open .doc files created with microsoft word 97... when using mac os x 10.7.4?

hi!  i'm using mac os x 10.7.4 and have Office 2011.  i can no longer open older documents (.doc) created with Microsoft Word 97...  What can i do to get access to these files?
    thanks in advance!

I had too many of these that I had to convert to a modern format. It isn't easy or consistent but one of these normally works:
    1. Open up Word and use the File/Open command rather than just double clicking on the file. Why does this sometimes work? I don't know! Save in docx format.
    2. Try opening the files in Office 2010 on a Windows machine. Again, immediately save as a docx file. This works more often than the advice above.
    3. Download the free LibreOffice and try opening it there. There will be some format problems but easily fixed. Once again, save in docx format.
    4. Breakdown and look for a dedicated format converter.
