How to open recovered backup files

Hi, my hard drive to back up files using time machine was dropped and broken. I sent it to a professional to recover all the data and he moved them to a new external hard drive. The thing is I can't open all of the files. I can see all the folders and files but some of them are marked exec or when I open them, it says they could not be opened because they are empty. I'm just wondering how to open the files. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

I actually had no clue what the core problem was caused by. So it's Windows itself...that helps some.
I'll resubmit there. It might actually have saved time for it to simply have been moved to there instead of off-topic, though I suppose you have to follow protocol.

You can't download pictures from iCloud by logging into icloud.com. If you deleted pictures from camera roll AND photo stream, the only possibility is preforming a restore from an iCloud backup, assuming the backup has the pictures in it. (Many users have been unable to restore and get back their pictures.)
If the restore doesn't have all the pictures, then they are gone.
In the future, use photo stream to sync photos from an iPhone to a computer, then copy the photos on the computer from the photo stream album into a permanent album. Photo stream pics stay there only for 30 days, and only up to 1000 photos are stored. Don't use photo stream as a storage medium, it's only for copying photos from one device to another. Always copy (either via USB cable or photo stream) to a computer and then move to an album.

JAR files are for older java phones, they dont work on BB10

How do I recover lost files off my external WD Passport hard drive with Time Machine?

I have been backing up my Macbook Pro with Time Machine and my Western Digital Passport since May 2010. I accidentally deleted my music in February of 2011, but had backed it up with Time Machine. Now when I try to go back and recover the files in Time Machine, they are gone. Nothing is available past June 2011. How do I recover those files?

About TM "Backup Drive is Full"
Alert TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Time Machine "thins" it's backups; hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first of the day; those "daily" backups over 30 days old, except the first of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there's room.
So, how long a backup file remains depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming you do at least one backup per day. If it was there for at least 24 hours, it will be kept for at least a month. If it was there for at least a week, it will be kept as long as there's room.
Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive.

if not check under settings > iCloud > storage > manage storage and see if there is a backup of the iPad from when the document was still saved
if there is restoring your iPad form that backup may recover it

if there is not then check to see if it is still saved on any other computers or devices to see if it is saved there

I would try the following, in order
Have your operating system search your entire hard disk(s)
If that doesn't find the files, restore from backup
If you don't have backups then perhaps you should consider making backups of both your catalog file and your photos from now on
Locate, download and install and run an "undelete utility" (freeware versions are available) -- if you are going to do this, do it immediately, do not perform other tasks on your comptuer

Do you have an iTunes backup?
Do you have an iCloud backup?
If the answer to both questions is 'no', then you cannot restore the data to your device, other than maually re-entering everything.

afaik no you cant as its in a format that the PC cant read. Someone correct me if im wrong, but the Nokia PC Suite is the only program that knows how to interperate the data. Hang on The PC suite backs up to outlook so yes you should already be able to view contacts. Lifeblog should be able to show you text messages and pictures.
So the answer is yes but only if you have backed it up fully. As with a backup file I couldnt say with all certainty. I guess it depends on what the file contains.
