How to open hyperlinks in a pdf with Adobe Reader 9?

We publish a digital journal with hyperlinks to various sources. After installation of Adobe Reader version 9 we are not able anymore to open the hyperlinks. Looking to the discussion Fora we also followed the procedure to disable the PDF/A mode of view. Then the Reader mentions that it tries connecting the website of the source and asks permission to do so. I give that permission, but nothing happens then. This is really a problem for us and I cannot imagine that this is not soluble. We use internet explorer newest version.

We are experiencing a similar problem with hyperlinks in Reader 9.3.4 but this is with PDF not /A files from which we call SWF movies.
We have training products produced in Acrobat 6, as PDFs which have hyperlinks to run Flash movies (SWFs). The products are installed from CD onto users' hard drives.
The products have worked on hundreds of PCs and Macs, but as each customer updates to Reader 9.3.4 they report failure to open the SWFs.
The SWFs are organised in a hierarchy of folders depending on exact topic. All the movies are inside a "data" folder, then main topic folders, down to sub-topic folders.
I have found that the PDF hyperlinks will open a copy of the relevant SWF if it is placed in the same folder as the calling PDF, but not when it is in its rightful position down the path.
The initial error message shown when files are in their correct folders says e.g.  "Cannot find anchoring_one.swf" suggesting that only the filename is called and not the path. However the second message, displayed when the first is acknowledged, says e.g. "Cannot open data/anchoring/anchoring_one.swf" So the hyperlink IS outputting the full path, but somehow it it is being truncated to file name only.
Seems that the call is produced from the hyperlink correctly, and registers with the system as full path. Then the call is passed forward to a function which should actually open the file and here loses its path, so file-open fails and returns a "Cannot Find" message. The return code from this function is passed back as a failure, to the prior function which still knows the path. This prior function then issues the "Cannot Open" message, including the full path.
Is is totally impractical for us to rewrite and re-issue the programs in any other format, or stop thousands of independent customers from upgrading to Reader 9.3.4
I hope Adobe can fix this issue VERY quickly.

  • How to print a reduced size pdf with adobe reader

How can I print a pdf file at 75% of the original a4 paper size?  a5 is much too small yet I don't see anywhere to conveniently print from adobe reader at less than 100%.

It may depend on the print driver for your printer. Also, I have no idea what the options are in Reader (this is the Acrobat forum, not the Reader forum) and a shrink to fit (usually what you look for) may not be available in Reader.

Hyperlinks can be of several types. What are you linking to? Exactly what
application did you test the hyperlinks with on the Mac? What application
did you use to create the hyperlinks?

    Hello,
How can I give a answer back in the discussion on Adobe.com?
    I don’t see any link?
    1.      We have a subscription.
    2.      Im converting a newsletter from the web to PDF.
    3.      Sometimes I put a weblink behind the image in the newsletter. Most of the time PDF wont take the links behind the image.
    Only the tekstlinks are OK.

i have exactly the same problem on windows server 2008 r2 with adobe reader x. in my case, there are + signs in the http-link and then it behaves like you mentioned. a file without any special characters in the path does not do any problems - it just opens as it should...
    thanks in advance!

  • Unable to print doc as .pdf with Adobe reader XI

Unable to print doc as .pdf with Adobe reader XI in windows 7. Tried uninstalling the software and also repair with same result. When clicked on print doc the option to print as .pdf cannot be seen. It just does not appear in the printer option. Help pls.

Acrobat has NEVER been free. Reader (formerly called "Acrobat Reader") has always been free, but the Creation/Editing software has always had a price tag.

Open a Finder window then from the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins

If you see the:  AdobePDFViewer plugin in the Internet Plug-Ins folder, move it to the trash.

  • Firefox not opening PDF with Adobe Reader for Mac

I can't open PDF in Firefox with Adobe Reader for Mac, what should i do?

I have come across this problem, but i have solved my problem. The default PDF viewer with Firefox browser on Mac is Preview, so you can't use adobe reader to open PDF files, if you want to use Adobe Reader to open pdf with Firefox on mac, you need set adobe reader as your mac's default pdf viewer. Do as follows:
    1. Select any PDF file and choose File > Get Info.
    2. Choose Adobe Reader as your default PDF files viewer from the Browser in Download Action window.
    3. Click OK to set Adobe Reader as your default PDF files viewer.

Cannot open downloaded pdf's with adobe reader. Have latest version of adobe program  continuously get damaged file message.  Anybody else having this problem?   Using imac with osx10.7.1 (latest lion)

I am having the exact same problem. This is very disturbing.
Lately I have been deluged with adobe update dialogues. I don't know whether this is real or some kind of bugus malware phenomenon.
Imagine my surprise when I looked here in the forum and I am not alone.
Kaufmann's remark that we shouldn't be using adobe reader doesn't explain why it is malfunctioning like this. I have been using the reader on Mac  OS for years, and I don't get what's happening now.
Does anyone realy know what is going on?

  • How do you encrypt a PDF with Adobe reader, not Adobe Acrobat?

I would like to encrypt PDFs using Adobe Reader. However, all instructions for encrypting a PDF require me to use Adobe ACROBAT, not Adobe READER. How do I encrypt a PDF using Adobe Reader?
Extra Note: I use Adobe READER version XI and Mac OS X 10.9.

Adobe Reader does exactly what its name says: it reads PDF files, nothing more.

  • Edit pdf with Adobe Reader Pro XI?

How do I edit a PDF file with Adobe Reader Pro XI?

"How" very much depends on what exactly you want to achieve.  Basically you open it in Acrobat, then use the tools to edit it.  You may need to perform text recognition (OCR) if the document is a scanned image.
If you need details how to do certain edits, you better ask in the Acrobat forum (Creating, Editing & Exporting PDFs).

  • How to create a non downloadable pdf in Adobe reader X?

    Hi,
How can I create a non downloadble pdf in Adobe Reader X. Please help.
    Regards,
    Shreya

    Good day,
To Bernd's point, you cannot stop someone from downloading your PDF (or any file for that matter) if you put them onto the Internet.  There are ways of limiting how long a file can be viewable for through some server side software options, but ultimately, to your original question, you cannot create PDF files with Adobe Reader.

  • Impossible to review pdf with Adobe Reader 9.0

    Hello,
I'm trying to use the option in Acrobat sending pdf to review by users working with Adobe Reader but it
doesn't work as described in the help.
I'm sending the review with Acrobat Professional version 7.0 and the receiver with Adobe Reader 9.0.
Normally it should work as it is indicated Adobe Reader 7.0 or higher, but the receiver is not able to add comments and the toolset which should be provide according to the Acrobat review wizard doesn't open.
    Who can help?
    thx! Anja

With Acrobat 7 you can only send out Browser Based Review, (which is replaced by shared reviews in version 9).
The reviewers will need to open the PDF inside a browser, and have access to the location of the PDF to be reviewed.
Acrobat 8 can do both types still, have a look here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/8.0/Professional/help.html?content=WSB7237F9D-E90A-4c6 b-8C0D-58C7B2063B1D.html
And here's a tutorial for those situations whereby reviewers do not have access to the server location of the Reviewed PDF:
