How to open page in same tab in which I have open previous one?

When I open page with command “firefox.exe http://www.mozilla.com/” and then “firefox.exe http://www.google.com/” pages will open in different tabs. Is it possible to open webpage (or html file) outside browser (from command line or shortcut), and then to open some other webpage(s) or files (using command-line or shortcut again) in same tab as the first one?
On that system I use firefox 3.6.3 and WinXP.

I'm using FF 34.0.5 (I like it). I use to be able to right click on a link, within an e-mail, and the link would open in a new tab. Now when I click on the link it opens in the same tab replacing my e-mail.
Example - a friend sends me an e-mail containing a link to a web site he thinks I'd like. I click on the link and go to the web site and then go back to the e-mail tab and reply to him. Now, when clicking that link, my e-mail disappears and is replaced by the new site.
How can I fix this? When this happened once before I was told to change the 'value' for a specific 'preference name' through the about:config page.
Can anyone help jog my memory?

You can check this pref on the about:config page for external links.

In my iphone, when I open one link of the google search result page, mobile safari always lauch a new tab and load the linke into the new tab.
But I want to make it open in the same tab and actually it does in my wife's iphone.

Hi I have a problem with IE11 on Windows 8.1 Desktop mode which is driving me crazy.
When i click on the open new tab button it will open in the same tab in the same window and you cant go to any website and the website on where on's address is still in the address bar.
Right click a link and select open new tab most of the time opens new window with long pause.
I have tried everything to fix this even re installing windows, but the problem persists after re install as i think its attaching itself to my Microsoft account.
I have disabled all add-ons run virus and walware scans reset IE to defaults removed and re-installed IE all to no avail!
Any help would be much appreciated.

Everytime i click on a link in my email in opens in the same tab, before the update it would open in a seperate tab like i wanted it to. Can someone please help

for instance when i get an email from amazon regarding a special sale, i open the email in outlook and when i would click on a picture or a link it would would automatically open in another tab and allow me to check the rest of my emails in my current tab, now however it opens in the same tab as outlook it doesnt switch almost like when you are searching something on google and the link you choose loads in the same tab which is fine, but this is not, i dont want to have to press the back button to get back into my logged account!!

Buttons / Go to URL / ...
And then export to SWF. When we click on that button it opens the link in a new tab.
How can we make it open in the same tab?

Why can't I scroll or use MMB to open pages in new tab, when I have a PDF file opened in FF4?

If I have a PDF file opened in firefox 4, I am for unknow reason unable to open pages in new tabs with MMB or scroll thepage up or down. The scroll function isn't working at all, and it seems like I'd be scrolling the PDF file, not the page of my current tab.

-1712 is a timed out error. One reported cause (with other applications) is that the application is attempting to open a large number of files, or a file that no longer exists.
Try holding down the shift key when launching preview. This prevents the application from attempting to open windows that were not closed before quitting the application.

Why won't my frames open within the same tab?

I have a very simple site built around one frameset. When I navigate from the links on the main frame to the content, the content opens in a new tab.
Although I have read nearly every forum article about this I can not fix this problem. I certainly must be missing something here.
In any event, yes:
The <body> tag is removed.
It works in both Chrome and Safari.

@Gingerbread_Man I attempted the base element but no luck. The target attributes are pointed to the ''content'' frame wich works correctly in other browsers.
Still stumped, although I imagine I'm missing something very simple.
Please ignore the silly temp names given to each page, I've been getting loopy between this fix and the baby.

Browsers like Safari and Firefox have a contextual menu to allow you to copy a link to the clipboard. Point at a link. Right (contol) click the link to bring up the contextual menu and select the "Copy Link" (or similarly worded - "Copy Link Location" in Firefox, "Copy Link Address" in Chrome) . Then you can paste the link to wherever you want it.

I am using Windows 7 on my desktop and today my Firefox browser opens links from emails in a new browser instead of a new tab.
I do have "open new windows in a new tab instead" , under tools; options, Tabs ticked.
I have tried unticking it and then re-ticking it but neither make any difference.
