How to permanently stop and delete a download?

Hello,
I started downloading a free movie on iTunes and I no longer want to finish the download (I don't have enough free hard drive space). I keep stopping and deleting it, but the next time I open iTunes it resumes the download.
How can I stop and delete the download so I do not have to finish downloading the file?

I have deleted the GB preferences in Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist.
When I opened GB I got the "Welcome" screen and there was no sign of a message asking me to download.
If anyone can confirm that this has actually permanently stopped that download I would be grateful.

A better way might be
Settings > Facebook > Contacts > turn off.
There are other Facebook settings you might want to leave on. But I also prefer to turn off Calendar there as well to keep every Facebook friends birthday from clogging up my calendar app.

I purchased several different TV series a month ago and downloaded with no problems. I purchased a couple more series two days ago and when I went to download several OLD shows from the previous purchase that I had already downloaded popped up and keep trying to download. I am able to stop the download temporarily, but whenever I log back in the shows try to download again and I am unable to delete. With the exception of Apps, purchases from the iTunes store are a one time download only. From there, it is your responsibility to back up this content to prevent situations such as these. Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

If you are having an issue with your purchase, you should be able to go to the iTunes Store app, tap on More and then Downloads. Then you should be able to swipe from right to left to delete it. Then you can try to download it again from the Music app. If you are still unable to download your track, the report the issue to the iTunes Store.
