How to organize songs in playlist?

I have an iPhone 4s, and on my Favorite playlist I had them organized by alphabetical order to keep track of which songs i had in the playlist and which ones i didn't. When i went to look to see if i had a certain song on the playlist, i realized they were all out of order. I chose edit, and attempted to reorganize the songs, but they did not stay in the place that i put them in. I would move a W song to the W's, and it would move right back up to the C's. How can i fix this without deleting my playlist?

Rodrigo,
The answer depends on whether you're trying to order a smart playlist or a regular playlist.
If it's a regular one, you can manually arrange the order of the songs. Select the playlist, make sure to click on the heading of the left-most "numerical" column in the display and then drag the songs to the places you want them to be.
If it's a smart one, you can try the same method. I actually didn't expect it to work but a quick test with my iTunes shows that it does. Again, make sure to click on the left-most column heading first.
Anyways, once you've changed the playlist in iTunes, the new order should transfer over to your mini.

  • How do I rearrange (organize) songs in playlists

You used to be able to move songs up and down (ie:organize) in itunes playlists. Simply click on highlighted song and move up or down to your desired spot in the playlist. With this new itunes that function is no longer available. Am i correct with this? editing a playlist does not enable this function.
    Please help.

    Pangis,
With the playlist open, go to the command View > Show View Options.  When the dialog comes up, set "Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to rearrange the order by dragging songs up or down in the playlist.

  • Can't Organize Songs Within Playlists

I would like to organize the songs within playlists alphabetically to make them easier to find. I've tried hitting the tab in Itunes, and within the program they're organized. But when I go to the Nano they are still all mixed up. I put in all the artists and tried to organize it through that category, and still they were unorganized on the Nano. Any other suggestions?

I just did a test. I created a 'test playlist', then I selected all songs in my music lib and copied it to the new 'test playlist'. Low and behold, all songs are in alpha order by song name.

  • How to organize songs the way I want!!

    Ok, bear with me:
I hate the way songs are organized in Itunes. I wanted to be able to go in Songs and have everything alphabetized by artist and then song like this:
    John Lennon - Imagine.
Or by titles I create like: 80's - Europe - Final Countdown.
Now, if I ever have tag info, Itunes organizes by song name only in the song list. So basically, my solution was to delete ALL tag info so that songs show up as they do on my computer. This works well for navigating to songs in the song list but then I can't have anything organized by album or artist.
My problem is this: I'd like to be able to go into Albums and/or Artists and have bands organized there as well in case I just want listen from those (potential) lists, as well as having files organized by artist-song name in Songs. In a perfect world, I'd be able to add full albums into Albums and either not have them listed at all under songs (probably not possible) or have them list the way I want in Songs: artist dash song.
Is there any way to make this happen? Thanks for any tips.

  • App - REMOTE - How to organize song list?

I am using the app from apple called: Remote. It lets you connect to your itunes on ur desktop from your ipod touch and control the songs/volume over wifi. I haven't used it in a few weeks.. but I could of sworn last time I used it, it would show the songs in alphabetical order.. Now its not working and I am unable to figure it out.
There are 2 methods that I use to get it in alphabetical order.. 1 is an easy way and 2 is the long way. The first way bugged out on me and is what I am needing help with:
    1) When you open Remote, there is a MORE option in bottom right hand corner.. and then you just select the songs tab and it shows all the songs. But now its not in alphabetical order =(
    2) Open Remote, click ARTISTS option and then click ALBUMS and again click SONGS and THAT shows them in alphabetical order..
Anyone able to help me get step 1 to work? Sorry for long post, just wanted to hit all the details

I'm fairly new here, but I believe itunes will put it in the proper folder if you label it properly. If you have 2 songs from 2 different sources, and you want them in the same album by the same artist, make sure they have the exact same artist name and album name, and make sure under 'preferences' that you elect to have itunes organize your music files. The rest should be automatic.

  • Hi, can anyone help with how to shuufle songs on playlist with the iphone 4. mine just keeps repesting the same song..thank you

Hi, I can't shuffle songs on my playlis (iphone4)it..keeps repeating the same song...aaagghhh..thanks

I had a similar problem and I finally got rid of it. I had bought a single song from itunes and synced it to my iphone. A few months later I bought the whole cd which included that song from a record store and imported it to itunes. I deleted the previously purchased copy from my library but the next time I synced my phone I had two copies of that song again.
Try deleting the song from your itunes library. The next time you sync your iphone it will say something like "you have purchased content on your iphone that is not in your itunes library, would you like to transfer this content to your library? If you don't transfer it it will be removed from your iphone."
Select not to transfer the content (assuming you have no other new songs you need to transfer) and you should be rid of the extra copy.
I hope this makes sense and helps.

  • How can I play a playlist and not the entire library on my shuffle?

I can't seem to organize songs into playlists and then play only the songs in the playlist -

There is if you play music from your computer (mine is connected via AirTunes to several stereo systems) or if you later get a Nano, or iPod with Video or an iPhone that does support playlists.
You can also use them to load songs on your Shuffle. For example, say you are going on a long exercise walk and you want many motivational songs with increasingly faster tempos. You could create a playlist on your computer, put the songs in it that you want, in the order you want, call it Long Walk, and then when your Shuffle is connected choose to Autofill from the playlist Long Walk

  • How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? They are there but the individual song titles aren't listed. They are only listed by album. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also, when I click on music, it will not list options.

