How to open .nef files in cs5

How can a NEF file be opened in bridge camera raw on CS5?

The D7000 was first supported in Camera Raw 6.3.

CS5 shipped with Camera Raw 6.0 and is compatible through to Camera Raw 6.7

Download and install Camera Raw 6.7 and you'll have D7000 Raw support

im using Lightroom v4.4 how can i open NEF files to edit ?

You have to update you LR 4.4 version to LR5.6. Since this version LR is able to open nef - files from Nikon's D810.
The other way is to convert the nef-files to dng.

  • How to open NEF files in PS 7.0 please

Hi I cannot open NEF files in PS 7.0. Any ideas please ?

You have photoshop 7 or photoshop elements 7?
Which operating system are you using?
What camera and model are the camera raw files from?
Unless the nikon nef files are from a very old camera, you can't open any camera raw files into photoshop 7.
And those old camera raw files required a pay for camera raw plugin (camera raw 1.0) from adobe that is no longer available.
There are several third party raw converters out there or you could upgrade (buy photoshop cs6 or subscribe to photoshop cc 2014)
Also , there is adobe photoshop elements and adobe lightroom, both of which are cheaper than buying photoshop cs6.

  • Can't Open NEF files in CS5

I am currently using the Nikon D3200 and I can't update my camera raw plug-in to 7.1 because I am using CS5. On the supported cameras page, (http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html) it says that I need 7.1 in order to open my NEF files, I am currently using 6.7.1... What can I do to edit my photos? (Apart from upgrading to another version of Photoshop)

Download Adobe DNG Converter 8.5 for free. Check system requirements first, you might have to use an older version, like 8.3 if you're on XP or an old OSX.
Install it and run it. Go into Preferences, look for Compatibility settings and change it to ACR 6.6 and later.
Point it at a folder of D3200 NEFs and create DNG copies. You can open these copies in ACR 6.7.

  • How to open .nef files

i'm not being able to view or edit .nef (nikon raw photos) in iphoto or in any other app in my mac book air. does anyone knows what i hav to do to be able to use these files in the mac book?

    D70 has been supported forever.
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
Since ps elements and iPhoto and Capture NX all use *different* raw conversion engines, it really sounds like a file corruption issue.
What program on the PC opens them? Did you add the new Windows RAW support? Until very recently, a PC *couldn't* open RAW files.

  • Elements 10 How I open NEF Files

I Have down loaded up- dates so much so that you will not give me any more.
But I still cannot load NEF Files on to Elements 10 Directly.
It just take a great deal of time down loading & turning them into TIFF files, is there an
alternative without upsetting my bank manager?

    What camera are you using?
If the camera you use requires a camera raw version newer than 6.7
    (camera raw camera support)
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
then you could use the 8.2 dng converter to convert your files to dng copies which pse 10 should then open:

  • How to open NEF(RAW) files transferred from old computer.

I have Elements 10 with latest updates on a new computer(Windows 7). I transferred my picture files from my old computer (XP) that were in My Pictures. Old computer had Elements 3. I can't seem to open NEF files in Elemnets 10. On old computer I was able to highlight a NEF file and then select Open with Elements. I don't see that option with WINDOWS 7. How can I open NEF(RAW) files. Also the thumbnails of the transferred files are not created in Elements 10 organizer. How can I accomplish that?

    Hi,
For opening the NEF files you could try the suggestions in this thread
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/929848?tstart=0
Thumbnails not created: Do you mean there are no thumbnails or just big question marks?
Does the organizer show a count of items in the bottom left of the window?

  • Can't open .NEF files in photoshop or RAW. Help!

I was always able to open .NEF files in RAW when I had my old computer, but I just recently got a new computer and now I can't open them. Does anyone know how to change the settings so that I'm able to open these files in photoshop CS5 Extended/RAW?

Try installing Camera Raw 6.7.1 manually
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update

Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.

In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it.

