How to pass a HTML file as an object to a browser?

Hi,
I am currently designing a simple webserver application which will serve a client(browser) with a simple HTML form upon request.
I have already managed to complete this requirement but i need help simplifying a small part of my program regarding file input(HTML file to be exact).
My webserver application so far:
import java.io.*;*
import java.net.;
import java.util.*;
public class FormServer
public static void main(String[] args)
Scanner keyboard = new Scanner(System.in);
try
System.out.println("Enter listening port as an integer value");
int listening_port = keyboard.nextInt();
ServerSocket server_socket = new ServerSocket(listening_port);
System.out.println("Server is now listening on port "
listening_port" and awaiting HTTP request from client");
Socket client_socket = server_socket.accept();
System.out.println("Connection established with client "
+ client_socket.getInetAddress() + " on port " + listening_port);
InputStream data = client_socket.getInputStream();
BufferedReader buffered_data = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(data));
final String firstline = buffered_data.readLine();
if(firstline.indexOf("GET")==0)
{color:#ff0000}final String FORM =
"<html>"
"<head>"
"<title>Mailing List form</title>"
"</head>"
"<body>"
"<h1>Add Your Name to our Mailing List</h1> "
"<form action=\"http://localhost:8080\" method=\"post\" "
"enctype=\"text/plain\"> "
" Last name: <input type=\"text\" name=\"last\" size=40 "
" value=\"\"> "
"<br> "
"E-mail Address: <input type=\"text\" name=\"email\" "
"size=12 value=\"\">"
"<br>"
"<input type=\"submit\" value=\"Send Request\" >"
"<input type=\"reset\" value=\"Reset\">"
"</form>"
"</body>" {color}
"</html>" ;
System.out.println("Method is GET for HTTP Request so: Sending Page");
DataOutputStream dos = new DataOutputStream(client_socket.getOutputStream());
dos.writeBytes(FORM);
dos.close();
if(firstline.indexOf("POST")==0)
//send posted FORM to SMTP server
catch(IOException e)
System.out.println(e);
The problem:
I would like to save all the {color:#ff0000}FORM{color} data in a HTML File so that everytime the browser asks for the FORM i can just create an instance of the File and serve it to the browser. Would that be possible?
This is my first time posting a question in a forum so please forgive me if i do not make sense. I would be happy to elaborate if necessary. All help will be greatly appreciated. Oh and just use localhost to access the server.

yes thanks.. i will have time for HTTP formalities later
ok 1 last time lolz... i create the HTML file once right.. suppose i name it HtmlForm.html
Everytime a browser requests the file i want to be able to do something like
File Form = new File("HtmlForm.html");
now i want to be able to send Form using an output stream to the browser.
i tried
ObjectOutputStream SendMessage= new ObjectOutputStream(client_socket.getOutputStream);
SendMessage.writeObject(Form);
but that didnt produce the expected results.
Do you get what im trying to do?
Its no biggy....just wanted to do some house keeping before i hand in my project.

    how to call a html file inside a java file ?

    Hopeless. Are you by any chance a rare gas? You seem completely inert. LOL You totally pwned him there :rolls eyes:
    well, no, I think he's looking for something to this degree:
    in HTML, there is a mailto: command that makes the system default handled way to email emails open up. He's looking for a command thats very nice and opens a html file in the system default browser.
    So, Dick, Runtime.exec would work execpt that he needs a way to find the default system browser to call exec on, AND he has to know how to pass html file locations to the executable via command line arguments
    He just didnt try to phrase it at all :P

    hi srikkant,
    ur html code is inside the source code..? are you working on applets..? if ur html file can be read as a file and the file stream can converted to a string and put into a Jeditor pane using the setText() method. for editing HTML text a editor called javax.swing.text.html.HTMLEditorKit can be used.
    Refer to JAVA API for further clarifiactions and examples.

    You start by reading the first character and then continiung until you reach the last character.
    For a more serious answer try elaborating on your question. Its really really vague.