My itunes account is messed up. How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? The list's are there but the individual song titles aren't. They are only listed by album. I can only see the song titles as they are played at the top of my itunes. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also when in the itunes store, I am not able to see music genre choices, or search for a song or group.
    Thank you

    Hi dones49,
It sounds like your issue here is that iTunes can not find the files for some of the songs you have brought into it. This happens occasionally even if the songs have not been moved from the location that iTunes places them on import or purchase. When you try to use the song, iTunes prompts you to find the file, as you have seen.
To find the file, use the information in this article to navigate through the iTunes media folders -
Locate and organize your iTunes files
If you are still unable to locate the files, you may need to download them from the iTunes store again, or rip them from your CDs. See this article for assistance with downloading your past purchases -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Organization Problems.  Can no longer put songs in playlists.

    First
"Why am I reposting my earlier question?"
    ANSWER:
    1.  I had to post my question a second time because as you can see my first post isn't showing as a question anymore nor does it allow me to recheck the   "box" that turns my post into a  question.
    2.  I received suggested answers via a "popup".  The answers were dated 2006 and 2008.
    3.  While some questions may be able to have answers from that long ago, my question requires a 2011 answer.
I knew how to drag songs to my playlist in 2008!
    4.  The saddest part is while Apple is sending me expired answers from 2006 and 2008, Ask.com already has a thread on this subject.
Second:  Please help me with my original question.
How do I select multiple songs and move them to a playlist?
    1. I was shocked when I went into Itunes and I could not drag any of my songs from one playlist to another.  I clicked and tapped and held down the cntrl/shift key.  Until yesterday, I would have told you I was extrememly confident in my Itunes skills.  It is one thing to not realize that this would be a problem but then to have NOTHING in the "help box" that addressed this common issue.
    2. I teach "Writing in the Workplace" so I know that I exhausted the Itunes "help" box as well as anyone could.
    3.  I manually manage my music and I am going to continue to manually magage my playlists due to organizational needs.
    4.  AND I need to move songs to playlists WITHOUT activitating Ping.
5..  I feel like Apple is bullying me into using PING.  I say this because the Itunes help section DOES have instructions on how organize my playlist IN PING.
    <Edited by Host>

    Thanks for responding!
My question is  the Headline and Is repeated as the 2nd header.
Second:  Please help me with my original question.
How do I select multiple songs and move them to a playlist?
I have songs in my "music" playlist and all I need to do is move them to my "marathon" playlist.
Obviously, there has been an upgrade that changed the basic operation something that has my songs locked in place.  However, nothing appears in the "help" that remotely answers my question.
I am just really sad it has taken me so long for something so simple and that I had to post here for something that should have been in "help" before the change was allowed to even happen.
Soooo....too make a short question even longer I had to run my 1/2 marathon without music this morning and I am not closer to getting those pesky music files to move from one playlist to another.
Hope you can help!  I got so many hits last night but no one even said "boo".  I think it is because my first message was marked "solved"

  • How do i organize songs in the order i want? it seems that i cant drag them where i prefer

I am trying to organize songs in a specific order on my ipod.  how do i drag them where i want? I have set up a playlist but cannot seem to manupulate the songs around.

In the list view, you can click on any column to sort by that column.  For a custom sort, click the column left of the name column with the track numbers as shown.  This allows you to drag the songs into any order you want.

  • How do I add certain songs and playlists to my iPhone but not others?

    Hi all,
I recently installed iTunes 11.0 onto my MacBook Pro, and I yearn for the days of far simpler content management.  All I want to do is add certain songs and playlists from my computer onto my iPhone without re-syncing the entire thing (every time I do, sound files that I created for work find their way onto my phone, and I have to re-delete them every time).  But I can't figure out how to simply add ONE song or ONE playlist to what is already there.  In the previous version, it was so simple--just point, click, and drag.  Now I can't figure it out and I feel like an idiot.  Can anyone show me how to do such an absurdly simple thing?
    Thanks,
    Neil

When you sync your phone with your laptop (or other device that has the songs you want), go into your music preferences and choose "Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres." This should allow you to select the three songs you want from your library. Make sure to click or tap on "apply" or else the changes will not be saved. Let the phone completely sync and those three songs should be in your phone's music library.
    Hope this helps!

  • My question is Itunes related.  How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from alphabetizing the song list created. I wanted to keep the original order, and somehow everything was alphabetized without requesting it.

My question is Itunes related.  How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from automatically alphabetizing the song list.   I had a specific order of songs that I wanted, and Itunes somehow automatically alphabetized them.  Is there a way to turn that feature off, and/or get them back to the original order?   I also noticed that once a playlist has been created, I cannot manually changed the order of the songs from my desktop..  Any suggestions?

That's just the sort order. It's displaying the media alphabetically because you have clicked on the NAME column near the top of the iTunes window.
Click on the little triangle above the column of numbers (usually on the far left side of the main iTunes window) and the media will sort in the order in which you added each item to the playlist.
You can easily reorder songs within a playlist: Click and HOLD on the song you wish to move, then drag-and-drop it wherever you like.

  • How can I gift a playlist, with the songs in the order I choose?

How can I gift a playlist, with the songs in the order I choose, to a bunch of other people? Since iTunes won't allow me to burn a song more than a few times to disc, and I have to share playlists with my cover band (so we can learn songs), I need the capability to do this.

Drag them from where? I've tried to drag them from windows explorer and it won't allow me. It seems the only place I can drag files from is from the iTunes library list. The problem is there is no way that I can find to just see the songs from a specific folder on my drive in the iTunes library list. It sorts them by artist, album, genre, etc....but not by folder.
