How to operate Toontrack with Logic Pro?

Macbook Pro:  Mac OS X 10.7.2:  Logic Pro 9.1.6.: Toontrack Solo 1.3.2 /Superior Drummer 2.3.0 / Custom & Vintage Presets:
Situation question: I have set a library VST path, can record MIDI notes in Logic Pro, see it but not able to hear it in playback due to no audio file captured even though I directed an audio recording file pathway.  When contacting Toontrack the best advice they could give was to make certain I was launching in AU at which I have launched in both MIDI and then tried again Audio recording with input and recording enabled yet am operating MIDI so this leaves me uncertain about the whole thing. I'm on a serious deadline to record tracks from my Roland V-drum kit.  Recap:  I can hear and see Toontrack nicely with the Roland kit, can see MIDI recording within Logic Pro but no playback or audio files found in the library I have set, if this makes any sense. Please be generous in your reply since I haven't taken a course in how to operate LP.  Thank you...

Your Trying to create an audio track from Midi
1) You can use the Bounce in Place feature,  (Right Click on region--Bounce/Merge---Bounce In Place
2) Bounce in the Master fader --Mute all except Superior, set in amd out times, Bit depth...etc
Make sure you drag to an Audio Track after BIP
See picts works fine for me
1-bounce in place
2-Master fadeer bounce

I am recording with Logic Pro X, using my Yamaha XS8 keyboard as a Midi controller. I also have a Thunderbolt Display. Every time I play and release a note on the keyboard, the Thunderbolt Display speaker emits a doink sound. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop? My sound is running through the Saffire Pro 40 Interface (Focusrite) into external speakers with powered amps.
Also, When I record I am hearing little pops in the system. I have checked all of my meters and they are not clipping. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop?

Thanks for the response, but I do not have a midi interface. I am using a midi to usb connector cable, thus bypassing the need for a Midi interface.
The Mac reads the USB cable as a midi device, but not the keyboard that I am trying to use as a controller. I have tried it with my korg sp 300 and with my Nord Electro 2.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,

    Tristan...
This is what you have, correct?
    http://www.alesis.com/usbmidicable
    This from Alesis..
"The AudioLink Series USB cable receives and outputs MIDI signal thanks to its internal interface. The USB-MIDI Cable connects plug-and-play to your Mac or PC for an all-in-one USB-MIDI solution."
Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

I would like to be able to quickly bounce down my mixes,  through the Zed outputs.

    Pancenter...
Yes... but I have come across some setups that came with a native SL (and even one Lion!) installation.. that somehow had a corrupted or older Prokit installed for some unknown reason... and given it's a quick fix to try.. I thought I'd mention it..
I frankly don't think it is entirely a Prokit issue itself, but it wouldn't do any harm to try and install v7 just in case it is part of the problem...
    +1 on the UAD stuff....
Also, at the time it crashed... according to the logs...the OP was running Ableton Live at the same time, presumably rewired with Logic... so add all that together with UAD plugins... and that's quite a load on the system...
Finally in thread 32 there is a weird exception msg relating to the Trash2 plugin.. that I haven't seen before...

  • How to set up Firestudio Project with Logic Pro 9

Getting a bit frustrated with this stuff!
I have the system listed below, just purchased a Firestudio Project and can't get audio into Logic Pro.  The software that comes with the device records but not with Logic Pro!
I assumed it was an easy thing to get running as most is with my Mac but I am getting frustrated!

I use the local off method but there is another way.
Go to Settings/MIDI and use the  "Instrument Without MIDI Thru Function" selector to pick the device and channel your hardware keyboard is transmitting on.
Settings are on a Per Song basis, they're not global like Preferences are.

  • Questions about Novation Remote 25SL integration with Logic Pro 8

Preface: I have to apologize in advance if this seems somewhat confusing. I'm sure some of the terms I'm using are just plain wrong - I'm somewhat of a n00b.
I have a Novation Remote 25SL configured to use AutoMap with Logic Pro 8 from Novation's website and most things are working well. It's confusing at times because sometimes I find it hard to tell what mode the keyboard is in, but that's ok - it's the least of my worries. Based on what I've seen through reading the manuals and my own experimentation, I have a couple of questions:
    - Despite what the guy at the store told me, I can't seem to figure out how to select different kits from within the SL. For example, if I have a garageband instrument selected on a track - can I use the data/select knob on the SL as it is now, or do I have to program that somewhere, somehow? Or if I have Ultrabeat on a track, can I use the knob to select the different kits/banks?
    - Is there a way to control non-Apple AU plugins like the rest of those which ship with Logic? All the sexy looking ones like Ringshifter, Compressor, Overdrive, etc. It seems odd that Remote will go into Mixer Automap mode and be able to control the certain portions of the instruments, but not the plugins that are automatically loaded into the channel strip when the instrument is loaded.
    - I have a 25 key Remote. In Ultrabeat, I find the key maps miss a chunk of notes between where the drum pads end and where the keyboard starts (or vice-verse). Is there a way to get it so each key has a mapping? 25 keys in Ultrabeat, 25 keys on the board plus 8 drum pads - seems like there's lots of room.
Thanks in advance for all your feedback.

