Hhow can I guaratee that both instances will have the same deployment aft5er starting server2. Can I use server1 for maintenance (importing new developments),after that starting server2 and both have the same content.

Hi Wolfgang,
The synchronization between Portal nodes is done automatically by the engine.
An easy and short way to verify the synchronization may be to compare the content of a single end-user on both servers.
Assign user X to a role, make some changes\personalizations, login to the other server node with the same user X and make sure chages are reflected on all nodes.

For installing SAP Web AS (Java) copy the following
two archives to your local machine:-
ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sdn/devkits/netweaver/java/NW04SneakPrevJavaSP11.part1.rar
ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sdn/devkits/netweaver/java/NW04SneakPrevJavaSP11.part2.rar
Steps:
1. Download both the .rar files in the same directory
Note: The path name length of the destination directory should not exceed 10 characters.
If you exceed the 10-character limit, the extraction process will fail.
2. You can erase the contents of this archive after the installation process.
3. A folder "NW04SneakPrevJavaSP11" is created after extraction.
Execute start.bat file in this directory to start the installation.

I just download the Developer Studio software (SAP NetWeaver 04s SP9), should i still download the Java Trail Version software (SAP NetWeaver 04s SP9) for j2ee engine setting?

yes you are right, you have to install a Java Application Server for testing. In the netweaver studio no testing environment is integrated by default.
If you just want to check out WebDynpro, the Slim Java Edition-Trial should be enough.
Trex is the search engine of the Enterprise Portal... but for simple WebDynpro Apps you will not need it.

10.2.0.4 patch on single instance standby database

Hi All,
We have production database 10.2.0.3 running with RAC having 2 nodes on Solaris 10. We have patched this
databases to 10.2.0.4 (both nodes) on production without any issue.
We have a physical standby database (10.2.0.3) with 2 nodes on solaris 10. But we have stopped node2 sometime
back and currently it's a single instance standby database. Whe nwe are trying to apply patch to standby dataabse
it's showing both node during installation and installation fails when it tries to search for node2.
What's the solution for this problem? Any document on how to patch the single instance standby database when
production is running in RAC.

I think you are basically saying that you have a 2 node RAC cluster with 1 node down (possibly permanently) and you want to just patch 1 of the nodes?
It's not overly a surprise the installer is trying to patch the other node, when as far as your inventory is concerned you have a 2 node cluster.
Have you tried running the installer with the -local option?
This should just patch your local node. Obviously the dictionary changes will get applied via MRP from the primary db.

Remote Start SAP DI instance from CI

How to start SAP dispatch instance from central instance?
There is a known bug that whenever database restarted, the DI instance will lost database connection, if no user is connected. This is causing background job to miss the schedule.
I'm thinking to restart DI instance whenever DB is started up by changing the DB startup script

Let me see if I understood, you are actually stopping the Central Instance without first stopping the Dialog Instance (application server)?
If the answer is YES; you should always stop your DI first.

How to find out SAP J2EE Patch Level for 04s

Hi all
I want to find out SAP J2EE Patch Level for 2004s installation i tried to get information from SYSTEM INFORMATION link on WAS homepage but it gave only version :7.00 details and PATCH LEVEL was not mentioned .
I also tried to find out by looking into VERSION.TXT file for server & dispatcher in ....USR\SAP\J2E.....engine installation but again no details about PatchLevel was mentioned can anyone provide some information regarding what is the PatchLevel for WAS 7.0 , J2SE used is 1.4.2_09

servers it is mentioned

Login into the Configtool(C:\usr\sap\SID\DVEBMGS<inst no>\j2ee\configtool) if ABAP+JAVA stack or C:\usr\sap\SID\JC<inst no>\j2ee\configtool) if JAVA stack
click on the instance and and select the addserver button on the top to create a servernode for J2EE server.

From my point of view basic post installation steps are:
- Installing SAP License (from http://service.sap.com/licensekeys)
- Setup TMS (STMS)
- Import profiles (RZ10)
- Client Copy (SCC*)
- Create users (SU01)

Hi,
In windows,
go to SAP management console,Right click on the SID and then start all tasks
similarly to stop,Right click,
stop all tasks
If it is linux machine,
switch to SIDadm user,by giving the command su sidadm
ex:if SID is J2E,then it will be j2eadm.and then it is startsap or stopsap.
For troubleshooting,
1.go to /usr/sap/SID/JCxx/j2ee/cluster/server0/log
look for defaulttrace.trc file.
you can get to know the errors here and find teh root cause of it.
2.you can also look for devp_trace in SAPmanagement console.
3.Before doing all this,first check if JAVA_HOME,path and LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set properly and proper JDK is taken.
4.check id DB is up and running.

Yes SAPS is nothing but the CPU power used by the SAP systems. SO if you have 2 SAP systems stacked on the same server, check the CPU utilization over a period of 7 - 10 days, average out & that should give you a fair bit of idea.

SAP j2ee engine is not running error while applying patches.

Iam in the process of aplpying patches using JSPM tool , for some of them iam getting the error messages , when i checked the log file for this tool it says:
SAP J2ee engine is not running , unable to login to <HOST name> with id <Login id>.
Iam very new to this activity ,can anybody help me in this regard , i wil be very thankful.

What exactly do you see when you say that the status in the MMC is OK? I don't think it can be green if you say that you get a message saying "Service Unavailable" when you try to login. If you get that message, it means that the service hasn't either been started or could not be started in case of an error. In this case the server status in the MMC should be yellow (or gray in case none of the services could be started)...
Could you perhaps check it again? Another point to check would be if the connection to the database is OK. If you are using MySQL MaxDB, you could use the Database Manager tool to check this. Sometimes the log files fill up the database and the server cannot start because the database is full. In such cases you will need to clear the logs and then restart the entire cluster.

I had used evaluation copy of the SAP J2EE engine. This copy works for few days and now the SAP J2EE engine is stopped. After its expiration, we purchased the permanent license.
My question is: how to install license for the expired SAP J2EE engine so that the engine can be started without re-installation?

To install license of the J2EE Engine :
In the Visual Administrator -> Server 0 -> Services -> Licensing Adapter. Then choose tab page Runtime -> Installed Licenses and Install subsequent temporary license.

Except for the application error pages you should also keep in mind that some error pages are generated by SAP Webdispatcher - presuming you are using one in front of your J2EE-Engine
