How to output a mono channel

Does anyone know how to output mono tracks to a single output.
When I try to output a mono signal, all my outputs are paired i.e. to outputs 1-2, 3-4 etc
Is is possible (it must surely be!) to do this?

That's definitely way to do it. But it points up another missing "Pro" feature from Logic "Pro".
You should be able to assign a mono channel to a direct mono hardware output.
I hope if they ever deliver an update to Logic that they will think seriously about adding this and other "standard" features of old school hardware mixers. Then, while they're at it they can work on a dedicated monitor mix, cue and talkback system. Ya know, like we had in the '70's with all that "outdated" technology?
Sure, you can build many of these things yourself in the environment. That's what we have to do. But that's kinda like selling a mixer without direct outs or talkback and then saying "Sure, but you can build that yourself with a handy dandy soldering iron and some wire!".
Fingers crossed for version 8.020000001

  • Outputting 5.1 Channel Surround Sound from your Mac

How to output 5.1 Channel Surround Sound from you Mac...

I have been using my MacBook Pro via HDMI into my pioneer av amp which is set up for 5.1.
I have been able to output 5.1 audio with Logic Pro and FCPX no issues at all after you setup the audio midi utility for 5.1. This setup is via PCM 5.1 audio not to be confused with Dolby 5.1.
It works great. If you want to play your edited exported movies from Final Cut Pro x in surround then it gets a bit tricky. I export the movie with FCPX as master video with the 5.1 audio then use HandBreak set to atv3 to encode / compress the video. This is great because handbreak folds the 5.1 into a stereo AAC track and also encodes the 5.1 mix into Dolby 5.1 AC3 track so both stereo and surround tracks are embedded in the movie file. So if you have an Apple TV it will play the movie with its surround track. If you play the same HandBreak compressed movie out of your Mac via hdmi to your surround amp it will only play the stereo track if you are using iTunes or QuickTime  and I believe this is because of copy protect and Dolby license issues. iTunes will play a purchased movie from the itunes store in surround via your Macs hdmi to receiver setup but will only play the stereo track of the movie you exported from HandBreak even though it is set up just like an iTunes movie. To get your HandBreak movie to play in Dolby surround from your Mac all you need is VLC player, then you have to go in and select the Dolby track and the output in VLCs audio settings and bingo your HandBreaked movie then plays out of your Mac in Dolby surround. Once you set your Mac up for 5.1 mixing your amp will show your outputting 5.1 via the mac but again this is PCM audio 5.1 and apps like FCPX, Soundtrack Pro, Logic Pro will work.

  • Splitting the 5.1 optical mbp/imac outputs into 6 analog mono channels?

    Hi
is it possible to use the 6 outputs of the optical output of the macbook pro as separate channels?
What do I need to convert/split the signals into 6 analog channels and does Logic/Ableton recognizes the 5.1 as 6 mono channels?
    thx!!

sorry to tell you, but no. This is not possible. The 5.1 optical output is only possible by using a special digital encoding that comes with data reduction: AC3. You can't create AC3 streams without relatively large latencies and without buying rather expensive AC3 authoring software components.
However, once you have an AC3 stream you can use ac AC3 compatible audio amplifier to convert it to analog signals. Not very feasible imho. The much simpler and less expensive way would be to buy an audio interface with multichannel support.
    Cheers,
    Jazz

  • How to building a multi-channels analog output task in visual c++ 6.0 (without Measurement Studio)?

    Hello!
I have a PCI 6251 card, and using DAQmx C function to generate a wavwform. (single channel ).
But, how to creating a multi-channels analog output task, and had a different frequence in each channels?
    Thanks.

This is getting to be a common question!
    The answer is, you can't.
If the rates have common factors, you can use a higher overall rate. The slower waveform will simply have extra points in it to make up for the higher update rate.

  • How can I output the alpha channel in Premiere elements 10

How can I output the alpha channel in Premiere elements 10. What format should I use?
Tried outputting to an AVI filet but the file did not contain an alpha channel that After Effects 5.5 would recognize.

    Bill,
I hope you ordered 32 GB or more on that new computer After Effects 5.5 takes up as much as it can.
The Roto Brush tool is really a timesaver over ordinary Rotoscoping. Although, my problem now is: when I try to send a 1 min. And 11 second video from Adobe Premier Pro 5.5 two Adobe Media encoder 5.5, the process hangs in wait state in the Media Encoder. I have filed a request for help on the Media Encoder forum.
I know you will put your new computer to use in helping other people and for this I thank you.

  • How to SPLIT ONE STEREO TRACK'S L & R CHANNELS INTO TWO MONO CHANNELS

Does anyone know if this is possible: How to SPLIT ONE STEREO TRACK'S L & R CHANNELS INTO TWO MONO CHANNELS?  There's got to be a way, but I just can't find out how.
I recorded a podcast -- me and a guest, with each mic going to its own mono channel. When I opened it in Audition it mixed them into one stereo channel.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Best,
    Shawn

You're a big help! Thanks very much.  Simple yet I must be going blind because I didn't see that in the menu.
    Take care and THANKS AGAIN.