I have Photoshop CS3 which I have used successfully for a number of years.  I now shoot pics with a Nikon DSLR D7100. When I try to open NEF files the following flag appears: "Could not complete your request because PS does not recognize this file".  What do I need to do to open my NEF files??  Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply, CP
FYI, the file is a photographic panorama based on several .CR2 photos taken in July, 2012 and processed in CS5's camera RAW/Photoshop.  Beyond the metadata, here are no fonts or text in the file.
    1.  I changed Maximize ...File Capability from "Never" to "Always" and the flattened file saved and loaded OK, though I can't figure why given Adobe's description of this option. "If you work with PSD and PSB files in older versions of Photoshop or applications that don’t support layers, you can add a flattened version of the image to the saved file...".  The file saved in this manner is ~8% larger and is not my preference as a routine since I've TB's of photo files.  By the way, out of thousands of .psd/.psb files, the one being discussed is the first to give me the error.
    2.  I've tried saving/reloading the file on another computer with Win XP Sp3/CS5...again with Maximize Capability OFF.  Same problem.  Turn ON Maximize Capability and it works.  As with the Win 8 machine, Bridge could neither create a thumbnail or read Metadata.
    3.  I've purged the Bridge Cache, made sure there were no old PS page files, reset PS preferences, and disabled my 2 plugins with no change in the problem.  Windows and Adobe progs are all updated.  Saving to a different HDD has no effect.
The problem occurs on 2 computers (Win XP/Win 8), two versioins of Photoshop (CS5/CS6), and "Maximize" On/Off togles the problem.  My guess it is a bug in PSD processing routines.
If I can't find a fix, will keep with Maximize ON and deal with the larger files that result...the cost of insurance, I suppose.
    Thanks again

  • Lightroom problems opening NEF files

I used Lighroom 2 and CS4 with no problems for a very long time and then decided to upgrade to Lightroom 3 and CS5 which was a big mistake.
I have had so many problems and don't know what to do.
Lightroom has trouble opening NEF files that I would like to edit in photoshop. I have spent so much time with Adobe Tech support with no improvement, tonight a senior tech spent three hours working with the program and cs5 and I still have problems. They make changes, things seem to be fine and when I restart the computer it goes back to the same issue. Tomorrow another tech will call but the days are going by and I'm not getting any work done. A program that is supposed to improve my workflow is turning into a major inconvenience.
Tonight the program seemed to be working fine for a while, I edited several images and just realized now that they are all corrupted and aren't usable.
In the past few days we trashed lightroom preferences, cs5 preferences, made sure Lightroom and Photoshop and camera RAW are updated. One night I uninstalled cs5 and installed a fresh copy (didn't install any plug-ins to make suer they are not the ones causing the problem), it was working great then I quit both programs and restarted the computer and back to square one, not being able to open a NEF file.
If the Adobe technician cannot solve the issue what are my options, should I go back to Lightroom2 or should I try Lightroom 3 with CS4?
    Thanks,
    Barbara

    Barbara,
The purpose behind setting up a test catalog and new user is to try to find out where things are going wrong.  If you do end up needing a new catalog, there are ways to keep your past work.  You can import from your old catalog into your new catalog.  You can save many of the settings directly into your images (JPEGs or TIFFs) or sidecars (raw files) by using Metadata>Save Metadata to File.  If you do it the second way, you will lose things such as collections that cannot be saved.  But before worrying about that, try the new user and we will work from there.
You may already know this, but no matter what you do, when you retouch an image in PS, you will be creating a new file.  LR does not modify the originals, so a new TIFF will have to be created to save the retouched image.  There is no way to save the retouching to a raw file.
As far as the number of catalogs to create, most people will be best served by having only one catalog.  If you have more than one, you have to be organized and careful not to mix them up.  We have seen a lot of problems caused by people accidently importing images into the wrong catalog and then getting concerned when their images disappeared. Also, it is difficult to search for images when they are in multiple catalogs.
I do use multiple catalogs.  I have to be sure I don't show the wrong images at the wrong times.  I do boudoir and glamour photography that is private and I have to be sure I don't show the images accidently to other clients.  I set up a separate folder for each job and keep the catalog and images in that folder.  After about a year, I burn a DVD of the images and catalog and archive it.  I rarely have to return to a client's file after a year and never have to search across client files.  I also have one large catalog for stock and personal work.  I do need to search across all of those images.  Until you are well-versed and comfortable with using LR, I would recommend keeping it to one catalog.  You can easily split it up later if needed.
Since I have multiple catalogs I keep each catalog with its images for the sake of organization.  My stock images (and catalog) are on an external drive.  I have another external drive for client work.  Each client job has a separate folder on that drive.  The images and catalog for each job is kept in their job folder.
