How to open several psdfiles simultaniously in Camera Raw 8.1

I've replaced my Ps 5.5 by Ps 6.
Now I'm having problems with opening psd files in Camera Raw; in Ps 5 I worked from Bridge and could open that type of files from Bridge to ACR.
I just found out how to open it in Photoshop: open as....RAW file.
But I want several psd-files opening in ACR simultaniously, because I want to synchronise them.
That is not possible; I can only select just 1 file.
How to handle this?

If you can open even one PSD file in ACR, you should be here answering questions - not asking them.
I am also confused by your Photoshop version numbers.  Do you mean CS5.5 and CS6   There was no CS5.5, although there was a Creative Suite CS5.5 which obviously contained Photoshop.  Or are you talking about early versions of Photoshop?  PS5.5 (Strange Cargo) was released in February 1999 and PS6 (Venus in Furs) in September 2000, but Camera RAW support didn't arrive till version 7.0.1 in August 2002.
ACR can open RAW files, plus JPGs and TIFFs, but not PSD files.

How to open JPG, TIFF files in camera raw from Elements 10 organizer.

Thanks for that Damead, I agree with you that Organiser is real pain (there is a total lack of intuitiveness if that is  the correct word).
For my own work I use 'Lightroom' for around 90% of the time, only going into PSE10 for the 10% difficult bits the Lightroom can't handle.
I only needed to sort out the JPEG file opening method within PSE10 for some freinds in a small Photo Group that I run in Woodhall Spa, UK. 50% of the 12 members are beginners & a number of them do not have Raw capability on their Camera's, but now they can get their JPEG's into Camera Raw within PSE10 they have the same simple tabular form of adjustment sliders (not as many as in Lightroom of cause) but it gets over the labourious problem of going thru the PSE10's individual tool selection process each and every time since we are trying to get everyone in the Group working with individual Tools rather than the 'Auto' functions. We do this so that they learn what they are doing rather than staying 'dumb&happy' within Auto all the time & they also learn how to get more detailed control for each photo.
Ref. your comments on file handling/usage, I agree with your comments. Its far and away much more preferable to set up a file structure in 'Finder" (or in 'Explorer' if still using Windows) that you understand so you always know how to find the files. Also, I also never ever use the Camera Auto Load programme but physically 'drag & drop' photo files direct from the 'card' into the file system so I always know thier place (ie: they go into the location I want, not that which the Auto Loader wants).
As regards your comment about 'Lightroom', I don't have any problems at all since I just imported the whole of my photo file structure into the Lightroom Library Catalouge and then it automatically shows up on the LHS of the screen, still in that format, so you can search it direct within Lightroom and display all of the photo's in variuos arrangements and sizes; everything is as easy to find as it is in 'Finder' plus of cause you have all the 'Tagging' possibilities to use as well. As you add more new files into the 'Finder' structure, all you need to do in Lightroom is reimport, starting 1 level up from the new files and Lightroom will find the new files that need loading (ignoring the older ones already in the Library at that or lower levels) then 1 click and its done.
Your comments about getting others to follow a set file structure is very pertinant and also applies to evrything else that one ever does apart from just photo work; the times I have had to help others find info/files etc on their PC's because they don' know the location of anything is too many to contemplate.

  • How to open multiple jpgs in Adobe Camera Raw PSE 9 Mac

I am using Adobe Elements 9 on a Mac.  I can open a single jpeg file in ACR with the file open command.  There is no "Open As" in my version, probably because this is the Mac version.  But, there is an additional dialog which allows me to open the jpeg file and select "Camera Raw" as the type.  This opens the jpg in the raw editor.
But, when I select multiple files to open, the type dialog vanishes.  Rather than opening the files in ACR, they are stacked in the main editor.  I don't have this problem opening multiple dng files - just multiple jpg files.  Multiple jpg files will not open in ACR.
I then went to the organizer, which replaced Bridge?  In Bridge, I read there is a command to open multiple files in ACR or use the cmd-R.  However, I am not seeing an open in ACR command in the organizer, just open in editor.  Opening multiple jpg files in the organizer stacks them into the editor, not ACR.  And, typing cmd-R brings up Red Eye reduction, not Raw Editing.
Is there a trick to this which I am missing?