  • Changing the 1-2 stereo outputs to mono in logic

I want to assingn the outputs of each track in Logic individually so that it matches each channel of my recently purchased M-Audio Nrv 10 mixer (which also serves as my soundcard). Can't seem to figure out how to change the outputs (right below 'imputs' button and seen as'1-2') of each strip channel from stereo to mono. Is there an answer to this question? it seems to me, from the responses i've read in this forum, that the answer is still unclear. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.

You can't change the outputs to mono from the output selection tab, but you can pan each output to route to the correct channel. Set track 1 and track 2 to have 1-2 outputs and pan track 1 all the way to the left and 2 all the way to the right, and you have mono outputs. Continue that with all of your outputs and they all will be mono. If you want to bounce to mono, either bounce the stereo pair and choose 'split LR' under 'stereo file type' or change the output channel strip to mono and then bounce from there. If you change the output channel strip to mono, the tag will still say Output 1-2, which you can just change manually, but if you highlight the channel strip and look at the information to the left of the channel strips, under 'channel' it will say 'Output 1,' instead of Output 1-2. Hope this helps.

  • How do I run multiple channels in the same VI?

I am trying to analyze two signals, one temp, the other strain.  I have configured my two tasks using MAX, and written separate VIs which work fine when run independently.  Now I want to measure the two signals and output the data on two separate graphs within one VI, but when I run the VI I keep getting an error stating that the "resource is already reserved" (or something to that effect).  I tried adding a channel to an existing task, and building the VI but that didn't work (both signals showed up on both graphs).  I also tried using two separate tasks but that when I get the aforementioned error.  How do I get each channel to show up on different graphs?
I am using: M-Series DAQ card 6259, SC-2345 and SCC modules, with Labview 8.0

Does the following VI come close to what you wanted to do ?

  • How do I add more channels to my input source?

I'm trying to record my son's band on a iBook in the rehearsal studio, and would like to also do this type of recording on my iMac here at home, so how do I add more channels to my input source for simultaneous multi-track recording. Right now I am only getting 2 mono and 1 stereo channels.
Ultimately I would like to add the maximum amount (probably 8 tracks), and still be able to record simultaneously with at least one guitar, one bass, one vocal mike, and the drums on one mike...
According to Hangtimes/Garage Door website, this is a possibility, but first I must create more channels.
    Please help. THANKS...

I would like to separately record each input on different channels simultaneously.
You might also want to check out the M-Audio NRV10, which is a hybrid analog mixer + firewire audio interface (with I think around 10 simultaneously available separate channels), which makes it very "band friendly" for both rehearsal and recording.

  • How can I use the NI PXI-6508 with Lab View 7? what are the first steps to get started??How can I use the channels with lab view 7????

I have a 8 slot PXI system with 2 NI PXI 6508 and 1 DMM 4070 in it. I want to get started with programming the digital I/O cards (6508)! How can I use this cards with LabView 7?what is the best way to get started, or where can I get examples showing how to use the several channels?
    Thanks!
    Philipp

    Philipp,
The best way to get started is to decide if you want to use traditional NI-DAQ or NI-DAQmx. Recently we released NI-DAQ 7.1 which provides NI-DAQmx support for the PXI-6508. In my opinion, NI-DAQmx is more efficient and much easier to use.
To get started with examples, simply launch LabVIEW and go to Help>>Find Examples. Then expand Hardware Input and Output>>DAQmx and select the appropriate digital group for your application. This should help get you started.
Please repost if you need addition assistance. Good luck with your application!

  • How to output sample and convert clocks to PFI lines of E-Series DAQ (DAQPad-6015)

    Hi,
Can someone tell me how to output sample and convert clocks to PFI lines of E-Series DAQ (DAQPad-6015)?
    Thank you very much.
    Jack

    John --
Windows is not an option for me. I like your idea of using a counter output -- it may be helpful as I am getting ramped up, but my application will eventually require both timer outputs.
I have a legacy C application written for Macintosh, and I am in the process of moving it onto OS X. So my options are to use DAQmx Base, or write an in-kernel driver. I actually have already done the latter for 6024/6025 E-series boards (for another company); for this client I was hoping to use the DAQmx Base to allow an easy transition to M-series boards, without the cost of writing and supporting a low-level driver.
The specific task I am doing is relatively straightforward. I record 2 channels of AI for a short period (usually about 250 ms.) and during this time I drive 2 external digital signals. Right now, I use the 2 timer outputs, which allows precise synchronization with the output and AI sampling.
I appreciate your comments, and thanks in advance for any additional suggestions you can lob my way.

