Created a project with an InDesign CC trial. Trial expired, would like to continue working on it with my registered CS6 version of InDesign. Problem is that the project will not even open due to a lack of backwards compatibility. Even tried to uninstall and re-install after hearing about a trial restart offered back in January, not working. Any ideas?

That would be great, except for the fact that all of my project files are on one machine. So that would not solve my issue. Unless I am unaware of a way to move my entire project without the original files

Check you have the files installed.
Go here:
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Logic/Logic Studio Demo Songs
There should be a folder called [The Numbers Game]
If it's not there, then maybe you didn't install the demo content when installing Logic Studio.

How To Archive Encore CS3 projects

Question: How To Archive Encore CS3 projects
I edit my AVI files in Premiere Pro CS3 and then author in Encore CS3. When the project is finished, I want to archive both the Premiere and Encore projects. If I need to restore a project, I would recapure the AVI files from the mini DV tapes using Premiere.
What Encore and Premiere files and folders do I have to save so I can later restore the project?
What files and folders can I erase?

Adobe Premiere Pro is very similar to Final Cut Pro (non-X). It has a number of pros, including being bundled with the Creative Suite, which includes Photoshop.
Avid Media Composer is, IMHO the best "story telling" editor, but is a little more difficult and unwieldy when it comes to effects etc. In addition to being pricey, it also require compliance with the use of only AVID approved hardware.
Autodesk has Smoke on the Mac, which is an excellent effects editor, but with a $17K price tag.
My personal plan is to bunker my FCS 3 systems and run them until they drop, while slowly and comfortable migrating to Premiere Pro.
One big advantage to either of these editors (with the exception of Smoke on the Mac) is that they are cross-platform, so if you learn the Mac version you can switch easily to the PC version - which protects your investment of time in learning the softwre as the future for the Mac Pro is also hazy.

How to Open PPro CS4 project in PPro CS3?

I have to make hundreds of individual avis from a Ppro CS4 project. In CS4 the Media Encoder has to open up for each one and then I must wait til it loads the clip and then I can keep them in queue and do many at once but it takes forever. Is there any way to open this project in CS3 so I can simply export movie files one after the other (without that horrible media encoder)?

Unfortunately, there is almost zero backward compatibility. I did find that Encore CS3 Projects could be Opened, with few issues, in my EncoreDVD 2.0, but that was surprising, and not of help to you.
Now, one can use a bit of a workaround, if such is required. One can edit loosely in CS4 (remember, you will want Handles), or edit very tightly with all Transitions, knowing that those will not be changed in CS3. When done, Export (for SD Projects, either the DV-AVI Type II, or Lagarith would be good), and then Import that into CS3.
Also, an EDL might be useful. There is another option, similar to EDL, that starts with an A, but my mind has gone blank. Others will be quick to offer that, and tell you if it would be useful in your case - sorry.

Opening large cs3 project in cs4

i am attempting to open cs3 project in cs4. i have opened and imported. with both i get an error message.
error.... audioRender/AudioRenderContentConstructor.opp-110
i cannot find this one on the net.
can anyone explain? any hints on how to import?

I have no idea what sort of problem the error message refers to. It implies something funky with the audio content in the CS3 project
The single time I imported a half finished CS3 project into CS4:
I opened a new project in CS4
Right click in the project window> import> select the CS3 project file
CS3 project file appears in the Project window
I double clicked it and it opened right up. Finished the edit in CS4 & output to delivery format with Export> Media> to AME
Audio in this project was standard 48k stereo tracks.

How to open 8.0 project from generated files

Hello-
Is there a way to work from generated files in a project after it is published?? We lost the 'originals' which were on a hard drive that got zapped. Now I am scrambling to figure out how to open it when I can't see the xpj file???
I know this has come up before - but I am having a mental block. Will keep searching on the posts.