Thanks Terry! I’ve been using this for a few years and settled on the somewhat more flexible approach… As you mentioned, Bridge offers an explicit command to open a JPEG or TIFF in Camera Raw, which I do, but then with a press of Shift I can open that JPEG as a smart object and revisit CR controls for further adjustment at any time later in the process.

  • How to open a jpg file in camera raw in Photoshop CC (2014)?

I know i can do it via bridge but do i also have some option than using bridge?

You can open a jpeg or tif into camera raw from photoshop by using:
    File>Open As>Camera Raw (windows)
File>Open and change the Format to Camera Raw (mac)
You can also open any open document into the camera raw filter
    Filter>Camera Raw Filter
If you want all jpegs or tifs to always open in camera raw, you can go to Photoshop(Edit)>Preferences>Camera Raw
and set Jpeg and Tiff handling to Automatically Open All

  • How do I open my TIF file into Camera Raw from Bridge?

Trying to follow a tutorial on editing an HDR image in photoshop. When instructed to open the TIF image into Camera Raw from Bridge, I don't get the option when I right click. What is going on here?

I was talking about an advanced action, which is not loaded externally but executed on runtime (will be translated to AS). So this will only work if you can pass the value of the variable containing the slide number you want to the SWF. For that you'll need JavaScript and I'm not that acquainted with JS. Have a look at Jim Leichliter's blog:
    http://captivatedev.com/series/captivate-javascript-series/
In Captivate you create an advanced action to be triggered on entering the first slide, that will jump to the wanted slide number. If you can figure out how to pass the slide number, could help with the advanced action, I know them rather well:

  • Photoshop Opens 8bit TIFF files as Camera Raw

My normal workflow consists of opening RAW files in ACR, making adjustments, then moving on to Photoshop where I apply retouching and build clipping paths. I then save the file as an 8bit TIFF. I rarely reopen these 8bit TIFFs again, but when I did so recently what I encountered was not what I expected.
My Photoshop (CS6) is opening 8bit TIFF files as Camera Raw when selected by "right click" followed by "Open with Photoshop CS6". I remember being able to open 8bit TIFF files directly in Photoshop, but I think this change has occurred since installing CS6.
Again, files in question began as 16bit Raw files, but were worked on in Photoshop CS6 (retouching) and saved with clipping paths. This would reduce them to 8bit files. When placed in page layout, clipping paths work properly, confirming that paths are intact.
When I want to open the files again - say from Bridge or a Finder window - by the method "right click - Open with Photoshop CS6", the file is opened first in Camera Raw, and then in Photoshop, and the path(s) is missing.
I can open these TIFF files and access Paths but only if I locate and select the file from within Photoshop (File/ Open.../). The Open window gives "Format" as Camera Raw (which it isn't, having been saved as 8bit file). If I override  format to "TIFF", the file opens with clipping path shown.
What might be going on here and how can I correct it?

I set the preference to automatically open JPEGs and TIFFs with settings.
That's the reason for Adobe Camera Raw being automatically used to open TIFFs which were previously sent from ACR to Photoshop. The TIFFs have ACR settings because they originated as images generated from raw files by ACR. If you don't want ACR to be invoked when opening such files by a right-click then set the preference to "Disable TIFF support".
    DaleH wrote:
I didn't manually set the bit depth.
When I saved the file with a clipping path it automatically dropped down to 8bit.
That's not happening here with CS6. 16 bits per channel are maintained when saving TIFF from Ps, regardless of there being a clipping path. Are you certain that the ACR workflow options definitely said 16-bit, as shown below, when ACR initially generated the images from raw and passed them to Ps?