  • FCPX 10.1.3 limiter not working for me after choosing a mono channel

When I try to add a limiter with a -4.5db limit to a mono channel in FCPX 10.1.3 it never works as it should -- usually seems to limit the sound to -12db!
Any tips for how I can the Limiter this working as it should?
Under Audio my Channel Configuration shows as stereo for a particular clip.
Under Channel Configuration, I choose Dual Mono, untick one of the mono channels
Then I add the Limiter to that clip, set to -4.5db using the Larry Jordan settings from this article http://www.larryjordan.biz/technique-using-the-soundtrack-pro-limiter-filter/

yes, separate archives. For clearness, here again what I did, step by step:
    1. Inserted the SD-card in my Mac. Opened the import-window. The Camera is listed twice. See the screenshot:
If I click on the first one (looking like a DSLR), I see the iFrame clip in the browser. If I click the second one (looking like a camcorder), I can see all the AVCHD clips in the browser. Importing clips into an event works fine for both "Cameras".
    2. Clicked on the first one again, then created an camera archive. A white circle behind the camera name shows the process.
    3. Same for the second one. White circle during import, too.
In both cases, FCPX informed me in the window for the archive's destination, that the archive will be about 18 GB.
    4. waited for a loooooooong time, until the white circles disappeared and the background activity window does show no action any longer.
    5. After that, tried to open the archives in FCPX (this time with favorite-Tab...). In both archives, I can only see the iFrame-Media. Not one of the about 150 AVCHD clips ...
    6. Switched to Finder and examined both archives (opened with "show package content")  Same size (approx.  18.1 GB) and same content. See below:
7 When I open the AVCHD-subsection of the archive (via show package content), I can see, that in both archives ALL files for the AVCHD content is contained completely in the correct structure (too big for a screenshot...)
In the root of the package, there are, as you can see, two XML (.plist) files. The smaller one indexes the iFrame-media, the bigger one the AVCHD-media.
So, the archives seem to be complete. Just, that FCPX does not recognize the AVCHD content...

  • How to output video as still image frames?

    Hi there,
We need to convert a movie file which has something like 375 frames into 60 still image files. How could we go about doing this using After Effects?
We have a lot of movie files to convert, is there a way to batch process this so that we can have it processing over the weekend?
    I'd really appreciate anyone's help!
    Thanks!
    Abi

    That link is helpful.
So if I wanted to render a batch process, I simply add all the movie files into the render queue and then specify for each of the files where I want them to be outputted to... And then once the render button is clicked it will do all of the items in the queue?
For example, for one composition I have 'Best Settings' selected for 'Render Settings' and then for the 'Output Module' I have it set as 'Based on "Lossless" '...
The 'Output Module' settings I have as the format 'JPEG Sequence', 'Post-Render Action: None', 'Video Output' is ticked; 'Channels: RGB', 'Depth: Millions of Colors".
I am outputting it to a specific folder.
Are these settings more or less correct for what I want to do?
Apologies for basic questions being asked, I don't want to start the process for it to go wrong when I am not here to oversee it!!!
    Thanks!

  • How to play back one channel of the stereo track in both headphone cans?

I recorded two microphones in one stereo track. Is there some way I could listen to the left channel and then to the right channel in both cans in my headphones, like a mono track? Panning moves all sound to the left can or the right one in my headphones. But I'd like to listed Left channel as mono channel in both headphone cans, and then press some button and listen to the right channel in both cans. How can I do it?

No problem. By the way, there is a wrinkle in Logic that you may not be aware of.
When dealing with a stereo track, the knob in the channel strip that you may think of as a Pan knob is not. It's a Balance knob. What is does is to change the level of what's in either left or right channel but does NOT move the left signal to the right or vice versa.
    To prove this:
    * Create a project with two mono audio tracks
    * Put different files on each track
    * Pan one hard left, the other hard right
    * Bounce the result
    * Create a new project with a stereo audio track
    * Import the audio that you exported above
    * Use the Balance Knob to bring either up or down
    * Note you cannot move one signal from its original position
If you want to pan a stereo signal, you have to use the insert: Imaging > Direction Mixer. Only then can you position a stereo signal in your stereo field. This is documented in the user manual in the section called: "Setting the Pan, Balance, or Surround Position".
    Have fun!
    Pete

  • Mono Channel

Just want to let everyone know about the problem I had, and how I resolved it. Recently, my iPod 30gig would reset itself while I was scanning through songs on shuffle. I posted on here but no one seemed to know what to do. So I ended up messing with it myself, and noticed the only songs it would restart on were a "mono channel" files.
I'm not sure if this happens with everyone, but you might check if you're having this problem. I went through all of my songs and deleted the ones that were "mono channel" and everything seems to work fine now. iPod will play "stero", "dual stereo", and "joint stereo" files just fine, but "mono" files seem to reset it.
If you're having this same problem, just right click a file, click "Get Info" and then click the "Summary" tab to see what channel the file is.
Hope this helps anyone who's having the same problem.
