How to open in regular adobe reader, NOT touch?

How do I open a pdf in adobe reader, NOT adobe reader touch, as I am on a laptop?  I dowloaded adobe reader, and uninstalled (I thought) adobe reacher touch - yet when I open a file from email - it defaults to touch which I cannot operate on a laptop.

You can go to Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set Default Programs, then set Adobe Reader XI as the default program.

Hi Dennis, thank you for the reply. I have Adobe Reader installed and open. When I click on the pdf documents an error message box opens and says "Error. The document cannot be opened beacause it is not a valid pdf document". Perhaps the pdf's on the USB memory stick are corrupted. I can't open them on the laptop either. I'll reload them and try again.

  • How to change outlook mail using Word to try and open PDF to Adobe Reader XI?

how to change outlook mail using Word to try and open PDF to Adobe Reader XI?

I've never found technology to make life easier. It mainly offers the promise (often unfulfilled) of making it cheaper or quicker. This didn't happen when the Girl Guides put a form in an envelope and posted it. But they probably laid off the person whose job that was with the promise of everything being easy on the internet.
PDF has, curiously, become a victim of its own success. A few years ago, you could say to people "You need Adobe Reader" and it was the only serious game in town. So they got it and it works. Now everyone is making their own PDF reader for whatever reason, fewer and fewer people can be sure of having Reader. (PDF readers come at least with every Mac, every Windows 8 system, Chrome and FireFox, which covers a LOT of ground).
This is coupled with a bizarre decision Adobe made a few years ago to have two kinds of form, one of which all the other software fails with (and, as I noted, even Adobe's own software on iPad and Android fails). This was a neat idea which was designed for big corporations. Then the really big mistake: giving everyone with Acrobat the tools to make these new kinds of form, and making it seem they were preferre or the only game in town. This is finished now (Acrobat 11 doesn't include this big boy's software) but the damage is done, oh how it is done.
Even regular forms tend to only work properly in real Adobe Reader. The fact is, if you make or distribute PDF forms you need to tell people to use Adobe Reader, and to know exactly how to help them do that. If people can't do that or their users won't be motivated to bother, then PDF forms are no longer a suitable choice. Sad but true.

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Launch.ica files opening with Adobe Reader not Java

I was trying to set up to get remote access to my server at work and one step was missed (loading the citrix software onto my computer), so when I tried to open it, it created a launch.ica file. I tried to open the file since it would not open automatically and selected Adobe Reader to open it. After we discovered the missing step and installed the citrix software on my computer, when I try to gain access (through a website on Mozilla Firefox) the file continues to try to open it in Adobe REader, rather than Java. I uninstalled Adobe, opened the file and was able to gain access, but when I re-installed Adobe, the launch again uses Adobe. Is there any way to get the .ica files disconnected from Adobe?

I'm having the same problem.  I run Windows 7 Pro (64 bit), and I'm running Internet Explorer 8.  I have the problem
when using Reader 10, so I deinstalled it and went back to Reader 9, I still have the same problem.

  • How can I speed up opening documents in Adobe Reader xi?   It is extremely slow.  I have Windows 7 Professional.

Opening documents with Adobe Reader xi on my computer is extrememly time-consuming and frustrating. Should I go back to an earlier version of Adobe? I never had this problem until I updated.  My operating system is Windows 7 Professional.

    Hi SuzyQ1,
The opening time of a PDF depends a lot on its internal structure.
Very complex forms are also known for long opening times.
Try clearing the Temporary files on your Windows and it will speed up your system to some extent.
Another thing you can do is,you would have to turn off any software that is running either in your Task Bar or shut them down in Task Manager.

  • How to restore files from Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad)?

I started using Adobe Reader for iOS to annote and comment pdf files. I used the Adobe Reader for Mac OS to upload the files to the Acrobat.com cloud.
Opening the files on iPad worked pretty straight forward and I started editing the pdf right away. When opening the pdf again a couple of days later on iPad, the app downloaded the pdf again in an older version with a couple of annotations present, but a couple of the more recent missing. This is a very disturbing behaviour since I cannot understand why it would sync an older version of the pdf from the cloud over the newer one. Luckily, this was no very important edit, but I will be very hesitant to use this feature in the future if there is a likelyhood for this happening again. Is there any possibility to recover the file with the original edits from the iPad?
The second thing that I don't understand is the mismatch of files shown in the adobe creative cloud and on acrobat.com when using the acrobat reader. 2 of the files I uploaded can be seen in both the adobe creative cloud and in the 'acrobat.com' cloud (is that a different thing?) as can be accessed from adobe reader on Mac OS. However, there are also files that can be accessed exclusively from the adobe creative cloud and files that can be accessed exclusively from the 'acrobat.com' cloud. I don't really understand the difference and how to sync the two.
    Help is highly appreciated. Thanks!

    AnAppleADay,
I personally agree that having two separate Adobe cloud storage services (Acrobat.com and Creative Cloud) is confusing and undesirable.  However, I am not able to speculate on Adobe products or services in future releases.
There is no direct way to download files on Acrobat.com to your iPad/iPhone.  However, you can download files from Acrobat.com via the web browser interface (https://cloud.acrobat.com/files) on your Windows or Mac desktop/laptop computer.
Then you can (a) email them to yourself and open them in Adobe Reader on your iPad, which results in storing the files locally on your iPad, or (b) use the desktop version of iTunes to transfer the files from your computer to your iPad.  (It's convoluted.  But I am not aware of any other options.)  However, if you uninstall Adobe Reader for iOS, the operating system will erase all of associated application data including locally stored PDF documents.
I suspect that your problem is related to changes not being saved to Acrobat.com properly (not about syncing to an older version).  When you make a lot of changes to a PDF document (e.g adding annotations or filling out forms), I'd recommend closing the modified PDF document occasionally, which forces Adobe Reader to save the changes to Acrobat.com.  You will have less chance of losing changes due to unexpected problems or defects in Adobe Reader.
Please let us know if you know the steps to reproduce the problem (of losing changes) with a particular file on Acrobat.com.  We can investigate the problem.
    Thank you.