  • CS6 32-bit HDR files open as 8-bit in Camera Raw 7.3

As the title says my 32-bit HDR files open as 8-bit in Camera Raw 7.3.  I have a Win 7 32-bit system.  I create the 32-bit HDR and then save it as a 32-bit TIFF but when I open it in PS CS6 via Camera Raw 7.3 it comes in as only 8-bit.

As far as i know acr won't output an 32 bits/channel file (hdr), but you should be able to change acr so photoshop gets a 16 bits/channel image by clicking on the
Workflow Options at the bottom of the acr dialog and set the depth to 16 bits/channel.

  • Open with External Editor Adobe Camera Raw = HOW?

When I export a RAW file to the External Editor (I've chosen Photoshop CS3) I would like for it to open in Adobe Camera Raw, just like any RAW file that I open in Photoshop outside of Aperture.
However it bypasses Adobe Camera Raw and opens directly in Photoshop.
I have the "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files" and "for Supported RAW files" boxes checked in the Photoshop Prefs.
I see some chatter about Hot folders and Automator around here, but no definitive answer/workaround.
If Aperture doesn't support exporting to Adobe Camera Raw, it is a HUGE leg-up for Lightroom in the RAW workflow department.
Please tell me I'm missing a checkbox somewhere... Thanks.

    buttermaker wrote:

You're not missing a checkbox, you're missing a fundamental issue of how Aperture (and LightRoom for that matter) work.
When you use the Open in External Editor command, Aperture will convert the RAW file, apply any adjustments you have made, and send the resulting PSD or TIFF file to the external editor.
The original file is NOT sent and there is no option to do so. Why not? Because Aperture Versions do not exist as discrete image files - the adjustments are shown on-the-fly each time you view it, saving on the space taken up by multiple TIFF/PSD/JPEG files for each Version. As ACR uses a totally different RAW conversion & adjustment engine from Aperture, Aperture wouldn't be able to display any changes made in ACR without including the entire conversion engine of ACR, which Adobe might not be too happy about...
In other words, if you want to use a different RAW convertor you will have to export the Master, convert it in the other app, and then import the resulting 'normal' image file back into Aperture. The same is true for LightRoom.

Sindbad. A suggestion, to let us know all the specifics of your machine: go the the help menu, and select System Info...
Copy the contents, and paste it in an answer there.
You might want to remove your serial number.
Thanks to that we will know: the exact version of Photoshop, your memory, where Photoshop is installed, the graphic card and its drivers, and also if you are using third party plug-ins.
Some other users reported that when launching Photoshop holding down the shift key (this disables the plug-ins), he was able to see the images.
The solution in that case is to search for updated plug-ins (or to report the plug-in manufacturers that their plug-ins causes issues in Photoshop.

  • How can I set double-click of JPGs to open in Photoshop instead of Camera Raw?

Like the title of this topic says, how can I set up Bridge so that double-clicking a JPG opens it directly in Photoshop, instead of going through the intermediary Camera Raw dialog box first?
And yes, I do have my File Type Associations for all JPGs set to open in Photoshop.
I also have Camera Raw preferences set to NOT "always open JPEG files with settings using Camera Raw".
I'm using Bridge 2.1.1.9 and Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.2 on Intel.

First double check if you have the options in the prefs indeed unchecked.
If so restart Bridge holding down option and choose the refresh preferences option, reset the prefs again to your wishes and restart Bridge.

  • Photoshop cs6 opens some jpg always in camera raw , how can i avoid it?

    Hi
photoshop opens some jpg files 3 (i have a folder with 60 pics raw and jpg ) and it opens always via camera raw
    i don't know why
but is there a way to avoid it?
i mean i want to open these 3 files like other jpg files , directly in photoshop
    thanks

There is a setting that you can change that affects whether Camera Raw is the preferred method for opening JPEGs...
In Photoshop, go to the Preferences - Camera Raw configuration entry, and look here:
When set to the middle entry ("Automatically open JPEGs with settings") it will use Camera Raw again by default if you've used it before to open the JPEG.  Personally I prefer the Disable setting.