It looks simple to open period in Projects. But I am not sure about the exact steps.
I observed the below...
when I opened GL Period, it automatically opens PA period. Is that the way the module behaves?
What is the use of 'Copy from GL' button and 'Set Reporting Period'.
What is the exact procedure to open PA period ?
I can see that the status field is greyed out in Maintain PA period statuses. Please advise.

There are two periods in PA, one is GL Period and other is PA period
you can decide whether to manitain common periods between GL and PA ( It is a check box in Projects Implementation options)
Incase you set it as common, then whatever calendar is defined in GL will appear in GL period form and also in PA period window
Copy from GL button in PA period form resembles to copy the periods defined in the GL to PA period ( for example: the GL calendar is defined say till end of 2013, you have copied to PA period, so PA period also has till end of 2013) after a while GL team adds the calendar periods for 2014, when you click on copy from GL, then copies remaning periods that weren't copied earlier
Check box Reporting period is something which you set to make sure all your Project status Inquiry details, reporting details are considered
for example: you have set March 2013, then when you run PRC: update project summary amounts then updates all the project details till the period of March-2013

How to open PPro CC project in PPro CS6?

I have upgraded to CC on my home machine, but filmmakers that I work with have decided to continue using CS6. I have put together a rough cut of a recently shot film in my PPro CC program - how do my colleagues open this project in their PPro CS6 program so they can continue the work?
I'm assuming this is possible since Adobe is officially continuing support of both CS6 and CC versions of PPro.

It is a very valid assumption. Adobe has created a world in which their customers are heavily split between the CS6 version and the CC version of their products. This means that in order for continued seamless collaboration between project personel to occur, project files created in one version need to be readable and usable in the opposite version.
If this doesn't get fixed, then that means all CC subscribers who collaborate with CS6 users will be forced to also purchase and install CS6 versions of the same software, and to work on collaborative efforts entirely in the CS6 versions.
And if I, as a CC subscriber, am having to do all of my work in the CS6 versions of the products, then subscribing to the CC versions of the products is a waste of money for me.
Either Adobe fix this, or CC subscribers who collaborate with CS6 users such as myself will simply cancel the CC subscriptions and revert back to CS6.
Thank you for your thoughts on exporting to FCP XML - that isn't going to work for my needs.

I know I should be able to open earlier versions in CS6 but when I try, it opens and the InDesign pages are blank. I also have idml files that will not open as showing anything in 6. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Ask in the ID forum and provide more info on what you actually have on the pages, system info and all that.

How to open a multitrack project recorded in Protools in Logic 9

Howdy folks -
My band just recently recorded a multitrack project in Protools 10 that we'd like to import or open in Logic 9 for overdubs and the final mix and master. I haven't a clue how to do this. I've heard Protools will export or save to .omf which can then be opened in Logic. Or alternatively the Protools can render the tracks as audio files which can then be opened/imported to Logic. But how exactly does one go about this?

Apologies for the late response. Thanks for your assistance. The OMF method worked. However, there were a couple of unanticipated issues.
Have used it on two songs so far.
1) on both songs each audio file was cut off before the end of the song
2) on the second song the audio files appeared 2 plus hours into the project!
It took a while but I discovered in the Sample Viewer that the end point of each audio file was set about a minute short of the actual end. Issue solved by dragging the end point to the actual end. Performed this on each file.
Second issue was more difficult because upon opening the .omf the tracks appeared but not the audio files. Opened the file a few times before noticing that the project time said two hours plus. After scrolling all the way to the end I saw the files and drug them to the beginning of the project. Again had to go into sample viewer to adjust the end point of each audio file. Fortunatley there were just 8 audio files per song and this wasn't some 96 track film score :-)
Whether this is a Pro Tools issue or a Logic issue is unclear. I described the issue to my producing partner as he created the omf files and he had no idea.
Anyone else experience this?

I'm on 8.7.1 at the moment, I will be updating to 8.8 shortly. Right now, in fact. Yes, you will need to set Camera Raw to open your images as smart objects in Photoshop. Then you simply double click the smart object to re-open in ACR.