  • Adobe Reader Not Working after OS 2 UPGRADE

Hope someone can help with this issue.  Updated to OS 2, but now the Adobe Reader does not work.  Since this was a new device and the upgrade started automatically, I have no idea if Adobe Reader worked in the previous OS version - from the forums, it seem to work.  The shortcut icon is still there but when you click on it,  Adobe Reader opens but is non-functional.  Clicking on a PDF does nothing.  I then tried to uninstall it in My World in Blackberry World Apps.  In the Installed section, it shows Adobe Reader as being installed but I noticed that the Delete button was greyed out so I could not uninstall it for a reinstall.
It was interesting to note that when I tried to find Adobe Reader in BB World Apps, there was no listing for Adobe Reader.
Does anyone else have the same issue?  Hopefully there is a solution for this problem.  Is there another alternative app to Adobe Reader?  Thanks.

Here is a quick test if to check if your Adobe Reader is currently working properly within its current confinement. Open the app and click on ‘Browse’.
If you can browse around, the app is working properly. If you can’t, close Adobe and then open it once more and try to browse.
If you still can’t browse it is time to ‘Restart’ your PB via the battery icon’s ‘Restart’ option.
Once your PB’s main screen loaded again repeat the test. I am sure you can browse now but don’t open a file yet. We need a ‘known’ conforming PDF file.
Now, this might be a bit of a surprise. Not all PDF files are created equally. Therefore, some PDF files can’t be opened by this Adobe Reader’s version without ‘hanging’ the app as indicated by ’not able to browse anymore’.
Please, download a conforming PDF file like the manual for the Playbook and select ‘Download PDF’ from this BB site:
    http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartphone_users/deliverables/27018/index.jsp?name=User+Guide+-+BlackB...
Now open Adobe and select the newly downloaded file: “BlackBerry_Playbook_Tablet_User_Guide—“and it should open all 86 pages. Scroll around. This 2nd test verifies that your Adobe Reader is working because this file was created to follow the Microsoft – Adobe agreed upon standard which the PB is following.
So at this point in time we users have to except that some files are non-conforming and that Adobe Reader version 10.0.3 needs an update.  BTW, I couldn’t find Adobe’s security setting in my PB either (this is not a 'fix' for OS 2 users).
Remember, Adobe cannot open files directly if you browse to your smartphone’s Adobe documents even so they might be ‘conforming’. You have to open these files first via File Manager (found on your main screen) so Adobe gets a trusted link which it stores in its hidden “Recent Document' folder. I guess, this link then allows Adobe to open conforming files which are stored in your smartphone the next time you open this linked  Adobef PDF file without the help of the File Manager.
Your question: Is there another alternative app to Adobe Reader? Contributor sohrabza suggested to use an Android app called ‘Repligo’. I looked a bit into this and it is not yet a downloadable PB app unless you know how to a handle a bar file installation in your Playbook together with their Android version. They also make a Repligo version for the BB smartphone so they know RIM. I can’t believe cerience has not readied the Playbook App store download version to get my $4.99. Many users might want to choose this alternative PDF reader once it is available in the BB AppStore but their website does not give a hint if their app approval is pending with RIM.

  • Flex Mobile - PDF not displaying error - "Adobe Reader not found"

    Hi everyone,
Is viewing PDF documents supported in Flex Mobile projects?  At the moment, I get an error saying:
    "Adobe Reader not found"
I am converting my Adobe Air Desktop project to a Mobile project with Flashbuilder 4.5.1. Any documentation reference on how to get PDF's to view on Flex Mobile applications would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thankyou. The Central Question over this Lumia 625 inability to open a specific pdf (by Lonely Planet) remains:-I could uninstall this Adobe Reader app but think this is not the problem as this app does indeed open all other pdf's on my phone successfully, e.g. the Lonely Planet Invoice!
On the other hand, this particular downloaded & installed pdf can be read on my home PC, my Macbook & my IpodTouch so I can't attribute fault to the filename.
The basic Troubleshoot step of a "soft reset"  is NOT described in the Lumia 625 User Guide & I'm pessimistic this arbitrary step will bear fruit. I have come to the conclusion that no matter what I do, this Lumia model using the MIcrosoft OS has a system flaw that is unable to read the file (a file that other devices & another OS can read) & I will not waste time with ad hoc actions such as resets as this is not a hobby for me.
The pdf in question (88Mb, Lumia free space is >3Gb)  is a travel guide I'd like to use on my next trip & this Lumia 625 is proving not worthy of coming with me. I am disappointed at the lack of "Customer Support" shown by the Nokia Company & I hope this is relayed as some "friendly feedback". Thank you for your own assistance, though.
I invite correction if this assessment is mistaken.

  • Default pdf files to Adobe Reader not Preview

Pdf files always open in Preview. How can I tell my system to open them in Adobe Reader?

I am sorry but have same problem and do not understand what appears to be your very simple instructions. I just installed Adobe Acrobat 9 and when directed my Mac to set Adobe as the default; however, when opening a .pdf document off my university website the only choice I am given is to open the doc in Preview, which results in very inconsistent downloads--sometimes just one page, sometimes just a partial article. In what application do I access "Get Info" and "Open With" etc.?
    Thanks.
