  • Opening google docs with apple mail

    Hi there
Anyone worked out away to open an attachment in Apple Mail App using Google Docs? Or will I have to change my mail app or stick with using Gmail in my browser?
    Any hints appreciated
    Cheers

Google Docs is not an application. It is just a web page. If you want to open a true attachment with Google Docs, you have to upload it. Normally, documents that originate in Google Docs are shared via a link to the document in Google Docs. If you want to open true attachments, you need an application that can handle the data.

  • Help setting up BTinternet email with Apple Mail

    Hello everyone,
I need help setting up a btinternet email account with Apple's Mail sofware. I am setting it up on behalf of my aunt and uncles new macbook pro so I hope i get some solutions quick because Im leaving their place by the end of the weekend and I would love to have their email setup and teach them how to use it.
They have 2 btinternet email accounts, the first one they use alot as its their main email account which is currently setup on MS Outlook on their old computer. The secound one they use rarely and its not setup on MS Outlook.
Heres the problem, when I setup their main email account with apple mail, I have no problem creating the account however once created the inbox is empty - it does not load previous emails. It can send emails fine, if i send an email to the account using my personal email it will receive it but when I switch off the computer and switch it back on the mail box is empty. So I checked the email account by going to yahoo.co.uk and signing in - again even on the web page the mail box is empty.
I then setup the second btinternet  email account on Apple Mail shockingly this works perfectly all the old emails got loaded up in mail. So how do I do this for the main account, I know the difference is Outlook mail but I rather not delete that because if it doesnt work then they would lose all their old emails.
    Please help
    Thanks in advance
PS: ive setup my hotmail and yahoo accounts and they all work fine by the way

Please guys give me something or any random ideas u may have. im running out of time.

  • Secure Emailing with Apple Mail/OS X

    Greetings everyone.
I've been tangled in an email mess for a month now, and I need to resolve it before a hoard of friends and business contacts lose faith in me. All ideas are welcome!
The story so far. Our family has multiple email accounts with a local ISP, vallnet.com. A month ago we finally got satellite internet access through HughesNet.com. We want to keep a cheap account with vallnet, though, and continue using our vallnet email addresses. Vallnet has a procedure for accessing their email servers through another ISP. I followed their instructions, imported their authentication certificate, and was able to download emails.
Sending emails is another matter. I tried every possible configuration for my Mail account smtp settings, and eventually took a MacBook Pro over to vallnet for them to configure. After a few days they returned it. They say that it is impossible to access their secure smtp server using Mail. They say that their system is entirely standard complient, but that Mail or OS X is making some assumptions about protocols that will not work with their server. IS THIS LIKELY? If so, WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT???
They suggested relaying our outgoing emails through HughesNet's server. Hughesnet does not allow this.
Vallnet suggested getting a static IP from HughesNet which they could tell their server to accept. I checked and this would require us to upgrade our service plan with HughesNet, plus pay a monthly fee. This totals around $300/year, so is not an appealing solution.
Vallnet, of course, also points out that most of their clients are using Outlook Express, and if we just used it...... Nope! I love Macs and I'd really prefer to stay with Apple Mail. Is there any hope of this?
I've spent a month wrestling with this mess. I keep calling various company's tech support lines, but there seems to be a universal rule that forbids techs from two companies from consulting with each other. They keep telling me that the problem is not on their end, and spouting technical Jibberish that I try to relay to the next tech on the next call. I'm afraid they all realize I haven't got a clue, and my sanity and sense of humor have just about evaporated.
    Okay, Folks, any ideas?
    Many thanks!

    Hello and thanks.
Yes, at vallnet's suggestion I tried using port 587 and later port 425. No luck. They say that other mail programs are not having difficulties.
They said they had found some articles on the web about how other small ISPs had also had difficulties with secure connections and Apple Mail. I have not found any such articles yet, and they have not forwarded any links to me.
Yes, I have been wondering which set of tech support folks was giving me the biggest runaround. You're probably correct, though I suspect both have been less than enthusiastic about trying.
Yep, we've considered switching email addresses. With several businesses and some personal accounts, this would be a major headache. It seems like a good last resort, but not something that we are happy to do. If we can figure out secure emails, this would be far preferable.
I do appreciate the feedback. I will keep your suggestion in reserve.
    Many thanks!