    Follow-up research:
Apparently there is a driver conflict between the AlphaTrack and the ReMOTE. So far I have got the ReMOTE working - sort of - in Logic using the following method which was published at Novation's Answerbase:
    1. disconnect the alphatrack.
    2. launch Logic and then turn on the ReMOTE SL.
    3. Go into the Environment window, and add a Monitor Object. Connect it to the Remote SL's ports 2 and 3.
So far, this seems to at least get MIDI note input into Logic, but the Automap function seems a bit sketchy so far. This will depend on Novation updating Automap and the SL's firmware for Logic 8.
As noted previously, there doesn't seem to be any AlphaTrack support in Logic 8 yet and it's up to Apple to make it work. They do support their TranzPort product, so with luck there'll be support in the next update.
I'd really love to use BOTH control surfaces with Logic simultaneously -- the AlphaTrack with the Mixer and plugins, the ReMOTE with Software Instruments. I suppose it might take some interesting mapping but this doesn't seem like that strange a setup -- there are plenty of "mixer surfaces" like the M-Audio one, and the Novation Automap stuff is quite popular....

So, uh, lucaz...a compressor in Logic Pro is for audio signals. Totally differnt animal. Very worthwhile, but not going to collaborrate with Logic Pro in any way that I think you're looking for.

  • Alesis Midi Controller Keyboard setup with Logic Pro 8

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me... I'm a complete newbie!
Recently bought a Macbook with Logic Pro 8 and would like to get set up for some home recording. The keyboard I want to use as a midi controller is the Alesis QS6 which has been in the wardrobe for some time. I have a Midiman USB midi interface.
When I connect it all up, I can't get it to make any sounds from Logic, only from the keyboard itself, which I don't want. A friend suggested taking out one of the midi cables so now I have only Midi out from the keyboard running into Midi in on the Midiman. When I play the keyboard the notes register on the Transport bar and I can even record them but I cannot hear anything.
Can anyone tell me what settings I need to have on the Alesis? Should the Keyboard Mode be on Normal, CH Solo or Out 1,2,3...16? I read somewhere I need to turn General Midi off, does this sound right? Is it something to do with midi channels - I don't even know how to tell which midi channel is selected in Logic.
If anyone has experience with using the QS6 with Logic I would love to hear from you!!!
    Thanks!

Run the Audio/MIDI Setup utility. Is your keyboard/MIDI interface displayed in there?
If not, OSX does not see your MIDI device. Install it's drivers if it has them. If it doesn't have any drivers, your MIDI config might have got hosed. What keyboard is it?
Unplug and replug it, directly, don't use a hub. Does it show up in the AMS utility now? Try powering it for an adapter, not from USB.
If you still get no joy, I'll give you some procedures to try...

  • USB Interface Not Working With Logic Pro 9

    Hello,
I've had a Tascam US-1641 for several years now with absolutely zero issues on my old PC. Ever since I upgraded to Mac (early 2011 17 inch Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard) I've had nothing but problems with the US-1641. No matter how many times I uninstall-reinstall the drivers and what USB port I plug it into, whenever I turn on the device and it's connected to my Macbook, it crashes my operating system and it freezes everything I was doing. Logic Pro doesn't load and when it sometimes does (10 minutes later), it immediately crashes when I click anything.
I've tried several tips to fix it and nothing worked. The most popular choice was select the default input/output in Logic to the system audio, then quit Logic, turn on the interface, then restart Logic. No such luck. I have to reboot my machine at least 5 times, uninstall/reinstall the driver and hope it works to use the interface. I thought it was the operating system, so I upgraded to Mountain Lion and installed the new driver for Mountain Lion, after of course deleting the other drivers and removing all previous data, and it is still giving me the same problems.
I don't have the money to afford a replacement model or a different interface from a different company, so I'm hoping you guys can help me figure out what exactly it is that's causing the interface to freeze my operating system and crashing my Mac whenever I try to use it. I am getting extremely frustrated at this and as much as I love OSX and Logic, what good is this piece of software if I can't use it? I need help.
    Thank you.

The problem lies with Tascam and their inability to write stable drivers for OS X...  and isn't anything to do with Logic Pro ..
As you know, you are not the only person to have had this issue and the reality is, while the 1641 might work fine with  Windows, when it comes to OS X Macs.. it's an entirely different story... depending on the version of OS XS you are running.
    The one tip I have read, that seemed to fix it for most people.. (Though not all) is as follows;
    (Thanks to Paulypaulpaul for this)
    -uninstall your tascam driver 2.10
    -restart
    -install driver 1.03
    -restart
    -plug in your tascam
-goto where you download your drivers (http://tascam.com/product/us-1641/downloads/), scroll down to the bottom where it says firmware, Download the firmware 1.02 (3rd from top under firmware), install it. your control panal should now read 1.03 for your drivers and 1.02 for your firmware.
    -install drivers 2.10
    -restart
Follow each of the steps exactly.. including all restarts when indicated..
    ...and good luck...

