How to partition the hard drive in Mac OS 9?
I have a 366 MHz iBook Clamshell, and to install Yellow Dog Linux without wiping OS 9, I must partition the hard drive. It does not have any CD tray, and the hard drive is 10 GB.
If you are trying to partition the disk you are booting from, then no, it cannot alter it's partition map while booted. You will have to use some alternative boot device (ordinarily this would be a bootable CD, but you'll need to find some workaround like an external device).
Also, the utilities in OS 9 will only repartition that drive by erasing the whole thing. You will need to boot into a Linux OS with one of the Linux partition tools if you want to non-destructively alter that discs partition table (use something like GParted on a bootable UBuntu disc or something like that).

I have a 15" MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion installed. I have partitioned the hard drive into two partitions. Is it possible to install Snow Leopard on the second partition? If so how do I do it?
If your MacBook Pro had Snow Leopard on it at one time then sure. (Early 2011 or earlier)

Obviously choose the second partition to install into. It has to be OS X Extended journaled formatted in Disk Utility (BootCamp software makes it a MSDOS/FAT32 formatted partition if you used that to partition with)
If it's a Early 2011 or Late 2011 that came with 10.7, it's possible, but it's not easy.

Recently Apple replaced the hard drive on Mac running Yosmite 10.10.2 and now when i try to rn FaceTime, the computer says "no camera available". Does anyone no how to fix this?
Assuming there is no hardware problem try reinstalling Yosemite. If this does not work then take it back to the Apple Store.

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I recently bought a Toshiba Hard-Drive with the following features:
500GB
It is a Canivo Basics 3.0
It is USB 3.0 and 2.0 portable hard drive
It has already been formatted NTFS for Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8
The box says that it can be reformatted for Mac
I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display that I bought this year in late March/early April.
It runs OS X Mavericks, and Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac.
I would like to reformat it so that I can use it on my laptop both with Windows and Mac OS at the same time. I do not wish to use a partition as I want to access the hard drive through Mac and Windows at the same time on my laptop and I also want to be able to access the Mac things on a Windows computer and vice versa.
I have never formatted a hard drive before, and I would like to use a completely safe software, or no software at all, if it is possible.
I am sorry but I don't have a very high knowledge of this.

Sandy-WoodIt would be easier, using Parallels, just to format the drive for "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". You can see it both in the Windows/Parallels and the Mac side. Leaving it formatted as NTFS is not going to allow you to access (write to) the drive unless you use third-party software. Formatting it for Mac lets you use it, as I said, on both the Parallels VM and the Mac side.
If you were using Boot Camp, I would advise leaving it formatted as NTFS and purchasing NTFS for Mac to access the drive on both OS's. You can mitigate that by formatting the drive for Mac:

How to wipe the hard drive on a screen-dead Powerbook G3?
The display on my 1998 G3 Wallstreet Powerbook recently went black and the computer made a noise that I understand is called The Chimes of Death, although the hard drive still makes whirring noises. My local and trustworthy Apple repair service assures me the Powerbook wouldn't be worth repairing even if they could get the parts for such an old machine.
Is there a way to wipe the hard drive and make my data irretrievable before disposing of the computer?
If there's no way to wipe the hard drive, I'd like to find out: (1) How to remove the hard drive. (2) The best way to destroy the hard drive or at least make it forever unreadable (can my shredder eat it?). (3) The correct way to dispose of a Powerbook that has heard the Chimes of Death. As far as wiping the drive, it is easy as long as you can see a display so you can follow the steps necessary. You just open Drive Setup in the Utilities Folder on the CD > select 'zero all data' in the Initialization Options; do it a few times if concerned.
Removing the HD is relatively easy: Just lift off the keyboard and the heat sink, then remove the HD.

Hit the HD a few times with a hammer and nobody will bother with it...it has a glass platter.
Nothing to offer on the recycling except Good Will may still take it as "non-working" since there are Mac users looking for such bargains. -

I have a G5 Tower with 10.4.11 installed on an internal hard drive with a single partition. In order to partition the drive I have booted from the installation disk, opened Disk Utility, and was surprised to not see an option to partition the hard drive. I think that this has worked in the past but it's not working now.
How can I can partition my internal hard drive? I understand that I will need to reinstall the operating system after I do.

on my macbook pro the hard drive icon is not on my desktop and I don't know how to find the hard drive or get the icon back on my desktop
Click on the Desktop. From the Finder menu select Preferences. Check the boxes for what you want on your Desktop. If they are already checked, then try unchecking and rechecking.

I have an Ipad, I activated the time capsule with no issues. I added the airport Utility application without issue. However, I do not know how to access the hard drive with either my Windows computer or the Ipad. Does someone know how?
On windows load the airport utility .. latest correct version as possible.. there is no windows 8 but win7 works after a fashion.
Make sure the TC is using SMB compatible names.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Type the name directly into windows explorer.
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress
If no luck turn off all the firewalls.. internal windows plus security software plus whatever other gargyoles and other rubbish AV software you have running.
Ensure windows is able to at least ping the TC by IP address and name..
Use the utility in windows to set file sharing to guest account on with full read and write access.. and set workgroup to WORKGROUP. -

You can use an external disk for store files and for Time Machine, but you have to create a second volume.
To create volumes on the external disk, use Disk Utility. See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html I recommend you to put as much space as you can for the Time Machine volume, because backups consume a lot and Time Machine starts deleting backups when the external disk is full -

Kindly provide me with your advise. On my old Windows OS pc it was a good practice to partition my hard drive to (e.g. C: and D:) where C: was for system and D: for data (pictures, music, documents etc.). If anything went wrong with the system (virus, any other issue) I simply reinstalled C: from my last restore point done by my back up software (from an external HD) and all was fine. Data on D: were not harmed at all.

David, yes I do know back up. I have Time Machine running and backing up to my external HD as I type. I am also considering starting to use CCC to create an alternative to TM (as there seems to be a bit of confusion as to how it works, what it keeps and what it eventually dumps. It appears to work in a way where if you want to make sure your data is REALLY backed up you have to have the file on your primary HD at least 8 days so they make it to the weekly back up which stays until your back up drive fills up).
Anyone, any thoughts on the partition on Macs? Go for it or do not worry and keep just one? -

This is what I have understood -
1. FAT 32 partitioned from OS X - Not recognisable from XP
2. FAT 32 partitioned from XP - Recognisable from OS X, but cannot have a single partition of more than 32 GB and there cannot be more than 4 partitions
3. NTFS partitioned from XP - Only readable in OS X
4. NTFS partitioned from XP, converted to HFS+ (i.e. Mac OS Extended Journaled) - becomes unrecognisable in XP and the remaining partition becomes unusable
5. NTFS partitioned in XP and converted to NTFS -3G after installing Macfuse in OS X - Perfect