  • GMail is not working with Apple Mail App: Login correct, says "no e-mails"?

    HI everyone,
I just switched from my iPhone 5 to a new iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.1.2. After I put the latest backup to the new device everything was set up fine. Unfortunately Google Mail doesn't work with the Apple Mail App any more.
I have two factor identification switched on and use the 16 digit long password which I set up with my Google account. The configuration details work (login, password, server details), the account is accepted, no notifications tell me that anything is wrong. The thing is, that the Apple Mail App doesn't show any mails. Also it's impossible to send any emails. The strange thing is, that the GMail App works fine.
I really tried everything: deleted the account setup, changed mail server from m.google.com to smtp.google.com, set up a new app specific password through two factor identification... no emails appear!
With my iPhone 5 I was a lucky user of push email, thanks to Microsoft ActiveSync. So I keep trying to configure the GMail account as an Exchange account (I know that Google switched off ActiveSync some time ago, until now everything worked fine with my iPhone 5, even push mail worked!).
Does anyone of you know how to solve the problem? I don't like the GMail App and really prefer using the iOS Mail App..
    Thanks in advance!

  • OS Update 10.9.1 did NOT fix Gmail syncing issues with Apple Mail App?

Is it just me? Or is anyone else having the same issues of gmail still NOT syncing accross iPad and Mac Mail app in spite of the "update/fix" to OS? My mail on my three Macs and one iPad are still never synced corrctly. When I try "syncronize all mail boxes" in the mail app of the mac, it does not work.
I look directly at my Gmail online thorugh Safari on the Google site and see I have 2 emails in my IN box. Yet on one Mac it has 15 (13 of ehcih were deleted several hours ago). On another Mac it has 18. On the iPad it has it right as that is where I begain looking at end editing email today.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • My rMBP won't fetch emails with the mail app on it's own?

I have a hotmail and yahoo account synced with the mail app but anytime i get an email, i have to manually fetch to be able to see them. All other notifications such as facebook and twitter fetch automatically and on sync time-wise. Does anyone know why i would be having this problem with mail?

  • Can I hyperlink text to open an email in Apple Mail?

    Hi,
Are there the equivalent of URLs for mail in apple mail?  I'd like to click on a link in say a Word document, that would immediately open up a related email, but I can't find out how to get the URL (or whatever it might be called) for an email when I'm in Apple Mail.
I'm thinking this must be possible because in Spotlight results you can click on an email and it will open up.
I hope this is clear.  Anybody know how to get this done?

Found this answer on another forum
Since 10.5 Mac OS has the ability to create links to email messages in the Mac Mail client.
    The link looks like this:
    message://<message id>
There are a few ways to create these links
    1) Easiest way: Drag and Drop an email message from Mac Mail into TextEdit.
       This creates an "message:" link.
When you click on it, that particular email message opens up in Mac Mail
Some other apps, such as iCal, also accept emails dropped onto them via drag-and-drop
    2) Create link manually:
        First, find the Message-ID:
       - View the message as either raw source (Command-Option-U), or with long headers (Shift-Command-H). Find the line that looks something like this:
        Message-Id: <6a73er$[email protected]>
       - You can link to this message from other applications with a URL of this form:
         message://<6a73er$[email protected]>
To test this, try pasting your link into Safari; it should open message in Mail.
Note that browsers other than Safari may not behave the same way
Which apps support the message:// link?
      - TextEdit
      - iCal
      - maybe more
Which apps do not support it?
I could not get these links to work in Pages or MS Word
This article provides more information about the new "message:" url scheme:
       http://daringfireball.net/2007/12/message_urls_leopard_mail
Sharing it here in case someone else would like to do this (although it seems I'm the only one).
Final analysis is that these links can be made but they only work in iCal and Text Edit.  If they won't work (easily) in the programs that I use e.g. Word and Excel etc. then it doesn't work.   Pity.

  • Intranet email with apple mail and windows live mail on LAN

i have a home wifi network and have two computers using it. one is my macbook and other is my toshiba vista laptop. now my bro and i often exchange emails. he uses windows live mail and i use apple mail. since we are on a slow internet connection with limited data usage per month i was wondering if we could email each other directly over our wifi LAN network without having to use our ISP. i know that we wont be able to use our gmail, yahoo or hotmail or other such internet based IDs but maybe we can make a LAN based ID and exchange emails.
    any suggestions?