  • How to return a html repsonse after form guide rendering in browser?

    How to return a html repsonse after form guide rendering in browser indicating that server has recieved transmission and request is submitted succesfuly?
    I am rendering the form guide in browser using guide invoke service and when i submit the data in browser to server through guide , it is displaying some random number in browser?
    i need to display a resposne that request is submitted successfully?

    how could i define a variable with "html data" ?
    Create a variable of type document and then a service to read the html from where ever it's located. If you put it in LiveCycle, you can use the ReadRessource service. If it's on the file system, you can use the Read Document. If it's in the database, you can use the JDBC service.
    Also, one more doubt where should i use this variable in my process to get the same?
    You want the response once you've submitted the data, so the html is really the result of calling the process that's processing the data. So I would create an output variable of type document on that process.
    Right now it displays a random number in the browser because your submit process is long lived. When a process is long lived (asynchronous), you invoke it and then you get an identifier back. It's kind of a fire and forget. You can use that identifier to check the status of the long lived process, since long lived processes can take hours, days to complete. You don't want your browser to wait that long, hence the identifier.
    However if you change the process to be short lived (synchronous), the browser will wait for the result of the process, which really means the output variables for that process. If your output variable contains html, it'll display html.
    So the key is make you submit process short lived and populate the output variables appropriately.

  • How to use an HTML file with Parameters to make an audioClip

    HI guys,
    I am still working on getting simple sound to work in my program! I have learned that I can use Java.Applet's soundClip object, even when not using an Applet, but I do not know how to work with the URL object. Here is a SCCE so you can see where I am at!
    The Java Class:
    public class PlaySound {
        public static void main(String[  ] args)
        throws java.net.MalformedURLException
        java.applet.AudioClip clip = java.applet.Applet.newAudioClip(new java.net.URL(null));
        clip.play( );
    }The HTML file (Lets call it "file.html"):
    <html>
    <body>
    <param name="test" value="test.wav" />
    </body>
    </html>Now obviously I should not be passing the URL null, what should I pass it and how? Also, is the HTML file written properly? Thanks!

  • How to open a html file from hard disk

    Hello everyone,
    i want to display a html file by using java applet.
    This is my current coding:
    package mkbe.pg;
    import java.net.*;
    import java.applet.*;
    public class HtmlReader extends Applet
    URL userUrl;
    public void start()
    try{
    userUrl = new URL(getDocumentBase(),"FILE:///c://2007/index.htm");
    }catch(MalformedURLException error){
    System.out.println("Error");
    getAppletContext().showDocument(userUrl,"_blank");
    }the program have no error and warning and the applet did run by appletviewer but the html file did'nt open.
    Is it there's mistake in my coding?
    If there is please tell me how to repair it.
    Thanks

    For an applet to read from a client's harddrive it will need permission.
    This can be done by putting the applet in a jar file and signing it,
    or by using the poiclytool to change the java.policy file to give FilePermission.

In guide is just "Display a local HTML file in an in-app browser", which works wihout problem, but we don't want to show this HTML content in in-app viewer, it should be part of page.
    Thanks

    Now i'm confused. In guide is this:
    To use local HTML files, click the folder icon and specify the local HTML file. The HTML file (such as index.html) should appear in a folder that includes any images or scripts used in the HTML file.
    But no info where such a local HTML file should reside. If this file is in HTMLResources, it is ignored.

    Best regards

    I would be remiss if I did not point out that the forum software detected your Firefox as version 17. Is that correct?
    Version 17 is not secure; Mozilla discloses [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html security flaws] after each new release. Is something holding you back from upgrading to Firefox 31? Please let us know so we can suggest solutions or workarounds.
    If Help > About Firefox shows Firefox 31, you may need to clear the preference that is misreporting your version number. See: [[Websites say that Firefox is outdated or incompatible even though it's the latest version]].

    •     Performing a normal search
    •     Clicking Rendering information and then following link OTH Overview click on Reload
