How to open PDFs at named destinations with MS-Word hyperlinks?

Hi forum,
In MS-Word you can create hyperlinks
to open local files, (protocol: file://...)
to open websites or (protocol: http://...)
to go to intern bookmarks or so.
Is it possible to open a local PDF this way at a defined point inside it? For example at a named destination or a bookmark...
In a word file I discuss some different PDFs and compare some issues in these PDFs. And so I want to hyperlink some views in the PDFs to illustrate the discussion.

Yes, I think you're right. I tryed the same in the HTML-protocol and it works: example:

It would be nice to find a workaround to use this "addressing" in MS-Office!

I am printing to a single PS file from my wordprocessor. Distiller watches the PS file folder and automatically converts the PS file to PDF. Then nothing happens, despite toggling of the 3 options. Is this universal, does it never work?
When I use a Windows wordprocessor (like MS Word or WordPerfect for Windows) and the Adobe PDF printer driver, then the PDF is automatically opened in Acrobat, but I understand that Distiller is bypassed. Acrobat ignores the product of Distiller -- unless, of course, you doubleclick on Distiller's PDF output icon, or right-click on it and choose View.
Acrobat 7 (I believe it was) opened automatically for us from Distiller. How disappointing if 9 has irretrievably lost this ability.

How do I create a named destination in InDesign?

I want to create a hyperlink from an HTML page that will open a PDF file at a specific point. I'm generating the PDF in InDesign CS5. How do I create the named destination (Objective2) so I can do the following?

Having just completed a phone call with Gaurev Sethi of Adobe escalated technical support in which I shared my screen to explain and demonstrate the desire to link from an external URL to a specific location within a PDF file that has been exported from InDesign, it was determined that the desired functionality is not supported in InDesign and has been identified as a limitation of the software.
In researching alternate documentation software that supports PDF export, I discovered that Madcap Software supports this functionality in its Flare product:

Note that linking via URL to a bookmarked location within a PDF is not supported:

How to open -pdf in a secure environment

Opening PDF files from a secured account on Internet (e.g. telephone billing info) does not work. in Safe as the file is shown as _pdf (underscore instead of dot). We suspect this problem started after installing CS6, but are not sure. Win 7, IE 9, Reader XI

PDF on a regular website can be opened and downloaded. However, PDF on a secure website (https) looks normal with normal icon but double click gives screen for open / save / save as. ‘Open’ gives no result, no error message either. ‘Save’ or ‘save as’ shows screen with filename ending on _pdf, which cannot be opened or saved, no error messages either. Changing the filename into .pdf gives the same reaction: nothing happens, no error messages.
The same files can be opened on a different PC win7, IE9, Reader XI and similar software, but without CS6.

Following information might help you to resolve the issue.
After logging into Desktop Intelligence, you may be presented with a message stating:
u201CYou have received 1 document from users"
Examining the Inbox from within the Desktop Intelligence client shows no objects visible in your Inbox.
The object in your Inbox is in a format other than Desktop Intelligence format such as, PDF, XLS or other format. Therefore the object is not recognized by the Desktop Intelligence client inbox browser.
Log in to Info View or the Central Management Console, browse to your Inbox and verify the file name and format that has been sent to your Inbox. The object may be saved, copied, moved or deleted as necessary.

FrameMaker produces named destinations with random names

Hi all,
when I save a FM-document as PDF, the named destinations do not resemble the element IDs. Rather, the names of the destinations seem to be random numericals. This makes it impossible to link to the PDF from external HTML-documents without manually adjusting the links after each PDF-production.
Is there a way to control the names of the desitnations through output options etc.? This is a production from DITA/XML using Framemaker 7.2 and the DITA OT. Therefore we cannot just add markers in the Framemaker documents because these are generated new during each production run.

Unless you modify your procedure to insert markers, you're going to be out of luck. The only way to get FM to insert a destination that you can explicitly name and find is to use the newlink marker. You also need to be aware that FM will prepend some code characters to this as well depending upon whether the PDF is generated from a book or a standalone file.

You've selected the iPhone on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 then you can enable the sidebar via control-S on a PC), and you've then selected the Books tab on the right-hand side of iTunes and selected those PDFs and clicked on sync/apply to try and copy them over to your phone ? And in the iBooks app on your phone you have 'PDF' selected on the button at the top middle of the bookshelf, not 'Books' ?

Where is the pdf you are trying to open? Is it on the server or the client? If the file is stored on the server then you can access it using WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT assuming it is stored in a place that has a virtual mapping. For example:
WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT ('http://server/someLocation/file.pdf','_blank');If the file is on the client then you need to configure your application to use WebUtil. Then you can do what Francois suggested.

Named Destinations with window.open

I have a ColdFusion application that opens a reference document to a specific point of reference. I had been using an html page with anchors for the reference document but would like to use PDF with named destinations.
The code I am using is from a button click event:

The reflink variable would be something like "myreference.html#myanchor for html and "myreference.pdf#mydestination" for pdf.
The code works fine for html. The click event pops the window and displays the anchor location. Another event will refresh the existing open window with the new location.
With the pdf, the first click works correctly. The second click clears the document view to blank and the first window is effectively hung. If I click again, a new window is opened and the first window remains blank.
If I don't use named destinations, the window is refreshed each time with the pdf file and the not hung. So the problem only occurs when there is a named destination in the URL. But I need named destinations to zoom to the reference location.
This occurs with IE 8.
When I use Firefox, the behavior is different. The window pops correctly, but after the first attempt, it does not navigate to the correct named destination. Any subsequent click event results in the pdf file staying at the existing location.
