How to package classes?

Hi everybody! I'm a new user in Java and currently i'm having this problem with packaging. I've visited a lot of websites and most of them showing the examples of command in the command prompt without explaining in detail what the command does! I'm really lost and i hope i can get some help from someone. Please Help?

I presume you mean to create a Java archive of your classes, which is done with the jar command, one of the commands provided with the JDK. See the JDK documentation for the command usage.
By the way, this forum is for Java Studio Enterprise, not general Java questions. For further questions, please direct them to the appropriate forum.

  • How to load classes at ejb module deployment

    Hi,
    Can someone tell me how to loaded a class when I deploy an ear module (the class is in the ear) ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Fred.

    Hi Fred,
    Can you explain your question a bit more? Are you asking how to do
    dynamic class loading for your application or just how to package
    classes appropriately?

  • Help! How to create Jar file for a packaged class?

    Hi!
    I am new in jar complexities. I made a swing frame that just prompts a JOptionPane when executed. I accomplished the same using jar without packaging my class SwingTest.
    But when i package it, it doesn't run. Can any one tell me how to make jar file of packaged classes and include images in the jar files too!
    Really Thanx!

    Call the Jar from the commandline to see the exceptions thrown.
    java -jar <jarFileName> <className>

  • How is a Package/Class located?

    Hi,
    I developing a web app, and as far as I know, if I place my jar files in the web-inf/lib folder, the server/app should be able to find them when used in my classes/servlets.
    Well, it seems that my web server (WebLogic 6.1) is not able to find some of my classes. I'm trying to use classes provided by XALAN, particulary in the package org.apache.xpath. I placed the all JAR files provided by XALAN in my web apps web-inf/lib folder. When I tried to use XPathAPI, I got the error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError org/apache/xpath/XPathAPI. I didn't however get an error saying that the package was not found as defined in the import directive.
    I also have the path to the JARs defined in the classpath ENV variable for the NT server.
    I found a work around to this. I modified the startup BAT file for the web server and appended the path to the XALAN jars in the classpath definition for the web server. It works, but I want it to pick up the JAR without making modifications to the web server's startup script.
    I've placed other jar files in the web-inf/lib folder and had no problem using them (ADOBE FDF TOOLKIT).
    I was thinking that maybe the web server is looking in the wrong place, but I'm not sure how a web server or application server find the right package?
    If I have a org.apache.xpath in JAR1 and in JAR2, but only JAR2 contained the class XPathAPI, will the server look in both jars for the class?
    Any explanation or a link to an article on how a package is located during execution will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    The import directive is compile time only. The complier will turn:
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.event.*;
    public class LotsOButtons extends Button {
        public static void main(java.lang.String args) {
            Button b = new Button(((Button)(new Button())).toString());
            Frame f = new Frame(b.toString());
            f.setVisible(new Boolean(b.getEnabled()).booleanValue());
            f.add(b, BorderLayout.CENTER);
    }into:public class LotsOButtons extends java.awt.Button {
        public static void main(String args) {
            java.awt.Button b = new java.awt.Button(((java.awt.Button)(new java.awt.Button())).toString());
            java.awt.Frame f = new java.awt.Frame(b.toString());
            f.setVisible(new java.lang.Boolean(b.getEnabled()).booleanValue());
            f.add(b, java.awt.BorderLayout.CENTER);
    }and the imports are never seen.
    Try doing a Start -> Find -> Files or Folders for *.jar (I found out the hard way that it supports wildcards) and delete the conflicting XALAN, 'cause on the ExtClassLoader finds the first it's not ging to turn back.

  • How to find (classes,interface,subpackage info) in some package

    Plz tell me if any one know how to find (classes,interface,subpackage) in some package
    e.g. in java.io
    "Above senerio in not concern with java doc
    but tell me if an other way i.e by help of programming
    i could find some package information"
    as we know we find out any "object" classType , methods and fields information with help of "java.lang.reflect" API's
    but how to find a package information as provided by jdk is in current use

    You can locate the .zip or .jar file where the stuff is, and say either
    unzip -l classes.zip
    or
    jar tvf classes.jar.
    So you see the list of the classes in the given package.
    Then you can say
    javap -classpath classes.zip MyPackage.MyClass
    to see the fields and methods of the given class.

  • Eclipse - how to share a package/class with 3 diff projects

    Hi all,
    I have 3 projects that are customized diffrently but one package is same for everyone (sharedClass). The problem is when I add/delete/update the SharedClass I have to do it 3 times (for each project)
    Question: How can I share the package/Class with the 3 projects? I mean, I want to change it once and the effect will take place to all 3 PROJECTS.
    Thanks
    Ppr

    This is an Eclipse question and doesn't really belong here, but:
    I would put the shared package into its own project. Then for the three projects (after removing the shared package) I would use the Project menu and choose properties. Choose Java Build Path snd select Projects. Choose Add and select the project containing the shared package.

