How to organize / group fonts in Photoshop

When I open fonts drop down menu inside of Photoshop, I have over 300 fonts listed in alphabetical order, most of which I don't use.
I installed about 20 fonts that I like. But how do I group them together? After typing and selecting text in Photoshop, I want to quickly flip through my 20 best fonts collection (with up and down arrow) to see which font looks better. Is there a way to do it?
I tried deleting all fonts from Library, and leaving only my 20 fonts there, but that didn't work out, because text in other applications started looking funny.
Please let me know if there is a better solution.

Can't offer you much help but can only mention how bad the font technology is in this respect. In my opinion the font usage interfaces available nowadays  are the most primitive and undeveloped than any other software solutions.
Initially, decades ago, the primary goal of the font managers was system performance. In the early desktop computers even a few dozen fonts would slow down considerably the system performance. Nowadays the computers are so much faster that I can have thousands of fonts installed without any problem. So, the major advantage of font managers is lost and I have to use them for organization purposes only. However because they are external means to a problem that needs to be solved internally on a system and program level, they are very inefficient. You have to organize your fonts externally and load or unload with another program all the time in order to have manageable font menu. However this doesn't affect the system fonts and many program fonts which are a number large enough to clutter and interfere with any external arrangement. Basically a font manager allows you to organize your fonts externally where you can choose which fonts you want or don't want to use, then the font manager  automates the installing and uninstalling of these fonts in the system fonts folder and thus limits the number of fonts that appear in the font menus. Font managers don't have access to and can't sort the font menu in anyway.
Ideally, this problem should be solved on a system level. The perfect interface I imagine would be user created sub-folders in the system Fonts folder where a font or its alias can be put and this would be the way the fonts should appear in the Fonts panels and menus of the programs with collapsible sub-menus.

Trying to add new fonts to my Photoshop. How do I do that?

That will depend on whether you have windows or a mac. Each OS has its own font folder, that is the location you need to install the fonts. The next time photoshop starts, it should see the new fonts.

  • How to change default font in Photoshop CS5

Is there a simple way to change the default font from Felix Tilting to Verdana in Photoshop CS5

The character palette will remember the last font you used with any of the text tools. If it doesn't, then something is afoot, but your rather vague post doesn't allow any specific pointers. If you have issues, you need to explain nad provide some system info and so on...

  • How can I read font in Photoshop and Bridge CS5 (illustrator is big enough)

I have upgraded my PC to windows 8, and now Font size is  about size 2 - I can not read the font, this is a huge problem. HUGE. I have managed to get Microsft help via phone, they suggest reducing the screen resolution, but this makes everything BLURREY, so that is not an option when working with Graphics.
I really need a solution to this??

Correction to that last response, after doing screen shots with all font sizes chosen, I note there is a SLIGHT difference in the font in the dialog box, but not the interface ontop of the screen, : ie FILE, EDIT, IMAGE, LAYER ect, accross the top of the screen.
When I say slight, it was so slight I could not notice it until I zoomed in on my screen shot.
If you have 20/20 vision, yet still are looking at these tiny fonts, it is doing your eyes harm, you are straining your eyes each time you work in photoshop, thus damaging your eyes.
I can't beleive I am the only person that seems to be concerned about this

  • How to exactly replicate webpage fonts in Photoshop? Can it be done?

Hi all, I've just come across something in photoshop that I must have never have picked up on before.
I am trying to simply replicate a peice of text in photoshop so that it is pixel by pixel exactly the same as what I would see in a webbrowser with some text from a css/html based webpage.
I used to think creating the text in the same font size and turning the antialiasing method to none reproduced the same text by to my amazement there is
    a slight difference.
As you can see in the text below the text displayed in the css/html webpage does not look as pixelly as the photoshop version.
The grey box is from the actual webpage itself, the text next to Webpage text is screen grabbed from a basic css/html webpage, the Photoshop text what created with the type tool (anti aliasing none)
Just wondering if anyone can explain what is going on here and is there a way to exactly replicate web fonts in photoshop?
    Any help would be great

Sorry, you can't (without copying text from a browser).
Part of the problem is that every browser renders text differently.
And part of it is that many browsers currently render with an anti-aliasing style that Photoshop doesn't support (color edges).
Then there's the lack of kerning in browsers and ....
We've been thinking about how to replicate browser font rendering, but it's not nearly as easy as it sounds.

  • How to group swatches in Photoshop CS5?

in illustrator, you can create swatch folders, so you can find different combinations easily,
but how can i do it in photoshop cs5?
    anyone know?

Gosh, I wish this was possible!
Also, it would be great to be able to add a 'line break' to the swatches so you can start a new group on a new line.
OR at least as a fall back allow multiple swatch panels to be open... so the default swatches can remain in place and I can have a floating panel specific to the document i'm working on.
    Hopefully in CS6!?

Fonts are handled by your operating system and installed through the respective System Control panel (Windows) or Fontbook (Mac). On Windows simply type "Fonts" in the search bar in the start menu and when you open the panel/ folder use File --> Add Font. On Mac the procedures are similar, you just need to find the Fontbook app in Applications:Utilities.

  • How to download a font onto Mac version of photoshop CS6?

How do I download a font that I had on my older pc version of photoshop onto my new mac and mac version of photoshop CS6?

    Hi there,
If you still have access to your older PC, you can take the fonts from that computer by following these directions. You should be able to put them onto a flash drive or external hard drive, then install them on your Mac from there. Depending on how you got the fonts in the first place, you may be able to download them online (be wary of font licenses, however—make sure it is legal to be using them). To install a font onto your Mac:
    1) Locate the font file on your flash drive/external/CD/downloads folder (I'm installing a downloaded font in this example). Double click to open the folder.
    2) Double click on the font file (typically a .ttf or .otf file) and the following window will pop up. Click "Install Font."
    3) This automatically opens FontBook, which is the basic font management software that comes with your Mac. You will then be able to see the font in your installed fonts list, which will make it available for use within Photoshop.
I hope this helps. Let us know if you need more assistance!

  • How do i link photoshop elements 11 organizer to my existing photoshop CS editor

how do i link photoshop elements 11 organizer to my existing photoshop CS editor?
This used to work on elements 8.
I used the elements 11 edit preferences menu, and it wouldn't accept my browse of photoshop.exe (the CS version).
    Suggestions?
    Ed

    Hi Ed,
If PS is installed on your system, you can directly access it for editing without the need to add it anywhere in Organizer preferences.
You can select a file and click Editor button present on the bottom action bar or say use Ctrl+H shortcut. That should create a version-set file for your image and open the same in PS for editing.
    Thanks