There's no practical, simple way to do that as far as I know. Apple Mail, like virtually every other mail program is only able to communicate with a mail server, not with another such program.
You would either need to set up a mail server on your LAN (not a trivial task) or you'd have to find a "peer-to-peer" email program and I'm not aware of any such application. Furthermore, in your situation, it would have to be cross-platform (Windows and Mac).
In more technical terms, the email programs we all use are "Mail User Agents" (MUA). An MUA has to communicate with a "Mail Transfer Agent" (MTA), i.e. the email server. An MUA has NO way to communicate directly with another MUA.

  • How to open a ticket with Apple?

Hi there, anyone knows how to open a ticket directly with Apple on Aperture 3.0.3? I am able to reproduce a problem on every occasion...
In aperture, if you Edit a file into Photoshop CS3, close the file from Photoshop and goback to Aperture, try to adjust Exposure.... it will crash all the time... no exception...
    a force quit is necessary...
Thank you so much in advance

if you have a free online developer account you can use http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/ the bug reporter where you will get direct feedback otherwise you can send a feedback http://www.apple.com/feedback/aperture.html but you will prolly not get direct feedback (altho it does get read and dealt with).
    HOWEVER
CS3 is now "out of date". Does it still happen with CS4 or CS5? (not that I am asking you but if you have a friend who can test it it would be great)

  • Can't open PDF email attachments from mail app. (iOS7, iPad2)

Since upgrading to iOS7 I cannot open PDF email attachments from the "Mail" app. The attachment appears as a "tap to download" icon, after downloading it appears as an image of the first page of the PDF. An extended press of the PDF image results in "save image" and "copy" options, but no "open in" option.
I have tried closing and re-opening mail, restarting the iPad, several different attachments. Still no "Open in" option.
    Any help with this?

I work in a support organization and we've seen variations of this issue develop on various iphones and ipads with ios7.  Oddly, not everyone is experiencing this, just some people.
In my own case, I simply downloaded Acrobat Reader for free and can read the things fine.
We use an exchange activesync email server and when each email comes in it indicates at the very bottom that it has been downloaded as plain text and to click to download the entire message.  I've tried clicking to download and not clicking and I can read the PDF either way.
In my own case I can view PDF files and/or also save them by pressing and holding the icon of the PDF in the email.
The other thing one of our end users noticed: if she emailed the PDF directly to her iPhone5 and iPad it would not be readable but if she forwarded it to her offsite Yahoo account and then forward to her corporate email it would open.
I think there's definetely something going on with the formatting of the PDF (was it created by a true Adobe PDF distiller or one of the many clones?), what email application attached it? (Outlook, Eudora, IOS Mail, etc) and how many PDF reading apps are on your IOS devices?
For instance I have the default PDF reader, iBooks, Kindle, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and there may be others that I don't even know has PDF capability.   Only Apple probably has a good idea of how many apps utilize this.

  • Trouble sending out email with E-mail "app"

In order to not  paying any data usage, I called Verizon and have my data access blocked.  However, I still can receive MMS. I have no problem using wi-fi to check my  Yahoo email using the email "app" but I can't send any email out with the same app.   Please help.

I had same issue with not being able to send emails via my Yahoo account (and no problem sending on Hotmail).  As previous post suggested, I deleted the pre-set Yahoo account, then set it up manually as POP account.  Here are the settings that worked for me, I can now send (and receive) on my Yahoo account via WiFi.
    Incoming Host Name: pop.att.yahoo.com
    Outgoing Host Name: smtp.att.yahoo.com
Incoming/Outgoing User Name: Full Yahoo email address, including domain (e.g., [email protected])
    Password: Your password
Now tap the "Advanced" tab on the upper left and set up the port #'s as follows:
Incoming mail port #: 995, secure connection (SSL) checked
Outgoing mail port #: 465, secure connection (SSL) checked

  • How to log into gmail with default Mail app

So my gmail has a 2 step verification option to have it more secure, but the default mail app on my iphone 5S does not give me the option to give a second verification so I can't log in.
They continuously say my password is incorrect because of this...
Any way to fix this please?

After more googline I actually found the solution, I'll post it here in case anyone else has the same problem I had:
You have to go to the double verification setup in browser https://accounts.google.com/b/0/SmsAuthSettings and generate an app specific password, this is the only way it'll work.