  • How to package/inlcude C++ .exe and .dll files in a Java Web Start App?

    Hello,
    I have a Java Web Start application that runs fine if the application is only 1 .jar file.
    But I have a need to also run C++ .exe and .dll file from my Java application.
    I wonder if someone could please tell me how to package/include C++ .exe and
    .dll files in my Java web start application?
    Thank you and Best Regards,
    Akino

    You need to place the EXE and DLLs inside the jar.
    Java cannot execute them from the jar. They have to be extracted (see Class.getResourceAsStream) from the jar and copyied into the target machine file system, perahps to the temp directory. Now you can execute them using Runtime.exec() or ProcessBuilder.start().

  • Package/class which gives currency exchange rates

    Is there any package /class in Java which gives the current currency exchange rate ? If not how can this be achieved?

    you'll have to find an online provider of that information and write code
    to subscribe to the information. Up to the minute rates will probably cost you as well.

  • How to package other jar files into one jar?

    How to package other jar files into one jar? How can i get the class in the inner jar file?

    Generally not a good idea. The Java runtime won't be able to load classes from those "inner" jars, you'd have to write your own classloader to do that. It's not a brilliant idea, generally, anyway, since the point of having lots of jars is to keep your application modular. Bundling them all together like that means you have to re-deploy the whole thing to fix, for instance, one small bug in one small library
    If you really want to do this, there's an Eclipse plugin called FatJar, but I urge you to consider whether you really want to do it first.

  • How to convert .class into .jar file

    Hi,
    How to convert .class into .jar file

    jsf_VWP5.5.1 wrote:
    Hi,
    How to convert .class into .jar fileFrom a command prompt, cd to the location of your .class file(s).
    If you want to create a simple jar, use: jar -cf Whatever.jar Whatever.class
    If you want to compile all .class files in a directory into a jar, use *.class instead.
    Now, I'm going to assume you want to create an executable jar... here's how to do that:
    1) Create a blank text file; for this example, lets call it main.txt.
    2) In the first line of main.txt, type: Main-class: Whatever ('Whatever' should be the name of the class in your program where the main() method is located)
    3) Press enter to go to the next line (someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but if you don't insert the line break/CR after the Main-class: statement, this will not work... in my experience, this is true)
    4) Make sure you save this file in the same directory as your .class file(s).
    5) Type: jar -cmf Whatever.jar main.txt Whatever.class
    ...and that's about it. For more information on the usage of the jar command and to understand the switches (such as -cmf), try jar --help.
    Hope that helps.

  • Package Class in Transport Collector

    When i Collect my Objects in the Transport Collector, I find that many of them are attached to a different Package class. there many such sub objects too. some of them i changed by right click -> change object directory. but some 300+ objects are still residing in another package.
    CAN I change the same by updating a table called TADIR by writing an ABAP code ??
    Or shud i continue to manually change the class.
    Pls advice. thanks.

    Hi,
    if you change the object directory entry (e.g. package of an object), the SAP system is doing some more things than just changing the TADIR table: it is locking the object and connecting it to a transport request, also some checks are performed, e.g. whether the namespace of the package is allowed for the object. To avoid inconsistencies, I would <b>not</b> prefer writing an ABAP in this case.

  • How can a class extending MouseAdapter override mouseDragged method?

    I've found this code from somewhere, don't remember where
    private class DragLimiter extends MouseAdapter {
    @Override
    public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) {
    pressedX = e.getX();
    pressedY = e.getY();
    @Override
    public void mouseDragged(MouseEvent e) {
    label.setLocation(
    Math.min(
    Math.max(label.getX() + e.getX() - pressedX, BORDER),
    panel.getWidth() - label.getWidth() - BORDER),
    Math.min(
    Math.max(label.getY() + e.getY() - pressedY, BORDER),
    panel.getHeight() - label.getHeight() - BORDER));
    }The question is how can a class extending MouseAdapter override mousedragged()?
    I found that MouseAdapter implements MouseListener whose subinterface is MouseMotionListener, I think this has something to do with the question.
    But I've always thought you can only override methods of the super classes or interfaces not vice versa.
    I believe I have some kind of fundamental misunderstanding of this and would like to have some help in understanding this.
    Thanks

    This is more a Java question than a Swing question.
    I found that MouseAdapter implements MouseListener whose subinterface is MouseMotionListenerThat's not correct: if you look at MouseAdapter Javadoc, you'll find that it implements both MouseListener and MouseMotionListener (and MouseMotionListener is not a subinterface of MouseListener).
    Regardless, if you look at the javadoc, you see that MouseAdapter declares a method public void mouseDragged(MouseEvent). It doesn't matter whether this is also declared by an interface, a subclass can override it all the same.