  • How to record guitar in Logic Pro 8

    Hi,
Well, I´ve got a Mac Mini, Logic Pro 8, Audio Kontrol 1 audio interface, and an acoustic guitar. What I would like to do is to record my guitar songs into Logic Pro 8 and add other sound effects. My problem is, however, that I can´t figure out how to record guitar using Logic Pro 8. In the "Preferences" I choose "Core Audio" as device. I connect my guitar into the audio interface (Audio Kontrol 1) and from the audio interface to my Mac Mini using an USB.
When I start playing, Logic Pro is silent. When I record, there is no sound. What is even more strange is that GarageBand is working perfect! So I guess it has something to do with the settings in Logic Pro 8. So, I ask you guys...do you know have to solve this problem? If so, I would be very grateful!
    Best regards,
    Tor

    Thanks guys!
I will try this as soon as I come home!
I will let you know how it works.

Well, I mentioned the aggregate audio device since I saw this article. Is this possible for me? Why should I do this?

  • Help with Logic Pro 8 Outputs

    Hi
Struggling with something that i imagine is very simple but just cant work it out! Please help me.
I will be using Logic 8 within a live environment and need to basically get various audio tracks 'out' of logic via my interface into a mixing desk.  I have 8 sub outs on my interface which is fine for me. (prob lots of people do this also with a mixing desk in the studio environment for intergration with the desk and outboard gear so i 100% sure it can be done!)
Prob 1 is that the track sub outs in logic come in stereo pairs. If i want bass to go to output 1 , and kick for eg to go to output 2, how can i do this???? Is there a way to change the track outputs to mono?
Prob 2 is that if i change the outputs in one session, for example click to output 3 - 4, vocals for example to output 5 and 6, then save the session, close and reopen, they have all reverted to output 1 and 2. In a live situation it is annoying to have to change these before each song starts!
I play in a electro band that incorperates live drums, analog synths, logic audio (backing tracks kinda thing) aswell as live instruments, and finding logic pretty challenging to use for this!! We are flat broke and cant afford new stuff so have been living with it but we are now starting to need more outputs (for the benefits of live mixing , ie not giving the engineer a stereo out) . Surely the mixer in logic is capable of these totally bog standard audio routing options?!?!?
    Thanks alot for any help

So here's the problem. I went on a shopping spree recently and purchased an 8-core Nehalem 8-core Mac with 14 GB RAM, Apogee's Symphony system (With Rosetta 800 and AD-16X), and I use this gear with Logic Pro 8.
I still get system overload messages. Sometimes with only 1 virtual instrument and 8 audio tracks!
What gives? I'm running the fastest machine on the fastest system with the fastest/cleanest hardware.
I'm running Logic Pro on all of its highest settings (like it should).
    ?It's highest settings?
Do you mean the sample buffer is at 32 or 1024.
Even though you have Apple's flagship system it's still possible for Logic to bring it to it's knees. High sample rates plus a couple of space designer reverbs can send a single core into an overload condition.
    Try these settings under Preferences/Audio.
    I/O Buffer Size - 256
    Process buffer - medium
Do NOT have the I/O Safety Buffer selected.
    More info.
What sample rate and bit depth are you recording at? ie: 48kHz, 24-bit?
When you open Logic's CPU meters are you seeing a single core spiking?
What effects are being used on the audio and single VI track?

Hi. I believe DVD-A is still not a free protocol, and DVD-A players are rare. and though Logic can make DVD-A, there is no program for the Mac that can actually play them. I'll try a little search, there has been a comprehensive thread on exactly this topic - though more than a year ago, if I remember correctly...

  • How efficient is 'Melodyne' with Logic 9?

I know this has been discussed numerous times, but I am considering buying the Melodyne plugin (the purchase includes a free update to the new version coming in September!), and I would like to know how efficiently it interfaces with Logic as compared to doing it all within say, Pro Tools 8 LE. Are there a lot of extra steps because it's a plugin? Does it suck a lot of extra CPU from Logic to do it's magic? Do most users feel it sounds better than Pro Tool's Elastic Time & Pitch? (less artifacts) And lastly, is there any disadvantage to buying the plugin now instead of waiting until the new version is released?
    Thanks!

    Greetings,
So far, everything seems as stable as before.  Which doesn't actually mean its rock solid, but otherwise workable.  I'm running a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24DSP with beta audio drivers.  So far, everything is running well.  I decided to jump into the 64bit work environment with Logic.  I have yet to encounter huge problems with the 32bit audio bridge.  Just making sure I bounce everything that is 32bit.
As for everything else within Logic, I can't say I hate Lion.  Matter of fact, Lion seems buggier than Logic at the moment.  Logic handles well in Lion, but Lion on its own overall is a different can of worms.  I am mixed about a 10.7.1 update.  Usually, it fixes something on the OS, but breaks something else in Logic.
I have faith that Lion will turn out to be as solid as Snow Leopard.  SL was my favorite OSX so far.  Lion still leaves allot to be desired in terms of stability.
Again, answer to your question:  for me, Logic and Lion play nice.............for now.
    LGK
